MADELINE'S POV
I was led to my room by the servant lady assigned to me by Alpha Konan. I sobbed all along the way and I wondered how my life would take its course from henceforth. When we got to the room, there were other servants waiting to help get things done. I looked at them through my tear filled yes, hoping someone would notice me, but they all went about their normal business, their behavior similar to a robot, as if I wasn't there, as if I never existed. The new room was one thousand times better than the servant cubicle. It had everything I needed to make life comfortable. I was taken in for a hot bath with fresh scented flowers that had its own unique fragrance. My legs were shaved and my hair thoroughly washed and cared for. I was told to sit in front of the vanity mirror, the head servant lady telling me that she would be with me shortly. Seeing my reflection in the mirror, I saw noticeable changes. My once lean cheek bones were becoming chubby, my nose looked bigger and my breasts were tender and fuller. I rested my hands gently on my stomach, now round with new life. And to my surprise, I felt the baby's pulse. My make up was done, but it didn't hide the sadness in my eyes. I thought of Drey. What would he think when he finds out I'm pregnant? Guilt filled me, and I felt my life was slipping out of my hands, completely under alpha konan's control. I had never worn such a beautiful dress in my entire life. It was an emerald green open back gown that went well with the color of my eyes, my hair was packed in a messy updo with some of the curls cascading down my face, with a deep red lipstick that brought color to my small oval face. I couldn't help but admire myself in front of the mirror. I never knew I was this beautiful. I was so caught up in my own beauty until the presence of Alpha Konan was announced. A cool chill ran down my spine. Why was he here? I hadn't forgotten the cruel words he said to me earlier, and now he was back. My mind raced, trying to figure out why he would come see me here. "Wow!!! The ugly duckling has transformed to a swan. Can you all see that?" he said mockingly. The servants, heads bowed all replied with a positive nod. "Leave us," he ordered and they obeyed. "Dan, get me the herbal tonic," he added. Dan entered the room and handed him the tonic. "Drink," he ordered, holding out the cup to me. "This is good for the baby." I hesitated for a moment, remembering the poison he gave me before. My wolf urged me to be smart and drink it, so I did. The tonic was bitter, but I gurgled it quickly. Afterward, I handed the cup back to him, but he threw it on the ground, shattering it into pieces. The sound of the glass breaking was deafening. I flinched, staring at the sharp pieces scattered around me. Alpha Konan smiled with contempt. "If you haven't figured it out yet , this broken plate shows your worth, your reflection. You are nothing but filth," he sneered. "This is a clue for you to understand your place. And remember, be your best and stick to the arranged contract," his voice seething with hostility. I bit back the tears that threatened to rush from my eyes, but I was unable to control it. The tears came running like a river that over flooded its bank. He stepped closer, and wiped the tears roughly smudging my make up. He closed the gap between us and ran his finger all through the s-curve of my spine igniting a rather pleasurable feeling within me as I bit back my sob. I shriveled under his touch and he went further down until he touched the hem of my panties and gritted his teeth, trying to hold back himself. Even in my dreary state, I could feel warm liquid gathering around my thighs. I wanted to pull away, but I couldn't. My body betrayed me. Why would it do this to me at a time like this? A subtle knock on the door interrupted Alpha Konan since it was time for the pack meeting. He stopped and increased the space between us, the sexual tension still evident. "While at the pack meeting, deviate from answering any questions thrown at you. I will answer all of them on your behalf. Do not say a word until I signal you to do so. Remember your place." "Redo your make up and meet me outside the room in two minutes. I, Alpha Konan does not take delight when I am kept waiting." I scrambled to the mirror and touched my make up already destroyed by my tears. I met Alpha Konan outside the room, back rested on the wall and arms folded across his chest, the dim light in the hall way radiating his manly features. We walked down the hall way leading to the great hall and I followed closely behind him. He stopped abruptly in his tracks, making me bump into his rock sturdy back. "What are you doing behind me bitch? Play your role well. Mates are supposed to walk side by side with each other." I stepped beside him and attached my small palms to his muscled biceps confidently. We approached the great hall and the