Diana's POV
I was crying from my bruised heart in the woods when I felt his hand on my shoulder. I raised my head, and he wrapped his muscular arms around my shoulders from behind.
I didn’t need to turn or look at him to know who he was. I just knew from his fragrance that he was mine. I leaned back on him and closed my eyes to let the remaining tears flow down my cheeks.
“Why are you crying when I’m here?” He whispered close to my ear, making my heart skip its beat.
I smiled and inclined my head toward his firm chest. There was solace for me, my home.
“Let me stay like this,” I spoke, inhaling the scent of his fresh cologne and musky, woody fragrance with a tinge of spice. His fragrance had always calmed my inner realm.
“Don’t leave me,” I mumbled, placing my hand on his hands around my torso.
He said nothing but wrapped his arms around me possessively. However, what happened next? He left me. How could he? I turned around. He wasn’t there.
"Ren, ren,” I shouted his name.
“You can’t leave me.” I ran around.
“No Darren, you can’t do this to me. Please, Darren. Please,” I screamed at the top of my lungs as my eyes opened, but the next moment, my head hurt a lot. I touched my head and found some herbs there.
"You wake up,” I heard a voice, and when I looked at the source, a man was grinding some herbs. I got scared. Where was I? It wasn’t my room. Was I dreaming? Where was Darren? I tried to stand, but my limbs hurt inadequately, and I fell to the ground. However, the man moved with the speed of light and saved me just before touching the ground.
“Don’t move. You’ve not healed yet.” He wrapped his arms around my shoulder and helped me to rest on the bed again. The man looked around 40, but his build was muscular. My whole body was aching, and I couldn’t move an inch. Helplessly, I looked at the man who just returned to grind his herbs and I was sure he was a wolf because he was fast. I became even more scared. I looked at my surroundings and tried to recall what had happened, and reality dawned on me. Charlotte pushed me from the cliff. She wanted to kill me just for Darren. How could she be so evil?
"How are you feeling?"
I was in my thoughts when he spoke again, ushering me into reality. I looked at him.
"Who are you? And What am I doing here?” I composed myself.
"I’m Marcus. The owner of this cottage. I saved you last week from the bank of the lake; from then on, you’re here.”
"What? Last week. I was here for one week.” I was shocked because I thought it was a matter of time but one week had passed.
"You were in a worse state when I brought you here and treated you. Your external wounds have recovered, but your internal injuries remain.” He pursed his lips.
"My whole body is aching.” I tried to tell him.
"Yeah, I think your wolf is nothing for good. She couldn’t even heal you.” I thought Marcus was straightforward, but his straightforwardness pricked my heart.
“I don’t have a wolf.” My eyes welled up, and I remembered how Darren rejected me just because I was weak and couldn’t stand with him.
Marcus frowned. “How can it be? Your aura is strong.” He paused. “But,” he added with a bit of thought.
"How can I have an aura when I don’t even have a wolf?” I replied, interjecting his sentence with a heavy heart. He glanced at me. His stare was strange, but before I could ask him anything, he returned to his prior self and said with a little smile.
“It’s okay. No need to worry. Apply this ointment on your legs daily, and you’ll be alright in a week or two.”
I nodded, but my mind wasn’t clear. I wanted to ask a few things, but as I opened my mouth. A loud sound came, like some bell or something. Marcus looked at the clock in the room. I followed his gaze and saw the clock. It was five o’clock. Marcus turned to me and said.
“I have some work. I’m going, if you need anything, you can ring this bell. Someone will come for your assistance.” he gestured toward the bell on the side table and walked out of the room.
I pursed my lips. Now; I was alone. I looked around the room. It was a spacious room with crucial furnishings. The interior was old-fashioned. It wasn’t like my previous room in the pack-house, but who cared? I tried to move my legs, but it hurt, so I gave up the idea, laid back on the bed, and closed my eyes.
‘I was here for a week, but no one came searching for me. I knew Darren wouldn’t search for me because he didn’t care, but Grandpa did. He would be worried.’ I thought about Grandpa, and the urge to return to the pack house aroused.
