Nortia's POV

I erupted into laughter, a hand to my stomach at what he had just said, that had to be a joke, a massive one because I couldn't imagine anyone saying that.

Was he one to casually make jokes just like this one? I pondered.

I waited for him to join me, but he didn't, instead his eyes were waiting, and he kept gazing at me like something wasn't right.

“ You are serious?” I asked, when I noticed how he didn't say a word anymore.

“ You want me to be your contracted wife?” He nodded.

“ But you barely know me” it just didn't make any sense.

“ A night with you is what I needed to know all of that,” he explained.

I heaved, taking in a deep breath before plopping to the chair.

“ Spill”

“ Nortia”

“ Why would you want me to be your contracted wife? I mean, there are a lot of girls out there, and you hardly know me, and besides it was just sex, and sex could happen to anyone”

He dragged in a breath before he said. “I have to get married, I don't have anyone nor a gf”

Alexis's POV When I watched her scribble on the part that made her my wife right here and now, I couldn't help but stop myself from throwing a punch in the air, that was all that I needed. Two years was a lot, possibly too long to figure out whatever it was that I felt toward her, since I couldn't place my hands to know if it was love or merely attraction. “ I’m done” she uttered, pulling me out of my thoughts. I flashed a smile at her, before leaning closer. “ What would you be doing today?” I pulled her back when I noticed she was about leaving. Why was she so quick to leave? She glared at me. “ I don't think you have any right to know”I folded my hands underneath my chest, edging closer. “ Oh, I do. I am your husband, and you are to let me know of any inconvenience, do not keep them away from me. I will make sure you don't have to worry about anything else, all you have to do is say the word” She didn't look convinced as a pout remained on her lips before she wriggled her

Nortia's POV I waited until he was gone before I sneaked out, almost racing down to the company because I knew they would be worried sick by now. This was a first for me, so I was so certain I was going to be cut some slack. Pulling the door open, my steps came to a halt when I stood in front of my cubicle but someone else was already seated, one who wasn't me. I swallowed down the lump in my throat while I managed to muster up the energy to ask. “ This is mine, why are you here?”A young girl gave me a smile before picking up an envelope. “ I was asked to hand you this in case you come in here” I snapped it open, my heart plummeting at what I saw.“ They can't…they just can't…” I whispered. I had worked so hard to get here, and I was supposed to be promoted, so why was I getting sacked?“ Who?” My grasp tightened around the envelope as I demanded an answer. “ It was here when I got in here with the instructions boldly written on it” I walked across the marble tiles, headin

  • Contractual Marriage: The billionaire's Woman     A visitor

Alexis's POV She went rigid against my arms, showing she wasn't expecting me, was that gratitude I see in those eyes? Her sister, who had forced herself up, had a smile on her face as she stared at me. Conjuring up a tone I knew wasn't real, she asked.“ And you are?” “Alexis Williams” “ Alexis Williams!” Her mother yelped out, before clasping a hand over her mouth. “ The Alexis Williams? Or…”I held out a hand at her. “ CEO Williams corporation” I added. “ I’m Samantha, and I'm Nortia's sister, the only one she has in this world” she beamed excitedly. I withdrew my hand, making sure she knew how it felt before she withdrew back into her shell. “ I guess you aren't a fan of handshakes then”I scoffed, I could see what she was doing, and she had lied. I had overheard her talking down on Nortia and anyone who talked down on my wife didn't deserve me speaking to them. “I am actually, but it is from the right person, it just turns out that you aren't the appropriate one” “ So

Alexis's POV That was pretty fast, I thought it would take weeks or almost days before she decided to show up here, but coming in here now was sudden and shocking as well. Shoving Gerald aside gently, I ordered. “ Bring her in,”My strides were powerful as I sauntered into my office, my hand caressed the ivory oak wood before sitting on the leather cushion as I waited for her to step in. Whatever perfume she had on assaulted my nostrils before she walked in, I cringed at how nauseating it was before her heels echoed in. They clicked on the tile, and she was dressed in a gown so skimpy that it left little imagination to anyone's eyes, but I wasn't anyone. If she thought this little act of hers was going to make me fall for her then she hadn't done any research on me in the first place. She took her seat just opposite me, pushing up her cleavages properly. “ So why are you here?” I asked when she was seated, finger running on the keyboard as I tapped on it.I could get my secret

Nortia's POV My hands clenched the phone while I thought about how exactly I was going to bring up this to him. My eyes stared at the message, the font glaring at me. Bring your husband home tomorrow, I will be at home waiting. That was from my uncle, and I knew he must have heard it from Samantha and my aunty. I knew it wasn't going to be that long before I got his message about this, but it was so fast. I sat on the bed, staring at the ceiling while I tried to come up with a solution, one that involved Alexis coming with me despite how busy he might be. I sat upright when my phone rang out, before a voice spoke out. “Come down” his velvety smooth voice rumbled across, jabbing me in my heart.I stood up quickly, taking a proper look in a mirror just to ascertain if I was perfect, I had to look the part. My hands clenched the lip gloss as I ran it over my lips and when I was sure it looked perfect, I raced out, my feet glided across. “ You came out pretty fast, were you wait

