ALPHA KONAN'S POV
Werewolves are always excited when they hear of mates, their fated ones. And if by age eighteen, their fated ones have not been found, they are thrown into anxiety, sometimes leading to incurable depression that consumes the soul. But I? I scoffed at the concept. To me, it was an age long nuisance of werewolves. It was upheld by fools, who couldn't see the chains it placed on their freedom. I resolved early not to follow that traditional part. I hadn't rested from the installation ceremony, and the council of elders was up and about encouraging me to commence the journey of parenthood and bear children who will continue the legacy. They spoke of legacy, honor, and the importance of choosing a Luna. Together, without much of my consent, they put on a mate-choosing ceremony. I had no option but to be present because it was the first event I was going to attend as the new alpha. The anticipation in the great hall was high. I felt nothing, only indifference. The elders whispered among themselves, confident that I would pick one of their daughters as my mate. Each girl paraded before me with charm, grace, and carefully rehearsed skills, all eager to become the Luna of the pack. I watched the whole show with an expressionless face. They were beautiful, no doubt, but beauty alone could not lead a pack. I wanted a fierce, intelligent, and strong mate. Someone who could fight by my side, make decisions in my absence and submit when necessary. These girls, no matter how skilled or charming they looked, were all bound by their fathers' shadows. The thought of tying myself to one of them disgusted me. I would not sit and have my decisions manipulated or my leadership questioned because of familial ties. When the last girl finished her display, all eyes turned to me. I rose from my seat, commanding the silence without even trying, and passed out my judgment. I rejected every single one of them. Their silence was unusual. The reaction was immediate. The elders, composed a while ago were visibly shaken. Their carefully crafted alliances and dreams of power had just crumbled at my words. The weight of their disappointment didn't faze me as I walked away. They could stew in their displeasure for all I care. I am the alpha, and my decisions are not subject to their approval. ------------------------------------------ MADELINE'S POV For weeks, the talk about how alpha Konan rejected all the selected girls who were daughters of influential elders in the pack was the bone of contention. The fathers of the selected girls even threatened to revolt against Alpha Konan. Alpha Konan had been extremely quiet. It was like a calm before the storm started raging. Ever since that night, I still couldn't believe how I ended up in Alpha Konan's room, let alone his bed. My memory of that evening was blurry, and I was sure something was wrong with the last drink I had. Maybe I was drugged, or something strange happened. I lost control and did something I never thought I would, something I deeply regretted. For days, I felt nauseous, constant emotional discomfort, tender breasts, and a weird appetite. I clung strongly to denial. My period was already two weeks late and it caused me to seek answers. The pack hospital confirmed my fears. "Congratulations Madeline," Petra chirped, misinterpreting my silence. I am so happy for you. Drey will be so happy to hear this. I am truly elated for you both." I wasn't even listening to what Petra was saying. Her joy was a cruel mockery of my reality. The world was spinning around in front of me, and abortion wasn't an idea I wanted to opt for. "Madeline," Petra called. You don't seem happy about this. Don't you love Drey anymore? Or Is this a mistake?" "Drey isn't the father of the baby in my womb Petra", I blurted out. Petra found the news unbelievable. "What do you mean?" she asked scrunching her face. "It is exactly what you heard, I replied. Drey isn't the father of the child in my womb." "Then who is the father?" Petra asked. "The alpha, alpha Konan." "Ugh______," she exclaimed drawing attention from people passing by. Her expression shifted from surprise to a mixture of shock and confusion in seconds. "Oh," I hushed her. "How did Alpha Konan become the father," she whispered to me. "I don't know," I cried. It happened on the night of his installation ceremony. I barely remember anything. One moment I was at the feast, the next... I woke up in his bed." My voice broke, tears threatening to spill. "Is Drey aware of it?" Petra asked. "No he isn't", I replied her. "Madeline this is a disaster. Has anyone told you that you are some crazy-ass bitch? You kept this information from Drey till it advanced to this," she gestured pointing to my still flat stomach. "How do you want to go about it? You know how ruthless alpha Konan is. Do you think he is going to believe a mere servant girl like you? He would think that you want to impose a baby that is not his. It was just a one-night stand, Madeline, and you don't stand a chance." "Petra, there's evidence. He took my dignity that same night," I