It was me.
Athen. Though I didn't even look slightest the same I used to be. As I reeked my trembling fingers through my hair, wishing in my heart that the illusion I was having would snap away. But it didn't. I flipped my new hair to the left and then right before I pulled them harder.
"Ahh…" I gasped in fright.
Then my fingers traced down my shocked face, over the bridge of my nose, down on my neck, and then I pinched myself.
Acknowledging the reality, I experienced sweet shrills of pain my pinching had caused.
Wondering, I squeezed my gaze to focus on my past. Was this the way I used to look?
Shockingly, my blown away mind was unable to recall my past, and how I used to be like. Nothing came to me as I forced my memory. Hence, I ended up acknowledging the reality, the appearance, the body, the features I own now.
Though an unusual feeling was prevailing in my throat seeing the unhackneyed appearance of myself in the mirror.
The next morning a sweet yet new breeze greeted me after the scorching rays of sunlight streaming in through the glass windows pulled me out of my slumber.
Stretching and yawning out of my sleep dizziness, I flipped off the blanket, swung my feet down the bed and slipped into the flip flops.
My gaze followed the direction of the clock showing what time it was. When I poured myself water, the splashing noise brought back a hint of a strange memory to me. It was so blurred and vague that my mind could not make out what it was exactly about.
What happened last night completely swept away my memory, it was a brand new day, with a brand new episode containing brand new twists for me.
Unprepared, I got off my bed and began to dress up for college.
"The heck, whose cupboard did I happen to open?" I blabbered in confusion, as my orbs turned wider in amazement.
As soon as I pulled the door of the cupboard, clothes threw out on me like metal barriers had been put off and the water came out gushing into the canal, overlapping, overflowing in it.
I leaned forward and picked out an oversized black shirt, and gawked at it.
"Whose fuvking clothes are these?" I groaned in anger. Unbelievably, I could not make sense of my life at this point. It seemed like I had been put on a roller coaster with weird turns and twists designed.
I stretched the piece of cloth in my hand, then studied it, and then followed my orbs over me. In this size shirt two men of my size could easily fit.
But that was the least of my concerns. The only thing bothering me at this point was, why and how these clothes get into my cupboard.
"I never wore them!" I spoke.
"Ughhh… What will I put on for today?" Finally coming back to the issue at hand, I reckoned that I was short on clothes.
Rummaging through the pile heaped up near my feet, I tried to find at least one piece which could be of my size but it was a deliberately failed attempt on my part. Disappointment reeking over my face, I scoped the pile into my arms and pushed them back into my cupboard after that I shut the door.
"Pssttt… my life is always a mess." I grumbled, keeping up with my old habit of complaining in my new life.
"Well. I need to find a solution. Crying won't help me." I thought, tucking my hands on my waist.
I averted back to the cupboard and pulled out the same black shirt which I had been observing earlier. It won't be a bad idea to style an oversized black shirt and grace it with my handsome personality. I surely knew how to do that.
Finally the time had come that all those hours I had invested scrolling on my I*******m feed, stalking fashionista influencers showing their skills to style up an old school dress in the modernist way, pays me off.
For the jeans I decided to go with a pair of jeans I had ordered from Zara which was luckily in my size. The backstory was that I really liked these pants but unfortunately the brand wasn't catering to any customers falling in the category of my body size. Nonetheless, I couldn't find any reason to give up on the pants except this, so I placed an order for them.
"Look at this guy! Look theree… " suppressed female voices followed me as I walked past a group of girls formerly occupied in gossiping and stalking every guy roaming around them.
Strangely, my listening senses were working extraordinarily today, as I could make out their whispers even from a distance of a mile.
A smile sprouted on my lips upon realizing that they were talking about me. I didn't remember any instance when my presence had ever been noticed by any girl around me. Genuinely, it had been giving me butterflies in the stomach mainly because I was experiencing this for the first time.
Getting all the attention I had ever prayed for and now deserve.
"Hey, Athen!" A guy shouted at me and scurried to me with a shoulder bag hung on his shoulder and thin framed glasses getting blurred because of the cold foggy breeze blowing around.
"Where have you been for the past month?" He inquired about me panting heavily, and took off his glasses as he began to clear off the glasses before he placed them back on the bridge of his nose.
"Oh My God!" He gasped in obvious shock.
"What a transformation, man!" He spoke bewildered.
Meanwhile, I was staring back at him in utter amazement still trying to decipher his saying. What was he talking about? I had been absent from college for a month?
But how the heck was that possible? I attended college yesterday, went back home, changed, and slept and then I came back.
I had been regular.
"Whattt! Sorry, I could not get you.
You mean a whole month? Seriously!"
