“...I’m his brother.”
Jerson just looked at Vishnu and Noah. He found it very strange. He was sure that Noah set things up but he wasn’t sure why Noah would resort to this. What would he be gaining from this?Nothing. Noah could gain nothing from it. He was just wasting time playing this futile game.Jerson closed his eyes and groaned.“It would be a shame if you ignore my hand.”Jerson maintained a steady gaze at Vishnu as the prosecutor extended his hand. Pressing his lips, Jerson contemplated Vishnu's unusual behavior. The question lingered in his mind: What's up with Vishnu, and what's the connection between these seemingly indifferent siblings?Despite the potential lack of harm, Jerson hesitated to accept Vishnu's extended hand. Uncomfortable merely in the presence of Vishnu, the prospect of clasping hands with the prosecutor intensified his restlessness. But wouldn't it be more disrespectful to ignore him? Vshnu was just being polite.Jerson gulped, reluctantly extending his hand. As their hands clasped, he caught a glimpse of Noah's smile in his peripheral vision. Biting his tongue, Jerson couldn't shake the feeling of appeasing Noah's desires, a fact he deeply resented.Jerson clenched his jaw and shut his eyes, memories flooding back. The constant reminders from Noah about his younger brother echoed in his mind, and the recollection of how Noah described Vishnu stirred intense irritation within him.All of it was Noah’s fault! He shouldn’t have said those things right on his face!“Jerson Luiselli,” he said. He jolted when he felt a spark and immediately pulled back his hand. What was that?An innocent way of holding hands was making his heart skip a beat?Embarrassed, Jerson turned his back. He ignored the two and kept himself busy. He looked at his IPad. He grunted when he spotted some of Avialanchê’s men. He brushed his hair before looking at the two siblings standing in front of him.The two were discussing something so he left them alone for a moment.Observing the people in the area, Jerson keenly noted the normalcy of most, but there were always individuals who stood out from the crowd. His discerning eyes didn't let any subtle details escape his notice. He licked his lips. “Let’s head back first. Some motherfuckers are tagging around and following this so-called decent Prosecutor,” he said mockingly. Why would a decent person get followed around? Not unless he’s rotten down to his core.Noah laughed. Jerson got even more exasperated.“These two are too troublesome for me to handle. I deserve a fucking break,” Jerson whispered but was still loud enough to be heard.Vishnu groaned, catching Jerson's remarks. He comprehended Jerson's difficulty in handling Noah due to his brother's challenging temperament. However, the notion of himself being troublesome was entirely unprecedented and irked him. Vishnu had always been the one to shoulder and solve problems, not create them. He found Jerson's comments gibberish, especially considering their brief acquaintance. However, contrary to Vishnu’s reaction, Noah started laughing at his younger brother’s annoyed expression and couldn’t stop. His brother could hardly gave emotions once in a blue moon. He was happy that he could see that irritated face without putting in too much effort on it.But Vishnu wasn’t pleased about it.While Noah and Vishnu drive using a car, Noah comes up with an idea again.Noah had been anticipating this moment—the meeting of the two significant people in his life. Eager to witness their bonding, he recognized that, despite the passage of years, they still held the heart to face each other. The weight of the setup had become unbearable for him, and he yearned for a resolution. He moved on already. He already forgave Jerson. Things in the past should be forgotten as they won’t help them grow.“I could hear your thoughts from here, Noah.”Noah smiled. “He’s handsome, isn’t he? Just like your type.”Vishnu couldn’t give him a precise answer. Handsome is such an understatement. Jerson is an outstanding man. If only not for his arrogant attitude, he could be perfect. In a sudden moment, Vishnu's mind conjured an image of Jerson's proud face and indifferent expression, sparking irritation within him. Silently wishing to never cross paths with the man again, he found it increasingly challenging to tolerate Jerson's presence.“I’ve been telling you, dude. You two were a match made by heaven. You even promised to marry—”“And there you are again, Noah,” Vishnu cutted him off. “I’m asking you for an indication to prove yourself that you’ve been telling me the truth, but you just can’t because it isn’t true, right?” He sighed. “I’ve been straight all my life, Noah. How could I fall for a guy who’s as rude as him?” he added.“It’s up to you, bro.” Noah crossed his arms. “But don’t you ever ask me for any advice if you find yourself falling for the same guy. Don’t even ask for help if things turned out difficult for you,” Degree sulkily said.Vishnu snorted. “Yeah… yeah,” he said. “Anyway, do you want me to make a schedule for your check-up? I guess there’s a bug in your brain or something?”