said "Madeline!!!" "You think the ever-formidable Alpha Konan is this gullible, tying him down with the excuse that he took your dignity?" "This is so complicated, Madeline. Drey has been so good to you. This pregnancy is going to change the relationship you both had, it is going to destroy him. Drey's reaction to this is going to be...... I don't even want to think about it," she said, anxiously. "How do you intend to break the news to Alpha Konan?" "No idea", I replied to her. She shook her head in disbelief and started down the tracks that led to the servant quarters. My emotions fluctuated between my fear for Alpha Konan, guilt towards Drey and the impending challenges of motherhood merged with the fear that I may be an outcast among the female servants and members of the pack when it comes out in the open. I was going to let Alpha Konan know of the child in my womb. It was either he accepted it or rejected it and I was prepared more for the latter. I started down the road that led to Alpha Konan's quarters. I found myself standing nervously outside the door of his study, anxious to knock at the huge wooden doors. My heart was pounding heavily. I thought of ways to break the news to him. The door opened suddenly in front of me, and Dan, his beta, came out of his office, thoroughly assessing me. "Who are you and what are you doing here? What business do you have with the Alpha?" "I don't have a prior arrangement with him. Just let him know Madeline is here to see him", I replied in the most polite way, my heart still pounding within my chest. He went in and announced my presence and after a short while, I was ushered in to the study. "Why do you want to see me," Alpha Konan's voice echoed within the confines of the room. I was met with his intense gaze as he sat behind his grand desk. "Alpha Konan, there is something I want to share with you. My voice showed obvious vulnerability. It took a lot for me not to make a mockery of myself. Alpha Konan crossed his palms under his jaw, curiosity flickering in his eyes. "I am listening Madeline." His voice sounded cold and demeaning that I immediately blurt out the information without thinking. "I am pregnant with your child." I dared not look at his face. My composure faltered in every way and I hoped the ground would open up and swallow me. Alpha Konan left his huge mahogany desk and walked up to me. He lifted my jaw to make me look at him. His face was expressionless. "You say you are pregnant with my child Madeline." "Ye....s Alpha Konan". I presented to him the test results from the pack hospital. He collected the piece of paper from my hands and read through the words written on it. I dared not to look at his face. He called Dan in and Alpha Konan whispered something into his ear and he nodded in approval. Dan left and there was a momentary silence between us. It was a silence which could be compared to a double edged sword. In a short while, Dan appeared with a woman who seemed to be in her fifties and left. She also like me was also scared of alpha Konan's presence. "Strip Madeline," Alpha Konan commanded. My breath hitched. Alpha Konan's unexpected demand hung in the air, my eyes widened in surprise, and a gasp escaped my lips. My posture faltered deeply, and my face held a mixture of fear and disbelief. "What? You mean I should completely go naked in front of everyone here," I softly challenged. He raised his eyebrows in annoyance. "The everyone here is just me, you and nurse Maude. You claim to carry my baby, so strip, let her do a thorough check on you. Don't want to? Do you need my help? Which is it, Madeline." Nurse Maude looked at me, her eyes telling me to obey him without riling him up further. Humiliation burned my skin as I stripped myself of everything I wore. In seconds, I was bare in front of him and nurse Maude. Nurse Maude went further and gave me a pregnancy check up the crude way. "Alpha Konan, she is indeed pregnant." "Congratulations Alpha Konan." "How many weeks gone?" he asked. "Four weeks gone Alpha," nurse Maude replied. "You can leave," he told nurse Maude. I was still unclad and his icy stare caressed my body. "Dress up and leave. I will call for you when I need you. For now, keep your mouth shut about this".ALPHA KONAN'S POV I paced round the room, my mind full of conflicting thoughts. I remembered how Elyan, my wolf, reacted when I first saw Madeline's bare body. It was supposed to be one mistake, one indulgence, but now she carried my child. Revenge would have to wait to wait. I needed her and the baby to strengthen my position in the pack. She would be useful as a fake mate to quiet the pack elders who were concerned about me not having a mate or children. Announcing her and the baby at the next pack meeting, which was only a few hours away, would be the best way to handle things. It was an opportunity I couldn't afford to squander. "Dan," I called. "Yes, Alpha Konan?" he answered from behind the door. "Summon Madeline here." I ordered. "The servant girl from earlier today?" he asked. "Dan, is there any other Madeline in this mansion?" I replied coldly. "Sorry alpha Konan. I will get her right away," he said. "Hurry," I snapped. I sat behind my desk, drumming my f
