Zara's POV
I jumped out of the moving taxi, the moment it was in front of the guest house.
I fell to the ground as a result, sustaining some bruises. I didn't care about my health, as I stood up from the ground, and ran into the guesthouse.
By the time I got there, Hailey was already waiting patiently for me. She had tears running down her eyes.
"Zara, they…" she pointed in a particular direction, without saying anything meaningful.
I didn't even bother to ask her what happened, as I followed her lead into a room.
My breathing was so heavy because I had been running all through.
"Are you okay?" She asked me, as she led me into the room.
It was weird that her tone had suddenly changed. Initially, she seemed to be distressed, but now she was calm all of a sudden.
"Yes, you called me here because you were in trouble. What the heck is going on Hailey!" I yelled still trying to catch my breath, and I choked on my saliva.
"Here have some juice" She offered me a glass of juice, on the side stool.
I gulped the whole glass down, without even asking any questions.
"Hailey, are you really in trouble?" I asked her.
"No, but you are" She lifted an eyebrow, and pushed me to the bed.
She ran out of the room and locked me inside.
"Hailey, open this door" I banged harshly on the door.
"Don't worry, the door will be open" I could hear her laugh from outside.
I dug my hands into my hair, scratching it roughly. I don't know how I could be so stupid to run to this place, immediately she called me.
Hailey had never liked me, and I am sure this was one of her evil plans, to make sure I won't be present at my wedding tomorrow.
I smacked my palm on my forehead, as I continued to shake the handle of the door checking if it would open, but all my efforts were useless.
I began to feel dizzy, and I fell on the bed as a result. I looked at the glass I drank from. I could see some particles of powder, just at the bottom of it.
She must have mixed something in my drink. I was practically fighting to stay awake.
I heard the door open, and I looked in the direction to see who it was.
"Hailey" I whispered to get a response.
But, no one responded. And when I struggled to look closely, I could see a masculine figure approach me.
I couldn't see his face properly, but I thought that it was a man.
He came close to me on the bed.
"Don't come close to me" I kicked my legs in the air trying to fight back.
But, he spread my legs wide apart and pinned my hands to the bed.
I felt his hot breath on my neck before he ran his hands on me.
"Please, let me go" I began to cry my eyes out.
The bed was shaking, and so were my legs. Yet, my whole body felt numb.
I lay there like a log of wood, unable to move.
I shut my eyes tightly, while I let him use me as he pleased. I was too weak to even fight back, even if I wanted to.
It felt like it was going on forever, and when he came to a stop.
I felt some kind of relief because it was over. My body began to give up, and I let darkness consume me entirely.
I woke up the next morning, with my legs feeling heavy. I could barely even get up from the bed.
I looked underneath the sheet, to discover that I was soaked in my blood.
It hurt me, more than anything in this world. How could Hailey do this to me?
How could I be so foolish to fall into her trap like that? I curled myself up in the bed and cried my eyes out.
My eyes suddenly popped open, when I remembered that it was my wedding day.
F*ck! How could I have forgotten about it? And this just had to happen the night before my wedding. This is so unfair.
I quickly got out of bed, with all the pain I was feeling, and made my way back home.
"Where have you been?" My stepmom asked me, and I froze in one position.
"Answer me! Are you daft?" She scolded me.
This wasn't the first time she was mad at me. Most times, she would get furious for the littlest things.
Ever since my dad married her, he too had become a different person.
She held a cane in her hand and lashed me on my back with it when I had been silent for too long.
"I'm sorry" I cried out, and she pushed me into the house, to get ready for my wedding.
I had no make-up artists and no wedding planner. I just had to make do with whatever I could find.
This wasn't because my father was poor, but because my stepmom didn't let him spend much on my wedding.
But, I didn't mind. I was getting married to the man I love the most, and he will accept me no matter what.
"You came back quickly?" Hailey barged into my room, just when I was almost done with my makeup.
"You are evil!" I raised my voice at her, raising my wedding gown.
"And you are just figuring that out?" She raised an eyebrow at me.
"You shouldn't have done this to me" A tear escaped from my eyes.
"Shh! Don't cry yet. Save your tears for your wedding, because I am going to do something so huge. That your wedding will not even take place" she laughed.
"What do you plan to do?" I asked her, and she scoffed.
"If I tell you now, then my surprise will be ruined. Just wait and watch" she said her words so slowly, that it scared me.