“Shut up.”Noah gave him a middle finger. Vishnu just chortled and continued driving.Jerson examined every corner of the street they were passing through. He wasn’t sure if the information he collected through scanning the CCTV was accurate enough to save him from all the trouble. He couldn’t afford to get injured before quitting.Hospital bills will only add a significant sum of money to his debt. Hospital bills nowadays cost a sum of high capital. He couldn’t afford that big money. This day was supposedly the day he’ll resign from his job and start looking for an ordinary part-time job. He has to lay low for the time-being. He might get killed even before he found out the reason behind the accident years ago.Jerson tilted his head. His case of attempted murder where he was the victim happened on the exact date but in a different year from his parents’ disappearance. There’s a possibility that the two incidents might be connected. It made Jerson uneasy. Although he didn’t dare to investigate the incident years ago that made him lose some of his memory, he had his hunch that it was connected to his parents’ disappearance. It might also be connected to the thing that happened in his senior years that left a scar on his wrist. He sighed. He wanted to blame Noah. He was trapped in this situation because he forced him to do it, but he knows he shouldn’t. It was his fault in the first place for falling for that ridiculous stunt.[You two go ahead first. I have something to check out.]After texting, he slid his IPad into his briefcase. He could see a suspicious man standing near the steel safety bollard through the door quarter of the car beside him. The man appeared to be normal to someone’s eyes.Jerson acted cluelessly as he strolled past the concrete sidewalk. The man who was looking at him caressed something in his ear and muffled some words before walking at the dark corner.Jerson shook his head. He pressed his lip. Should he satisfy the prognosis of the fools or just end the game they set up to avoid wasting so much time?Ambush, Jerson grinned. They’re planning for an ambush, and he already foresaw this.Jerson could tell that they had come up with this kind of resort to deal with him. They had planned to corner him alone; outnumber him so they’d be able to kill the motherfucker who gave them so much trouble and gain the money in exchange for his head. It’s like hitting two birds with one stone. What a bunch of dupes.Jerson couldn't help but smirk at the other party's seemingly foolish prosecutions. The unfortunate situation exposed significant loopholes in their operations. Jerson is adept at spotting such weaknesses and utilizing them to his advantage. It was precisely this skill set that made Noah reluctant to let him go—recognizing that Jerson's exceptional talent shouldn't be taken for granted.Jerson halted and deliberately groped his jacket, looking for something. He knows he couldn’t fight such men who have large-caliber weapons in their hands. How could they play games like this? Such cowardly men actually have the guts to stand before him who had faced death multiple times.Jerson picked the black button in his pocket. It looked like a simple U.S.B., but that isn’t just as simple as it appeared. His technology-genius friend, Alec, made this black button. The simple button could regulate anything connected to electricity. The chips inside were made to ignite electricity from naturally existing fluxes such as wind and heat near the fuel sources. It only made it easier given the fact that machines and cars already had stored energy.Jerson could hear those silent footsteps that were subsiding within the gloomy air. He continued walking. He only stopped when he was already in the middle. He could feel the presence of the men who were after him. He closed his eyes before pressing the button. The alarms from different kinds of engines disturbed the stillness of the parking lot. The disturbance caught the men off-guard. While their guard was down, Jerson got the smoke bomb stored in his briefcase and threw it at them. He then hastily walked towards the guy who had been tailing him and dragged him out of the chaos. When they were far enough, Jerson banged the man at the concrete wall making the man moan in pain.Jerson snorted. “How could your boss trust the likes of you who were too lenient to execute such flawed plans?” he asked while groping the man’s suit. When he found what he was looking for, he slid it into his briefcase. It was just a simple symbol of some sort for some, but Jerson believed that it could lead him to his parents. He’d been obtaining it for decades and got various collections, however none of those were the same as the tattoo he got.“I’ll let you go for now. If I caught you the second time around, I’d pull the trigger of my pistol with the muzzle pointing at your skull.”Jerson fixed himself before looking at the time. It’d been 20 minutes. It took a lot longer than expected.“Tell your boss about my regards, yeah? Tell him I can’t wait to see his shortness stand in front of me without quivering in fear."Jerson felt a slight pain on his face. He looked at himself in the mirror. As he stared at his reflection to check if there was a wound, he noticed a cut. There was blood coming out from it. He washed it to prevent the blood from spewing around his face. “I should have cut his finger to get back with this,” he mumbled. He felt the great urge to beat up whoever punk made this to him. He sighed. He washed it again and left it for a few moments to let his face dry.He examined himself in front of the mirror once again. He made sure to look presentable before leaving the comfort room. After a few moments, he walked out of the four-cornered room and found his way to the two.The restaurant was crowded with customers. Even on the pavement way to the lounge area, many people were standing and talking to each other. Some were answering calls. Jerson finally entered the main hall. He saw the two men elegantly sitting, facing each other. Anyone could tell that the two came from a well-off fam
