CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

CHAPTER FIVE: GOODBYE, MR. X

Sarah and I talked for hours, her jokes and cheerful demeanor eventually lifting my spirits. When we finally decided to head back inside, I was able to walk on my own, a small victory.

Too afraid to face my room and the possibility of another nightmare, I slept in Sarah's room. It wasn't the first time I'd had this nightmare twice, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again.

To be honest, I didn't really know how I slept off. One minute, I was planning our long awaited trip to Mexico with Sarah and the next thing I knew, it was morning and Sarah's knock on the door woke me up.

"Breakfast," she said curtly, her body half-in and half-out of the door, her blonde hair dangling.

I groaned and stood up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. "Not even a good morning?" I teased, trying to lighten the mood.

Sarah gave me a look I couldn't quite decipher before responding, "Do you want to eat or not?"

I hesitated for a moment before asking, "What's on the menu?"
