Hailey’s POV
What woke me up was the sound of something scratching at my door. I sat up in fright as I felt my way around the bed, then to the bedside table until I was able to get what I was looking for, the lamp’s switch, and after successfully turning it on, I glanced around the room, squinting as the golden hue casted by the lamp brightened the once dark space. But the scratching sound didn’t stop. Now, it was safe to say that I was immensely scared. My body shook as I slowly got up from bed and tiptoed towards the door. Normally, I knew that I shouldn’t even be going there. Hell, I was in a house full with people I knew nothing about, and people I was sure didn’t like me one bit, and for all I knew, this could be a ploy, a way to get me out of bed, to open this door and only God knows what next was meant to happen. These thoughts made me halt my movements and with wide eyes, I continued to stare at the thick wooden door as the scratching continued, it even began to grow louder as the seconds passed. At this point, my heart was in my chest… in my mouth even, and the only thoughts flying through my head were negative ones. My fight or flight instinct kicked in but deep down, I knew that I could only run. I could not fight. I was not experienced and even a trained kid could easily take me out. A sudden scream tore through my chapped lips when the scratching turned into a bang. Then another, and another. Whoever or whatever was behind my door didn’t stop pounding against it and I on the other hand was too scared to do anything. Hell, I couldn’t even move. Just when I had begun to hyperventilate, a small voice called out to me. It was surprisingly feminine and sounded almost as scared as I was; “Hailey….” She said, causing my eyes to widen in fear. “Hailey?” The small feminine voice called out again and this time I blinked in horror. How was that- “…please could you open the door? I'd like to speak to you. It’s Savannah!” Savannah? For a moment, I went blank. I couldn’t even remember who the hell Savannah was. It took me a moment to remember the rather harsh young lady I had run into some days ago. The one who showed unadulterated hatred for me and the one who had silently promised to make my life a living hell. What the fuck was she doing here then? And why does she sound so… soft? I knew her to be someone who was as loud as a banshee, so hearing her talk this way, especially knowing that it was I and not Hades she was talking to, made me curious. “Hailey?” Her voice called out again, “I know you can hear me and I know that you’re awake, I just need to talk…” her voice trailed off as she choked on her saliva. And then when I thought that that was all, she began to sob. My eyes bulged. “Can we talk tomorrow?” I shot back, feeling quite uncomfortable. I had hoped that she would listen to me and leave but to my surprise, she didn’t. She remained there as she continued to scratch against the door. I groaned. “What do you want?” “To talk!” She shouted back and if I didn’t know better, I would’ve thought that she was harmless and that I could trust her, but I knew better. And I sure as hell didn’t trust her one bit. While deep down, I knew that I shouldn’t be doing this, especially after seeing the kind of person that she was, I couldn’t help it. Something about her tears called out to me. Maybe it was due to how sad she sounded… or how her voice kept breaking… or just how she refused to leave, but I found myself sympathizing with her. Pity was the only emotion I felt as I walked over to the door and pried it open and once again, I was reminded of how small I was when her full frame towered over me. “It took you so long.” She muttered as she brushed her way past me into the room. The light in the room was so dim but it was enough for me to see her tear streaked face. It was enough for me to make out how red and puffy her eyes were and how blotchy her nose was, and worst of all, it was enough for me to see the devilish smirk plastered across her insanely beautiful face. She sauntered over to me and while I couldn’t really see what she held in one of her hands, the way she smiled at me made me realize that it was something I wouldn’t even want to see. I realized then that I shouldn’t even have opened the door to her in the first place but now, it was too late. I had already done the deed and now, the only thing I should be worried about was how to escape her wrath. I watched her with eagle eyes as she went over to sit by the bed and with her legs crossed over the other, looking like the perfect depiction of a Barbie doll in her sheer nightie, she looked harmless but I knew that it was a facade, especially as my bedside lamp had managed to shine a not-so-little amount of light to the shiny metallic object in her hands, the one she was trying so hard to hide from me. “It’s late at