  • Contractual Marriage: The billionaire's Woman    Confrontation

Nortia's POV I was dumbfounded at the words he had just said while hoping that I had heard wrong, it could be anyone but not him. Not my uncle as well. For a moment I had thought that he was different and that there was no way that he would say such a thing, he wouldn't stop me from taking my parents from the hospital. My brows kissed as I asked, wanting to be sure that I had heard him correctly at first. “ What did you just say?” I questioned. “ There is no way you can take them out of the hospital, Nortia. I can't let that happen, you have to do whatever it is that you want to here and….” His gaze flickered to Alexis who stood beside me, his hand resting on my lower back as he tried to show his support. “Why?” I demanded, wanting to know. “ Is there a reason why you don't want me to take my parents out of here? They are mine, not yours. Like I told you, the drugs that have been administered to them all these years turned out to be fake and we have to take them out before it w

  • Contractual Marriage: The billionaire's Woman    For her

Alexis's POV It wasn't clear to me why seeing her broken made my heart ache, I had never felt this way before, it was so different from all others, no matter how hard I tried to shove that aside, it stuck persistently. I had barely placed a foot out of the doctor's office when I noticed she was nowhere to be found, a curse left my lips as I sauntered down as fast I could, my heart slammed so hard against my chest as I tried to find out where she could be. I racked my head for an answer and everything led to the fact that she might have gone after her uncle. Weaving a hand through my hair, I raced down, barely able to catch my breath when rage coursed through me. She was pinned against the car, tears cascading down her face and she could barely move an inch. Gulping down my spittle, I sprinted down breaking into a race as I shoved him off before slipping her behind me. “ What the hell do you think you are doing?!” I demanded. If he had done this to anyone else, I wouldn't have

Nortia's POV No one has done what he did for me. I sat speechless, staring at him while fighting the urge to shed those tears that clung to my throat because it was so different, so different from what I had been expecting. “ Why?” I asked, emotions clinging to my throat as I did. Shoving down the tears that attempted to walk up my eyes, I questioned. “ What did I do that you would do something like that for me?”I hated that I kept comparing him to Maxwell but he was the only one I had been with, the one who had shown me love in such a way that I never knew would be possible, claimed to have loved me but had hurt me beyond repair. I let his hands slip underneath my hair, he held a finger over my face, running it gently as a smile crested across his face at me. “ Because you are my wife, Nortia,” he answered. I gulped in, nodding my head while fiddling with my fingers. That had to be it, what exactly was I thinking about? That he would love me? It was too soon, and besides no o

Nortia's POV My hand tightened around the file while Alexis drove home, my heart thudding so fast as well. I couldn't wait to get back just to open this up but a side of me couldn't help but contemplate on what exactly would happen if it turned out it was more than what I was expecting, if I would be able to handle the consequences of insisting on seeing in even when any wise person will do everything not to open up past baggage. When Alexis drove in, coming to a halt in front of the house, I slipped out, sauntering out before he could rush after me. “ Nortia” he called behind me as my footsteps raced up the stairs, not stopping to take a glance at him, I stomped up the stairs, slamming the door behind me. Leaning against the door when I had the door knotted properly, I held a hand to my heart grazing the edges of the invitation card which I had received. Was it going to be bad if I say I felt a bit hurt seeing the invitation card? I know I wasn't supposed to be but I was unabl

Alexis's POVWords failed me at that moment because I knew she was trying so hard to hide the tears that were on her face. I held onto her arms which she flung away, tension hummed above us while I tried to calm everything down. “ Get away from me!” She screamed before breaking off into a race, one that had me running after her as well as I cussed. “ Nortia” I called out, listening to her footsteps as she raced out. I knew the paparazzi were out there and it wasn't going to take any more time before she got out there with everyone wanting to take pictures of the moment which they wouldn't be expecting. “ What do you think is going to happen if you step out right now? Please stop!” I begged, still looking around as I tried to get her to stop. A hand around her arm had her turning around as she screamed at me. “ What! What do you want?” “ Please get in” I begged, almost at wit's end as I did so. “I was transparent from the start, I never lied and I told you all that you wanted

Nortia's POV I knew she had said all of those because she had seen how affected I had been not just by her presence but her words as well. Holding the cup with such a tight grasp that it would have cracked, I forced myself to stop thinking about what was to come and direct my focus instead on the dinner. I could talk about this later at home but for now, it would be better if I just enjoyed this. “ I am sorry if I made you feel that way, it wasn't my intention” she apologized but I could sense the apprehension in her tone. She had meant what she had just said, although she had dashed it away hinting on how she didn't mean it that way, but I wasn't going to be a fool to believe that in the slightest way. “ It's fine, I am sure that you wouldn't do that anymore, besides, my husband will never glance at you twice because I can see how much you repulse him” I gauged her expression for what would be her answer when her lashes flustered at what I had just said before she held her bag,