Zara's POVMy dad held my hand as he walked me down the aisle. He must have noticed the way my hands were shaking because he tightened his grip around my hand.He looked at me and had a small smile on his face.To say that I was scared is an understatement.I was terrified and found it difficult to breathe.I looked in Hailey's direction, and that only made my heart beat faster. My dad handed me over to Louis, with a smile on his face.Louis looked so happy to see me.I looked at him, with tears in my eyes. I had begun to cry under the veil, but nobody noticed it.I loved this man so much, and I have waited so long for this day to come. There is no telling what Hailey would do, just to ruin my wedding."Do you Zara Sabrina take Louis Hernald to be your lawfully wedded husband? In wealth, and poverty. In sickness and in health, till death do you part?" The priest asked me, and I looked in Hailey's direction with trembling hands. She smiled wickedly at me and I dropped my flowers."Yes,
Zara's POVIt's been over a month now since my stepsister got married to Louis.Yet, I still have nightmares about it every day. I looked at Louis's picture on my phone, as I kissed it continually."And what are you still doing here? You haven't washed my clothes yet" My stepmom barged into my room, as she met me sobbing."Wipe those crocodile tears, and wash my clothes by hand. I don't want to see any stains on them, '' she instructed me.I stared at her with tears in my eyes, can she ever be merciful? There were so many maids working in this house, yet she refused to give her clothes to any of them.I got up from the bed and felt the urge to throw up. I ran towards the bathroom, as I placed my palm on my chest.I flushed everything down the toilet.I came out of the bathroom, with one hand on my waist, and the other massaging my forehead."What is wrong with you?" My stepmom asked."I don't know, '' I replied nonchalantly."You know what? I don't even care" She was about to walk out
Zara's POVBy the time I woke up, I was in the middle of nowhere. I was surrounded by nothing, but trees and thick bushes.I guess they must have brought me to the forest. They had my hands tied with a rope, but my legs were free. They slowly approached me with a knife in their hand"Please, spare my life" I went on my knees and pleaded with them."And why should we do that? We have already been paid in full to end your life" One of them looked at me and laughed."I know, please spare me. I promise you that I will go far away from here, my stepmom will never find out you spared me. Please, I beg of you" I began to shed tears. My hands were sweating, and my heart was racing against itself. They looked at each other before they laughed."Fine, we will let you go. But, on one condition. You'll let us have our way with you. You look so pretty" one of them said, as came close to me.He rubbed his palm against my face, seductively and I spat on him."Are you crazy? Didn't my stepmom tell yo
Zara's POVI stood outside the altar, practicing how to breathe, with the flowers in my hands. I still can't believe that I was getting married to a man I met just two days ago. I didn't care if I was doing the right thing or not.I snapped out of my thoughts, when the altar doors were opening, and my eyes popped open at the number of guests that were present.I have never seen so many people gathered in one place before.I swallowed hard and managed to walk down the aisle all by myself. I had no one to even stand as my family member, and nothing hurt more than that. There were many cameras flashing lights everywhere, and if not for the veil that covered my face. I probably would have run away.Mr Fred took me by the hand, as we both exchanged our vows, and he slipped the ring in my finger. The fact that I had a smooth wedding, with no stepsister here to ruin it, was an achievement on its own.The wedding went on faster than I thought, as he took me by the hands, and walked me to the
Fred's POVI had Zara pinned to the wall of my open room when Bella walked into the both of us in such an awkward position. She paused to look at the both of us, she was probably in disbelief. And was using that moment to assimilate the shock."Really?" She cleared her throat, as she walked into my room.I let go of Zara, as I focused my attention on Bella.I was so surprised to see her."When did you get back?" I asked her, as she looked at Zara, as though she was about to chop Zara's head off."I got back yesterday. I even attended your wedding. But, I guess you were too busy with your new wife. You didn't have time to notice me." She raised an eyebrow, as she struggled to keep her gaze on me.She couldn't stop staring at Zara. And I only wondered the kind of thoughts that ran through Bella's head."Don't say that. You know how hectic yesterday was for me. The media kept trying to interview me, and avoiding them was a chore on its own" I explained to her."Who is she?" Zara asked, l
Zara's POV"Zara" It was so late at night when I heard Fred calling my name. What is it now? Why can't I breathe in this house? Why do they have to suffocate me like this?I got up from the bed, with sleepy eyes, and I staggered towards my door.I managed to open it, and my eyes popped open when I saw Fred holding Bella's hand.I was so confused, I staggered backwards in disbelief."Why the hell did you slap her?" He pointed at Bella's red cheeks."Slap her?" I exclaimed, wondering how Bella's cheeks suddenly turned red when they looked fine earlier today."I told you she is going to deny it. Let's just go" She held his hand and tried to drag him back.I couldn't understand the drama that was happening in front of me."Wait Bella" he stopped her, dragging her back, and forcing her to stay in one place."Apologize to her" he instructed me, speaking to me as though I am a child."No, I won't. Because I didn't do anything to her" I stood my ground.I have had so much maltreatment from my
