CHAPTER 8

Alonso’s POV

My patience is running dangerously thin. I have endured enough of this insufferable evening. The crowd is suffocating, the girls are suffocating, the smell of desperation is everywhere in the air. My beast is agitating already and if I don't take care it would start controlling me. I am frustrated. My eyes scan the ground hall frantically.

I am practically searching for a new hiding spot. Anywhere dark, anywhere quiet, anywhere that is far away from the relentless voices and the wandering eyes of the hungry girls around here. I move swiftly but carefully in the crowd. I try to avoid any girl coming close to me. I can still feel the eyes of the other girl that I had shunned boring into me like she is going to kill me at any moment.

Then suddenly, something- no, someone- collides into me with a thud like they are not looking at where they are going. I make a low growl, distinctively my fangs came out too. Then I look down to see a young woman almost crumbling at my feet

Her foul scent hit me like a blow in my face and I am almost gagging

She reeks of heat- uncontrolled heat. She is a female wolf in her season and her smell is overwhelming. It is clinging unto her like a bad body odour. My beast is growing in disgust

“Appalling,” I mutter to myself. “This is one of the female wolves that is making the whole place smell. She cannot control her instincts and she is stinking shamelessly everywhere. Why did she even bother showing up to this kind of event if she cannot keep her wolf in check?”

I am disgusted, so I push her away from me slightly and I watch as she falls to the ground in a sitting position. I have had enough disgust for the night. I turn to leave her where she had fallen from my slight push. I did not want anything to do with her. She is a loose wolf, and that is definitely what I don't want to associate myself with. There was no way that that kind of wolf could be my mate. But then as I am leaving, her soft voice stop me

“Help me…” she is murmuring weakly. Her voice is tired and desperate. She sounds scared even though her voice is just a whisper. “Please… help… me…”

Before I can react, I see her fall further to the ground with a thud. Her body looks limp as she collapse to the ground

I gasp as I curse underneath my breath, but at the same time I am glad that no one is looking at us because I would have hated the attention. I crouch down to her level to examine her. It was then that I noticed that she is not only in heat- from the way her skin is sticky, the way she is shaking and from how shallow her breathing is, I know something else is wrong with her. I take another sniff and immediately, I know that she is drugged

“Damn it!” I am cursing underneath my breath again. “Who has done this wicked thing?”

I rise immediately, my eyes searching  for Beta Leo. Then I see him. He is at the bar- not too close by, chatting with a group of ladies who are laughing so hard at his jokes. Typical Leo

“Leo!” I let my beast connect to his because I don't want to draw any attention.

He looks up instantly, his expression shifting from a funny face to a serious one. His ears are standing and I can feel his hair crackling too- he is suddenly alert. His sharp eyes lands on the unconscious girl in front of me and immediately he stylishly excuses himself from the pack of ladies and in one second he is by my side

“What happened?” he gives me a suspicious but urgent look as he approaches

“Don't look at me that way!” I reply sharply. “I think one of these bastards around drugged her because she is on her heatand she can't control it.”

Leo's eyes fly wide open and he wants to say something, but I am already lifting the girl up in my arms. “We need to get out of here immediately,” my voice is already sounding urgent

Leo nods, and we begin to carry the girl outside. Once outside, we are headed towards the car when a loud female voice calls me from behind

“King Alonso!”

I hear the girl, but I don't want to reply. I am sure that it is most definitely one of the hungry girls in the hall trying so hard to get my attention

“King Alonso!” She is relentless and I decide to turn around to see who it is

That is when I see her- the last girl that I had shunned in the hall- Leah. The look on her face was not friendly like earlier. Gone is the wide excited smile. Now she looks angry and frustrated as she sees me carrying the girl in my arms

“Of all people, why her?” She demands in a voice that shakes with anger. “Why are you choosing her, King Alonso? Why her and not me?”

When I see she is fooling around, I ignore her and continue working towards my car. I am already annoyed at her interruption

“I am not going to keep quiet!” Leah is persistent and she walks furiously behind me. “Do you even know who she is? That is Alora! She is the worthless omega in our pack! She doesn't even have a wolf! Why are you choosing her over me? She can't even help you! I am the white wolf,” she is suddenly in front of me and she is blocking my path

The part when she says she is the white wolf does not faze me. I know she is lying without shame. If she is the white wolf, I would have known by now

“Move!” I am almost screaming at her, but she is not moving. Instead she continues chattering

“I am better than her! You should not waste your time on her!” she keep talking without ceasing

“Enough!” my beast takes control and roared at her. My fangs are bared and my claws almost cut the girl in my arms open, but I control it.

Leah flinches at my reaction and she takes a few steps backward.

“Get out of my way, Leah!” I am saying with a lower tone, but it is sounding dangerous

Leo decides to intervene, so he steps forward cautiously with a tense expression. “King Alonso,” he is saying quietly so as not to anger me the more. “Leah is the daughter of our host- the Alpha of the Midnight pack. Don't you think you should show some resp…”

“I don't care if she is the moon goddess herself!” I interrupt with red eyes. “She needs to get out of my way so that this girl in my hands… Alora,” I pause briefly when I realise that I now know her name, “Gets help,” I continue anyway

With one hard stare from me to Leah, she storms out of my front and I enter the car with Beta Leo by me. “Take us to the nearest guest house…” I order my driver and he starts driving immediately

“Wait… what!?” Beta Leo is shocked and alarmed when he hears my instructions to the driver. “We can't just take her away and disappear! People will talk! Look,” he points outside the window. “They are already whispering among themselves…”

“She is safe with me… those people talking are the same people that drugged her. How can we trust them?” I am speaking calmer now

Soon we are at the guest house and I am checking in with Alora in my arms and Beta Leo behind, even though the receptionist is staring at us weirdly.  I can tell a lot of crazy thoughts are going on in her head. She is probably thinking that me and Beta Leo drugged Alora and we are trying to take advantage of her and I can see that she is trying to make security checks

We are heading towards the staircase when Leo speaks again. “Are you sure about this?”

“I am,” I reply without looking at him. He keeps asking a lot of other questions but I ignore him, focusing instead on the girl in my arms. She is stirring slightly now, with a soft moan escaping her lips as I climb the stairs to the room

“Alora…” I murmur, testing the name Leah had thrown out earlier at me. The name suits her somehow. I liked the name and the face it is attached to although I cannot explain why

Her head is dropping loosely on my chest and I cannot help but think if Beta Leo is right- of this is a bad decision, because in front of me, security men are coming to ask me questions
