Chapter 37

Adrian's POV

Pippa comes walking up behind me and without any reservations slips her hands around me, resting her head on my back. I didn’t think such a simple act of trusting affection could ever make me this happy.

I fold my hands over hers and focus on her emotions. There’s some confusion, a little fear and heaps of something I can only describe as melancholy. “Did you have a good talk with Edith?” I ask.

“Yes. She showed me how to access my power and how to use it consciously.”

It’s been a week since we came here. Our wolves are hard at work restoring the hotel and outbuildings. While exploring the grounds, I came upon rotting cabins around the lake where anglers and water sport enthusiasts used to camp. Edith didn’t think to mention it, because she hadn’t been down here in decades and thought they were all the destroyed anyway.
