« What do you mean by a tricky situation Old Al’ » asked worried Bianca.

The old man just made a sound with his throat. « It’s late… very late… I think you and Rosy need a good night's sleep. »

Bianca nodded briefly « Yes. Is there a place you could show me… no, wait! » She started to check in a panic her jean’s pockets then Alpha’s words finally sunk.

I have all her belongings in my pack and she will have to come by herself to have them back.

She raised her head and watched Old Al’ and Mat with despair.

Old Al’ took a glance at Mat. The young man took Rosy in his arms. « It’s ok Bianca, you can sleep upstairs tonight. There’s a bedroom with a private bathroom. There will be just the two of you though. What do you think? »

Bianca was conflicted. These two people kept helping her and she had no way to repay them at the moment.

As if he could hear her thoughts, Old Al’ gave a gentle tap on Bianca’s shoulder. « It’s ok… it’s a crazy night and you are a good one. No one is gonna mess with you in this place. If you want to repay us, you could help a little in the café tomorrow morning. A lot of people will come for the breakfast and more hands are always welcome here… don’t you agree Mat? »

Mat gave his signature smile « Of course, there’s a Luna ceremony tomorrow ! Lot’s of packs will use this road to join the Crescent Moon Territory ! I hope to make tons of money thanks to that ! Urgh… » he couldn’t continue to talk as Old  Al’ elbowed him in the ribs.

Luna ceremony? Packs? Crescent Moon Territory? Must be American’s traditions thought vaguely Bianca. Maybe I’ll ask later. « I’m in a position where I can’t refuse any help and… ». She looked at Rosy who was sleeping in Mat’s arms in peace « We really need a place to rest. I’ll help you tomorrow morning, just tell me at what time you need me to be ready and I’ll be there.»

The light bulbs had a slight variation and a gentle warm breeze seemed to bless the café.

Old Al’ and Mat both closed their eyes and nodded to no one.

When Mat opened his eyes, a light golden glow seemed to shine in them. « Deal! Look at me Old Al’, I already have a woman and a baby girl all for me ! » joked Mat. He started to climb the stairs. « And you know Bianca if you need a place to stay… I mean, a place you could call home. I could rent you the second floor of Crossroad Café. I could even give you a job here… you could start as a waitress or as the barista for all I care! »

Bianca paused and looked at him as if he has just grown a second head. « Really? I mean are you sure? You don’t even know me, I could be a fugitive or… a murderer? »

Mat laughed with mischief « Bianca, you drank my coffee… everyone will tell you I’m the best poisoner in town! If you try to kill me, I’ll make you drink my deadly espresso! »

« Even Death doesn’t want your espresso ! » said Old Al’ from far away. He did not follow them and was now seated at the bar, drinking a whisky. He was waiting for Mat to show Bianca and Rosy their room.

Bianca could not refrain a small laugh. «Thank you for your help Mat. I think I’ll help for a little bit…just to get the time to know the place and get my stuff back from Alpha… then we will go. I would hate it to impose on you… you have done so much for us already. »

Mat got all stiff when the word Alpha got pronounced. « Eeeh well… let’s do things slowly… step by step you know? I mean, do you really need your stuff that much? »

She looked at him amused « What do you mean if I really need my stuff that much? He got my passport, my laptop and more importantly my phone !… And I need Rosy’s baby bag too! »

« Oh you can trust me, he did not touch Rosy’s bag. Or maybe yes. But that would mean he is crazier than what we all thought and he took the whole car with him ! … and who needs a phone and a laptop nowadays? Just buy a smartphone and BOOM, you get the best of both worlds! Magic! »

« Seriously, I need my stuff back Mat. » answered Bianca « Also what is wrong with Alpha? Like he saw an abandoned car and he takes my stuff! And now, I have to go to see him to be able to get MY stuff back? »

« You said stuff a lot in a short period you know ? » joked Mat.

Bianca’s cheeks became red like a tomato. « That, monsieur, is because my level of English is not that good. If I had my laptop back, I’d be able to work on my vocabulary and give you all the synonyms of the word stuff… »

They both stared at each other before trying their best to giggle as silently as possible. They reached the second floor and Mat opened a massive wood carved door with a key. Then, he turned and gave it to Bianca. « You’ll find blankets in the closet. There are towels and a hairdryer in the bathroom. I know for sure there are soap and shampoo in here too. If something is missing, just tell me and I’ll bring you what you need. » Mat went to the bed and put Rosy right in the middle of it. He then proceeded to put pillows around her to make sure she wouldn’t roll and fall.

« It’s ok Mat, I’ll simply go to see Alpha tomorrow and get my stuff back… I don’t want to impose on you like that… » she started to say.

