Heather walked out of the Jenner family home.

Just before she could get into her car, Brett caught up with her. His face was dark with anger. "Heather, what do you mean by this?"

"In the literal sense of it," Heather said calmly, leaning against the car with a faint smile. "I'm offering a fair price. Don't tell me you can't afford it, Brett."

"You're really drawing the line this clearly?" Brett's frustration simmered. "I'm not looking at just this land that you own. The investment for that entire area is huge. I thought you'd support me more."

Heather reached out, hooking her arm around his neck.

For a moment, Brett thought she was trying to get close to him, and instinctively, he leaned back slightly.

But he didn't pull away, looking at her with an expression that tried to seem tender, as if he could still play the part of the devoted lover.
