Sitting in my car, I stare at the restaurant. It's not the very expensive one, but it's cool, the tables are out, and it may not be a so wise decision because it's almost winter but it's a pretty sight with all the lamp posts and candles on the table. Makes me remember when I was in Paris about six years ago with Jacob.
I shrug, taking my lip gloss out of my bag, and applying it to my lip. The rearview mirror serves as a good way to check my make-up, and I fix my mascara and eyelid too. My heart's not on this date, but I think I owe this to Reid for trying so much. And maybe, I owe it to myself.
Bailey had set up so many dates for me but I turned them down, she gave up, but Reid didn't.
The waiter which I think is Italian ushers me to a seat and I smile at him, taking up the menu. I immediately put it down when I remember I'm expecting someone.
"You're not ordering now?" He asked.
"No, I'm expecting someone, I'll order then," I say and he nods with a crooked smile before walking away right after he dropped a bottle of Pinot noir.
I quickly take my phone out to call Bailey. I know she won't let me hear the end of it when she hears I'm on a blind date so I prepare myself for the worst and when I hear her squeaky voice, I tense.
"Hey, girl... If you're calling to come over Colton and I would be happy to..."
"I'm not coming over" I sigh, giving myself a facepalm.
"Oh...so you're home? It doesn't sound so quiet right there" Bailey points out, I roll my eyes. Smartass.
"No, I'm not home. I'm on a blind date" I say the last part with a rough voice and then cough after.
"What? Speak up"
"I'm on a blind date!" I sigh and there's silence before she shrieked and I pull the phone away from my ear so I don't go deaf.
"Oh, my world! That's so good. You're finally moving on" she chants.
"No. No, there's no moving on" I sigh, keeping a straight face. "And it's not because of Jacob" I add because I know what she was going to say next.
"Then what is? You're not getting any younger you know" She reminds me like she always does.
"I know, I know ok?, You don't have to tell me that all the time"
"Well someone's got to tell ya" Bailey sasses. I hear Kai making some plate noises in the background, and I'm sure she's sitting on the counter, waiting for her mom to give her some cereals. I won't even ask what Colton is doing.
"I guess you have to go," I say.
"Yes. Mommy duty calls" she said and giggled at her sentence. I smile because I love her so much. "Gotta go bye, and this is not over!" She pronounces the last part with a yell before hanging up.
I drop my phone facedown on the table, knowing she's going to question and squeeze every detail of tonight out of me when we see tomorrow.
I sit for another five minutes, which pisses me off. The guy was supposed to be the one to wait, and when the lady arrives, he pulls out a chair for her. I gather my purse to leave, when I see a waiter pointing my direction and he's talking to a tall brown-haired dude who seems lost, a tucked-in shirt, with jeans, and booted feet. He looks extremely Texan, plus the tanned skin. But minus the cowboy hat.
I almost expected him to say howdy when he walked up to me, but he didn't. Only looked super guilty in the face, with twisted hands and a small smile.
"I'm sorry about the delay. Becca?" He asked and I scrunch a brow.
"Yes, Rebecca. Nice to meet you" I say, not completely meaning it.
"Nice to meet you too. I'm Ernest" He smiles and the sides of his eyes wrinkle.
"Well, hello Ernest. Dinner was supposed to be six, this is past six" I complain and he apologizes again before sitting down. Oh, what do you know! He didn't even attempt to pull my chair. That's how it goes. The lady smiles, the man offers to pull her chair out and she refuses or something like that.
With a roll of my eyes, I seat, dropping my purse back on the table.
The waiter came back and this time I ordered because I was hungry and he wasted my time so much. Another bottle of Pinot Noir is dropped and I Immediately go to open it.
"Wine before dinner?" Ernest requested with a small smile. It's almost like he's judging me.
"I usually prefer it that way," I reply and he chuckled.
"That's ok. I like taking booze before lunch even" He says and my eyes widen. Huh.
"Then I drink more wine even in the process of eating like it's a juice..." I was saying.
