I could hear the sound of something thumping loudly in my head, but I could'nt decipher the source of that annoying sound.
Groggily, I opened my eyes, blinking rapidly as my pupils adjusted to the dim lighting of my sorrounding. The incessant thumping still continued, but this time I knew the source of it, I had a splitting headache. Slowly but calculatingly, my eyes wandered around the recesses of the room.
It was illuminated by a single red bulb and it was very dainty with a little vanity in one corner and a little further was a door which inadvertantly led to my freedom.
Swiftly, I swung my body down from the hard mattrass I had been laying on for God knows how long.
My eyes caught the bandages around my arm.
Who would have thought?, they actually dressed my wound.
While on my feet, I wobbled a little as a wave of dizziness set in. Quickly, I held unto the vanity to gain some semblance of control. As soon as the dizziness came, it passed and I walked slowly towards the door which I knew would likely be locked but I really had to confirm.
When I reached the door, I hesitated a little but nevertheless, I turned the knob and it squeaked as the lock clicked open.
A small gasp of surprise left my lips, shouldn't the door be locked since apparently I was kidnapped or maybe it was a trap but it's one I wouldn't be caught in.
Pushing the door open a little wider, I carefully peeped through first and a narrow and dim lit hallway came into view with three other doors toward the end of it including the one I was in, but the good part was there was no one in sight. Slowly I pushed the door open, cringing as it creeked loudly and echoed down the hallway.
The deafening silence that followed made my ears ring and my heart palpitate faster, threatening to burst out my rib cage. A shaky breath left my chapped lips as I trudged silently down the other side.
At the end of the hallway, a few feet ahead, there was a spiral staircase leading down stairs and a little bit ahead were big double mahogany doors which I was sure led outside. The house was oddly empty but the faint smell of tobacco in the air indicated that there where people there, which meant I had to try and escape with caution.
Summoning the last bit of courage in me, I tiptoed towards the spiral stairs and frowned as the old wood groaned under my weight, carefully I trudged down the stairs, taking two at a time.
Cold marble floors and cream coloured walls greeted me as I made it down, the whole interior was otherwise empty save for the mismatched placement of vases around.
The sound of heavy footsteps halted me in my steps towards the front door, frantically my head whipped from left to right as my eyes scanned the interior, searching for a possible hiding place.
The footsteps were getting louder as I spotted a pillar at my left hand side and tiptoed towards it, hugging my arms on my chest as I hid behind it while mumbling prayers not to be seen. The footsteps drew nearer and I heard two deep voices converse in a foreign language.
"Ella debería estar despierta ahora", [she should be awake now], the first one said.
"Sí Julio, quizás Cruz nos permita tenerla antes de que venga el jefe", [Yes Julio, maybe Cruz will let us have her before boss comes]. The first voice laughed at whatever the other one said and continued to speak.
"Tienes un puto deseo de muerte", [You have a fucking death wish]
"¿Por qué", [why?].
"¿No te informaron, el jefe ordenó específicamente que nadie pusiera un dedo sobre la niña". [Weren't you informed?, boss specifically ordered that no one lay a finger on the girl]
"oh", came the second voice.
Their voices faded as their footsteps retreated upstairs probably to check on me, which meant I had to move. Quickly, I emerged from my hiding place and ran toward the front door, pushing it open, I mumbled a word of appreciation as it soundlessly revealed the setting sun, closing the door behind me I raced down the porch bare footed in the opposite direction and never looked back.

My hair whipped in different directions as the wind slapped at my face. I was already running out of breath but stopping was not an option, at least not unless I came accross civilisation.
On either side of me, the looming trees of the thick rain forest dwarfed me and in front of me, the endless asphalt road diminished any hope of me finding civlisation or help in time.
The unmistakable screech of tires behind me resounded and fear pooled through my whole body, rendering my knees weak. There was no way I could outrun them with their vehicles unless I took refuge in the forest.
A whimper left my lips as I thought of all the dangerous creatures that could be lurking in the forest. I looked between the road and the forest undecidedly, shaking my head, I bolted into the forest, cussing non-stop when I realised I was barefooted.
Oh well, it was better than being caught anyway, heaven knows what would happen to me then.
Unrelentlessly, I trudged deeper into the forest, only stoppng to catch my breath and listen for any sound behind. The sun had already set rendering the forest partially dark as patches of moonlight filtered through the thick canopies of the trees.
It was relatively silent except for the chirping of Crickets and the rustling of leaves in the wind. Looking around, I found a tree stump nearby, walking toward it, I sat on the forest floor and rested my aching muscles against the tree stump.
A sigh left my lips, hugging my knees to my chest I scanned my sorrounding once more. A tear rolled down my cheek and a choked sob threatened to escape, I didn't know if I would survive the forest let alone my assailant, if I was ever captured.
I knew mother didn't know it would come to this, but that didn't justify her actions, it was still her fault. I cried till my tear ducts ran out of tears and fell asleep due to exhaustion...

