Alexis's POV

That was pretty fast, I thought it would take weeks or almost days before she decided to show up here, but coming in here now was sudden and shocking as well.

Shoving Gerald aside gently, I ordered.

“ Bring her in,”

My strides were powerful as I sauntered into my office, my hand caressed the ivory oak wood before sitting on the leather cushion as I waited for her to step in.

Whatever perfume she had on assaulted my nostrils before she walked in, I cringed at how nauseating it was before her heels echoed in.

They clicked on the tile, and she was dressed in a gown so skimpy that it left little imagination to anyone's eyes, but I wasn't anyone.

If she thought this little act of hers was going to make me fall for her then she hadn't done any research on me in the first place.

She took her seat just opposite me, pushing up her cleavages properly.

“ So why are you here?” I asked when she was seated, finger running on the keyboard as I tapped on it.

I could get my secret

Nortia's POV My hands clenched the phone while I thought about how exactly I was going to bring up this to him. My eyes stared at the message, the font glaring at me. Bring your husband home tomorrow, I will be at home waiting. That was from my uncle, and I knew he must have heard it from Samantha and my aunty. I knew it wasn't going to be that long before I got his message about this, but it was so fast. I sat on the bed, staring at the ceiling while I tried to come up with a solution, one that involved Alexis coming with me despite how busy he might be. I sat upright when my phone rang out, before a voice spoke out. “Come down” his velvety smooth voice rumbled across, jabbing me in my heart.I stood up quickly, taking a proper look in a mirror just to ascertain if I was perfect, I had to look the part. My hands clenched the lip gloss as I ran it over my lips and when I was sure it looked perfect, I raced out, my feet glided across. “ You came out pretty fast, were you wait

Nortia's POV I was dumbfounded at the words he had just said while hoping that I had heard wrong, it could be anyone but not him. Not my uncle as well. For a moment I had thought that he was different and that there was no way that he would say such a thing, he wouldn't stop me from taking my parents from the hospital. My brows kissed as I asked, wanting to be sure that I had heard him correctly at first. “ What did you just say?” I questioned. “ There is no way you can take them out of the hospital, Nortia. I can't let that happen, you have to do whatever it is that you want to here and….” His gaze flickered to Alexis who stood beside me, his hand resting on my lower back as he tried to show his support. “Why?” I demanded, wanting to know. “ Is there a reason why you don't want me to take my parents out of here? They are mine, not yours. Like I told you, the drugs that have been administered to them all these years turned out to be fake and we have to take them out before it w

Alexis's POV It wasn't clear to me why seeing her broken made my heart ache, I had never felt this way before, it was so different from all others, no matter how hard I tried to shove that aside, it stuck persistently. I had barely placed a foot out of the doctor's office when I noticed she was nowhere to be found, a curse left my lips as I sauntered down as fast I could, my heart slammed so hard against my chest as I tried to find out where she could be. I racked my head for an answer and everything led to the fact that she might have gone after her uncle. Weaving a hand through my hair, I raced down, barely able to catch my breath when rage coursed through me. She was pinned against the car, tears cascading down her face and she could barely move an inch. Gulping down my spittle, I sprinted down breaking into a race as I shoved him off before slipping her behind me. “ What the hell do you think you are doing?!” I demanded. If he had done this to anyone else, I wouldn't have

Nortia's POV No one has done what he did for me. I sat speechless, staring at him while fighting the urge to shed those tears that clung to my throat because it was so different, so different from what I had been expecting. “ Why?” I asked, emotions clinging to my throat as I did. Shoving down the tears that attempted to walk up my eyes, I questioned. “ What did I do that you would do something like that for me?”I hated that I kept comparing him to Maxwell but he was the only one I had been with, the one who had shown me love in such a way that I never knew would be possible, claimed to have loved me but had hurt me beyond repair. I let his hands slip underneath my hair, he held a finger over my face, running it gently as a smile crested across his face at me. “ Because you are my wife, Nortia,” he answered. I gulped in, nodding my head while fiddling with my fingers. That had to be it, what exactly was I thinking about? That he would love me? It was too soon, and besides no o

Alexis's POV With the statistics I was holding, I knew that there was something that wasn't right, and the fact that even though I had taken them out, it was going to take much more than that for them to be fine, showed how much damage the drugs had done already. It would take a lot of work, and a lot of effort to revert what had been done. I didn't know the amount of damage that had been done, but I was positive, I wanted to make sure that they were fine at the end of the day “ Can there be anything that can be done?” Nortia's voice came through, puncturing my thoughts. My gaze went to her, her hands shaking as she waited for an answer. I knew the doctor was trying so hard not to give her an answer that would break her heart but what was the need of doing so when he had even done what? He had given her the bad news outright without considering if she would be able to take it. “ I can't really say, but it might take some time” he answered her A puff left her lips when he said

Alexis's POV “ You want to talk to me?” I threw my head over my shoulders to be sure he hadn't gotten the wrong person because how exactly had he gotten to know where I was? Was he perhaps stalking me? Like I had heard also, didn't he have a pregnant wife or rather fiancee to get back to? I needed to make sure that they got married, as they certainly deserved each other. “Yes, you. I want to talk to you” I chuckled gently, not wanting to care about what he had just said but I knew it wasn't possible for me not to do so. “ The last I checked, we don't have anything together, do we have a business deal together or rather….?”“ Nortia, I am here to talk about Nortia” My lips curled into an inverted O, because it made sense now. I should have known that would be the only reason, but why would he want to talk about her? A ache grew in me at the thought that he had realized what he had done and wanted to apologize, but I hoped it wasn't that. There was no way that would be possible,