night,” I said softly, “what are you doing here?” “Like I said earlier, I came to talk.” She bit back spitefully, “…to YOU.” “What about?” “Hades.” She replied and somehow, something about that one worded response filled me with more than enough fear than I could have imagined. I began to panic and then, my body began to shake with something else, something that was a little bit more than just rage and fear when she eagerly pulled out the shiny object from beneath the sleeve of her silky nightie and I realized that it was a dagger. “What about him?” I asked, managing to sound in a way that was the complete opposite to how I felt; brave. “Nothing.” Savannah drawled, “…only that I suspect that you’ve been trying to seduce him ever since you came here.” “I haven’t!” I matter exasperatedly, “I don't even care about him.” “So how do we explain why he no longer has my time? How would ‘you’ explain why he appears to be occupied with something every fucking minute of the fucking day and he no longer gives a shit about me… ME, his FIANCÉE!” She snarled, baring her teeth and for the first time since she stepped into this room, I was suddenly reminded of the reason I had promised to be as far away from her as possible. She was devious. As she continued to shout and scream, raining curses on me and accusing me of ‘snatching’ Hades’ attention from her, I sought means to escape. This girl was obviously bigger than I was, and no one even needed to check us both to know who the stronger one was. She was athletic and had enough muscle mass while I, on the other hand, was nothing but flesh, weak muscles and weak lungs. I shook my head. “I really have nothing to do with Hades.” I said softly but she wasn’t having any of that. I watched as she stood up and my heart began to race. When she sauntered over to me whilst twirling the knife in her hands, I knew that I had begun trembling by then, and from the proud smile on her face, I knew that she had seen through my facade, she knew that I was afraid and I hated that. In the blink of an eye, she grabbed a chunk full of my hair and I winced as the pain shot through my scalp, causing tears to immediately spring into my eyes. “What are you doing?” I rasped out, almost croaking as she brought the knife to my neck. Earlier, when I had seen her with it, I felt that she had brought it in order to look mean, to appear scary and I had no idea that she intended to use it until now, now that she had it pressed into my neck so hard that a trail of my blood that begun to seep out of the open cut she had managed to inflict on me. From the way the wound sizzled, I instantly realized that the blade was either silver or laced with it, and the thought of having her holding something as dangerous as that against me filled me with so much fear, I was certain that I would soon shit my pants. She was however about to drive it even further into my skin when the door was suddenly pushed open and Hades stepped in. His eyes were wild and angry and when they landed on me, I could swear that I saw fear flash in them for a nanosecond before he clamped it down and growled; “SAVANNAH!” Savannah stopped to glare at him. She giggled like a schoolgirl and as if to rile him up even further, she plunged it in, causing me to gargle as blood oozed out of the cut. Then she let me go, smiling as I fell to the floor, choking in my own blood.Hailey’s POVIt all happened so fast. One minute I was shitting my pants, scared as Savannah pressed the blade to my neck and the next minute, she was plunging it in. I have no idea if she had intended for it to go this deep but it had and now, I was choking on my own blood with my hands wrapped around my neck, in a silly excuse to stop the blood flow.I could hear screams, angered shouts and curious questions, and from the way I was soon attacked by the scent of two utterly sweet but strong male scents, I instantly knew that Trent and Chad had joined us. Someone’s arms were wrapped around my body but I had no idea who it was, however, I was sure that it was Trent or Chad, because I was certain that it wasn’t Hades. Hades was utterly pissed, so pissed that right now, even in this state, I could see how his hands were around Savannah’s neck as he hoisted her off the floor.More shouts. More screams… that was all I heard as the world around me began to shift. Everything became blurry, a