The loud echoe of dogs barking in the distance jolted me awake. With ragged breaths, I took in my sorrounding. The rumble of thunder overhead indicated a possible chance of a heavy rainfall. With the help of the tree stump behind me, I pushed myself up into a standing position. The vicious barking of dogs continued, no doubt hunting dogs. They may have figured I would have chosen to take refuge in the forest. With shaking limbs, I trudged in the opposite direction, looking over my shoulder in paranoia anytime I heard shuffling in the bushes. The wind picked up drastically making white mist form anytime I exhaled. Peeling my eyes open took a much greater effort than it should. Stain glass windows came into view. The array of colours in the glass casting a pinkish hue in the room, rousing a dovish feel in me.The sharp sting of pain in my jaw, kickstarted my perforated memory, causing a rush of the previous event to ram into my head all at once. I winced when I realized I had been kidnapped once again. For the first time, I took notice of the room I was in and awed at the architecture. Almost everything in the bedroom was antique. No wonder the windows were a made of stain glass.Who the hell uses stain glass windows in this era if not in a church...Or is this a castle?
Remember when I said things couldn't get any worse?. It did. My back hit the metal lockers behind me and I slumped down, till my butt hit the tiled floor. The loud music did nothing to drown my anger. I looked down at the ridiculous outfit I was made to put on. He was actually serious about the waitress thing. "You're bluffing", I gritted my teeth in anger. He chuckled, his eyes twinkling until they turned deadly serious in seconds. "You should be thankful I didn't sell you off to work in a whorehouse", he seethed. "I know what you're thinking in that pretty little head of yours" "If you try to escape, I will find you", he spoke through gritted, his Topaz pools turning dark. "Then I'd really consider the whorehouse, I bet many would love to have a taste of this", his eyes raked hungrily over my body and even though I was fully clothed with a jacket on, I still felt naked and vuln
A week had passed since I was forced to work at Night Owl. I had somewhat gotten used to my daily routine of waking up, having breakfast and sitting around all day doing nothing until evening, when a driver would take me to work and bring me back.Miguel had bodyguards all over the house, so there was no chance of me ever escaping.Sometimes I couldn't help but wonder what kind of business Miguel was into. I could recall that day in the rain, he shot someone, but I couldn't be sure, maybe I was hallucinating.I pulled out a business card I had been hiding and looked at it. Maybe he could help, but I was afraid of getting him involved, what if Miguel was really dangerous and gets him killed....
I paced the length of my room impatiently. I had the opportunity to carry out my plan since Miguel was working from home and his office would be unlocked. But there was no way to get into his office undetected and even if I did get in by chance, I was sure his computer would require a password to access it. I pushed and pulled at my hair, there was little time to get what I wanted but there was no guarantee that I'd actually find something. Was I stupid to do the dirty work for Stefan?, but then he promised to get me out of Night Owl to a safe place. Wait a minute He didn't seem surprised when I asked for help getting out of Night Owl. He should've asked me why I couldn

It wasa stormynight that fateful day. The loud rumble of thunder overhead did nothing to drown out the screams of the woman in labour. A nurse wiped at the sweat dribbling down her forehead as her breathing became even more erratic. Her legs were spread open and the doctor placed a gloved hand on her swollen stomach, encouraging her to push one more time. With all her might, the woman pushed and the cry of a new born filled the room. A smile formed on her chapped lips as joy filled her heart. An exhausted exhale fell past her lips as she stared idly at the white ceiling. The new born continued to wail
I jolted awake at the blaring sound of my alarm clock. Sighing, I pressed the off button. Groggily, I got out of bed and walked out of my room toward the bathroom. Opening the faucet, I splashed water on my face and stared at the mirror for a few seconds. I tied my Auburn hair in a messy bun and proceeded in brushing my teeth. Once done, I made my way to the kitchen first. My mother and I lived in a two bedroom apartment which I was responsible for keeping spotless. I scrambled into the living room after preparing a steaming cup of coffee for mother, leaving it to cool for a while. After cleaning the living room, I proceeded to the kitchen to make breakfast before mother awakes.

You know that moment when you're caught doing something you know you shouldn't be doing, then you feel like a deer caught in the headlights. It all moves in slow motion, the impending doom. That was exactly how I felt when I watched mother stand with a fear stricken face."Get her!", Cruz yelled at his bodyguard who stood motionlessly behind him."No!, let her go, I didn't bargain for this!", she protested, trying to hold the bodyguard back but he shrugged her off of him without effort. He stalked towards me menacingly and I continued to back away from him while still on the floor paralysed with fear. With a newly found energy, I sprung up and raced towards the front door and pulled
I walked briskly down to the bus stop and boarded a bus. In about ten minutes, the bus halted and I got down.Outside, I took in the busy atmosphere while walking down the cobblestone pavement of the street.I quickened my pace when I spotted the small diner I worked in ahead. Pushing the glass door open, the bell chimed signalling my entrance.Inside, I spotted Nancy, my co-worker and friend on the far end corner of the shop wiping furiously at a table. Her unruly dark brown curls were swishing back and forth as she wiped the table.Chuckling, I padded on towards the staff room at the back of the counter while calling and waving in her direction.