I asked him.
Yes. Where have you been?" His question still stood there unanswered. Travis became my friend from the day first, our bond transformed from exchanging uncomfortable gazes, giving a brief introduction to sharing uncontrollable touches of laughter, notes, and sweet memories."I… I… we just met yesterday. What are you talking about? I am not getting you, man!" Muddled, I spoke."Haha…" bursting out in laughter he pushed my shoulder. "No, bruh. I'm assuming you slept for long hours and must have met me in your dreams." Nonchalantly he blabbered the astonishingly strange truth. "Yeah… umm…" my jumbled-up mind was still trying to process his sayings. Was I missing something? Or was whatever he said the truth?"Seems a sure thing." I shared his laughter and then we both began walking towards our campus side by side.Everything felt amazingly the same yet strange. As I stepped into my classroom filled with chattering heads relentlessly moving, mouths bursting in loud waves of laughter. None
"Athen." I slowly repeated his name.Shifting on my toes and craning myself up to get a glimpse of the guy winning the hearts of all the girls watching him teaching Neil a lesson.I felt a pang of curiosity as my heterochromatic eyes rose above the head of the girl standing in front of me, blocking my view. I fought with everything hindering my vision to get a partial view of him. "Hey what are you doing?" The girl shouted at me when I lost my balance, trembled, and fell on her back. Luckily she managed to maintain her balance and save both of us from falling, diverting all the eyes hooked on Athen, the hero of the day, to us. Though, realizing that it would have earned me the chance to have his attention, I regretted not tumbling down."I'm sorry. I was just…." My words cut short when I saw the crowd scattering and minimizing eventually. The trio soon walked out of there as Niel was dragged out of the spot by his friends who didn't dare to come in between to rescue him until he comp
My head was spinning to the echoes winding in my ears, my mind was though unable to process the words, the gossiping wisps divulging the rumors about myself."You just nailed it." Clancy punched my shoulder in appreciation. Shaking my absentee consciousness, and bringing me back to reality. Everyone walking past us had their eyes hooked on me, as their lips showed movement indicating that they were discussing me.A wave of confusion wrapped me in, as I didn't know how to perceive the unexpected attention I was getting. "Yeah, really," Travis spoke, bewildered. "I told you. You appear different. And now we all have seen the proof." he continued.Athen's gaze averted toward him as he spoke. Amidst the chirps, wisps, and harsh laughs, some distant voices whirled over his head and got rapidly processed by his brain as if it were these echoes it had been busier in deciphering than the words his friends were uttering."Oh come on. Don't blabber about anything." I tried to dismiss the conve
The food was finger-licking good. I left Mr. Jen's place after he served me a cup of hot brewing lemon green tea and both of us shared some casual talks while sipping on it. It was a refreshing stay genuinely, especially after having gone through so many confusing, muddling events, moments, like finding oversized clothes in my cupboard to turning down a gangsta guy in front of the whole campus, and those weird, odd whispers oath to never leave me alone."Thanks, Mr. Jen." I courteously said, bent forward as he wanted to pat me on my shoulder. I preferred to call him by his name than use any titles, such as Uncle, Grandpa, and any other that would best suit his personality. I felt comfortable regarding him by his name. It appeared bizarrely fine to me. To my relief, he was not offended by it, as his facial expressions showed, he seemed to enjoy being called by his name just like some of his friends referred to him. Realizing that at this point he needed the company of a friend more
The next day, I was sitting on the couch waiting outside the psychiatrist's room, I booked an appointment. A few more people were accompanying me in the waiting area, their faces appeared normal, and their demeanor was fine. No one could guess if any of them were experiencing any mental abnormalities."Mr. Athen?" A girl called my name, responding, I shot up from my position and walked into the room, as all the eyes followed me until I disappeared behind the glass doors.A middle-aged man with grayish hair and thin-framed specs clumsily sitting on the bridge of his nose looked in my way as I walked in nervously. The aura inside the room was quite depressing and gloomy. I wonder how anyone walking in with tension and depression could find a cure here. An air of uneasiness, uncertainty, confusion, and unrealistic apprehension engulfed me as I dragged my feet against the wooden floor. The room was sparsely furnished with a dark wooden desk and a black leather chair behind it on which th
"Jade, what are you doing!?" Stopping her hands laid on my belt, I spoke in a shocked tone as if I didn't know what she was going to do.Reaching home, I formally asked her to take a seat on the only couch I have in my tiny lounge while I rushed towards the kitchen to fetch something for her to drink with some snacks to eat.As I pulled my back straight, with an orange juice bottle in my hands, I saw her standing on the other side of the opened refrigerator door with a bawdy smirk gracing her mouth."I was coming for you." Retrieving from the surprise, I eyed her."It's ok. I was just getting bored, so I thought I shall give you company in the kitchen." Winking at me naughtily, she proceeded. As her mini skirt flared in the air when she moved forward, her heels clacked against the tiled floor. Amusingly, I averted towards the shelf to grab some glass to pour juice in them. Meanwhile, she stood behind me, I could feel her lewd gaze weighing me down. I felt a crude glamor pinning me do