From the moment, he welcomed me into the pack house sixteen years ago, he cared for and loved me unconditionally. His unwavering love has been the cornerstone of our bond, creating an unbreakable connection that has stood the test of time. Everything was so good before the last two years. Darren was so good to me. I didn’t care about others’ behavior towards me until Grandpa, Darren, and nanny Sophie were good to me. I remembered the night of Darren’s eighteenth birthday two years ago.
~~~~~~~~~~FLASHBACK
“You’re his friend, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be his mate, too. I know you have high hopes to become his slut, but a weakling like you who doesn’t even know about her background or status doesn’t suit him. He is an alpha, and only a girl like me, the daughter of a beta, suits him. You know I can give him everything. I can help him against other packs, but you can only be of one use.”
“You can only be his bed warmer.”
“But I wonder if you are good at bed or not?”
Charlotte’s statement about our pure relationship pierced my heart badly that night. I loved him and wanted to be his mate, but being a slut was a shameful thing that I had never imagined. I didn’t reply to Charlotte anything and ran from the party to the woods without even meeting Darren, without knowing whether we were mates or not. My legs trembled, and my knees got weak from the dirty proclamations of Charlotte. She despised me just because Darren loved me. He cared for me more than anything. Everyone hated me just because Darren was my best friend. I had the privilege of his friendship and living in the pack house.
I couldn’t take the burden more and fell onto the grass with a thud. That was the problem with me. I couldn’t even cry my heart out. Every time I cried, I became even weaker. My body refused to support me like I was under some curse. My emotions made me vulnerable. I didn’t know how much I cried there. I wanted to go to Darren’s eighteenth birthday party. But I didn’t dare to face him. I couldn’t meet him in this condition. Ren would be mad again. He hated tears in my eyes. He was my shining armor, always saving me from bullying and protecting me. I couldn’t hurt him on his special day with my tears and myself, so I just wrapped my arms around my legs and buried my head there. That time he came, he wrapped his arms around my shoulders. I told him to stay with me. He was there till I fell asleep in his arms. However, that was the last day he came for me. After that, he never came.
~~~~~~~End of FLASHBACK
Tears were in my eyes, remembering him and his love that wasn’t mine anymore. I remembered his words.
"Stop your wishful thinking and tell me why you need my comfort every time. Can’t you stop depending on me? I won’t be able to help you anymore. I’m Alpha now, and I have a lot on my plate and don’t have time for your sobbing and comfort.” He had yelled at me the next day when I opened my eyes in the room and asked him whether he brought me into the room from the woods.
“It’s time for you to be strong. I can’t be here for you every time.” Darren broke my heart that day. I told him he had promised he’d always be there for me. But what he said next broke me.
“Oh, common, Anna. Wake up from your imaginations and land in the real world where no one can stay with you all your life.” Darren’s voice was harsh.
“But you know I only have you and you promised me. Darren, you said you would never leave me. The moon goddess had made me for you. You said you’re my guardian, and maybe one day. You’ll be my mate.” I tried to recall his words to him that day, but he denied them.
"That was some teenage bluffs. I was immature, so please forget everything I have said to you. Besides, we’re not for each other,” he spoke, shattering my broken heart into a million pieces. He told me that day I wasn’t his mate. From that moment on, he never looked at me. I heard about his dating rumors with Charlotte after that.
However, everything was meaningless to me. I had lost the taste of life until last week on the night of my eighteenth birthday. I didn’t get my wolf and I heard his quarrel with Charlotte. He said to Charlotte that I was his mate. I clearly remembered each word.
“Who told you I don’t have a mate? Diana is mine. She is my mate.”
If I was his mate, then why did he abandon me? I was heartbroken by this fact until he broke me all over again with the reality that he never wanted a weak Luna for his pack. He saved me that day from two werewolves who attacked me and tried to rape me. He saved me from them but killed me with his own words, with the words of rejection.
Everything, every memory, was hurtful from the last two years. I didn’t know what I wanted anymore.