MADELINE'S POV I was led to my room by the servant lady assigned to me by Alpha Konan. I sobbed all along the way and I wondered how my life would take its course from henceforth. When we got to the room, there were other servants waiting to help get things done. I looked at them through my tear filled yes, hoping someone would notice me, but they all went about their normal business, their behavior similar to a robot, as if I wasn't there, as if I never existed. The new room was one thousand times better than the servant cubicle. It had everything I needed to make life comfortable. I was taken in for a hot bath with fresh scented flowers that had its own unique fragrance. My legs were shaved and my hair thoroughly washed and cared for. I was told to sit in front of the vanity mirror, the head servant lady telling me that she would be with me shortly. Seeing my reflection in the mirror, I saw noticeable changes. My once lean cheek bones were becoming chubby, my nose looked bigger a
MADELINE'S POV His hands rested on my lower back as we walked to his quarters. I couldn't stop thinking about how he dealt with the elder who questioned the baby's paternity and my place as his mate. As we reached a quiet corner, his soft look changed. “Madeline, Alpha Konan's voice turned icy, his grip tightening on my arms. How did the elder learn you are a fake mate?" My lips parted in confusion, but I was determined to defend myself. His eyes bore into mine with hatred. "I don't know," I stammered. "Don't lie to me," he hissed, still holding onto my arm. My fear ignited anger. I may be a lowly servant, but I have dignity. Ask your people, Alpha. One of them must have slipped." “His expression darkened, a dangerous smile curving his lips. I was sure he was surprised at my talk back. "Remember your place, Madeline. One more mistake, and I will mark you as my real mate. Do you want that? A lifetime of hell with me? I moved steps away from him when he uttered the wor
MADELINE'S POV The sun had not even begun to rise when a loud knock echoed at the door. I jolted awake, disoriented and alarmed. The abrupt interruption of my sleep left me uneasy as I stood up to check who was at the door. Two warrior werewolves stood before me. “Miss Madeline, Alpha Konan summons you to the execution hall.” I swallowed hard, the dry sensation in my throat scratching painfully as I followed them. My mind raced in obvious fear. It wasn’t yet dawn, and the majority of the household was still asleep. I had no time to change into anything more suitable; I was still in my nightgown. Upon entering the execution hall, I froze at the sight of a familiar figure on the floor, covered in blotches of blood. Fear gripped me as I approached the body. When I recognized it was Drey, my eyes widened in terror and horror. “Alpha Konan!” I cried out, my voice shrill. “What did he do to deserve this torture? This inhumane treatment?” I knew that speaking out like this was stepping
PETRA'S POV The plan to kill Alpha Konan and Rosaline failed completely, and I still couldn't come to terms with the outcome. Alpha Konan and Rosaline were a threat to my Godfather, the man who rescued me from my near death experience. I had devoted my life to him ever since that night — ten years ago. Naturally every good thing came at a price, and the price was my life. It was one of those many nights when the moon cast its silvery gray glow over Moonshine City Pack. Everything shimmered, and in our little happy home, I still remembered the hearty laugh of my father, the pretty smile of my mother, and the cackles of my baby sister. It was one of the many memories I cherished, but also the ones that haunted me. I still wondered how I survived while watching my family perish before my eyes. The burning of our home, the terrified screams of my family while we were attacked, began my emotional trauma, leading me to my Godfather and turning me into a spy. It was Godfather who int
MADELINE'S POV. I woke up with a sore back and the day was already far spent. Events of the previous night came flooding to my forebrain, aggravating the already present pain in my brain enclosed within the case of bones it occupied. I remembered been escorted to my room by Alpha Konan's guards and I was repeatedly reminded that I was done for and destined to wallow in sorrow. For the first time in my life, I thought of my family and I wished upon them the same pains and agony I was going through. Sleep eluded me and I thought of the torture Alpha Konan subjected Drey to. I hopes he survives the punishment meted out to him and I cried myself to sleep. I noticed alpha Konan's shirt still draped on my body and I instinctively inhaled the familiar scent of musk and cedar. For some reasons, it gave me a sense of security coupled with absolute fear. A subtle knock was heard at the door and I huddled myself together and gave permission to whomever who was at the door to come in.