"...and after dinner, I have have another type of drink" Ernest Completed and I have a very wide, goofy grin on my face in the end of everything. "Seems we have something in common"
"Yes," I say. My next game was to check on his reading skills. That's an area I need to be sure of. The only person that ever loved reading as much as I did was Jacob.
I hold on to normal getting to know each other discussions like favorite color, which he said was orange. Weird for a guy!. I know.
"What's your favorite book to read?" I finally pop the question when I saw he was talking too much about orange.
"I'm not exactly a reader," he says and my jaw drops. We're different in that aspect.
"So what do you do in your free time?" I ask, hoping he wasn't one of those guys that browsed useless stuff on the Internet while eating junk and sleeping on greasy sheets.
"I um... watch movies, or I hit the gym," he said, lifting his hand and flexing his bicep. It's clothed but I can still see it bulge under his shirt. He then winks.
Thank goodness he didn't try to kiss his bicep after flexing it. Ok, this date is turning out to be one of the worst dates I've ever had. I thought we had a connection at first.
"I don't get why you're telling me about your nana?" I ask him when the topic shifts to family issues.
"She's the most significant woman in my life" he replies, with a hand to his chest. Oh, he's a grandma's boy. "What about you?"
"I have a mom," I say stupidly and he blinks.
"Everyone has a mom, sweetheart" he half chuckles. "Tell me more about her"
Uh...my phone beeps and I check it. It's nothing important, just a normal alarm I usually fix when I'm on dates like this. And when it beeps, I know it's time to leave.
"I gotta take this call," I lie, pushing my chair backward, and standing up. Ernest is looking at me with a curious smile. Yeah, I'm not coming back.
Hurrying to the bathroom, I shut the door behind me immediately, breathing hard. That was hell!
Bailey picks up on the second ring when I call her.
"Girl..."
"Hey!" We both say at the same time and then Bailey giggled like hell. "What's up with your date?"
"The guy's talkative" I sighed, my palms slapping against the cold tiles of the bathroom sink. My perfectly curled hair now looked a bit rough.
Bailey burst into giggles. "That's a lot. So let me guess...you pulled the fake call thingy on him"
"Of course. I'm in the bathroom and thinking of a way to escape" I say it like it's a death sentence out there. But it is.
κ§ κ§
My ankle hurts. No question there. I jumped the bathroom window of a restaurant to exit the premises.
"Have a lemonade sweety. It calms you" my mom cooed into the speaker.
"It does, I guess," I say, sitting down and pulling my laptop in front of me.
"You should have more rest too. Also, I heard you're on a break..."
"Who told you that?" I frown.
"Bailey"
Of course. I sigh.
"Do you want to come home for some time, Colin and I would be excited to have you over for the weekend" Mommy giggled like a schoolgirl. Colin is not my dad, but my mom's husband. She and my dad got a divorce when I got freshly out of college. Then she married Colin four months after.
"I'm sure you guys would. I'll think about it, but don't count on it" I say, my hands typing on the keys of my laptop.
"Very good then. I'll await your reply"
"Alright, mom. Got to go" I say.
"Bye, honey" I hear her smooch kisses into the speaker which makes me cringe with laughter before I hung up.
Ok. My hands fumbled with the keys of my keyboard before I finally typed in Jacob Fox on Instagram. In a second, my ex's profile comes into view. Stalker much. I haven't done this in years. The only time I did this was a month after we broke up. I wanted to know how he was. He was in Colorado then.
But then again, after every failed date I have, I always think of him.
500k followers. That's Impressive I only got 10k.
I scroll down to see his recent post. He's in a trunk, bare-chested, his skin-toned to perfection, sexy scruff of beards on his chin, his hair was wet and his eyes a coral blue as he stared at the camera. I huff, so I don't smile instead. He looks good and manly after all these years.
I scroll, and the next picture is with him and a brunette, standing in front of the vast ocean. She's wearing a green swimsuit, a wide smile on her face as she stared at him. His left hand, on her waist. My fingers mistakenly move, double-tapping.
With a gasp, I slam my laptop shut.