I was sure Grandpa would be worried and maybe searching for me, but soon this thought left me when I thought,
‘If he’d be searching for me, he should have searched for me till now. It’d not be difficult for them to find me. Did it mean Darren convinced him?’ I knew I thought about the worst, but after what Darren did to me. I was ready for everything. My heart clenched in my rib cage. How badly I wanted to be with him, but he refused me so lightly and even tried to reject me.
I subsided every thought of returning because that place was not my home anymore. It was Darren’s pack, and if he didn’t want me. I wouldn’t go there.
‘But how would I live without him? I lived the past two years believing he might have some reason for ignoring and torturing me, but now I know why he did that to me. I couldn’t force my heart to not yearn for him and couldn’t force him to live with me.’ I cried over my fate, over my helplessness for him. He was my everything, but I was nothing to him.
Diana's POV Two weeks later, “Diana,” I was in a deep sleep when I heard Clara’s voice, the caretaker of this cottage. She was an old woman without a wolf, just like me, and I had developed a maternal bond with her. “Wake up, Alpha Marcus called you into his office. He said now you’re recovered, so he needs to discuss some matter,” she said, drawing the curtains aside. My throat tightened as I sat up, bracing myself for the impending conversation because I knew what he’d say. “Don’t worry, he won’t throw you out. He’d only ask some random questions about your will. If you don’t want to leave, just tell him. He’ll listen to you.” Clara tried to calm me because I’d told her I had nowhere to go. “Relax, everything will be fine.” She gently patted my back, her touch conveying a keen sense of reassurance. “I know,” I nodded in agreement, and she left the room with a firm instruction to come downstairs for breakfast before heading to Alpha Marcus. Soon after breakfast, I was in the
“Huh,” I averted my gaze, breaking our eye contact, and shifted my focus to Isabella.“Are you fine?” she asked.I nodded and gazed once more at the person embracing me. His eyes had reverted to their normal black color.“Thank you,” I uttered, trying to stand. However, he wasn’t leaving me. His grip on my waist was so tight that I couldn’t move at all.Isabella noticed me struggling, so she stepped ahead.“Raymond,” she patted his arm. He looked at Isabella and left me.“Thank...,” Before I could finish my sentence, he stormed away.“Strange man,” I remarked.“Yeah, he’s Raymond, who broke Liam’s nose today. He’s nice, but sometimes very aggressive.”“From which department? Is he our senior? I mean, he looks older.” I didn’t know why I asked, but that intense gaze made me shiver all over my body.“He’s not our senior, but the trainer. I heard Professor Marcus hired him seven years ago as a trainer for the shift and combat class. I’ve also heard he’s somehow related to Professor.”“Do
Diana's POVThe following morning, I woke up early and got ready in a white jumpsuit. I never knew I’d say this, but I was excited to go to college. I never thought people could be kind and generous, but now my surroundings were full of kind people. Alpha Marcus, Clara, and Isabella.Three people now, and three were in the past. Grandpa, Nanny Sophie, and Darren.I miss them every day, every moment. Many times, I’ve considered returning to the packhouse, but what Darren and Charlotte did to me discouraged me. I wanted to leave, but only after achieving something.I was looking outside the balcony and thinking about Darren when Clara’s surprised voice fell over my ears.“Diana, you’re already up. This hasn’t happened in the last two weeks. Previously, you were always sleepy, insisting on staying in bed.”“I had no will to live. Now I am clear about my goals and the steps I need to take to achieve them.” I folded my arms and turned towards the balcony again. The fresh air was calming my
Diana's POVMonday,Today was Monday and the time for shift and combat class. Standing outside the changing room, I was nervous and scared. I didn’t want to be a laughingstock here. While I haven’t faced bullying lately, I know that once they find out; I don’t have a wolf. It’s only a matter of time before it starts again. My heart was pumping harder. Alpha Marcus told me to calm down and focus on training. He told me Raymond would go easy on me because it was my first time, but I was scared. Raymond didn’t know I lacked a wolf. If he ordered me to shift, everyone would see my reality and start laughing—and bullying—me.“What happened? Why have you not changed yet?” Isabella asked, coming out of the restroom. She had changed into a sports bra and leggings. I looked into her eyes. Maybe she had understood my hesitation and the pain visible in my eyes. She held my hands.“Don’t worry, I’m with you. We’ll pair up for training, and everything will go smoothly.”“What if he ordered me to sh