“Forcing me to do things like this….” Jerson couldn’t finish what he wanted to say. He saw how Vishnu’s hand tightened into fist. He sighed and looked at Vishnu whose temper seemed to be wearing thin. “Did you even ask about the prosecutor's opinion about this?” he asked. He was confident that Vishnu wouldn’t agree with it given that they were awkward together. Their encounter earlier sprouted the awkwardness growing between them and he knew that there was no way the prosecutor would want to be with him.He brushed his hair and waited for Vishnu to answer. “I’m okay with it.” Vishnu’s tone was so sharp. His voice was raspy and cold, making Jerson stare at him. Jerson furrowed his brows and tilted his head. He couldn’t tell why Vishnu didn’t refute and declined Noah’s suggestion when an obvious disgust was plastered on Vishnu's face. Now, he was devastated by the fact that he won’t be able to repudiate the proposition now that the prosecutor had already accepted it.Who was he to dec
Jerson examined the whole area. He was anxious. He felt like someone was following them and was planning to kill Vishnu. He roamed his gazes around while his chin leaned on his palm. There was no one suspicious inside. He looked outside the restaurant. There was a person sitting inside the eatery at the convenience store. It was an ideal spot for a criminal when stalking someone. The man was eating, perhaps, cup noodles. After only a few moments, the guy went outside and left. He scratched his head. There was also no one suspicious outside. He took a deep breath. Maybe he was just anxious and overreacting. There was nothing skeptical among the people outside and inside the restaurant. In his years of working for the Empresarium, he already knew the faces of those mafia residing in the underworld. He rested his back on the backrest and loosened up. He stared at Vishnu, who was grinning at the woman. Seeing it just ticked him off. Vishnu was enjoying himself. He could tell how relax
Jerson got up and walked outside immediately after he heard a rustle outside the mansion. He leaned his back on the wall beside the door, looking for something, perhaps looking for a sign of the disturbance caused by the intruders. He took a short nap in the living room and got up after he noticed noise from the outside. It wasn’t that loud, but it could still be heard by someone who had his guard up. He took out a cigarette and a lighter in his pocket before he lit it and put it in between his lips. Earlier, Vishnu didn’t give him an earful which he thought was acceptable based on Vishnu’s attitude. Giving him the cold shoulder was still normal based on Vishnu’s temperance; however, it still agitates him. Vishnu treats him like he didn’t exist at all. He kept on asking what the problem was, but Vishnu wouldn’t respond, leaving him feeling very conflicted. The fact that Vishnu treats him like that and his nap was disturbed, he couldn’t wait to strangle the intruder and let out his fr
“Please breathe. You’re making me worried.”Vishnu stiffened his body. His muscles tensed. He scratched his head, aiming to make sense of everything. Yet, he couldn’t. He wanted to smack himself. How could he act like that? Ever since he realized why he’d been feeling weird the first time he met Jerson until now, he drew the line. He just met the person for fuck’s sake so why would he feel that way? And to a man, huh?Everything just doesn't add up. There is no freaking way!He knows himself better! He isn’t against the lgbtqi+ community and the projects they had established helping them in battling for their rights over the time, and he’s definitely not homophobic, however, thinking he was one of them was way too absurd. He could never accept that. He’d been straight all his life!Vishnu took a deep breath while Jerson continued fixing his tie. Once again, he found himself attracted to Jerson’s fragrance. He stopped breathing again when he smelled the same fragrance he scented at the
“It’s not like I am wanted or something! You can’t make me cover my face!” Jane hissed. Noah frustratedly massages his temple. “You aren’t but the exact struggles fit with being known by most people. Humanity wags their tails for the so-called white lotus and all that crap,” Noah declared. “What do you want me to do? Cover my face then?” Jane crossed her arms and raised her right brow. “Over my dead gorgeous body! I’ll just sue them for intruding on someone's privacy!” she added.“And you believed you could sue your fan? That’ll ruin your image, idiot!” “I don’t care! I have another job aside from acting goody-two-shoes!” Noah groaned. This woman acts differently when Jerson is around, but when it’s only the two of them, she’s really getting into his nerves. He looked at Jane again, who was acting like a brat. Noah didn’t know why he chose this woman and now he regretted such a reckless decision. She’s giving him a severe headache. “I’ll fire you,” Noah warned but this didn’t star
“What if the boss gets killed on my surveillance? What would be the requital?” Jane inquires. The question was presumed to be innocent by quite a lot of people but Jerson, who knew Jane for years knows that this isn’t just a simple question she had come up with out of curiosity. Jerson suspects that Jane was cautious of the fact that she happens to be inferior compared to Vishnu. Jane, who used to be in the limelight, doesn't want to suffer the same fate as those she tormented. She despised being perceived as incompetent when compared with others. If Vishnu were to join the Empresí, her rank will go down by one and that’ll make her the fifth. She’ll be assigned to an unstable squadron by then. She didn’t want that. With that kind of thought, Jane had her hidden agenda upon signing the contract. If Vishnu decided to get engaged with the Empresí — which is possible if they were to mention his past background — Jane wouldn’t think twice about harming the Prosecutor. Even though she knew
