It was pitch dark. Everything was silent...

Is it a dream? 

Uh! Someone's calling me? 

''Xue er!... Xue er! you promised me that you wouldn't leave!''

Xue er? who is that? why is it still dark? .......Wait...another voice?

''Yi Sha! You even dared to ignore my calls! Come back! ''

Yi Sha? What the hell! 

''Miss Parker? She's coming around! She's waking up!'', ''Miss Parker! can you hear me? Doctor Wei! take a look!''

''Laia Parker? Laia? ....'', '' Alice, what happened here?''

''Just now she was saying some names and mumbling to herself. She might be hallucinating, we must wake her up before it gets serious.''

''It's been only 4 months and she came around even earlier than we expected, but we can't wake her abruptly, prepare some antipsychotics.'' ''Give me the Haloperidol''

Haloperidol? Good Heavens!

''There! She’s saying something!'' ''Miss Parker? Can you hear me?''

''Yes...Please don't shout... My ears hurt....''

''Doctor! There she...''

''Shshhhhh'' ''Silent''

Ugh! Two thin blades of blinding light cut through my eyes once I opened them. There was a heavy throbbing at the back of my head. My body seemed like it was weighed down by a 5-ton iron sphere.

''Wait Miss Parker, let me help you up''

I felt being inclined slowly upwards with the hospital bed. The tinnitus worsened as my head elevated higher. The light caused unbearable pain in my eyes. I managed to open them somehow. My vision was blurry. Slowly everything came into focus.

''Senior?.... Why am I here?''

Standing opposite me was my college senior who was a prodigy in psychology, and well known in college for his academic feats. The notable thing is that he left China a few years ago and was never returning back due to some unknown personal reasons. So what does his presence imply?

‘’Well, Laia, listen to me carefully. Don’t take things too seriously as you’ve just woken up. Before explaining things, let me ask you. What do you remember the last?’’

‘’My last memory…..’’, my head was hurting as if a thousand hammers were pounding onto my head all at once. I grabbed my head in pain.

‘’Slowly. Don’t force yourself. You can stop if you find it hard’’

‘’No… I think I can…., Yes, I remember things but they are very vague. I remember that my friends were forcing me to complete 5 shots of alcohol. We were celebrating the last day of our 3rd year in university. That was my first time drinking alcohol. I think I was too drunk and became unconscious…….’’

Senior Wei was watching me keenly, like a scientist observing a new species. He was clearly expecting me to say more, but I had nothing.

‘’…..that’s all…., but why would I end up in a coma for getting drunk?’’

‘’That’s a nice question. But before that, we have things to discuss.’’

‘’Senior, you keep ignoring my questions. What exactly happened? I’m a psychology student, and you know that I’d definitely understand!’’, the throbbing got even worse but I didn’t react- fearing that he might not explain.

‘’Well………..Laia, you are going through retrograde amnesia’’

‘’…………..’’

 ‘’Laia?....’’

‘’I’m fine’’.

I’m not! Retrograde amnesia means I lost my memories that happened before the onset of amnesia. What memories did I lose?.... Why did this happen?.... Maybe..

‘’Senior Wei, did I have a head injury?’’

‘’Yes, but please stop asking further questions. You clearly know that forcefully trying to redeem the memories or trying to spark up your memory with help of external sources in such a mental state can be very dangerous’’

Huh! Do you know how it feels? You can speak all you want because you don’t at all know how it exactly feels. I’ve never felt so pissed off in my entire life!

‘’Yes, senior Wei. I understand’’.

‘’Alice..’’

The cute intern hurried to his side.

‘’Yes Dr Wei’’

Dr. Wei…….?

Senior Wei is working as a licensed practitioner. Isn’t that too quick? He just left College. But….No….. I have amnesia. But how many years of memories did I actually lose? This is getting scary. He wouldn’t answer my questions either. My head throbbed more and my vision blurred again.

‘’Prepare a sedative’’

No! I’m not going back to bed. Who knows what strange things would happen to me.

‘’No need. I think I can manage without it.’’

‘’Um…..Okay. Take rest. We’ll come back after checking on the other patients’’

Before he could turn around to leave, the door flung open.

Someone was barging in?

I could hear the protests of a nurse who was trying to block the person away. But amidst her protests, the person seems to have insisted to come in. I could hear two sets of footsteps where one was sharp and square while the other seemed scurried. No one came into view yet. Senior Wei and Alice were waiting for the person to enter and froze on their feet once they saw the person. They were obstructing my view, so I couldn’t see anything.

Soon a nurse hurried in and reported, ‘’Doctor, sorry. I couldn’t stop this person’’

There was no reply from Senior Wei or Alice. They stood rooted to the ground without the sign of any movement, like wax figurines. But without being instructed, they immediately stepped aside for the person to come near me.

I finally saw the person. It was a young man of around 27 or 28 years old. He was wearing black from head to toe and his skin was pale. He reminded me of the Grim Reaper. His body looked quite well maintained even under the suit he was wearing. The most outstanding part was his face. His face looked like it was set on stone. It was giving frigging cold vibes. But that isn’t the case. His facial features were so sharp and aquiline like they were sculpted on fine marble. Such a refreshing sight!  But his eyes and mouth ruined the effect. His beautiful eyes had narrowed into thin slits which sent piercing gazes as if probing out what I’m thinking. His lips set in a thin line upon seeing me and quivered….in anger, it seemed.

Before I could even start thinking about what such a handsome but cold person was doing here, he came closer in a menacing manner. No one dared to intercept.

He looked right into my eyes and asked,

‘’Why? Why would you do that? Why did you come all the way here to Singapore and pretend to be Yi Sha? Why!’’

Singapore!? What am I doing here?..... and Whoa! It was his voice that I heard while I was hallucinating! And the name Yi Sha…?

‘’Who is Yi Sha?’’

I felt that if it was possible, he wouldn’t even have hesitated to burn me into ashes with his laser-sharp gaze. So terrifying! 

But…I didn’t expect that he would say something even more terrifying than that………

‘’Yi Sha is my fiancée’’

I thought I was a cheerful, 3rd-year student studying in China….. How did I end up being engaged to someone in Singapore?!