Raymond’s POV “You’ll be fine. Nothing will happen to you.” Carrying her in my arms, I ran to the college dispensary. Amelia was already present there. As soon as she saw me, she approached me. “What happened?” “Look at her. She’s injured.” I put Diana on the dispensary bed. “Her belly.” I couldn’t speak more. I felt something stuck in my throat. “Oh my God, it’s a deep cut,” Amelia immediately started treating her wounds. She cleaned the blood with the alcohol swabs, but the blood wasn’t stopping. “Why is she not self-healing? Her wolf should be able to heal her.” She showed her concerns. “She doesn’t have a wolf.” Unknowingly, I clenched my fist tightly. “I need to stitch her skin to stop bleeding. But it’ll leave scars.” Amelia explained. “Hurry up,” I ordered as if I had some connection to her. She nodded and started her work. I sat on the right side of the bed and took her hand in mine gently. “You’ll be fine,” I caressed her hand. Upon hearing from Alpha Marcus that
Diana’s POV A month later “Diana, why don’t you stay with me in the dorm, and we’ll go to the party together tonight?” Isabella spoke, coming out of the class. Tonight was the most awaited ballroom party. “I didn’t inform the professor, and I didn’t even bring my dress.” “No problem. You can tell him now. Go and tell him you’re staying with me tonight and as for your dress. I’ve so many options, and I swear those dresses are way hotter and sexier than your boring jeans and top.” She pointed her finger towards my outfit. “What is wrong with them? I’m comfortable in this outfit, and by the way, I wasn’t going to wear jeans and a top to the party.” “Then what were you going to wear a ball gown?” she raised her brow, folding her arms on her chest. “No, Clara bought a long-body coon maxi for me. She said it’d be perfect for a party.” “Forget it. I have got a better option for you. Go and inform the professor about your stay here. We’ll enjoy a lot. I’m so excited.” Isabella clapped
Darren’s POV “You know she’s coming to the party, so why are you going? She’d be sick again, and Marcus’s efforts of these two months would be waste.” “Grandpa, I won’t meet her. She won’t see me.” “But you know she’d get the effect. You need to stay away from her. It’s for everyone’s good.” “I need to see her. Kyro is getting mad. For his sanity, I need to go,” I took my car keys and strode out of the pack house. “Darren, I won’t let you go,” Grandpa came before me, blocking my way. “Grandpa, step aside. I already told you I’ll see her from a distance. Please leave my way.” “Kyro needs to understand. You can’t go to her because of him. You both need to understand she had a different fate. She’s not meant to be yours.” The words just left Grandpa’s mouth that Kyro took over me. “She’s mine,” he growled at Grandpa. “Kyro,” Grandpa growled back. “She’s mine. A damn curse can do nothing. I’ll make her mine, eventually. She’s only mine,” Kyro snarled in his unhuman voice on Grand
Darren’s POV “Promise, I’ll,” She smiled, and the next moment, she withdrew my hands from her face and took predatory steps away from me. Her backward stroll was a masterpiece of art. Her heels clicked softly on the marble floor as she took slow, deliberate steps backward, her eyes locked onto mine. However, I couldn’t lock my gaze as my eyes traveled over her body. “Black,” I whispered, my breath caught in my throat. Her black bodycon dress hugged her body perfectly, showcasing her curves like a work of art. The V-neckline plunged deeply, revealing the soft, rounded swells of her breasts, and I couldn’t help but be drawn to the tantalizing glimpse of her cleavage. I gulped down. This was the first time I had seen her like this. She swayed around, and my eyes roamed lower, tracing the contours of her hips, accentuated by the dress’s fitted silhouette. I felt uneasy in my pants. However, when she turned around and took a step back on the bed, the slit on the left side made her t