huge doors opened up to meet well influential elders of the pack sitting around the hall waiting for the Alpha's order to commence the meeting. Alpha Konan was greeted with a courtesy bow. Bemused, I darted my eyes across the room doing well to avoid eye contacts. Alpha Konan got to his seat and I took my seat beside him. Murmurs filled the air. Everyone whispered. "Who is the girl with our alpha". Alpha Konan cleared his voice and stood up. " "Before we begin, I want to introduce you to my mate and the mother of my child, the future alpha of this pack," he said, turning to me with a smile. The room went quiet. Everyone gasped in surprise, their eyes filled with skepticism. I felt nervous and small, unsure of how to handle the attention. This was a delicate position I had found myself in and escaping from it was far from the truth. Tension brewer and was high up in the air which made me cower in fear. Alpha Konan noticed and he took my hands in his own large hands and caressed it soothingly. In a way I regained confidence from his little rub action. "Why wasn't she introduced during the mate selection ceremony," one irate elder asked. "If she wasn't introduced then that means she's fake and the baby might not be yours." I could see Alpha Konan's expressions doing a shifting dance. It was a canvas of emotions, from clenched jaws to wrinkled brows and fiery red eyes. He squeezed the once caressed hands, almost crushing the bones underneath the skin. "This is a blatant disregard for pack laws regarding mates," the elder continued, his voice filled with judgement. Our tradition are not supposed to be scoffed at." The murmurs of agreement from the elders filled the room. Despite the arrogance from the elder, Alpha Konan kept mum. Alpha Konan smirked confidently and I knew from experience that Alpha Konan's signature smirk meant trouble and disaster. "Silence!!!! he thundered. Who gave you all the notion that I would be confined by outdated traditions. Guards!!! take this elder who has no control of his mouth and whip him twenty times. For challenging my authority as the alpha in a pack meeting, whip him another twenty. For disrespecting my mate and unborn child, he won't be remitted his pay for the month. Make sure he sees hell.",Alpha Konan pronounced, his voice sultry with authority and dominance. The guards dragged the elder out of the great hall in the most humiliating way and a tense silence enveloped the room. "This should sound as a note of warning to anyone who challenges my authority in any form," Alpha Konan retorted with a chilling calmness. I am willing to forgive you all for threatening to revolt against me. My choices are mine alone and no one challenges me and goes unscathed." With that, alpha Konan placed his hands on my lower back and guided me out of the great hall leaving Dan to continue and conclude the meeting.MADELINE'S POV His hands rested on my lower back as we walked to his quarters. I couldn't stop thinking about how he dealt with the elder who questioned the baby's paternity and my place as his mate. As we reached a quiet corner, his soft look changed. “Madeline, Alpha Konan's voice turned icy, his grip tightening on my arms. How did the elder learn you are a fake mate?" My lips parted in confusion, but I was determined to defend myself. His eyes bore into mine with hatred. "I don't know," I stammered. "Don't lie to me," he hissed, still holding onto my arm. My fear ignited anger. I may be a lowly servant, but I have dignity. Ask your people, Alpha. One of them must have slipped." “His expression darkened, a dangerous smile curving his lips. I was sure he was surprised at my talk back. "Remember your place, Madeline. One more mistake, and I will mark you as my real mate. Do you want that? A lifetime of hell with me? I moved steps away from him when he uttered the wor
MADELINE'S POV The sun had not even begun to rise when a loud knock echoed at the door. I jolted awake, disoriented and alarmed. The abrupt interruption of my sleep left me uneasy as I stood up to check who was at the door. Two warrior werewolves stood before me. “Miss Madeline, Alpha Konan summons you to the execution hall.” I swallowed hard, the dry sensation in my throat scratching painfully as I followed them. My mind raced in obvious fear. It wasn’t yet dawn, and the majority of the household was still asleep. I had no time to change into anything more suitable; I was still in my nightgown. Upon entering the execution hall, I froze at the sight of a familiar figure on the floor, covered in blotches of blood. Fear gripped me as I approached the body. When I recognized it was Drey, my eyes widened in terror and horror. “Alpha Konan!” I cried out, my voice shrill. “What did he do to deserve this torture? This inhumane treatment?” I knew that speaking out like this was stepping
