Chapter 15: A Threat

[Max’s POV]

If it weren’t for this council meeting, I could be with my mate right now. I know the moon goddess knows best though, and we are exactly where we are meant to be. It is just that I and my wolf, Dom, have not been able to concentrate without her with us.

All the North American leaders are in attendance here. We received notice of this urgent and mandatory meeting a few days ago. The only way Sam and I were able to get Damen out of this meeting was to get emergency permission for him to stay with our mate to keep her and her son safe. Thankfully, the council elders granted us the request. I fully trust my pack warriors to keep her safe, but it is just not the same as one of us mates doing it.

Sam’s General and my Beta and Gamma have been in hammering out the protection details for the past six hours now. We have also made plans for the tri-circle mansion renovations and move details for Gia and Dante to move in swiftly and smoothly.

I registered Dante at the pack school for now. Although he is human, he will be treated as royalty as he will be known as mine, Sam’s, and Damen’s son, or stepson in human terms. We don’t use those terms in our world. When a mate has a child from a previous relationship, our kinship traditions automatically make the child like our own flesh and blood.

There are only a few species of supernaturals that use the prefix of “step” when referring to children born from a mate and someone who is not their mate, but that is not how shifters, fae, angels, demons, and vampires operate. I am so excited to have a son to take care of!

Sam knocks on my room door before opening it. We are all going to have to get used to a lot less privacy between us four. “Is it time,” I ask Sam as I stand up from my chair and grab my suit jacket. “The sooner we do this then the faster we can get back to our mate,” Sam exclaimed with eagerness.

We both exit my room and are met by Jason, Chris, and Sam’s General, Vinny. The council chose to have this meeting in Jade City’s Lotus temple, which is a city cloaked with magical wards to hide it from the human world.

Jade City is located near Red Lake Reservation in Northern Minnesota, which is deep in the beautiful north woods. The downside is that it is a good four and a half to five-hour drive from the Twin Cities.

The Lotus temple is a huge complex that sits in the heart of Jade City. It has a giant circular meeting hall in the center of the temple complex. Oddly enough, the entire complex is in the shape of a lotus flower.

The walls are made of actual Jade and the floors are of white marble. Fragrant Jasmine vines up the large columns that are marvelously placed around the temple.

A large arrangement of diverse plants and flowers decorate the entire city. I must bring Gia here someday, as I know she will love the flowers, architecture, and smells.

The five of us walk to the main meeting hall, which has a huge dark mahogany round table for all the leaders to sit at. A large spread of charcuterie, fruits, wines, blood carafes, and edible plants line the table for us to indulge upon.

Commanders, betas, gammas, and royal guards sit in seats behind their respective leader. We take our seats and chat with the other leaders who are seated near our chairs, while we snack and drink together. There are seven chairs at the head of the table for the seven appointed council elders. Those chairs are each fitted in design for the realms upon which each elder represents.

As soon as the pleasantries adjourn, the elders walked in and took their seats. This century the appointed elders have representation from humans, werewolves, vampires, fae, warlocks, elves, and witches. Silence engulfs the room as the elders take their seats. Elder Aeon of the Fae begins the meeting by thanking us all for being here and that he wishes it was under better circumstances, then nods to Elder Luca of the Warlocks.

“We have been receiving reports of kidnappings of men and women of each of our lands. The council has been investigating these crimes thoroughly and persistently, as we do not take these matters lightly. We have not found the perpetrators yet. However, we have found evidence and multiple witnesses who have reported that a distinct smell has been left to linger in many of the places where the kidnappings have taken place. With the help of Elder Bella Thorne’s coven of witches, we have determined the smell to belong to hunter demons,” Elder Luca explains, and a gasp is heard around the room.

Hunter Demons? They have not been reported on this Earth plane in centuries. “What is the smell so that we can put our warriors on alert,” the high warlock of Saint Paul, Trinton, asks. “Yes, the smell is a mixture of burning flesh and Hawthorne tree,” Elder Romero of the vampires informs us.

“There is something else. These hunter demons are working for someone or something that possesses powers to portal or cloak in a way that we have not been able to figure out yet. We were able to track the smell from a kidnapping of one of our females, to the Anoka Nature Preserve, but the scent abruptly stops a short way into the eastside of the preserve near Rum River,” Elder Anastasia of the shifters stated while nervously clenching her fists.

“We are advising all of you to protect your borders and inform the council of any suspicious activity near the borders. We are adding another layer of wards around Jade City to repel hunter demons. If you would like for wards to be put up around your territories, please send an immediate request to Elder Braden, of the humans, as he is helping our warlock, mage, and witch communities with protection logistics,” Elder Amaria of the Elves suggested.

As soon as the meeting adjourned, Sam, our crew and I raced to our rooms to pack. “I will send in the request for wards for all three of our lands,” Sam said with haste. We exchanged a few more plan ideas, while packing, and then met Chris, Jason, and Vinny at our vehicle to get back to our mate as quickly as we could.

I mind linked Chris to inform our warriors to heighten the border security. Sam informed Damen of the situation and instructed him to move Gia and Dante now. I hope we can get her and Dante to the mansion safely and get the borders locked down before anything bad happens.