Darren’s POVI was talking to the member of the werewolf council about upcoming dangers when Diana’s voice seeped through the mind link. ‘Help me,’ Instantly, I looked around.‘Where is she? She was just there talking to someone.’ My heart raced.“Alpha Darren, is everything alright?” The member of the council asked me.“Yeah.” I curved my lips into a fake smile and excused myself.‘She’s in danger. I can feel it,’ Kyro growled in my head.I ran towards the pack house of the Shadow moon pack, following Diana’s scent.However, my heart stopped beating for a second, and the earth beneath my foot slipped when I saw Luke hovering above her. He was choking Diana.My feet froze, and before I could move and kill that bastard, a white light emerged from Diana, which threw Luke away.“White light.” My knees became weak, unable to support my weight.‘It was her magic.’ Kyro’s voice was gloomy. We couldn’t accept the reality that our mate would be the second Aria.I saw her transforming back int
Diana’s POVEngagement DayToday was Isabella and Alpha Bryan’s engagement. The entire day went by with preparations and running here and there. Now, it was almost four o’clock, and guests started to come. However, I was stuck in Isabella’s room, helping her get ready.Dressed in an ivory off-shoulder gown, she looked gorgeous. I styled her hair in a wavy curl that streamed down her back, and she wore statement earrings to complement her look. With minimal makeup to enhance her features, she was ready for the engagement.“How am I looking?” She asked, glancing at herself in the mirror.“Perfect.” I held her by the shoulders and hugged her from behind.“Now go and get ready. You also have to join the engagement if you remember.”I laughed out and walked towards my room to get ready.I had already taken a shower before heading to Isabella’s room, so I simply slipped into a dress. It was a short, knee-length, off-shoulder dress in a lovely lavender color, featuring a flared hem and a V-n
Diana’s POVThe next day, while I was taking a shower in the washroom, Isabella entered the room. After I got ready, we had breakfast together with her family. Later, she gave me a tour of her pack house. Although it wasn’t as grand as Darren’s house, it was decorated with elegance and love. Every wall reflected the presence of Luna in their pack, especially since Darren’s mother had died during childbirth.Isabella took me to their massive library. It was the biggest room in the house, and every wall was lined with books from the ground to the ceiling; all the shelves were filled with them.“You’ve an immense collection,” My mouth was opened in astonishment. In Moonstone, the library wasn’t bigger. Some shelves in Grandpa’s office, some in Darren’s room, and a lot in mine.“I told you I have a library for my collection.” I nodded, going towards the shelves. There were different sections of different creatures. I thought I was a book lover, but Isabella was more than me.“Diana, Mom h
Diana’s POV “Diana,” Shouting my name, she barged inside. “This way,” I exclaimed, going towards her, and we met in the hall. “Why did you come alone and not wait for me?” Putting hands on her waist, she was in a mood to fight. ‘Should I tell her about my shift?’ I thought about it. ‘No, what if I don’t shift again? Once I talk to my wolf and assure myself, I’ll tell her.’ “Tell me, why did you not wait for me? We decided to come together.” “It’s not my fault. You didn’t return last night, and I was feeling scared, so I came here.” I said, holding her hand. “How did you come here?” She questioned, and I was silent for a second. “Tell me,” “Alpha Marcus came to take me back. He said Clara was missing me, so instead of coming tomorrow, he came at night.” She pursed her lips, and I pulled her to the kitchen. “What happened, Isabella? You’re looking pissed off.” Clara said, looking at her. “I’m so annoyed with your Princess Diana. She left me there and came herself. Not just me,
Diana’s POV I yawned as I got up, raising my hands above my head to relieve the tightness and creakiness from my body. However, as I scanned my room, the memories of the previous night flooded back into my mind. “How did I reach here?” I recalled. I was in the woods, and that mad wolf was going to rip my head off. A shiver crawled down my spine, the way he dug his claws into my back. I immediately stepped out of the bed and ran into the washroom. Standing before a wall-length mirror, I examined my body for the scratches or wounds given by that mad rogue wolf. However, my body was cleared without any marks. Even the stitching mark on my belly had gone, leaving ever-fresh and glowing skin. I was baffled. “My wolf,” I whispered, putting my hand on the mirror. The golden fur of my wolf flashed before my eyes. I never saw or heard about anyone who had a golden wolf. I was surprised and perplexed. Why do I have a golden one? I tried to concentrate on my mind, trying to talk to my wolf,
