Aubrey
I was exhausted by the time I got home. It had been a busy day. I was ready to get into my pjs, have dinner and a glass of wine, in front of the TV watching some crappy movie. My mind was tired from everything that was going on today, but I have a prototype for a new website for Modern Vintage because I think they can do better than they have right now. They cater to all, and I don’t believe the site shows that. I think if they showed more, then they could become more.
I sat my things down, heading to the kitchen to reheat yesterday’s leftovers. I hated cooking, so I always cooked enough to cook for two nights. If I could live on takeaways, I would, but that wasn’t healthy for anyone. I was a lazy cook. I can cook. I just didn’t like doing it. I heated the pasta in the microwave and prepared a side salad to go with it. I poured myself a glass of rose wine.
I changed myself into my PJ’s and got myself comfortable on the sofa, deciding to watch the crime channel to pass the time. I was about to take the first bite but was interrupted by my work phone going. It was the tone I use for my email. It was probably Kay, freaking out about something, or Darren wanting to talk about the plan. I grabbed my phone, opening the email and was surprised to see it was from Mr Hunter.

Good evening, Miss Winter’s,
Kay informed me that she had chosen you to work closely with me on this project. She tells me you are the best she has, but I will be the judge of that.
There is no room for mistakes with this, and if you are not sure you are up for this, you tell me right now.
I need a team I can trust—a team who can work under pressure. I need a team who won’t complain about early mornings and late nights. I need someone to work under pressure. You get one chance, and one chance only! You mess up. You are out!
Kind Regards
Gabe Hunter (CEO, HUNTER’S LIMITED)
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes as I read it. He even sounded like a douche in his emails. I hit reply and changed the subject line.

Subject: I work well under pressure
Good evening, Mr Hunter,
Yes, Kay chose me because I am the best at what I do. I don’t make mistakes. I also work very well under pressure. I can do this, and I have no doubts in my mind that I can’t.
Kind Regards,
Aubrey Winters
I'm not too fond of kind regards, but it comes up automatically when we write emails. I waited for him to email back, and it didn’t take long.

As I said, I will be the judge of that, Miss Winters. I want you at the office at seven-thirty a.m. Monday. You are a minute late, do not bother coming.
Have a good evening.
Kind Regards,
Gabe Hunter (CEO)
Seven-thirty a.m. is he serious? We don’t usually start until nine a.m. Asshole! I am going to be cranky Monday morning, that is for sure. I didn’t even respond after that. I put my work phone on silent. I was off the clock. I don’t need to be contactable.
All I can hope is that I do not end up killing him by the end of this. Yes, we have a month to get ideas sorted, but if all goes well, then I will be stuck with him for even longer. I need to keep my professional head on my shoulders. My job is more critical than is arrogance and my dislike for him.
I pushed him to the back of my mind and concentrated on my alone time. These were my favourite times, just me, myself and I. I wasn’t ashamed of enjoying it. Everyone who knew me was used to it by now.
I think an early night is in the cards for me tonight. I was looking forward to a long lie tomorrow since I don’t start until noon. I still can’t believe he is making us go in so early!
God, I was a whiny bitch tonight, was I not? I am sure there are people out there who get up at that time every morning or earlier. I should stop complaining and be thankful I have a job.
Monday morning should be interesting, if nothing else. I can only hope that I don’t end up in prison for murdering the rude son-of-a-bitch.

I was in the middle of watching a movie, stuffing my face with popcorn. You can’t watch a movie without it, that is just wrong! Or maybe that is just me. My personal phone soon started ringing. My first thought was it was one of my friends, but when I picked it up, it was a number I didn’t recognise. I didn’t have it stored in my phone, but it was a cell number. Who the heck was that?
I thought for a moment, hoping it would stop ringing, but it didn’t. I groaned, hitting the answer button.
“Hello, who is this?” I ask curiously.
“Gabe Hunter,” He said, but he sounded a little annoyed.
Who does he think he is calling my personal phone? He has no right.
“And why are you calling this number?” I said, trying to keep my annoyance at bay.
“Well, if you answered your work phone, then I wouldn’t have had to,” He said sternly.
“I am off the clock. I do not need to use my work phone,” I reply.
I grabbed my work phone and saw there was an email, a text and a missed call. What the heck? That is a little too much!
