~Rania~
I didn't know that I had a great stamina inside of me until I ran back to the second part of the plane with Ria in my hand. I needed to, scratched that, I had to save the bleeding man. I held my breath as I walked into the plane again and luckily for me, I didn't have to enter deep among the bodies. My bag was laying by my seat. I heaved a sigh when I saw it. Pulling the zipper with one hand, I noticed that all of my medical equipment was still inside. Ria shifted in my hand and looked uncomfortable as her head rolled down my shoulder every few seconds.
"I am going to make sure you are fine, " I rummaged through my bag and when I found a brown blanket, I sighed a breath of relief. I placed Ria on my back and tied the blanket around her making sure that it was pretty tight. When I had realized that Ria was safely on my back, I carried my bag and went into the other plane. "Oh no! " When I entered, the blood hadn't stopped pooling and the man had turned white as a ghost on the ground. I shook him vigorously to wake up and the response I got from him was a loud groan.
Thank goodness he was still alive, I thought as I wiped the sweat on my forehead away. Heaving a deep sigh, I rummaged through my medical kits searching for what I could use to stop the bleeding.my hand found my hand sanitizer and I applied it on my hand then I wore the pair of gloves that was in my bag then I removed one of my clothes in my luggage and pressed it on the wound. "listen up Mr…" I had forgotten his name. For someone who had a lot in her head, I couldn't remember his name. "I am going to remove the metal from your stomach right now," I said and all I received was a loud groan. " Oh God, help me!" I cleared my throat and in one pull, I removed the metal from his stomach. The man screamed out loud and I felt Ria shifting in my back. I patted her on the back and sighed in relief when she didn't wake up. "Thank goodness!"
Blood pooled out of his stomach like a river and I felt nauseous at that moment but it was not my first time seeing blood. I had seen worse but at that moment, it felt as if I was seeing blood for the first time.
I pressed the cloth deeper into the wounds to stop the bleeding while I used my other hand to rummage through my bag searching for what I can use to clean his wounds to avoid infection. My hand found another of my clothes and I pressed it on the stomach yet again to stop the bleeding. "Please don't go unconscious," I begged the man. "We are on a lonely island at the moment and the only way I can save you is if you cooperate with him!" I begged. The man didn't reply but his low moaning gave assurance that he was still alive. "Great!" I gently removed the clothes and dropped it on the ground. The bleeding had stopped because I applied pressure on it but the stab wound was deep. It formed a straight line on the left side of his stomach but thankfully none of his organs were affected.
"Do you have any allergies?" I asked him but he shook his head in response. I rummaged through my bag yet again and took out a tablet of morphine. "I am going to suture your wound but this would make you feel less pain. It's morphine!" I announced it to him. The mg for the morphine was 10mg and so I gave him two pills. " Open your mouth," I told him and when his mouth was wide open, I placed the morphine in his tongue. "please swallow," I begged him. "I'll look around for water later," I said to him. When I saw him gulp Down the pills, I went back to my bag searching for the suturing equipment.
Ria suddenly started crying on my back and having no idea on what to do, I patted her back and tried to sing a lullaby to her. "Baby, baby, don't you cry!" Tears rolled down my face as I cried out because there was no one else except for me, the dying man,and baby Ria. Everyone else had died when we all should be landing by now.
"It's going to be okay," The dying Man's voice sounded and that gave me hope. I nodded to his words and continued to pat Ria on the back until I couldn't hear her crying again.
"Thank God!" I chuckled and opened the suturing box. I bought out the needle holder, the tissue forceps, and the needle with thread. Since his wound was straight, it was easy to suture. I held the needle holder firmly and then using the tissue forceps, I exposed the skin towards the right side of the wound and I punctured the skin starting from the right to the left until his wound was sealed up and then I cut the excess thread. I dressed the wound with gauze and once I was done, I smiled. "All done!" I heaved a sigh and moved closer to the man, opening his eyes wide as they were shut and I placed a hand on his neck. "seems like the drug is starting to work but you are totally fine now!" I announced to him and took a deep breath.
I had just saved the man from his death. But to make sure that I didn't assume that all was well, I checked his temperature with a thermometer I found in my bag. After reading his temperature, it reads 38 degrees Celsius meaning that he had a fever but he was out of the danger Zone. "You are going to be fine," I removed the gloves covered with blood from my hand and ruffled my hair. Sitting on the floor, I sighed briefly while thinking about everything that had happened in the last few hours.
Never have I thought that I was going to be in a situation where I had to struggle so much to survive. My thoughts went over to Daya who must have been disappointed that I didn't attend her wedding. That moment, I pictured the disappointing look on her face when she realized that I wasn't present at her wedding. "I am so sorry Daya," I muttered under my breath and just then, Ria started crying yet again. "oh no!"
~Eros~I never imagined that my death would be so close when I haven't achieved anything yet. I had spoken to Daya, my fiancee that morning. After ignoring her calls for weeks, I decided to pick it up before the plane took off. "I know you don't love me yet Eros but you need to think about the baby," She had told me and I didn't bother replying as I ended the call and placed my head on my seat. "Are you alright sir?" Arianne, my secretary asked when she heard me hissing. "Do you want something to drink?" She was about signaling to the hostess but I shook my head in response. " I'll be fine," I told her and sighed briefly. " I am just worried about my wedding tomorrow," I fluttered my eyes open and turned to face her. " I don't think I am ready to get married yet to anyone." Arianne grabbed my hand and squeezed it gently. Even though she was my secretary, I look up to her as the older sister that I never had. "It's going to be fine Eros," she assured me and I nodded in response. "Y
~Rania~"I'm almost ready to board the plane. I'll be there for your wedding, "As my best friend kept reminding me about her wedding to her sweetheart, I laughed into the phone. It was tomorrow, and I had to fly back that evening because of her. I had worked long and hard during the week, and I had traveled from Mecianda to Nigeria to assist in a surgery that lasted a few days. It was one of the most bizarre surgeries I'd ever done. As a neurosurgeon, I see patients' brains on a daily basis, and every time I walk past someone, I'm reminded of what their brains might look like.Sounds like something a psychopath would say, but believe me, I'm not one."Don't be concerned, Daya; I'll be at your wedding, and we'll party until we drop!" I laughed, trying hard not to sound tired, but I couldn't keep it up for long. I was dizzy from the desire to lie on my pillow and close my eyes for two days. My vision became hazy, and when I tried to blink, I hit a ro
~Rania~I awoke to the sound of a baby wailing and waves crashing. I felt something heavy in my hand and gripped it as if it were my life. When I opened my eyes, the sunlight blinded me. It took me about five minutes to realize I was sitting on My seat on the plane. The seat was turned upside down and appeared to be keeping me from smashing my face into the ground. When blood ran down my face and landed on my hand, I realized I was holding Ria, who was wailing quite loudly. I groaned in agony and clutched Ria's hand tightly. I had no idea how she or I had survived because everything went black when the plane crashed. I took one of my hands off her body, unbuckled, and quickly rolled over so Ria wouldn't fall to the ground. I shielded myself with my hand, and I swear my bone cracked as I hit the ground. "Ouch! " I screamed in agony. Ria continued to sob, and I couldn't tell why because I couldn't see her face. "What should I do?" Ria's mother was suppo