Alexis's POV “Do you really think she will ever find herself loving you? She will never, I know her and I am being truthful to you right now. Nortia will come back to me and that is something you should know” “Then why are you here?” I asked, perplexed. Because if indeed she was going back to him, she ought to have been there by now and it was something that he knew about but instead, he was acting so out that I would be ashamed if it happened that I was Nortia. “ I am here to talk to you first because you know what you are to do. Let her go and let her come back to me. She will make the right choice”I stiffened in a cackle, still ashamed of myself that I was talking to him at all because I couldn't imagine this was still happening. I had thought it was never going to but I guess, I had never expected it. “You left her for Samantha, have you forgotten?” I tried to wake him up Incase he had.“ And you think that I am going to let you have her after that? Nortia's POV The birds chirping at the window had me forcing myself eyes open with a yawn escaping my lips. I wasn't going to lie, but this was perhaps the best bed that I have had to lie down on in years, compared to the old cranky one I owned, and I didn't know when next I will have such a privilege. A pat on the bed had me rearranging it just right before I stood up abruptly, my eyes went to the wall clock, shocked at what I had found. It was past eight which wasn't the right way for me to start off on the first day, I was surely going to get some trashing which I hoped wouldn't get me kicked out. Running into the ensuite bathroom, I took a quick shower, making sure the water ran down my back before I stepped out. I was glad I had my clothes laundered a day before and so it wouldn't take much. Alexis had kept to his work and had sent Gerald over with my clothes which included my underwear. I had been so ashamed and had felt relieved when he noted that he hadn't been the one t

Nortia's POVWatching the clips all over again was heart wrenching, I had thought I would be able to do so but doing so now, I knew it was almost impossible. It was all documented there, the time where Alexis had clung onto a pole, almost dropping before Gerald walked in, the CCTV footage had captured every single detail and with each clench to the pole, my heart dropped with it as well. I wondered what exactly would have made Maxwell gone to such length because I didn't want to believe I was the reason for such an action. “ Are you okay?” My mother questioned, draping a hand on my shoulders. With a smile lining my face, I turned to look at her, letting myself immerse in her love. “ I know it feels awkward having us around, you must have gotten used to doing life all alone but I am here to let you know that we can always work things out, we have missed a lot of time and your father is ready to make it up with I as well,”“I don't hold anything against you” I answered, making sure

Alexis's POV “ Took them just long enough to get here,” my father added, before waving the doctor off. “ Thank you doc, I will get my assistant to send across your money, with your tips of course, thank you” Showing gratitude for even the smallest of things was sometimes my father had taught me and had inculcated in me, no matter who it was he was addressing or talking to, he would always show gratitude. He had said it once that everyone was the same and just because we were privileged enough to get this didn't mean we were supposed to treat people like they don't matter and it hoped to do the same when I had kids. Kids with Nortia didn't sound like a bad idea even though that was what I had wanted from her initially, now I found myself wanting even more than just that.“ Let them in, how's the shares now?” “ Stabilizing,” I answered. “ Nothing works better than public opinion, once the public is by your side, you have gotten all that you wanted and that is what we are going t

Alexis's POV I waited, glancing at the clock, each tick resonating through the air as I waited for what was going to be their response. My father had the phone leaning against his ears, while I tried not to think about how infuriated my mother was going to be when she get to know what exactly had happened. He turned to me, looking hard at me before he uttered. “ He's fine, he is okay, there's no need to send the doctor over, he doesn't need it”“ I know that you will insist but he really doesn't need it” my father said again and it wasn't hard to tell that my mother was making sure I wasn't hurt in the slightest way.A smile hung on my face, I wasn't used to this, but I knew she cared, she had always cared and maybe, I wasn't too grown for her not to still be that way. Placing the phone back down on the table he turned to look at me. “ Your mother is worried and she insisted on sending the doctor anyways, I didn't have a say in this” he explained to which I bobbed alongside. “ I

I was at a loss while I tried to come up with something that she would believe in, but I let out a sigh instead, her eyes inquiring as I did so. “ Well?” She waited for me to say something before I finally did. “I went up there with Maxwell, and things happened, a scuffle actually and he shoved me off” Her eyes flew open into lightings at my words. “He shoved you off?” Her voice broke. “You don't have to worry about that, I am fine and nothing happened as well”“ That isn't it” she let out almost in tears. “Your company has been affected and I don't know what it's fate will be, how could he do something like that? When my back rested on the cold floor, I blinked repeatedly wondering what exactly the article would have been if I had missed a step more and ended up dropping to the group. Alexis's POV My feet came to a halt just in time for what I just heard, my eyes swept across the hall before they fell on Nortia who was spellbound and couldn't say a word.I edged closer, bridging the gap between us as I went closer. “ Stop please” I held her father back. “You shouldn't do this, it was what he wanted, you doing this will make you fall into his trap” I explained. Anyone could see that and the smirk that laced his face told me that much also and so I knew that I had to get him to stop, him wanting that was so cruel of him and he wasn't going to stop unless he got what he wanted. I was left to ponder on what exactly he had in mind that he wanted to do or he had planned, killing someone was out of it, had he gotten to the point where he had dead his heart? That whatever was going to happen could happen but he wasn't going to lose the company.Doing so much for something that wasn't even yours from the onset was pissing to me but I knew humans and they were greedy, I

Will you be able to stand as a witness if it comes to it?” I asked, wanting to know that he had the balls to go along with his words and he wasn't just saying it because he wanted to. “ I can, everything you need is in there, it is going to be tedious and hard for you, but you will be acquired at the end of it all, you will win and that is going to be it”I gauged his explanation before letting Nortia accept it, holding onto it firmly. “ Thank you, we are grateful for this” Mr. Edward said, gratitude coating his voice as he did.
