‘Well, we were thinking about how to go about that. Instead of a mandatory drug test, which might open a can of worms, something you might not be prepared to deal with. I was thinking of getting DNA from Celine,’ Jere suggests. ‘Maybe one of us can visit her and get some samples. You can do a paternity test on siblings, right?’
‘Well, I think it’s time I think I went on a date, don’t you think? She might be older than me, but maybe I can charm her and get a few strands of her hair,‘ he said, staring at Max, trying to bait him.
Jere had been tracking Max for the past two months, only because he’s been disappearing more than usual, and he found from their bank records Max had been flying to San Diego every Friday night for the past nine weeks. He had a hunch that he was visiting Celine, but he was not sure. He wanted his brother to tell them himself.
Clara’s door had been left wide open the night before. Outside, she and Baz could hear that Jere had turned on the TV to cartoons while Max was busily banging pots and pans, pretending to make breakfast. She didn’t want to come out and leave the comfort of Sebastian’s arms. Tomorrow, he won’t be there, so she’d be waking up alone, and she did not want to think about it. Was Clara getting used to being with him? He was still asleep, and she took this opportunity to stare at him. Clara touched his lower lip with her thumb, then followed it with her lips. She planned to wake him up so they could kiss again. And she knew it worked when his arm snaked around her body and pulled her towards him. ‘Hmm… good morning, my love,’ he says, kissing her neck. ‘Can we just snuggle some more and wake up later?’ ‘Hey, lovebirds!
‘Okay, fine, I’m scared. What if I’m not what you expect? What if I don’t know what I’m doing?’ Clara said cryptically. ‘How am I going to tell him I’m bad at relationships, maybe even sex? Wasn’t that the reason all my exes left me? I couldn’t satisfy their needs. What if I forgot how to do it? I can’t learn that on the internet, right, or maybe I could?’ Clara thought as her mind raced, finding reasons to push him away. ‘What do you mean? In terms of relationships? You think I know what I’m doing?’ Sebastian asks, amused that she was worried about such trivial things. He just wanted to wrap her in his arms and hide her forever. ‘Don’t you think I’m scared, too? What if I let you down? What if I’m not handsome enough for you,’ he jokes, trying to keep things light, ‘What if I can’t see you all the time? Will you grow t
Clara asks for a meeting Monday morning with all the technicians available on hand, Max and Jeremy with their assistants, together with Eli, her PA, filling up the meeting room. She talked about how the final installation for Navio International has been moved to an earlier date. ‘A month from today’s date when we can have all the equipment ready and all the staff available. We will need six technicians to change all the cameras and prepare the wiring for the new system unless you guys think we need more. We will finish work on the remaining eight floors and the rooftop patio. There will be different offices and different departments per floor. Anybody who comes gets overtime pay for Sunday. It’s when I expect you guys to drive to the site. Leave the truck at t
As Heather took her seat in front of Jeremy’s office, she contemplated her relationship with Clara. That remark about being there for her graduation really meant a lot to her. Sure, they’ve known each other for ten years now, ever since Heather was in high school, but aside from the night she crashed at their place, they’ve never talked about anything else. It baffled her why Clara even liked her. ‘I’m just another employee. Why should she care about me?’ she wondered. Maybe it had something to do with Jeremy because Clara knew Heather was in love with him. Now that her graduation was in sight, she was officially his secretary. The trip to San Diego for the installation got her excited. It was her chance to get closer to Jeremy. Not that working for him didn’t give her a lot of opportunities, but with her boss sit
It was Friday morning when Sebastian got the call. One of the shipping vessels was on fire. An accident, they said, but the explosion made him suspect foul play, so he had to investigate what had happened. ‘They built those crates to withstand fire,’ he thought to himself. ‘What was in them that set that explosion anyway?’ he questioned while watching the security tapes they got from the ship and on the dock. All week long, he had been looking forward to this day coming. He was flying over to see Clara later tonight, but now that will never happen. They would have to postpone their date for next week or the week after, maybe even until this disaster blows over. The investigation will take all day and night, and h
The next time Clara heard from Sebastian was when he was on the news addressing the media and everyone else who got hurt. They were still pulling out survivors by the time her plane took off. She texted him, asking him where he was because she wanted to be sure that he would be at the office when her plane landed. She didn’t really know where his house was, so that would have been a disaster if she had to ask him for directions. But she took Lexi’s cell just in case she needed to ask for it later. On the plane, Clara did not notice that Max was on the same flight, sitting a few seats behind her, wearing a baseball cap he had bought at the airport when he spotted her. He boarded the plane ahead of her and was now crouched down in his seat so she wouldn’t see him. She had the habit of looking at people when she was flying. It was her way of knowing the pe
‘Do you want to order food so we can just have it here?’ Clara asks after they stop kissing. Her tummy has been grumbling since he went running after his dad. ‘I forgot to eat lunch because I was so nervous trying to get here.’ ‘Of course, let’s go to Lexi’s desk. He has all the menus. Tell me, why did you feel that way? Were you nervous about seeing my handsome face?’ he said teasingly. She laughed and swatted his arm. ‘I don’t know. What if you didn’t want me here?’ she says, then curses. When he asks her why, Clara tells him that she forgot to book a place for the night. ‘You can always stay with me, you know that right?’ he says, and her heart drops. ‘Does it mean that he wants us to sleep together? Is tonight the night?’ she turned pale and tried to avert her gaze.

Clara forgot how good it felt to kiss somebody, especially someone as good a kisser as Sebastian. Someone who did not slobber all over her. Shoved his tongue down her throat. Or sucked her lips like he was sucking an oyster out of its shell. His kisses felt just right, soft in the beginning, and like a slow-burning wood log, the fire grows steadily, igniting and awakening the desire deep within her. She could feel Sebastian’s hand grazing her arms and her legs as if questioning her if it was