There are so many places I need to be today. The mall included. I've run out of groceries because I barely spent time at home, so couldn't stock up. It's either I'm at Bailey's, or, on a plane to an awesome new country, on my job as a designer.Beep! Beep!... I set my mug under the machine, collecting little coffee, before I withdrew it, and gulped the whole content down. Strange! I didn't even bother to add milk or sugar to it.As I walk to my bedroom, I made a mental note to call Bailey that I was coming over later today. But as I step into the bathroom, and my eyes set on the mirror in front of me, I realized I didn't look like a person that wanted to stay home alone till later on, so I grabbed
Jacob POVI'm sorry sir we don't sell Pinot Noir in glass," The bartender tells me. I had only one mission. To come into St Barbara bar, have a glass of wine, and leave because I'm mentally tired and in need of something. A toxic drink isn't my solution right now. Besides, I have to drive back to my place."A bottle then" I grit my teeth, and he nods before walking away. My fingers tap against the wooden table rapidly.Michelle is getting married!... I've tried to live so long with the fact that she's perfect just her and her two sons, Eric and Jones. Since her husband left, Michelle has been alone, and Evey single guy she dated, always turned out to be an ass-hole just after her money. No one is right for her. Michelle isn't my ex, but my elder sister, and someone that has al
Due to my issues with my dad, I couldn't go into the house just yet to speak with him. Instead, I stood outside my car, staring at the country fence he loves to put up, and wishing he'd come out and see my first before I go in. The thing I have with my dad has been since my mom left.He divorced my mom, I still don't why. She left, and got married to someone else, a few years later, she died. My dad attended her funeral and even dropped a white rose on it. A white rose had always been a symbol of their love. But honestly, since my mom left, dad hasn't tried to be with another woman. I'm happy for that, but I still hold this little bitterness in my heart, toward him for sending my mom away. I was still so young."How long till you go in, son?" I hear my father say from behind. He's wearing a colorful shirt with a brown jacket on it. His jeans look faded. With all the money I and Mich have, he
Becca POVI push my cart around the mall like a lost woman, just because I'm looking for Nutella. They're my favorite and can go with literally anything when I hear someone call my name. It's a huge mall, and only a few persons could know me, but I'm surprised when I see it's Ernest. He has a grin on his face as he walks to me, his hands in his pocket.Ok, what do I do now? I fiddle with the paper on the cart. I'm exactly used to running into failed dates. It happened once or twice, but that was a long time ago."Fancy seeing you here, but hey! You gotta eat" he pulls off a very lame joke that has me rolling my eyes internally."Hello, Ernest" I greet. "Nice to see you here""You too, Becca. I was looking forward to knowing you more, but you left"Here we go..
I retreat from the counter, forgetting my bags there as so many memories come flooding back. All the smiles, the laughter, the fun, the lovemaking. Everything about him because we did so many things together back then. I always knew I had to face him one day, Jacob. But I just didn't know it'd be this soon. And I always felt anytime I did see him, prepared or not, I'd be able to stand it but I can't. I just ran out of there like a coward. Afraid to face my fears."Becca!"No! No! He can't be calling me. Don't tell me he followed me out here. I increase my step, I wasn't running but I was fast walking in this cold, which seemed impossible when I first arrived.Someone grabs my hand swirling me around and I'm met with the most delicious Coral blue eyes, so warm and inviting. I shrug my hands away from him and he just stood there, unable to say a word. I on the other hand had a zillion things to say but didn't know w
JACOB POVI don't know what I was thinking talking to her but when I stepped out of my suite to take a stroll, I found her seating by herself on one of the tables, staring at the menu. She looked extremely adorable which isn't a usual term I used when it came to women. My words were usually, hot, sexy, fuck-able at this moment, she looked all of those things. Her hair looked freshly washed and her green sweater, so fucking innocent but I knew better. This was the same Becca that enjoyed the sexual part of our relationship more than even I did which seemed impossible.Yesterday, I was completely fazed to see her here. It was like the universe was trying to play some joke on me when I'd told my sister I wasn't attracted to Becca again, booked myself a Vacation, and there she was, like a living relic gaping at me.I should've let her run away because I deserve it, but I let my foolish heart follow her. A