Zara's POVI sat down on the bed, reading a magazine. So that, I wouldn't be stuck thinking about what happened earlier in the morning."Can I come in?" Fred asked me, with my door half open."It's your house" I raised both of my eyebrows."Okay," he whispered, opening the door fully, and letting himself in."Would you like this dress?" He asked some, handing me a thick leather bag.I lowered my eyebrows in confusion. I didn't remember asking for a dress, so why did he have to buy me one?"No" I replied, turning my attention back to my magazine."But, you haven't even seen it yet. You have to at least take it out of the bag, and look at it, to know whether you like it or not '' he told me, and I frowned."As long, as you bought it. I already know that I don't like it "I told him, turning to the next page of my magazine."Are you saying I have bad taste?" He lifted an eyebrow."No," I responded."Anyways, I don't want you to mistake this as a kind gesture. I will be having a party late
Fred's POVI had just opened the door of my room when my eyes met my mum. She always had the worst timing."What are you doing here, with her?" She scolded me."Mum, you are here?" I was shocked to see where."Yes, I am. You have to stop acting surprised each time you see me in this house. I also live here, and I can decide to show up whenever I want to" she told me, and I nodded."Now, answer my question. What are you doing here with her? When your wife is downstairs" she asked me again."She…well" I stammered, and my mum narrowed her gaze. She was the only woman capable of making me stammer, and act like a weakling."How many times have I asked you to stay away from this girl? She is not good for you. Nothing good is ever going to come out of your relationship with her '' my mum pulled my ear, as she dragged me away from the room. She locked the door from the outside, with Bella inside."What the heck? Fred, let me out of this place" Bella screamed from the inside."Shut up! Fred is
Fred was laughing when his phone rang, but the moment he answered, his face turned serious."Fred, this is Detective James. I've got some news. We have Hailey, her mother, and Bella. They're all in custody."Fred's eyes grew wide with shock. "What? How in the world did you guys find them?"The detective chuckled. "Let's just say we had some good leads. They're in the process of being booked now."A wave of relief washed over Fred. "Thank God. Thank you, Detective.""We're not done yet, Fred. We still need to question them and get to the bottom of this. But for now, you can rest easy knowing they're off the streets."Fred nodded, even though the detective couldn't see him. "I appreciate it. Please keep me updated."As he hung up, Fred turned to Zara and Clara. "It's all over. Hailey, her mother, and Bella are behind bars."Tears brimmed over in Zara's eyes. "Oh, thank God. Our kids are safe."Clara smiled, her face carved with relief. "This is the best news we could have asked for."Fr
The booms of the police sirens in the warehouse were getting closer now. Clara was holding her daughter-in-law Zara's hand very tightly to soothe her."Help is here, Zara, just hang in there." These words repeated for a while produced from the lips of Clara, firm but quaking with emotion.Zara's eyes fluttered closed, her face going white and sweaty. Clara missed one heartbeat, not even daring to go to the worst place in her mind. But then Zara's eyes flickered open again, and she fixed them onto Clara. "Clara. Lo siento. I didn't mean to put you in danger."Clara was crying now, blubbering, the tears cascading down her face. "Don't say that, Zara. You're going to be fine. You're going to pull through."The medics burst past Clara, utterly focused on Zara. Clara stood, staring, while they dropped down to her level and pinned the wound on Zara's neck, then pulled her up onto the gurney. She gripped Zara's hand tightly in her own, behind her back in the ambulance, praying that with ever
"I have to go in there, Clara, for I have to find out what's happening to my girl. The silence—it just kills me."Clara's face set in a stubborn cast. "No, Zara, I cannot let you in there on your own; it's dangerous."Zara was indecisive. Her mind knew Clara was right, yet on the other hand, she simply could not do this. "Clara, please, I gotta do this. I'll be okay."Clara just shook her head. "But I'm not going to let you go in there alone. What if Bella is dangerous? What if she unmans you?"Zara let out a melodramatic sigh at that one, knowing against all her credibilities that Clara wouldn't."Okay. But you have got to promise me one thing. You have to stay way back and let me handle it. I don't want you under attack because of me."Clara's expression had softened, but her voice did not relent. "I'll stay behind, but just because you promise me one thing- you're going to be careful, and if things get out of hand, you get out of there, period."Zara nodded. Clara, she knew was o