~Hades’ POV~I woke up with a start, to the sound of gunshots all around us. In a panic, I rolled out of my bunk bed, shook my two brothers awake, and waited impatiently for Chad who rubbed his eyes sleepily.“What is it, brother?” This time it was Trent who asked. I threw him a look of confusion but before I could reply, another gunshot rang through the night. This one was louder than the last and sounded so close to us. As if on cue, a loud painful cry was heard shortly afterwards. It tore through the silence, piercing my soul. Good enough, Chad stopped rubbing his eyes as he was now wide awake. His dark green orbs were as round as saucers as he stared at me and in a fierce whisper, he asked; “What was that? A gunshot? What do we do?!”I was scared. I had no answers to his questions and worst of all, I was just as clueless as he was. One of the things that bothered me the most was the fact that amidst all the chaos happening, our parents were nowhere to be found.I snapped; “let’
*19 Years later*~Hades’ POV~I woke up in an exceptionally good mood today. The first thing I saw when I got up was the beauty beside me in bed. Her soft auburn hair cascaded down her head, shielding her face like a veil. I watched her for a moment, reveling in the bliss that came with having her around. She was Savannah, my fiancée and she was just perfect.Almost as soon as I awoke, Savannah stirred in her sleep. She slowly fluttered her eyes open and when she caught me staring at her, she smiled. “Good morning, baby,” She drawled sleepily, and I smiled, placing a soft kiss on her lush surgically enhanced lips. She regarded me with a grin and bristled when I gently caressed her face. “Good morning, beautiful,” I greeted back before strutting off to my bathroom for a warm shower.I was halfway into my shower when I heard my phone ring. I frowned; “Who’s it?” I yelled out to Savannah. “Baby, it’s Winifred!” She replied and just like that, my mood was deflated.I was half expecting
~Hailey’s POV~I stood quietly as the chains around my wrists were unclasped and carelessly dropped to the floor. I still felt a little dizzy though from the after-effects of the drug they had injected me with earlier to prevent me from escaping but now that I felt slightly better, I struggled.“What’re you trying to do?” I asked in frustration when I felt the bulky guy replace the cuffs around my wrist with a dog leash, and instead of giving a reasonable answer to my question, he pushed me forward, out of the room, and into a dark corridor.“I am proud of you.” I heard him say to me, but I kept my mouth shut, unsure of the reason he would even be proud of me in the first place.Mistaking my silence for curiosity, he continued, “Do you know how much that young King paid to have you? He paid a whopping sum of twenty million dollars!” He said excitedly. At his statement, I turned to stare at him in shock. Why would anyone pay that unreasonable amount of money to have me?Ignoring the s
~Hailey’s POV~I woke up with a start. It took me a moment to realize that I had fallen asleep on the floor of the room I had been assigned to earlier and that I had been having an erotic dream there. A blush crept up my face, burning my cheeks in embarrassment as memories of the dream flooded my head.I had seen myself crying, whimpering, and writhing under Mr Hades’ huge sweat-slicked frame. His fingers had glided across my skin, lighting a wildfire across the surface of my skin, numbing me, soothing my soul, but lighting me with a special kind of flame altogether.I had closed my eyes, reveling in the wild sensations pulsating through my veins, and winced slightly when a drop of his sweat dropped onto my face. His warm mouth had circled my breast, sucking, licking, gnawing until I was dissolved in a pool of dripping wetness.I brought my fingers down slowly between my thighs and sighed in confusion when I felt a wetness down there. Was it a dream? Was it real? I really didn’t know
Hailey’s POV “What is your name?” The guy, Chad asked me while the other stood behind him with the ghost of a smile dancing across his lips. I looked up at them but said nothing. Deep down, I contemplated not answering them at all but one look at Hades had me opening my mouth immediately. I rushed out; “Hailey, my name is Hailey.” “Beautiful name, Hailey,” Chad continued and this time, both Hades and the other man scoffed in disbelief. “Brother, you never told us about a woman,” the other who had been quiet the entire time said, and while he did, his eyes never left my body even for once. “So who is she? And why does she smell like a rogue?” The way they regarded me was so disrespectful; it was almost as if they had decided that I was not in the room with them even though I was, and it made me so uncomfortable that I stepped further away from them. If it was possible, I would’ve ran back into the bathroom but I couldn’t. Knowing how unfortunate I was, they would catch me even