BECCA POVFor some really weird reason, I add more blush on my cheek than I would have. My hair is bunched up in an almost tight knot. I'm wearing a black dress with a fur jacket. It's not a ball or a party but Bailey said to dress nice. She's been to their diner before, and I haven't.Reluctantly, I pick one of my best set of pearl eatings to go with my dressing. I don't wear a necklace because I didn't bring any, but I wish I did. There's a knock on my door so I skip to open it."You look good sunshine" Bailey praises with a smirk and I smile at her, locking up behind me. I'm enjoying this little vacation so far, except for the part where Jacob just keeps showing up and acting like a saint. I swear if I see him today again, I'll peel all my hairs off."Where's Kai and Colton?""Already at the diner""You guys left before me?" I gasp."No
Becca POVMy hands twitch and I pull away from Jacob, staring up at him, his eyes are glued to my lips as he watches me pant from the intense kiss we just shared. What is wrong with me? He's just using me and then he'd leave just like before.I walk away from him in silence, going to pick up my board that crashed against a tree while I was trying to come to a halt. Jacob is watching me steadfastly as I walk around aimlessly."What are you doing?" He finally asked."Trying to get back up the hill""You can just keep going down, and we can take a cable from there back up," he tells me and I bite my lip in embarrassment at how I didn't think of that. So I brush past him, walking down the hill."Rebecca!""What is it, Jacob?" I question, my eyes full of regret and anger."Don't act like that didn't
BECCA POVοΏΌ Sitting by the beach with smiles on my face, I watch as Jacob played with our one year plus baby boy, Jasper in his arms. He was sitting a little bit away from me and building little sand statues. Yes, my life was at its happiest now and I love moments like this. After we had Jasper, four months later we had our wedding just our family and friends in the backyard of our mansion. We waited until Jasper was a year and strong enough so we could go on our first family vacation. Now we're here in the Turks and Caicos. It's been a year since Jacob moved to NY and even for himself, an office sited there. Indeed this one year has been the best of my life "Mama..." Jasper gurgled in front of me snapping me out of my haze. He's standing in front of me, a small smile on his face before Jacob sweeps him off his feet making him laugh hard. "This little
Three Months LaterBECCA POVοΏΌ"Wow, you look, amazing!" Reid complimented me immediately I step out of the dressing room. We're in Milan for the fashion show. The one I was invited for and I'm so excited to show off my new designs. The other ones are being displayed by models right now as we speak."Thanks""Wait till Jacob sees you in it, he'd swoon" Reid chuckled and I smile. The two had grown fondly with each other and it's so cute when I see them talking sometimes. Speaking of Jacob, he came with me to Milan and we're lodging at a hotel just close to here. My heart skips a little bit as insecurities begin to creep in. I face Reid."Are you sure the gowns are beautiful? I mean... people might not like them""Who gives a fuck what people think? Your maternity designs are way awesome. And
BECCA POVοΏΌI take their talk as an advantage to grab a nearby chair, walking to Ernest, I hit him on the head and he rolled off Jacob but quickly grabs the gun pointing it at Jacob again. Jacob spit out blood before struggling to his feet, I try to run into his arms but Ernest points the gun at me. "Stay where you are" he threatened before pointing at Jacob again. "I always get what I want," He smirked and his hands settle on the trigger. My heart skips a bit when I see he's going to shoot Jacob and without thinking, I run in front of them going to hug Jacob.Bang! Bang!I wait for the pain to come, for the tragic scream or something... anything...but there was nothing. I didn't feel any pain. What happened? I feel Jacob's arms go round my waist as we both crumple to the floor and I let out a sob.Lights flashed outside the garage