PETRA'S POV The plan to kill Alpha Konan and Rosaline failed completely, and I still couldn't come to terms with the outcome. Alpha Konan and Rosaline were a threat to my Godfather, the man who rescued me from my near death experience. I had devoted my life to him ever since that night — ten years ago. Naturally every good thing came at a price, and the price was my life. It was one of those many nights when the moon cast its silvery gray glow over Moonshine City Pack. Everything shimmered, and in our little happy home, I still remembered the hearty laugh of my father, the pretty smile of my mother, and the cackles of my baby sister. It was one of the many memories I cherished, but also the ones that haunted me. I still wondered how I survived while watching my family perish before my eyes. The burning of our home, the terrified screams of my family while we were attacked, began my emotional trauma, leading me to my Godfather and turning me into a spy. It was Godfather who int
MADELINE'S POV. I woke up with a sore back and the day was already far spent. Events of the previous night came flooding to my forebrain, aggravating the already present pain in my brain enclosed within the case of bones it occupied. I remembered been escorted to my room by Alpha Konan's guards and I was repeatedly reminded that I was done for and destined to wallow in sorrow. For the first time in my life, I thought of my family and I wished upon them the same pains and agony I was going through. Sleep eluded me and I thought of the torture Alpha Konan subjected Drey to. I hopes he survives the punishment meted out to him and I cried myself to sleep. I noticed alpha Konan's shirt still draped on my body and I instinctively inhaled the familiar scent of musk and cedar. For some reasons, it gave me a sense of security coupled with absolute fear. A subtle knock was heard at the door and I huddled myself together and gave permission to whomever who was at the door to come in.
PETRA'S POV. I had just recovered from the punishment I received from Godfather a few days ago and it was time to begin executing the new plan. The only way to salvage the situation was to become close and undetachable from Madeline. I had put my plan in place. First, I was to go close to her and be her personal maid. Madeline looked very lonely and I was sure that she would most appreciate and agree to my suggestion to be her companion because no one wanted to associate with her. Two, understand her daily activities and find the perfect time to strike. To be honest, I felt pity for Madeline. She was the only servant who was nice to me. I just wished she weren't caught in this crossfire. I headed towards the lady's quarters with basket of fruit that I knew she loved eating. Her room door was slightly opened and I knocked. "Hey Madeline, thought you might enjoy some of your favorite fruits today," I said showing her the baskets of fruits I carried. "Hello Petra, it's been a while,
ALPHA KONAN'S POV I was momentarily entranced when I saw Madeline draped in the outfit— the black gown that accentuated her curves and enhanced the bump on her stomach. A sense of pride and awe swept over me and Elyan responded with a quiet , appreciative growl. Why was I feeling this way about her? Throughout the meeting, I noticed her shifting uncomfortably in her chair, holding a scrunched face as she rubbed her stomach and back. It was subtle, but I couldn't ignore the strain in her movements. It was time for the vote of thanks, I scanned the room, and she wasn't anywhere inside the room. Where could she gone to at a time like this? I could go through the remaining events of the night without her, but I didn't want to. A sense of unease pricked me, even before Dan entered the room and leaned close. "Alpha Konan," he whispered, his tone urgent. "Madeline has been kidnapped." "What?!" I roared, rising to my feet. You've got to be joking Dan. "What do you mean she has be
ALPHA KONAN'S POV I paced around my study as I waited for Rosaline's arrival. The sound of my shoe soles on the tiled floor were the only defined noise I could hear. Anger and worry simmered within me making my insides hot and I was forced to ask myself for the umpteenth time why I was feeling this way towards her. This feeling was new, very pristine. "It is because she's carrying your child. So it is a tangible reason for you to behave and feel this way." My subconscious answered. "Exactly!" And I couldn't agree more. Rosaline came into my study panting heavily from running. "What did you say happened to Madeline," she asked worry lines evident on her forehead. "The servant girl was kidnapped by Damien, my uncle." "Is Damien around?" she asked. "I have no idea," I replied. "He only made his presence known by kidnapping the servant girl and dropping a letter." "What did the content of the letter say?" Rosaline asked. "I don't care. I only need to save Madeline and