“You should still be available in case needed,” He said.
That is bullshit! There is no rule like that. There is nothing like that in my contract.
“Why are you calling?” I asked.
I roll my eyes when I do. It isn’t like he can see me.
“I want a quick zoom meeting with you, Darren and Kay on Sunday night,” He says, “Also, I want you at the office by seven a.m. on Monday, rather than seven-thirty,” He added.
None of us works Sunday, so why does he think it is OK to make us do so? I know there was no point in arguing about it. I swear the more I talk to him, the more he irks the hell out of me. I am usually a patient person, a nice person, but something about him gets under my skin badly!
“Yes, Sir,” I said, through gritted teeth.
It is probably a good thing he can’t see me right now. I am sure the look on my face isn’t a happy one.
“Goodnight, Miss Winter’s,” He said and then hung up.
Argh! God, why does he need to do this damn project? I am sure this isn’t part of his job. I will need to deal with it, especially if I want to keep my job.
I sigh, running my fingers through my hair. I look at the email from him on my work phone. It was just the same information he told me on the phone. I opened the text, and when I read it was tempting for me to text back to his rude text, but if I did, then there would be a high chance that I would lose my job. The text read…
Will you get back to me! I do not have all night to wait around for you to reply, Miss Winters. If I do not hear back soon, you will give me no other option than to contact you on your personal phone. The choice is yours!
Rude son-of-a-bitch! I turned my work phone off, and it can stay that way until tomorrow. I plan on some me time, and I am still going to do. Mr Hunter isn’t going to ruin that for me.
AubreyMy plan to have a night alone failed! When I settled down after my call with Gabe, my friends decided to call and informed me that we were going out tonight. It was the weekend, after all. I was too tired, but they insisted. Now, here I am, getting myself ready for a night of bar hopping and clubbing. I would rather be snuggled up on the sofa with a good book. I could have told them no, but it would not have worked because they would just show up at my door. I love my friends, but they can be a pain in my ass. I know they don’t want me to be boring and alone, but sometimes that is exactly what I want.I was mostly ready. I had my hair done, letting my naturally wavy
Gabe“Dude, rather than standing her staring at her from afar, go and talk to her. Buy her a drink. Ask her if she wants a passionate night of lovemaking,” my buddy Carlos said.“Lovemaking? Really?” I laughed, “And no. I am not interested in Miss Winters anyway. Plus, she works for the company,” I added.“They all sound like excuses to me,” He replied,” And you don’t want her? Bullshit! Most men will want her, and you have spent most of the night perving on her,” He added, laughing.“You imagine things, buddy,” I said, “There are strict policies and rules on this kind of thing,” I added. It was true. There were policies against someone at my level fraternising with anyone who works for the company. They are put in place to keep everyone safe
Aubrey I regretted drinking so much last night because now I have to go to work, and I feel like shit! Why did I let myself get in such a state? I don’t know how I will face Gabe at this video call on Sunday, not after last night. I should not have got as wasted, not in front of him. I was dancing on tables and everything, and then he had to take my drunken ass home. How embarrassing for me.I had my shades on to hide my eyes as I walked into work, an extra-strong coffee in my hand. It was my third coffee thus far, and I took painkillers, so hopefully, the hangover will ease within the next couple of hours. I said hello to everyone, heading straight for my office.“You looked like you had a good night,” Darren said, coming into my office.“I am regretting it now,” I groan, resting my head on the table.“Well, sweetie, you bet
Gabe I was frustrated by the end of the meeting. Why? Because of Aubrey. I saw the eyes rolls and the annoyance on her face when I said certain things. Yes, we discussed work in the meeting, everyone seems to know what they are doing, including Aubrey, but her attitude sucks! I could get her ass fired if she wasn’t so damn good.“I think that will do for today,” I said.Everyone nodded and started gathering their things.“Except you, Aubrey, I need a word,” I said, looking at her.“Yes, Sir,” Aubrey replies.Kay and Darren headed out, leaving us to talk.“I would appreciate if you dropped the attitude, Miss Winters,” I said firmly, “If you weren’t as good at your job, I would get your ass fired,” I added.“Yes, I am good a