I must pace myself though, as this is about her, and as much as I want to feel her insides with my iron-hard tumescence, I felt her panic attack happening and need to break her free from anxiety. Damen places his hand on mine as we sit in the back of this massive SUV with Jace and Dante. The instant his hand is on mine, my body relaxes. We seem to be heading towards the town of Afton, or at least in that direction from what I can tell. After turning my head to take in Damen’s exquisite features, I glance back towards my window. That is when I see it again! The strange silhouette figure appears to be moving through the trees and keeping up in pace with our vehicle. My hand tenses in Damen’s and he follows my gaze towards the figure as well. “We are being followed,” I say in a concerned whisper to Damen. “Once we reach the border of our lands, it will not be able to get through our current wards,” Damen attempt

[Gia's POV]The moment of impact of their magic upon my head produced tidal waves of energy into my being. It felt like a thousand hurricanes had collided with my skull, each with its unique fury and force, and they were all converging in an opus of chaos within my body. It was an experience beyond words, beyond comprehension, and yet, somehow, it was also beautiful in its terrifying way.The air around me seemed to ripple and distort. The world's colors blur and warp as if viewed through a broken lens. A bright light flashed before my eyes, momentarily blinding me before fading into a pulsating aura of energy that engulfed my entire body.I was thrust through an invisible portal in the sky and found myself falling feet first as the perception in the portal inverted. It is as if the two realms mirror each other's gravity, one where on one side you fly upwards, and the other you fall downwards. As my human vessel fell through the portal, a burst of energy filled my ears, drowning out a

[Gia’s POV]Staring up at the four goddesses, I began feeling even smaller in these vast phenomena of life, death, the after, and in-between. “Once again, I see your wheels turning in your mind, my child,” Visha said. “How do I become what you want me to be? My soul has not even progressed to the next stage of the divine being. I know I was on the “soul” path to leveling up, but I failed in this life,” I said in a melancholy tone. “We brought your body here with you. We need that vessel specifically, as we coded it for your transformation. You did not fail! You are still on your soul path, but with an extra boost in leveling up,” Hecate declared. The word transformation pressed forward in my mind. “Yes, you will go through a transformation, one that will change you from mortal to immortal,” Visha replied to the thought in my head. Of course, she can read my mind, I said with an internal giggle. “Wait, immortal! But I will outlive Max and my son,” I questioned in panic. “The blessings

  • Crossing The Bridge   Chapter 70: Air of Revelation

[Gia’s POV]Time slowed as the towering goddess walked from behind the triple moon goddesses' thrones to me. My soul buzzed with electricity the closer she got. Like an Amazon woman in some cheesy 70's movie, her height was unbelievable, standing at least ten feet tall. Her skin shimmered as if every cell was made of diamonds. In contrast, her dress is the boldest color of sapphire. The dress was knee-length with triangular-fringed ends. A shawl covered one of her shoulders, and both garments were bound at her waist by a diamond-studded belt. My eyes followed the trail of her exquisite beauty to her dark black hair that disappeared behind her shoulders. Upon her head, she wore a triple-banded gold crown with fourteen dangling Lemurian stones placed approximately two inches apart. When my eyes locked on her sapphire-colored eyes, I felt mine roll back into my head. A warm and gentle breeze flew through me, and I could feel her large hand take hold of me. A feeling of warm sand unde

The sound pulsed through my mind, it felt like sharp vibrations were shooting through my entire body, causing my muscles to tense and my bones to ache. With a sudden burst of force, my soul slid back into a physical body. The feeling was jarring, like being thrown into the world without warning. His grin was wicked and sadistic, revealing his true malicious intent.I did not falter or look away, as he marched straight towards me, with a grin that was twisted and malevolent, a clear sign of his sadistic joy.Our destinies seemed to align at this moment as if guided by the spark that had opened the portal between worlds. [Gia's POV]We walked through a different door out of the ritual chamber and entered a long hallway. The air was heavy with incense and the sound of our footsteps echoed against the stone walls. I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was being watched, that the very walls were observing me and whispering secrets to each other. As we ventured down the hall, the torches lining the hallway seemed to ignite on their own as we walked by. It was both impressive and unsettling, the way they lit up without any physical touch. What type of craft is this-magical motion detectors, I thought with an internal giggle as I followed death with the others in tow. When we reached the end of our path there were doors made of rich, dark mahogany, their polished surfaces glinting in the light of the torches. [Gia's POV]The darkness seemed to stretch on forever as I flew back, the walls of the tunnel closing in on me until I hit something solid. It was pitch black, but I could faintly make out the outlines of the walls and ceiling. The darkness was so thick that it seemed to swallow every trace of light, the only source coming from a faint glimmer bouncing off the walls. I could see a liquid pooling around my hands, a viscous black substance that seemed to pulsate and writhe in the dim light. Again, in this darkness, I thought as I stood up and wiped my hands on my dress. "It will not be long now, my child," I recognized Hecate's voice as I stood in the darkness. Her words echoed around me, bouncing off the walls and filling the void with her presence. "Hecate?" I called out, my voice trembling slightly. I couldn't see her, but I could feel her energy surrounding me. "Yes, my dear," she responded, her voice coming from all directions. "What is this place?" I asked, looking around in