PETRA'S POV. I had just recovered from the punishment I received from Godfather a few days ago and it was time to begin executing the new plan. The only way to salvage the situation was to become close and undetachable from Madeline. I had put my plan in place. First, I was to go close to her and be her personal maid. Madeline looked very lonely and I was sure that she would most appreciate and agree to my suggestion to be her companion because no one wanted to associate with her. Two, understand her daily activities and find the perfect time to strike. To be honest, I felt pity for Madeline. She was the only servant who was nice to me. I just wished she weren't caught in this crossfire. I headed towards the lady's quarters with basket of fruit that I knew she loved eating. Her room door was slightly opened and I knocked. "Hey Madeline, thought you might enjoy some of your favorite fruits today," I said showing her the baskets of fruits I carried. "Hello Petra, it's been a while,
ALPHA KONAN'S POV I was momentarily entranced when I saw Madeline draped in the outfit— the black gown that accentuated her curves and enhanced the bump on her stomach. A sense of pride and awe swept over me and Elyan responded with a quiet , appreciative growl. Why was I feeling this way about her? Throughout the meeting, I noticed her shifting uncomfortably in her chair, holding a scrunched face as she rubbed her stomach and back. It was subtle, but I couldn't ignore the strain in her movements. It was time for the vote of thanks, I scanned the room, and she wasn't anywhere inside the room. Where could she gone to at a time like this? I could go through the remaining events of the night without her, but I didn't want to. A sense of unease pricked me, even before Dan entered the room and leaned close. "Alpha Konan," he whispered, his tone urgent. "Madeline has been kidnapped." "What?!" I roared, rising to my feet. You've got to be joking Dan. "What do you mean she has be
MADELINE'S POVAlpha Konan had been gone for weeks. I hadn't seen him since the day I rudely told him off at the Pack hospital. Those words had come from a raw place inside me, and once they were out, there was no taking them back. In fact, I didn't want to take them back. I thought they would make me feel better, and make him distance himself away from him, but all it had done was leave a bitter taste in my mouth. And then, he was nowhere to be found. At first, I noticed his absence in small ways—empty study, his commanding voice during pack meetings. But as the days stretched into weeks, the emptiness became worse. My wolf was always restless, pacing inside me like a caged animal.I tried to ignore it, to shove the ache down and focus on my daily life and life as a diplomat, but it didn't work.I couldn't stop thinking about him. One day, curiosity got the better part of me and I asked Rosaline about him. I tried to sound normal, though I doubt I pulled it off."He's out of the pack
MADELINE'S POVThe air in the pack hospital felt unnaturally still. Since I woke up, Alpha Konan hadn't left my side. At first, I thought nothing of his presence, but as time went on, it became overwhelming.Every time I opened my eyes, he was there, watching as if I might disappear if he blinked. The sight of him sleeping in that uncomfortable chair, head tilted awkwardly, warmed my heart and displeased me at the same time. I needed to make him leave."Alpha Konan," I called softly. His head shot up immediately, scanning my face."You are awake," he said in a groggy voice. "Do you need anything? Water? Or should I call the pack doctor?" He asked intermittently."I need nothing," I replied. "I am fine, better actually. You don't need to be by my bedside all the time."He frowned."I am not leaving, Madeline, until I am sure you are fully rested."His words sent shudders of unease through me. The last thing I wanted was to be a burden to Alpha Konan."I will be very fine on my own. Yo
MADELINE'S POVI couldn't listen to Sera's confessions anymore. I left the room. As soon as I stepped out, the impact of what she had said hit me. When I reached the end of the corridor, I could barely focus.I didn't realize that I had wandered so far. I hadn't escaped my past. It still haunted me, as clear as day. Everything around me blurred. It was like I was hearing double. The world tilted.I tried to steady myself, but it was no use, and everything went dark. When I opened my eyes again, the sterile white ceiling of the pack hospital greeted me. The scent of antiseptic increased my headache. I tried to sit up, but a hand on my shoulder stopped me."Don't push yourself," Alpha Konan's deep voice said beside me.I turned my head slightly and found him sitting on a chair by my bedside, his gaze fixed on me.I rolled my eyes. Why would he sit here? Doesn't he have anything or any pack documents to review?""You slumped, came his voice. The doctor said it was fatigue. You are going
MADELINE’S POV I was struggling to keep my eyes open, as I adjusted to the rhythm of the border patrol. I had just shifted my focus back to the task at hand, when I was told that the messenger was here for me. It’s about Sera, the messenger had said, offering no further explanation. I didn’t bother to ask. I fell into step behind him as we trudged the road that led to the pack mansion. “Why Sera? What had happened to her? What could she have done that required me to be pulled out from border patrol?” When we got to the park mansion, we stopped in front of the interrogation room. Why here? Rosaline stood waiting, her arms crossed, her gaze very serious. “Go in, she said with an edgy tone. Sera’s waiting for you.” I wanted to question her, but her expression silenced me faster than any command could have period I turned toward the door, my fingers turning the door knob. Pushing the door open, I was met with Sarah sitting on her chair in the centre of the room period