"Listen to me." I grabbed her by the arm and turned her around. The lewd glow shining in her gray orbs burned yellow with the fiery. How could someone be so dumb as to make his first-ever date angry? I felt the need to hit my head on the wall. After the blunder I had made in the kitchen, it would be worse if I let her go as it is. I needed to make up for my behavior."Sorry. It was my mistake." Her lips twisted, as she spoke in her irked tone.A pang of guilt crept over me, I bent to grab her hands in mine. Though, I had no idea how to make it up. I was a noob when it comes to dealing with girls, especially when their eyes were impregnated with expectations as you look into them."Ssshhh." I put a finger on her lips."Don't say it. I should be the one apologizing for my behavior." I tried to look into her eyes, though an odd thing hindered my vision and stopped me from diving deep into her. As if I was not meant to do so. The nature of the moment was ambiguous and appalling, as I sw
"Mr. Jen," I spoke, shockingly.Finding the old man supporting his lean withered figure with a stick at my door, I pulled the door open. I invited him inside. "What is he doing here?" I thought. He shuffled in through the narrowed corridor, his orbs moving around as if measuring the unseen danger lurking around. The noise of his ragged breath was filling the silence. Walking past Jade completely unbothered by her presence standing in his way, he slipped into the living room.Tensely, I followed him. I didn't know what to expect from his appearance at this late hour of the night. The moonlight streamed in through the cracked glass of the window, illuminating the thin fine lines of wrinkles gracing his skin, and his intricately fragile fingers loosened their grip around the nape of his cane after he grumpily positioned himself on the sofa.I rushed towards the switchboard realizing it was dark inside and I forgot to turn on the lights. As I pressed the switch down, the white light of
With each passing moment, the beating of my heart grew louder and more frenzied, as though trying to break free from my chest. My body was tense, and the air inside the small, roofless hut felt thick and suffocating. I couldn't help but be drawn to him, despite the fact that he was a werewolf - a prime rival of my kind, a vampire. As my gaze trailed over his hair, my mind was filled with conflicting emotions. Intrigue, desire, and a sense of danger that sent shivers down my spine. I knew the truth, that he was my enemy, but I couldn't help but be drawn to him like a moth to a flame. My thoughts were interrupted as I craned my neck to look up at the sky. The sight that met my eyes was breathtaking. The natural light of the rising sun was spreading across the horizon, painting the world in shades of orange and pink. I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder and awe, even as fear began to creep in.As the first rays of sunlight began to spill into the hut, I knew that I was in danger. M
As I stood in the hut, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The eerie silence was deafening, and the darkness seemed to envelope me like a shroud. Suddenly, a voice echoed through the trees, breaking the silence."You're a cursed alpha!" the voice yelled, sending shivers down my spine.I turned my head around to find the source of the voice, but there was nothing but darkness staring me in the face. My heart pounded in my chest as I struggled to maintain my balance. "Who are you?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper."That's not important," the voice replied. "Who am I? You should ask who you are. And I'm here to answer your question."The voice began to grow closer, and I felt a chill run down my spine. I was surrounded by darkness, unable to see anything around me. The voice seemed to be coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time."What do you mean by it?" I asked, confused and uncertain. The darkness seemed to part, and a shaft of light appeared from behind the
I looked at Athen, hoping that he would wake up and save us from the witch. But to my dismay, he fainted on the floor. The witch was indeed a powerful force to confront. My nerves began to pulsate with fear as the witch let out a roar of happiness and victory. She had successfully turned me down, sucking out all my energies and powers. I watched helplessly as she approached Athen, her eyes gleaming with triumph. With a wave of her hand, Athen began to writhe in pain, as if his body was being consumed by an invisible force. The witch's laughter filled the air as she continued to drain his energy. My heart sank as I realized that we were doomed. I closed my eyes, feeling the weight of disappointment and defeat. The darkness consumed me as I lost consciousness, unable to fight any longer. When I opened my eyes, I was disoriented, unsure of where I was. It felt as though my head was spinning, my body aching with a sharp pain that ran down my spine. I felt a light touch on my cheek, almo