Aubrey It was Monday morning, and I was heading into work, coffee in hand. I knew I had a busy day ahead of me. I wasn’t dreading it as much as I was on Friday because my time spent with Gabe at the gym has made me relax. We even grabbed a coffee after it. It was strange the two of us getting along. I am not sure how it will be at work, though.I was ignoring how tired I was. That is what happens when I need to get up at five a.m. and only fell asleep about one. Plenty of caffeine, and I will be fine. I headed to my office to drop my things off before heading to the conference room where we were meeting this morning.I grabbed my iPad and phone and headed through. I was the first one there, which surprised me. I thought Gabe or Kay would already have been here. I took a seat, sipping my coffee and waited for the others to arrive.Suddenly the door opens and in walks Gabe. He
Gabe “I think it is time to call it a day. You have all worked hard today,” I announce. It was eight p.m., and I had been working them hard but making sure they had breaks in between. I don’t think I have ever seen people move as quickly as Kay and Darren were moving. Aubrey didn’t seem to be in such a rush.“I will see you all tomorrow, just your usual starting time,” I said, “We made a good start today,” I add.Kay and Darren said goodbye to us, heading out. Aubrey was still typing away on her laptop.“Aubrey, it is time to go home,” I said. She didn’t look up at me; instead, she held her hand up, stating she would be one minute. I don’t even know what she was doing. I waited a minute, and that soon turned to five, and then ten. I was getting impatient. I wanted home.
Aubrey My time with Gabe had been going well until now. We were in the middle of a conversation, and he decided he would rather perv on some woman who just walked in. I shouldn’t be surprised. I hate when people do that. I don’t care who he flirts with, who he does anything with, but it pisses me off that he was so damn rude! The woman seemed to be enjoying his attention. I shook my head, going into my purse and setting money down on the table. I grabbed my things, and stood up, and walked out the door without saying a word. I don’t need to sit there and get ignored.I was trying to hail a cab which wasn’t going so good for me.“Aubrey, what the hell?” I hear from behind me.I roll my eyes and refuse to turn around. Gabe didn’t like it. He came up behind me, turning me around to face him.“Can
Gabe I have been unusually distracted today, especially after Aubrey’s little act this morning about if she wants me, she would have had me. I wanted badly to tell her that she has already had me, but I decided not to, not right now anyway. I hope she works it out herself, but I am not sure if she will. It was years ago, and I looked very different from what I do now.But back to right now. Aubrey has stolen a lot of my attention today, and I don’t even think she realises. I found myself thinking back to the night we spent together, the way her lips felt, the way her body felt below mine. I was having thoughts I shouldn’t be because things were different now.It was one night we spent together. We only exchanged first names. We didn’t give each other any more than that: no phone number, no way to contact each other. One night of hot, passionate sex and the following day, s
*** Three Years Later *** Aubrey “Ahh, I can’t believe it. We are officially in business.” I squeal excitedly as I look around. The workers had done a fantastic job! All the desks were in one large open area so everyone could work in the same space. Gabe and I had our office. We had a food bar set up with everything from cereal to candy, plenty of drinks, and there will be fresh food every single day. We wanted to make a space where everyone would be comfortable. Our staff will consist of forty people in total. I couldn’t wait to get started. The place is decorated with blue and white. It was modern in style. It is everything we pictured it to be. Ga
Gabe “Will you please tell me where we are going? You can’t ask a girl to dress up, take her in the car somewhere and not tell her.” Aubrey huffs from next to me. “No, you will find out soon enough. It doesn’t matter how many times you ask. I am not going to tell you.” I reply firmly. “Fine!” she groans. I laugh and shake my head. The woman had no patience. I know once she realises my plan, she will forgive me. I had a special night planned for us. I enjoy spoiling my stunning fiancée. I am still trying to get used to calling Aubrey that, but we have only been engaged a week. I was eager to make my wife, but we didn’t want to hurry things. “We are here.” I smile, finding a parking spot. Aubrey looks around, a confused look on her face. “Why are we at a hotel?” she asked, c
Aubrey “Marry me, Aubrey….”Wait, did I hear him right? Did he just ask me to marry him? I stilled and lifted my head to look at him.“What? Did I hear you right?” I asked, surprised.“Yes. Marry me?” he repeated.Oh My God, I did hear him right. I stood there, just staring at him. I needed a moment to process his words. Where did that come from? I was not expecting it.“Are you being serious?” I stammered out.“Yes. I love you, and I know in my heart you are the one for me. I don’t ever want to be with anyone else, only you, my love….” He trailed off, the nervousness evident in his voice.I love him too, with everything I have in me. I was ready to spend the rest of my life with him, bu