MADELINE'S POV The darkness crept in, swallowing the room whole. I saw the room closing in on me and felt suffocated. The shadow of a man danced on the wall with a glistening metal knife in hand, trudging towards me. "Please, please..... Don't hurt me. I did nothing wrong to you, I am not the one you seek," I begged. As he came closer, I saw the dangerous face and wicked smile of the man who held the metal knife. He lifted the glistening metal above his head aiming straight for my growing stomach. Sweats filled my face as I struggled to wake up, but the nightmare held me captive in its glued grasp. In reality, I squeezed my pillows and wriggled from side to side till I let out a blood curdling scream and jolted awake. When I woke up, Petra was beside me together with nurse Maude. Beads of sweat lined my forehead and cheeks and I felt sore in every part of my body. My throat was parched and my stomach churned badly. "How are you feeling?" Petra asked. I kept mum because I
MADELINE'S POVAlpha Konan had been gone for weeks. I hadn't seen him since the day I rudely told him off at the Pack hospital. Those words had come from a raw place inside me, and once they were out, there was no taking them back. In fact, I didn't want to take them back. I thought they would make me feel better, and make him distance himself away from him, but all it had done was leave a bitter taste in my mouth. And then, he was nowhere to be found. At first, I noticed his absence in small ways—empty study, his commanding voice during pack meetings. But as the days stretched into weeks, the emptiness became worse. My wolf was always restless, pacing inside me like a caged animal.I tried to ignore it, to shove the ache down and focus on my daily life and life as a diplomat, but it didn't work.I couldn't stop thinking about him. One day, curiosity got the better part of me and I asked Rosaline about him. I tried to sound normal, though I doubt I pulled it off."He's out of the pack
MADELINE'S POVThe air in the pack hospital felt unnaturally still. Since I woke up, Alpha Konan hadn't left my side. At first, I thought nothing of his presence, but as time went on, it became overwhelming.Every time I opened my eyes, he was there, watching as if I might disappear if he blinked. The sight of him sleeping in that uncomfortable chair, head tilted awkwardly, warmed my heart and displeased me at the same time. I needed to make him leave."Alpha Konan," I called softly. His head shot up immediately, scanning my face."You are awake," he said in a groggy voice. "Do you need anything? Water? Or should I call the pack doctor?" He asked intermittently."I need nothing," I replied. "I am fine, better actually. You don't need to be by my bedside all the time."He frowned."I am not leaving, Madeline, until I am sure you are fully rested."His words sent shudders of unease through me. The last thing I wanted was to be a burden to Alpha Konan."I will be very fine on my own. Yo
MADELINE'S POVI couldn't listen to Sera's confessions anymore. I left the room. As soon as I stepped out, the impact of what she had said hit me. When I reached the end of the corridor, I could barely focus.I didn't realize that I had wandered so far. I hadn't escaped my past. It still haunted me, as clear as day. Everything around me blurred. It was like I was hearing double. The world tilted.I tried to steady myself, but it was no use, and everything went dark. When I opened my eyes again, the sterile white ceiling of the pack hospital greeted me. The scent of antiseptic increased my headache. I tried to sit up, but a hand on my shoulder stopped me."Don't push yourself," Alpha Konan's deep voice said beside me.I turned my head slightly and found him sitting on a chair by my bedside, his gaze fixed on me.I rolled my eyes. Why would he sit here? Doesn't he have anything or any pack documents to review?""You slumped, came his voice. The doctor said it was fatigue. You are going
MADELINE’S POV I was struggling to keep my eyes open, as I adjusted to the rhythm of the border patrol. I had just shifted my focus back to the task at hand, when I was told that the messenger was here for me. It’s about Sera, the messenger had said, offering no further explanation. I didn’t bother to ask. I fell into step behind him as we trudged the road that led to the pack mansion. “Why Sera? What had happened to her? What could she have done that required me to be pulled out from border patrol?” When we got to the park mansion, we stopped in front of the interrogation room. Why here? Rosaline stood waiting, her arms crossed, her gaze very serious. “Go in, she said with an edgy tone. Sera’s waiting for you.” I wanted to question her, but her expression silenced me faster than any command could have period I turned toward the door, my fingers turning the door knob. Pushing the door open, I was met with Sarah sitting on her chair in the centre of the room period