SERA’S POVI inhaled sharply, my breath shaky, but I forced myself to stand tall. My legs trembled, and the flood of fragmented memories threatened to overwhelm me. But I couldn't show weakness—not in front of the Godfather. The man who’d brought me here stood silently to the side while Godfather and his men watched me. Godfather's eyes were intense, like they could see right through me. I felt exposed, but I didn’t look away."You know why you’re here, Marilyn—or should I say Sera?" he asked, a dark grin playing at the corners of his mouth. The word revenge made my heart race. That was what they thought I was here for, but they were wrong. Before I could think of revenge, I needed to remember who I was.I straightened my back and met his gaze. "Yes. I’m here for revenge.""Good," Godfather said, his smile never leaving his face. "Then you’ll do as I say. No mistakes. I get what I want, and you get your revenge."I nodded, trying to mask the unease gnawing at my insides. I couldn’t af
ALPHA KONAN’S POVThe air was crisp and clean, tinged with moisture from the late afternoon rain. My paws sank slightly into the earth, the leaves crunching beneath me. The familiar feeling, which usually grounded me and connected me with nature, wasn’t working today.Nothing felt right.I pushed myself harder, forcing my legs to move faster. But no matter how much I tried to outrun it, she was there, in every step, in every breath I took. Her memories from breakfast clung to me, following me through the day. They wouldn’t leave.Elyan, my wolf, snarled in frustration. His thoughts tangled with mine, making it hard to focus. He was restless, hungry for something I couldn’t give. His growl of protest echoed in my mind, but I couldn’t let him take over again, not like he had during breakfast. I was glad she hadn’t noticed. She had been bold in the pack meeting, I’d give her that. Wearing that same dress—the one she wore when she first attended. Back then, I’d seen her as nothing more th
MADELINE’S POV I closed the door behind me. Alpha Konan didn’t say a word as he strode to his desk and sat down, not even sparing me a glance. His face was serious and stoic, like was ready to snap at any given second. “Was it because I spoke to Uncle Damien?” Well, I don’t care. They should do well to sort their issues between themselves and also do well not to involve me. I decided to settle on the seat across from him, and then his voice came, sharp and commanding. “I never gave you the permission.” My body stiffened as my body was already halfway to the chair. I straightened myself back up and obeyed. This was not the time to play defiance. Alpha Konan pulled a stack of documents towards him and began flipping through the page. As I stood opposite him, I studied him. He had become more tanner than before. More alluring and sexy. He had now developed a new behavior, running his index fingers on ever-present creases on his forehead. Each crease signifies the burden of his pos
MADELINE'S POVAfter the weird breakfast with Alpha Konan, I prepared for the pack meeting. Then a thought crept in. Since Alpha Konan had decided to introduce me as the diplomat in front of the pack elders, the same pack elders that prejudiced me, how about I make a statement?I stared at myself in the mirror, the emerald green open-back gown. The dress was as good as new. I made sure I packed my hair and my make-up in the same way, just like that time. As I stepped into the corridor, Alpha Konan was already on the way there. His eyes landed on my dress, and for a moment, I saw something shift in his expression. It was either amusement or admiration."The dress still looks good on you, just like that time. Fall into step beside me, he subtly commanded."I did and stepped beside him."Right now, the story's different. We are walking into the great hall as Alpha and diplomat. Quite fortunate and amusing," he remarked.I said nothing. Instead, I lifted my chin. The door to the great ha
GODFATHER'S POV"Madeline has returned to Oceanwolf pack," I informed Alpha Gritus."Madeline?" he asked, his interest piqued."Yes," I affirmed. Not only has she returned, but she's now placed in a key role. She's been appointed diplomat between Crescent Pack and Oceanwolf Pack. She's now part of an integral part of their pack politics."A slow smile crept across his face. This is very convenient, Alpha Gritus murmured. Alpha Konan allowed this?""Not willingly. Alpha Novare might have forced his hand, I replied. Madeline's new role is the perfect bridge between the two packs, and if we play this right, it could also be a perfect tool to turn Crescent Pack away from Alpha Konan and Oceanwolf Pack. Her position is very delicate. She's new to politics. A single mistake on her part could bring chaos. If we can push her into making such a mistake or make it appear as though she has, it will make our work easier.""Konan is a fool, isn't he? Keeping his weakness by his side. He allowed Ma