  • Contractual Marriage: The billionaire's Woman    Getting mixed

Alexis's POV My hands folded in a clench while I tried to come up with something, probably an explanation to Nortia as it had finally dawned on me that putting this off until now hadn't been a good choice. She was bound to overthink things and I didn't know what she would be thinking right now with Charity still here, might be thinking I must have invited her here. “ Hey, welcome” Charity held out a hand to her, one which she didn't hold showing outright she wasn't in for any bullshit. I swallowed, running my eyes around before dropping to the chair just beside her, the lunch date going so awkward even before it started. “ I am sorry if I make you uncomfortable, but I just decided to meet up with Alexis because it's been long” “ Not I” I said in defense of myself, I didn't like the way she was talking as though she was here for me when in the first place I hadn't even invited her. “ I came to your office but you wouldn't let me in” Nortia jerked her head in an instant, taking

  • Contractual Marriage: The billionaire's Woman    Her place

Nortia's POV It was aggravating to know that there were numerous things I didn't know about Alexis, while all of this time, all he had said something about me knowing him and him knowing me also were all lies that he had said to me. I had been stunned to see Genevieve when she walked in through the door, peering at me eagerly, and when the words:“ Who are you?” Had slipped out of my lips, I had seen the look on her face that held disappointment and I knew she had every right to feel that way. Alexis hadn't said a word to me about her, neither in passing and I had been shocked when she had mentioned that she was his sister but that had left me shocked because she looked so different from the regular girls I would have expected her to be. Snobbish, rude and always pissed off, instead she gave off this calm aura that made you drawn to her and made you want to know everything about her so we bonded quickly with her talking endlessly about Alexis and their bond. I could tell their bo

  • Contractual Marriage: The billionaire's Woman    Dirty linen

Alexis's POV It was funny how the universe worked, after getting married or rather announcing that I was married, and there are love up pictures of I and my wife everywhere, she decided to pop up from God knows where just to sabotage what I have right now because there was nothing else that I would get from this. That was the only opinion that I could deduce because if it wasn't that, then I didn't know how exactly she would just show up, claiming that she wanted to meet with me. I was off-bound and I didn't want to see her. “ Let her know that I am busy and I can't see her, also let her know that my wife wouldn't want me being with her” “ I will do just that,” Gerald replied before walking away. I stood, hands on my waist while I tried to understand where this was coming from, whatever I had with her was in the past and she had torn my heart as well. She had done worse than what Maxwell had done to Nortia because stupid me back then had insisted on her staying even after I had

  • Contractual Marriage: The billionaire's Woman    Old fling

Alexis's POV Her words didn't seem convincing as though she was hurt by what I had said or she wasn't expecting that I had anyone else who would be by my side aside from her. I knew from how fast her countenance had changed that she wasn't going to answer me right now and I was at a loss still wondering if I was to give her some time or stay back as I needed to know which one it would be. When she didn't give an answer, neither did she say a word, I knew that she was already pissed off at me and so I knew space would be welcoming. “ I will be off now” I took steps closer to her attempting to kiss her on the cheek when she threw her head to the side. “ Nortia, don’t be this way” I urged, still trying to have a go at it when she did the same thing as she had done initially. “ Fine, I will leave now and wait for you to be calm a bit, but you should know that no one else have my heart aside you of course” I waited for her to say something and when the answer wasn’t coming forth, I w

Nortia's POV I knew that the relief I felt had stemmed from the fact that my co workers had been shocked to see Alexis, there happened to be a satisfaction from what I had just witnessed that I never knew was there. Samantha had been aggrieved, pissed even and I was glad that Alexis had used the moment to my advantage, so what exactly was wrong with me going to his workplace? Since it was in the open already. “Your mum?” “ She's okay, didn't say a word to my father though because she said it would have him mad”“ At me or at you?” “ Both of us, he hates deceit more than anything” “ But we are trying to make this work, I mean, you can tell and we are putting in the effort,” I explained. Anyone could see that, maybe this would turn out just fine the way that we wanted, the one where we both loved each other and we had to be by each other side by the way through. I didn't know where the car had ended up but it looked like an underground parking lot which might lead to his office

Alexis's POV I had thrown all the caution to the wind as I strolled across immediately the car had come to a halt just in front of the company, not mine but hers, a few questions with some trying to shove up their boobs at me when they noticed who I was had me over here. I haven't seen her panic the way she did and so I knew I had to do something, that had led me to saying; “ I am here for my wife, Nortia Williams” every eyes had turned to me with Nortia almost dropping on the chair when I said that, was that good news or was I supposed to be getting up and walking away right now?I checked her eyes for what exactly it was and which one I was to go with but I couldn't get anything from her eyes so I had to go with the notion that she was fine and I wasn't supposed to be worried about anything. My eyes went to Samantha who seemed to have been brewed in rage and toppled out, drawing closer, she had a smile on her face before she said “ My cousin is all over here, I am trying to get