SERA’S POVI inhaled sharply, my breath shaky, but I forced myself to stand tall. My legs trembled, and the flood of fragmented memories threatened to overwhelm me. But I couldn't show weakness—not in front of the Godfather. The man who’d brought me here stood silently to the side while Godfather and his men watched me. Godfather's eyes were intense, like they could see right through me. I felt exposed, but I didn’t look away."You know why you’re here, Marilyn—or should I say Sera?" he asked, a dark grin playing at the corners of his mouth. The word revenge made my heart race. That was what they thought I was here for, but they were wrong. Before I could think of revenge, I needed to remember who I was.I straightened my back and met his gaze. "Yes. I’m here for revenge.""Good," Godfather said, his smile never leaving his face. "Then you’ll do as I say. No mistakes. I get what I want, and you get your revenge."I nodded, trying to mask the unease gnawing at my insides. I couldn’t af
ALPHA KONAN’S POVThe air was crisp and clean, tinged with moisture from the late afternoon rain. My paws sank slightly into the earth, the leaves crunching beneath me. The familiar feeling, which usually grounded me and connected me with nature, wasn’t working today.Nothing felt right.I pushed myself harder, forcing my legs to move faster. But no matter how much I tried to outrun it, she was there, in every step, in every breath I took. Her memories from breakfast clung to me, following me through the day. They wouldn’t leave.Elyan, my wolf, snarled in frustration. His thoughts tangled with mine, making it hard to focus. He was restless, hungry for something I couldn’t give. His growl of protest echoed in my mind, but I couldn’t let him take over again, not like he had during breakfast. I was glad she hadn’t noticed. She had been bold in the pack meeting, I’d give her that. Wearing that same dress—the one she wore when she first attended. Back then, I’d seen her as nothing more th
MADELINE’S POV I closed the door behind me. Alpha Konan didn’t say a word as he strode to his desk and sat down, not even sparing me a glance. His face was serious and stoic, like was ready to snap at any given second. “Was it because I spoke to Uncle Damien?” Well, I don’t care. They should do well to sort their issues between themselves and also do well not to involve me. I decided to settle on the seat across from him, and then his voice came, sharp and commanding. “I never gave you the permission.” My body stiffened as my body was already halfway to the chair. I straightened myself back up and obeyed. This was not the time to play defiance. Alpha Konan pulled a stack of documents towards him and began flipping through the page. As I stood opposite him, I studied him. He had become more tanner than before. More alluring and sexy. He had now developed a new behavior, running his index fingers on ever-present creases on his forehead. Each crease signifies the burden of his pos
MADELINE'S POVAfter the weird breakfast with Alpha Konan, I prepared for the pack meeting. Then a thought crept in. Since Alpha Konan had decided to introduce me as the diplomat in front of the pack elders, the same pack elders that prejudiced me, how about I make a statement?I stared at myself in the mirror, the emerald green open-back gown. The dress was as good as new. I made sure I packed my hair and my make-up in the same way, just like that time. As I stepped into the corridor, Alpha Konan was already on the way there. His eyes landed on my dress, and for a moment, I saw something shift in his expression. It was either amusement or admiration."The dress still looks good on you, just like that time. Fall into step beside me, he subtly commanded."I did and stepped beside him."Right now, the story's different. We are walking into the great hall as Alpha and diplomat. Quite fortunate and amusing," he remarked.I said nothing. Instead, I lifted my chin. The door to the great ha
GODFATHER'S POV"Madeline has returned to Oceanwolf pack," I informed Alpha Gritus."Madeline?" he asked, his interest piqued."Yes," I affirmed. Not only has she returned, but she's now placed in a key role. She's been appointed diplomat between Crescent Pack and Oceanwolf Pack. She's now part of an integral part of their pack politics."A slow smile crept across his face. This is very convenient, Alpha Gritus murmured. Alpha Konan allowed this?""Not willingly. Alpha Novare might have forced his hand, I replied. Madeline's new role is the perfect bridge between the two packs, and if we play this right, it could also be a perfect tool to turn Crescent Pack away from Alpha Konan and Oceanwolf Pack. Her position is very delicate. She's new to politics. A single mistake on her part could bring chaos. If we can push her into making such a mistake or make it appear as though she has, it will make our work easier.""Konan is a fool, isn't he? Keeping his weakness by his side. He allowed Ma