Gabe Aubrey and I had just arrived at the launch party in the limo.“Are you ready for this, my love?” I asked, looking at her.“As ready as I can be.” She smiled.I nodded and kissed her softly. She looked stunning tonight, and a part of me couldn’t wait to show her off to everyone. The limo door opened, and I stepped out first. The place was swimming with the pressed guests walking in, stopping for photos. The place was crazy. I knew it would be a big deal tonight. I just didn’t realise how much of a big deal.I turned around, offered Aubrey my hand. She smiled widely at me, took it, and I helped her out of the car. The moment she saw what awaited outside, she was like a deer in the headlights. She wasn’t used to all of this, not to this extent.“I am right
Aubrey I had dragged Gabe out shopping with me. I was supposed to go with a friend, but she was sick, so I decided that Gabe would take her place, much to his dismay. I was looking for a dress for the launch party next week. Gabe had his outfit, and it took him like ten minutes to find it online. By doing that, he believed he would get out of shopping altogether, but that didn’t go as planned for him.“Please don’t take all day, my love,” he pouted.“I won’t, promise, then maybe we can stop by the lingerie shop,” I smirked.“Mmm, yes, please…” he groaned.I would say that was a good compromise. I knew he would like that idea.“But there is a catch to it,” I smirked, “You can’t complain again about going shopping with me, or
Gabe Aubrey and I have been living together for a couple of weeks now, and it is going great! I love having her there, and I have been happy non-stop since she did.I was at Aubrey’s work today for us all to finish off the project for MV. They were pleased with everything and had won the bid to advertise for them. We only had a couple of minor things left before it went live. It was going to be incredible. I am proud of the team; with us all working together, it had turned out perfectly. Everyone was happy, which was the main thing.I was currently heading into the break room to get a coffee. I noticed a few women who work with the company, but they didn’t notice me coming in.“I still think that is how Aubrey got to work on the project because she is screwing the CEO,” one said.I can’t remember h
Aubrey I was eagerly waiting for Gabe to get back. He should be here soon. I had missed him these last few days. As I thought about him, I heard the front door open.“Hey, sweetness, where you at?” he called out.I grinned to myself, got up from the sofa and went to greet him. He smiled brightly when he saw me approach him. The second I was within arm’s reach, he grabbed me and pulled me to him, kissing me passionately. I moaned, slipped my arms around and kissed him back. He held me tight to his body.We parted after a minute.“I missed you, my love,”“I missed you too,” I replied and kissed him again. He didn’t seem to mind. I missed not only him but his kisses and bedtime cuddles. When we stopped kissing, he pulled me to his chest and h
Gabe I woke with a pounding headache and the hangover from hell! We got back to the hotel at six a.m., and most of last night was a blur. I checked my phone and saw I had called Aubrey in the early hours. It took me a moment, but then I remembered why I called her and that I told her I would call her first thing.I hit the call button on her name. I wasn’t sure if she would answer because I knew she had plans with her friends today, but I wasn’t sure of the time she was leaving. It rang only a couple of times, and then she answered.“Good morning, love. Are you rough?” she giggled.“Morning, sweetheart. Yes, very,” I groaned.“Aww, my poor baby,” she teased.“Come and look after me,”“Nope! No one to blame but yourself, s
Aubrey Gabe was away for the weekend with a few of his friends for one of their bachelor parties. The wedding was in a couple of weeks, and he asked me to go as his date, to which I agreed. I had plans with my girls tomorrow. We were going for a spa day which I was looking forward to because it has been a busy week.As for Gabe and me, we were keeping it on the down-low for now, well, to the people at work anyway. It is none of their business. The most important people know, and I am sure the time will come everyone at work will find out. But I don’t care. The fact doesn’t even bother me now. What is the worst that can happen? They judge. What is new in this day and age? I have another job to go to if I need to. My personal life has nothing to do with anyone.I was currently in bed, reading. Yes, it sounds boring for a Friday night, but I enjoyed it. I had