JACOB POVοΏΌUnlocking my car, I go straight to the trunk getting out all the bags. I can't even remember what we bought, but Becca kept throwing things into the basket and I let her because she was smiling all through which made me happy.I shut my trunk and reached in to get her cinnamon when the garage goes pitch black. Pausing, I take my head out of the car to stare around me but I couldn't see shit. What the fuck?! Then I quickly remember Becca and I became worried to know if she was ok on her own. Digging out my phone from my pocket, I dial her number countless times but she doesn't pick, and Fuck I panic like hell!Dumping all the grocery bags back in the car, I hurry to the elevator but then groaned out in frustration! The power went out so the elevators won't work. So I take the emergency stairs, jogging up as fast I can until I get to my door, and I'm a pa
BECCA POVοΏΌI stare at myself in the mirror, wearing a casual silk satin slip dress. It's been a week since we came back from Baltimore for Michelle's wedding. A lot had happened since then. Jeff called and said they finally tracked Ernest's car and it was parked by the side of the road, my guess is he abandoned it because he knew he would be followed. That's progress I guess, tracking his car. Soon, I hope they find him too.Secondly, Miranda Joe called me. You know, the big fashion designer and goddess in the industry. It was an email at first reminding me of the show where I get to display my dresses so I called her back asking her when? And she said the fashion show was in four months. So I popped the news to her telling her I was pregnant and she congratulated me."I guess when I'll be seeing you next you'll be heavily pregnant then," Miranda said."Th
BECCA POVοΏΌMy heart skipped one-two-three times when I see Jacob in his maroon suit, his hair perfectly combed and a small smile on his face. He's so handsome and a gorgeous man I feel suddenly blessed to have a man like him in my life. And the expression on his face as he runs his eyes up and down my body is priceless. The nervousness I was feeling a while back is gone now and I walk up to the alter, a smile on my face but I try to hide it. Henry left my hand and goes to stand next to Jack while I wait for Michelle to show up. I stare at Jacob again in the crowd to find he's already staring at me. Fuck me! He looks even more gorgeous now than a minute ago.The music changes for Michelle and everyone stands. She's so pretty and her smile light up the whole room as she walks toward us, her hand round her dad's arms. I suddenly feel sad knowing my dad would
JACOB POVοΏΌI woke up to an empty bed this morning and it felt so weird because I'm used to waking up with Becca in my arms, except when she needs to hurry to work early but now I just know she's trying to get away from me. I don't know how else I can prove to her that I'm sorry.I'm contemplating what to do with myself when the alarm I set reminds me to start getting ready for the wedding. I stretch, turning it off and In time, getting a message from Michelle asking me to please check on the boys and maybe Jack. Why would I check on Jack? I stroll out of my given room to the boys' room to see they were still in bed so I decided to call Mich."Hey Whatsup," she says when she picks."They're still in bed" I inform her."Ok. I hired a nanny for today and she would be coming over soon to tend to them. I place their clothes on a different hange
JACOB POVοΏΌBecca gripped my shirt with so much strength that I didn't know she possessed it as she pulled me away from Henry. Mitch and Jack were standing by the entrance of the garden now wondering what the whole fuss and scream were about."Jacob! What the fuck is wrong with you?" Becca thundered and I've never seen her so angry my entire life. It had me wondering what I did wrong.Henry clutched his chin as he gets up from the ground, glaring at me. "What the hell was that for man" he groaned."You were trying to make a pass at my girl" I grit my teeth and Becca flings her hands up in the air with utter annoyance."That's it! I'm done with you doing this" She muttered to herself before trying to walk out of the garden but I grab her hand pulling her to me."Where are you going?""Inside because I don't
οΏΌI eye jack when I step into the mansion. He's playing with Eric on the counter and he smiles when he sees me. Eric runs to give me a hug shouting uncle Jacob! I let go of Becca's hand momentarily to hold his small frame. Jones rushed down the stairs when he sees me and I try to carry them both in my arms.Michelle strides to Jack who's still staring at me, a smile on his face. "Hi, nice to see you again" He greets me and I nod my head formally. Mich throws me a glance and I manage to smile at Jack, she gives me a thumbs up."This is Becca. Jacobs girlfriend" Mich introduced and I frowned because I was going to do that just now."Fiance" I correct her before pulling Becca to me and kissing her cheeks softly."Nice to meet you, Jack," Becca said to Jack and they shook hands, I secretly pull Becca back to me."So you're getting mar