Hailey’s POV He didn’t say a word and neither did I as the pretty blonde staff served the food on the table, and then bowed to him before muttering; “Alpha, your food is served now, you may eat.” Hades dismissed the girl then but that is after he threw another pointed look at me. It was obvious that he knew I had lied about the food just to get the girl here but he said nothing until she had walked out of the room. Then he turned to the door too, but just as I thought that he was about to leave, he fastened the door’s lock, threw the key into his pocket then dipped his hands into the same pocket as he leaned against the door to glare at me. “What did you try to do earlier?” He drawled in that low seductive voice of his that always managed to get me wet. “And why were you trying to attack me?” As the questions left his lips, all I could do was shake my head because I knew that no amount of explanation could make excuses for what I had intended to do. I couldn’t because I was nothing but a slave to them, a slave looking for means to escape this hell and if I must, then I had to ensure that I did nothing to spark their interest or attention. While Hades and Chad argued about claiming ownership of me, my eyes trailed to the quiet one at the back, Trent. Hades’ POVIT was past midnight and I still couldn’t sleep. Now, as I stared out the window into the dark bushes that surrounded my pack house, I couldn’t help but think about my prisoner, my new slave, Hailey. It has been a routine for me since the past few days as she was all I could think of, all my brothers could think of, and while I sought for ways to help them stop obsessing over her, I realized to my own disappointment that I had also begun to obsess over her.And I hated it.My face was contorted into a frown and my arms folded over my chest as I looked out, as if expecting some miracle intervention, something, just anything that could help me out of this dilemma, but I found none. Another thing that bothered me immensely was the fact that she said she couldn’t remember a thing, she could remember nothing about her past, her parents… Hell, she said she couldn’t even remember her pack! And boy, I struggled with believing that.I was still so lost in thoughts that I didn’t rea
Hailey’s POV“You know she’s not meant to be touched,” Chad stated in a matter of fact tone as he stepped into the room, and all the while, his eyes never left my face.I dropped my head and fisted my sweaty hands into my dress and while he spoke, I tried not to pay any attention to him because my heart was beating so fast, and I was trying so hard to calm the raging organ. “Do we have to follow Hades' rules all the time?” Trent answered, sounding pissed. He opened his mouth as if to continue but before he could get the words out of his mouth, Chad beat him to it. Chad snapped;“It’s not about following rules. This is his slave… he bought her.”“And she’s my mate.”“She’s also my mate too but you don’t see me trying to jump her or do you?” Chad spat, which immediately made Trent seal his mouth shut.I couldn’t look up. I couldn’t look at any of them, especially after knowing what I would find. Trent would be looking sorry and would have regret painted all over his face and Chad, Chad
Hailey’s POVI stood rooted to the spot, contemplating whether I should leave or stay back like Trent had asked me to. Hades’ anger made me hesitant and truth be told, he was the only triplet I was immensely afraid of.When wouldn’t move or wouldn’t turn back to them, Savannah scoffed. I didn’t need to see her face to know that she was rolling her eyes. With her excessively fake high-pitched voice, she exclaimed; “Hades baby, please let’s go. I have no idea why your brother has taken a likeness to the slave.”The room fell deathly silent after that. It was as if her comment was the one thing that had finally broken the Camel’s back. I turned around then, just in time to see Hades pull his arm aggressively out of her hold. He stepped back, away from her, and without sparing her even the smallest glance, he drawled; “You should leave. I need to talk to my brother and the slave.”“But Hades..?”“Leave!” He bellowed and I could swear that I felt the walls shake from the intensity of his v
Hailey’s POVThe next few days flew past, literally. Fortunately, the triplets were nowhere to be seen and even though their absence made me feel a bit peaceful, I still couldn’t help but wonder what they were up to. Most of all, I was worried as to what they may have in store for me the next time we met and trust me, none of the things I could imagine were good. Today, for the first time in a long time, I went downstairs, because I was bored, to the hallway and again, I was hit with the initial shock I felt when I saw that portrait for the first time. The portrait of a younger version of me.Something like bile rose up in my throat while I stared at it and a shudder ran up my spine at the thought. What if the child was me and Hades wasn’t lying? If so, then why was a portrait of me hung here with the most gruesome scene painted as its background?I was so lost in these thoughts that I did not notice the sound of footsteps approaching me. However, when I realized, it was too late and