« Well, I would not recommend going to see this Alpha by yourself. The best move would be to tell him to come to you and not the other way around… and I mean, it’s not as if he could say no to you… »

« Hein? Why could he not say no to me? I’m not his boss or something? » Mat’s words managed to spark Bianca’s curiosity. « And why would he take my car in the first place? »

Mat now seemed uncomfortable and the light bulbs acted funny again. « Damn it… ok, apparently I should tell you… I think you might be his mate… and he might have taken your car because of your scent. »

« I am his what ? » questioned Bianca. « Geez » Mat let his hands run on his face « Bianca, sorry but it’s late, I am dead tired. You and I really need to take a break. Tomorrow will be crazy. I can assure you that I’ll take the time to explain things to you as soon as possible. Good night beautiful! » And he just got out and closed the door. Bianca was stunned and did not know what to do with the pieces of information he has just given her. « Guess it’s time for me to take a quick shower… A la douche et au lit ! She took a quick shower since she was scared that Rosy would wake up and cry. Rosy used to cry every time if she was not next to her. So Bianca always did her best to be right there the second she wakes up. Bianca sat to the bed and took a moment to enjoy seeing Rosy sleeping. She was admiring the ginger hair and the sm

Come, I’ll give you the uniform for the employees here. Don’t worry, it’s just a shirt with the shop’s logo on it. » Bianca saw the fatigue on Mat’s face and decided that it wasn’t the time to nag at him. She followed Aiyana and changed quickly. « I’ll need some clothes for myself. I don’t know how long I’ll stay here. At what time do you think I’ll be able to get out? » « I’m not sure. We don’t care about time here. What do you want to do? Maybe I could help you? The oldest one had his nose up in the air and seemed to smell her. They all had shocked looks on their face. Bianca had, herself, a surprised look. What is going on right now? Why are they looking at me like that? She thought. One of the guests said to no one « A human … ? Here? In Crossroads Café? » « Well, it is Crossroads Café! The place where every species meet! » Mat said with a huge grin on his face. Ayana gave him the notes where she took the order. « But… if you are telling us not to get close to that one… does that mean that she is… her mate ? » the oldest one said. • Crossroads Café   7 : Beta Connor

Bianca happily shook Connor’s hand. I have to memorize his drinking preferences for his next visit here, she thought. As she released his hand, she noted the solemn expression on his face. He looked perplexed and worried. Little did she know, that she put him in danger by touching him at this moment. This innocent and conventional gesture had heavy meaning for a mate’s wolf, almost sinful when it was an unclaimed Luna. Her scent was now on his hand. Connor and his men knew that he took a huge risk by touching the mate of an alpha… worst the mate of Alpha Black, The Mad One. They ended their drinks, chatting about which route they should take. They had other packs to stop by before joining the Luna’s Ceremony. They were hesitating between going straight to the party or going to the other packs first. They knew that whatever they would choose if the Mad One could smell Bianca on one of them, this would mean trouble… and maybe death. They stopped talking as all their ey

  • Crossroads Café   8 : the night it all started

The night it all started : It was a crazy night. The rain was pouring down, blinding anyone who tried to keep their eyes open under the heavy raindrops. A massive dark figure was lurking. It was making sure everything was safe for his people. It hated the rain as it covered the smell of rogues. Rogues, wolves without a pack. Wolves who sank into madness as they lost any connection to a group. Strangely enough, these lone wolves sometimes got together and had only one goal: attacking others who swore allegiance to an alpha. It hated them and killed them on sight, never trying to hear their pleads. Sometimes, it felt compassion to rogues as he could feel himself drowning into insanity. It knew the time was short, and it knew it had not as much time before his other self would fall into madness, taking his humanity too. It knew his soul was still incomplete, and it was slowly killing him each second breathing without a mate close to him. A

Bianca started to answer when a loud bang made all the walls shake. Some glasses that were on the bar fell shattered on the floor. Bianca began to walk to the front door, but Mat stopped her. « Please, clean the glass shards. We have guests coming in in a few minutes, and we can't let them see the mess, »said Mat. * * * Bianca nodded yes and went to the back, where she changed her clothes earlier, to take a broom and a dustpan. She started to clean up the glass shards when howls resonated from outside. Three men entered. They wore clean clothes. Bianca thought that they all had a typical lumberjack look as they had red checkered shirts with jeans. They all had long beards and had neatly tied men's buns. What struck her was that they all looked like they had trouble with their buttons. As she swept the floor, they came closer to the bar and sat on the stools. « Three cold beers, please, » said the youngest one. « Three beers are coming ! » answered Mat. He