Reaching the bottom step and hearing the 'click' of the sound of the hardwood floor beneath her boots, she entered the living room, where Clara was already seated sipping at a cup of coffee."Hey girl, you look fabulous," she told Zara, placing her cup on the table.Another added booster of her confidence made her smile. "Thanks, Clara, I am feeling rather good today."Clara nodded solemnly. "Yes, we need to find a way to talk about Bella. I was just trying to clear my thoughts and jot down in writing some thoughts on how we would start in dealing with the whole issue."Zara nodded as she got seated on a small stone beside Clara. "I am all ears. Let's hear it all."There she was, deep in conversation, when through the door in came Fred-torn, untidy in his appearance. "Hey guys, sorry to interrupt, but I was thinking of something since you're going out, would you like me to make some lunch for when you get back?"So, forthwith, a smile flitted from Zara, quite touched at Fred's caring
"Me neither. It's like she just snapped or something."Clara held her eyes, concern etched on her face. "Do you think Fred's plan for helping her is a good idea?"Zara hesitated, having known otherwise what to respond to. A part of her wanted to believe that Bella could be salvaged, that she wasn't beyond redemption. Another part of her was just plain terrified, scared of what Bella might do next."I don't know, Clara," Zara said finally. "I want to believe that Bella can change, that she's not beyond help. But at the same time, I'm scared. I don't know what she's capable of."Clara nodded with understanding. "I think so too. But do we not have to try, Zara? For Fred's sake, if nothing else."Zara nodded, her emotions oozing with an air of resolution. "You are right. We have to try."Just then, Fred came downstairs. His eyes were tired, but there was a determined look in them. "Guys, I've been thinking. I know how we can reach Bella."Zara and Clara gave each other a hopeful look. "Wh
As Fred was lost in the thought that it might be possible for Bella to change, Zara grew tense in his hand. "Hey, what's wrong?" he asked softly and gently full of concern.Fred was unsure of what to say to Zara about his plan; he just felt undecided. But something in her soft voice just made everything all right. "I have been thinking," he began, his voice barely above the whisper. "I probably could help Bella. I probably could get her the help she needs."Zara's face contorted in incredulity. "Fred, we have talked about this. Bella's beyond help. Toxic, she will bring you down with her."Fred nodded, realizing Zara's concern was founded. But he couldn't help that feeling inside him, telling him he needed at least to try. "I know, but what if I can reach her? What if I could help change her?"Zara heaved a deep sigh and searched his face for an answer. "You really would risk everything, wouldn't you, for her?"Fred nodded, his heart heavy with the weight of his decision. "I have to t
Fred trudged up the walkway, his feet heavy with the weight of his conversation with the detective. He had been hoping to find some way to help Bella, but now he wasn't so sure. As he reached the front door, it swung open and Zara stood before him, a look of concern etched on her face."Hey," she said standing aside to let him in. "How did it go?"Fred sighed, rubbing his temples. He didn't know how to summarize the complicated emotions swirling inside him.A seemingly sympathetic frown was creasing Zara's face. "That bad, huh?"Fred nodded, and he felt an immense weight being lifted, just being near Zara made things better.Zara softly closed the door as he entered inside, then leaned back against it, crossing her arms. "So, did you get to speak to her?" she asked softly.Fred's eyes dropped, his mind flashing back to the conversation with Bella. He hadn't expected her to be so. unrepentant. So uncaring."Yeah," he said at last, voice barely above a whisper. "She was vile like always
Fred asked the detective, "Is there a way to protect her? I don't want anything to happen to her."Detective Mathew's eyes became wide with shock. "Protect her? Mr. Fred, she's the one who has been causing harm to others. Why would you want to protect her?"Fred's expression turned grave. "She's like a sister to me," he said. "I am responsible for her, and I don't want anything to happen to her."The surprise on the detective's face slowly gave way to comprehension. "I see," he said. "Well, Mr. Fred, I can offer her protection while she's in custody, but once she's released. I'm not sure what we can do."Fred nodded, his eyes full of concern. "I understand. Just do what you can, please."The detective nodded. He looked so contemplative. "I'll see what we can do, Mr. Fred. But I have to ask, are you sure you want to do this? She's caused a lot of harm to people you care about."Fred's jaw clamped down tightly, his eyes flashing with determination. "Positive," he said. "She's like a sis
Fred's eyes never left Bella's face and a mixture of shock and sadness was written all over his face. "Everyone, please leave us alone for a minute," he said in a whispered tone. The detective had looked indecisive but nodded, gesturing to his officers to leave the room. "We'll be right outside, Mr. Fred," he said.As the door shut behind them, Fred turned back to Bella. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice trembling. "How can you say that?"Bella laughed coldly and mirthlessly. "You don't get it, do you?" she spat. "You never have. You've always been so blind, so oblivious to everything around you."He took a step closer, his hands extending toward her. "Bella, please. just tell me what's wrong. What have I done to hurt you so?"Bella's eyes suddenly flashed with anger, and she rose to her feet, her body etched with tension. "You want to know what you have done?" she repeated. "You want to know the worst thing you've ever done to me?"Fred nodded, his heart beating in his chest in