Isabella’s POV I smoothed my black dress; the fabric clinging to my skin. The heels were elevating my stature, and subtle curls added a whimsical touch. “Beautiful,” I praised myself, applying the final coat of lip gloss. ‘Bella, I’ve reached.’ Bryan’s mind link whispered through my thoughts, sending shivers down my spine. ‘Just two minutes,’ I answered, throwing a last look at my reflection. The mirror showed a confident, radiant woman, and with a satisfied smile, I stepped out of my room. As I descended the stairs and turned left, I suddenly found myself face-to-face with Bryan. My heart skipped a beat. He looked breathtakingly handsome in his fitted black shirt and dark jeans, his eyes shining with warmth. A flutter erupted in my chest, and Jenna, my wolf, stirred in response, her presence heightening my senses. “Bryan,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. His smile widened, and he closed the distance between us. “You look breathtaking, Isabella.” I blushed, feeling a s
Darren’s POV “What about the curse?” I asked her with so much hope. “Curse is still there. A powerful witch had cast it in return for a favor. Diana had gained the favor, so the curse couldn’t be reverted unless Moon Goddess breaks it herself.” The glow emanating from her hand stopped as her eyes turned to normal. However, my heart sank to the depths. Where was I in this entire story? “I’ve got to tell Marcus. She’s indeed the girl of prophecy.” “Did she have other elements?” I asked with a raced heartbeat, praying to Selene for no. However, the Moon Goddess was against me. “I can sense them in her aura even though her powers aren’t awakened.” “No, this can’t be possible. She’s mine, living with me all her life. Only I’m her family. She can’t have such things in her.” My voice reverberated with anger. “Don’t forget, she’s the daughter of Thane and Freya. Her Golden Lycan cleared our doubts. Only a royal blood can have golden fur.” Saying this, Elena strode out of the room. If s
Darren’s POV Today was a full moon, and I knew Kyro’s power would intensify, making him uncontrollable. He had insisted from last week that I go to the hostel to see her, even from a distance, but I refused because I knew how much she suffered because of me and my lack of control. However, tonight, Kyro wouldn’t let me control him, and I knew he would go to her hostel because she had moved there after the ballroom party. That’s why I decided to go into the woods away from her hostel in the opposite direction. Stopping my car at the end of the forest, I stepped out. The night was bright, and the moon had its significant pull. Ten minutes left mid-night, so I moved to my car’s bonnet and sat on it. ‘Darren, you’re not doing right.’ Kyro’s irritated voice echoed in my brain. ‘I won’t have to do this if you cooperate with me.’ I replied, putting my hand beneath my head and laying on the bonnet. ‘You’re doing wrong. You know I can’t live without her.’ ‘Whatever I’m doing is for her be
Diana’s POV After finishing our meal and paying, we exited the inn into the night, already reaching 10 o’clock. “Let’s head back to the hostel,” I said, wearing the jacket I had removed from the inn. “We’ll go back after healing your core,” he said, walking beside me. “Seriously, you don’t need to do it anymore. I’m feeling good.” “But you’ll feel great after today’s try,” “But,” I tried to speak. However, he interjected me, pulling my hand towards the forest. “It’s already ten. We had to head back before midnight,” I warned him, trying to free myself. “I’ll do it faster and promise we’ll be back before midnight,” he raised his two fingers, sealing his words with promise. Nodding, I pursed my lips and followed him into the woods because he couldn’t practice his technique and utilize his power in the crowd. After walking for twenty minutes, we reached the woods near our hostel to head back soon. “Sit here,” Liam gestured me towards the ground, neatly made with weathered logs.