« I am really sorry, » Bianca said again. « It is ok… » Alpha Wayne answered. « Can't believe the Mad One got a mate that beautiful… » he took a bitter drink and left his now empty bottle on the bar. He rose and made a sign to his Beta and Gamma to follow him. Bianca kept her under lip between her teeth. She was blaming herself for what happened earlier. « What a way to start your first day at work, » she thought. Alpha Wayne stopped on his track and made a turn. He put a hand behind his neck and looked timidly at the young woman. « Listen, I know we started weirdly, but… I just wanted you to know that it is ok. I am not mad at you… so feel free to act as if nothing happened between us. »Bianca's head went up super fast, and she gave him an incredible smile. She was so grateful for him to say that to her. « Thank you, Alpha Wayne, » she answered. He gave her a nod and turned back to get out of the café. He started to make her a coffee, but she stopped him. « Are you going to poison me as soon as the truth is revealed? » He started to laugh, and she followed him, their giggles echoing in the place. « No, beautiful. It was at this moment that the doors of the Crossroad Café opened to let the other Alphas in. The men were impressively large and radiated a strength typical of Alphas. They all bowed slightly to the Mad One and looked disgusted when they saw Augustine. "We demand to see the hybrid, and we demand punishment for the parents who dared to give birth to him," one of them said firmly. Bianca immediately turned her head toward the new group of wolves, her eyes like silver orbs. She raised her finger to them, showing them her wolf's fangs: "Sit down and be quiet, you morons." Magnus smirked. Bianca had just called them "morons," and now he knew the deep contempt she felt for all of them. They all stood up straight. They started walking like disjointed puppets and took their places on a chair around the big table. The Alphas looked at each other in terror, realizing their wolves would not allow them to disobey the order

Bianca gave him a beaming smile and snickered. "What do you think, Ari?" "Who's Elle?" snarled Magnus, displeased to the core that the cub would dare call his Luna so familiarly and worse: they had acquaintances in common that he had no idea about. Off to the side, Augustine straightened up and shot an accusing look at Alo. "Old man, leader of the Wind Tribe, what does this mean?" Old Al raised his hands as a sign of peace, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "That's the primary function of the Crossroad Café, to provide a refuge to rest." Harry jumped on his legs, stumbling and losing his balance as he tried to walk to the stairs. However, when he reached Bianca's level, she grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him back, preventing him from moving forward. "Hell no, dumb Ari!" she declared curtly. He tried to raise his head, but it was as if an invisible, monstrous hand was pressing against his neck. He barely managed to raise his eyes and met the incandescent gaze of the Mad One. In his mind, he could hear the heartbreaking cries of his wolf. The animal part of him bowed to the ground before a colossal black presence. Bianca started to take a step toward the Red Moon Alpha, but Black lifted her with one arm to rest her against his hip. With each additional step Magnus took, Harry felt more and more crushed to the ground. His breathing became labored, and he felt like his lungs and heart were being squeezed by an invisible force. Alpha Black looked down at him, his usual cold, the impassive expression on his face. However, no one could ignore the dull rage emanating from him. He placed a kiss against the temple of his Lu

His attention was focused on the upper floor of the café. He didn't understand what was happening but could feel Bianca's euphoria through their soulmate bond. Maska was trying to communicate with Mitexi. However, the she-wolf and the human had created high barriers around their minds. "Many moons since I've seen you, Alpha Harry," Old Al' greeted warmly, recognizing the imposing redhead who had just entered. The Alpha moved closer to them and watched wordlessly as the men gathered around the little girl. He'd been living in seclusion for many moons, and being around many people today made him and his wolf extremely uncomfortable. He'd surprised Connor this morning by telling him he'd be coming to the meeting

"Is it the prospect of meeting the other pack leaders that scares you, Love?" he asked his Luna. Bianca nodded and nervously scratched her thumbnail with the ring and middle fingers of the same hand. "You can talk to me, Love. There's no harm in expressing your fears out loud. It is our honor, Maska and I, to be here to listen to you and reassure you," he continued. "What does this mean, Duncan?" asked Black, throwing a stack of papers in his Beta's face. Duncan had remained perfectly impassive, too used to his Alpha's mood swings. His only regret today was that he hadn't asked his Luna to join them in the office. "Exactly what the papers say, Alpha Black. The packs are asking to see the hybrid Rosy," the Beta replied calmly, bowing his head. Duncan swallowed hard. His Alpha's lethal energy was growing at a phenomenal rate, and he felt his organs being completely crushed. "Why?" the Alpha grunted as he backed up against his leather chair. "Why what, Alpha?" said Duncan. "Why do they want to meet her? What's in it for them? What need do they have to see a girl's face? Are they challenging me, Duncan?