“Spacing out again?” Alec inquired when he saw Jerson had fallen again in his pool thoughts for the fifth time. Alec leaned his back on the couch before he threw the document on the table. “All the documents you ask for are compiled in that folder.” Alec looked Jerson in his eye and continued, “Are you sure you’ll continue? You could just drop out.” Alec examined the whole room and found out that the interior design hadn't changed even one bit. With Jerson’s preferences, this was just as Alec expected it to be. Jerson didn’t like changing the floor plans of his room. Jerson would instead stick at the current than adapt to the new one. He’d say his most used iconic line: “Too troublesome.” Indeed, it is true that adapting to change is problematic yet mandated especially to businesses as they wouldn’t grow and survive if they
Clandestine Affair, book 1 of Affair Duology, is finally completed! This is the first novel I’ve completed so far and it is a long and hard journey as procrastination always gets the best of me. I enjoyed writing this and I will start writing book 2 of the Affair Duology as soon as I finished editing and revising book 1. All the revelations will be revealed and explained in the second book. If you came to hate Vishnu in the first book, his actions would be justified (I hope so) in the second book. Also, book 2 will include stories of our side characters. I hope you support and love the second book as much as you do in the CA.That's all! We’ll see each other in the second book, readers. Love lots!
KIERSONI always liked Vishnu and I always will. Obviously, I don't know where it all started. Is it when our first argument happened?Or was it when he saw me jump at the school wall because I was planning to cut classes and he reported it to the principal?Did I fall deeper when we were arguing all the time and chances we had? Am I already whipped when we became friends?Did I fall too hard?Maybe I did. No… I am certain. I did fall harder. It would always be a painful yet happy memory of when my grandfather sent Derrick Emerson to me. I was enthusiastic for Derrick to meet my friends. I was happy when they became close. All those happy memories when I was in high school were with them. I was happy because I am with them…“Jerson,” Vishnu called me. I lazily looked at him as I raised my brows. “What?” I asked. Vishnu smiled cheekily and he squeezed my cheeks. “Guess what? I like someone!”I faked a smile. Of course, I know who it was. “Derrick, was it?” I asked. Though, I was s
“An apology without litigation is just manipulation, Vishnu. Remember this day. You killed this man… you said that you want him dead… and his death was your fault.”Vishnu aggressively shook his head as he clenched his fist while kneeling down. Kierson was really dead and he saw it with his own eyes. Kierson died and it was all his fault. “It’s just funny to see how this man could easily forgive you after everything you’ve done to him. From how you’ve pushed him into his insanity in your senior days up to how you chose Derrick five years ago, and still choose Derrick after neglecting him even though that means he’ll die. Isn’t it worse than dying? Yes?”Every word served as a dagger that pierced his heart. Vishnu grabbed his chest as he felt like his heart was clenching. The scene where Kierson was lying down with his blood on the ground was piercing a hole through his soul. The feeling was unpleasant. The void in his heart kept on getting bigger. Darkness started to invade him. Va
Kierson was all tied up. Valenn was dragging him out of the mansion while Leon and Harvey were on their back — following them. The whole mansion was a hodgepodge. The shattered glasses caused by the bullets were scattered around. Most of the artifacts were broken. The paintings were hanging down and the chairs and tables were turned over. Harvey, Valenn, and Leon were wearing masks like a criminal. “Stop dragging! I can walk!” Kierson shouted. “We would want to let go because of your weight but it wouldn’t be believable if I let you walk there by yourself unscathed,” Leon replied. Kierson’s eyes twitched. “What the hell are you planning?”Valenn tsked. “I know that you’re still hoping for Vishnu to have a change of heart, Kierson. Before everything else, I’ll have to wake you from your delusions.”“Are you kidding me? Untie me! Pronto!” Kierson struggled and tried to free himself from Valenn's grasp. He was also continuously cursing at them but the three didn’t mind.“Gag his mou
Kierson began finding some clues and documents related to Alex Ferrer in his grandfather’s office. He rummaged through the whole room. From the old man's desk, the cabinets, and the shelves but unfortunately, he could not find anything. Everything was a mess as he nearly turned the whole room upside-down. Kierson sighed and sat on the floor. He wiped his wet palm on his handkerchief. He wiped his beads of sweat and sat on the couch near the table. Gladly, he was okay. The abnormal sweating stopped. His heart rate came back to normal. It was as if his anxiety episode never happened. Fortunately, he overcame it without somebody’s help. He came over it without the help of his psychiatrist. Kierson stared at the ceiling as he pondered Alex Ferrer’s possible logical reasons for ruining everyone’s life. Alex Ferrer is the reason for all of these twists and turns that ruined most people’s lives.Kierson wished to know everything. “Just why the fuck was Alex Ferrer keep on pestering us?