My eyes felt heavy, as if lead weights were attached to my lids, dragging them down with an unrelenting force. The world around me slowly faded away, consumed by the overpowering darkness that was rapidly encroaching upon me. I struggled to make sense of my surroundings, but my mind was a jumbled mess of confusion and disorientation. A metallic tang filled my nostrils, and I soon realized that blood was dripping from my nose, staining my lips with its crimson hue. The sharp, searing pain that coursed through my body reminded me of the brutal blow that had been dealt to me by my assailant. I lay there, unable to move anything except for my breath, feeling as though the very life force was being drained from my body. A heavy sense of disappointment washed over me, a bitter reminder of the reason I had come to this place in the first place. My mission was simple: save Ayra, break the spell that had been cast upon her, and bring her back to safety at the hotel. But now, as I lay helple
I stared at her with eyes full of disbelief, trying to find some resemblance of Ayra in her features. But her face, it was like that of a stranger. My mind was caught up in a whirlwind of thoughts, unable to comprehend how this woman, who looked nothing like the Ayra I knew, could possibly be her. The more I tried to process it, the more confused I became. It was as if I was standing on the edge of a precipice, unsure whether to take the leap of faith or not.A feeling of uncertainty washed over me, making me question everything. What if she was a witch, trying to lure me into her trap? I couldn't take any chances, not with Ayra's life at stake. But something in her eyes, a spark of determination, made me want to believe her.I leaned in closer, trying to get a better look at her. The sight of her tears still streaming down her cheeks sent shivers down my spine. She was hurt, badly hurt, and in desperate need of my help. As I crouched down next to her, I felt a surge of compassion was
A shiver ran down my spine as I rose from the chair, my eyes darting around the room nervously. The lady who had served me the food looked perfectly normal, but something about her made me feel uneasy. It was as if a dark cloud hung over her, threatening to engulf me at any moment. Despite my unease, I couldn't deny that the food she had served was delectable. Every bite was an explosion of flavors, a symphony of tastes that I had never experienced before. As I pushed my plate away, my heart started racing. I knew that it was time for me to leave, but my legs felt like lead, unable to move from the spot. The lady smiled at me, her eyes glistening in the dim light of the room. I felt a sudden urge to run, to escape from her clutches, but something held me back. The flavors of the food were still lingering in my mouth, tantalizing my taste buds. I couldn't put my finger on it, but there was something about the taste that felt off, almost sinister. A bitter aftertaste lingered at the bac
As I listened to the explanation given by her team lead, I couldn't help but feel unsatisfied. It was as if there was something hidden beneath the surface that he was not willing to share. The more I tried to comprehend the information he provided, the more perplexed I became. It was a chilly evening, and a misty breeze blew around me, sending sharp chills down my spine. I wrapped my arms tightly around my body, hoping to ward off the cold. As I stood behind the tree, observing the scene, I couldn't shake off the feeling of mystery and suspense that surrounded me. The team lead and the other members walked away, back into the crowd, where everyone was waiting eagerly for the big reveal. But I remained rooted to my spot, lost in thought. I couldn't help but wonder what would happen when the students found out about the missing student. How would they react? Would they be afraid? Would they feel unsafe? My mind was in a state of chaos, and I couldn't think straight. It was as if I was
As I stood near them observing the team members of our host, I noticed something peculiar on their faces. They seemed to be enjoying their refreshments, chatting casually and laughing, as if nothing was amiss. However, there was an unsettling air about them that made me unable to look away.My gaze wandered from one team member to the next, searching for any hint of discomfort or concern. But to my surprise, they all appeared to be at ease, with no signs of anxiety or worry. This made me wonder how they could be so relaxed, especially given the circumstances.Just then, our host called her team lead aside, away from the prying eyes of the other members. It was clear that they didn't want to create a scene or attract attention to themselves by divulging the fact that one of their team members, Ayra, had gone missing. The last thing they needed was for the students to panic or lose their focus over the news.As I observed the team lead move away from the group, I couldn't help but notic
I attempted to reassure myself that Ayra's team had not arrived yet and she must be with them. I repeated this explanation to myself over and over again, trying to convince my mind that everything was fine with her. However, an unrecognizable force was pulling at me, making me disbelieve at the explanation I was giving myself. My heart was racing as I stood there, waiting for Ayra to arrive. The anticipation was almost too much to bear. I could feel a bead of sweat trickle down my forehead as I anxiously looked around for any sign of her. I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong.Just as I was lost in my thoughts, Travis appeared beside me and patted me on the back, bringing me back to reality. I turned to face him, feeling embarrassed for being so lost in my own head."Uh, I'm… umm.." I stuttered, not knowing how to respond."Let's go." Travis gestured, and I followed him, grateful for his presence. We walked down the stairs in silence, my mind still racing with thou