“What do you want?” Derrick asked. “You’re unexpectedly more helpful and more receptive to cooperating with us than I thought,” Kier asserted. Derrick rolled his eyes. “Just tell me what you want… ask me what you want to know. I have nothing to hide anyway,” he urged. “You’re boring,” Kier commented as he plopped on the seat in front of Derrick. Derrick chuckled. “I get that a lot.”Kier turned his head and slanted his back against the backrest of his chair. He pressed his lips and stared at Derrick. Seeing Derrick up close, he could not condemn Vishnu. There was no doubt that Vishnu really took Kierson to be a substitute for his lover. No matter what angle, Kierson, and Derrick really have similarities in terms of facial features and height. It was like Kierson was more of an Emerson than a Ferrer. Eye color and innate autocratic aura aside, Kierson didn’t get the Ferrers traits. Kier sighed and said, “What do you know about Alex Ferrer?”Derrick tilted his head. “Beats me. Th
“Harvey escaped,” Kier reported as soon as he entered Kierson's office. Kierson clenched his jaw as he put down all the pictures signifying that Alec Ferrer was the new Police Chief. That means that in order to get that position, Alex Ferrer had to brutally kill, his younger brother, Harold Ferrer. Alex was the one who killed Kierson’s grandfather and with Wayne Emerson’s aid, Alex Ferrer managed to kill Noah’s parents and his parents. But how did Wayne Emerson meet Alex Ferrer and what pushed Alex Ferrer to go this far?Why does Wayne Emerson desperately want to kill Kierson? What was Noah’s reason for engaging with the Empresí and joining hands with Wayne Emerson? What made the Empresarium obscure all the underworld's crimes? Why does the Avialanché want to kill all the criminals? What stirred up all of these problems?Kierson couldn’t possibly answer those questions. As he, himself, was just merely a pawn. An ignorant pawn who was scrambling according to the players’ method.H
“Kier was drugged, Kierson. I don’t know how it happened but when I came back, I just saw him in a drunken state,” Harvey explained. “Jane Draco’s body was already missing and Valenn was found unconscious inside. He was injected with propofol.” Harvey looked at Kierson’s eyes with his knitted brows. “Vishnu and Derrick had already left after you left and I haven’t seen the suspect.”Kierson furrowed his brows. “Have you talked to Valenn? Does he know who the suspect is?” he asked. Harvey pressed his lips. “That’s what makes it more strange. He said it was your mother, Clementine.”“What?!” Kierson exclaimed. “My parents are both dead. Is he serious?!”“That’s right, Kierson. Unless your grandfather lied to you or someone was using your parent's face,” he mumbled. “What about Kier? Is he okay?” Kierson inquired. “He’s okay. I guess?"Jerson nodded and stared at the cutlery on the small table. There were also pipes and on the other table were pliers and scissors. The same day after
A man so lost finally ruined his home. Even after dismissing Kio Bourner, Kierson couldn’t get those words out of his head. He was thinking about it over and over again. What happened that made Alex Ferrer hate the Ferrer family so much? What did Alex do to make the Ferrer household hate him? Why do things keep on getting worse? Why do these things find no end?Kierson immediately called Harvey and told them to wait in the Ferrer’s estate. He had to find Alex Ferrer. He knows that Wayne Emerson wasn’t the mastermind of all of this trouble, but what he didn’t expect was that it was his grandfather's older brother. He didn’t even know that Harold Ferrer has an older brother. No one told him about Alex Ferrer. Not his parents. Not his grandfather. They only knew how to keep Kierson in the dark. Arriving at his estate, everyone in the patrol hurriedly runs toward him. “What happened?” Kierson asked with his brows furrowed. One of his people out of breath retorted, “The Oliveira bro
