006 Stunned

Ava's Pov

It's been one hell of a boring weekend for me. Emilia seemed to have disappeared on me again.

As I shrugged back to the backseat of the taxi, my thoughts spirals around, I reflected on how things I've been lately.

I recalled how happy I was when Damien asked me out, the few early months of our relationship was blissful but then he changed even though he wouldn't admit it.

He switched up on me, more like I couldn't recognize the man I fell in love with, he's distant, hardly checks up on and most importantly he cared less.

I've seen all the red flags but for some reason I was still holding onto our happy moment. Hoping he would realize how much I'm hurting from his actions.

I snapped back to reality when the driver notified me that we had arrived to my apartment.

I had gone for grocery shopping. Perhaps that would help keep my mind afloat.

I flashed the driver a warm smile, handing him a few dollars notes, and carrying the things I got from the mall to my apartment door.

As I looked down to get my key from my purse, my eye caught a glimpse of a gift box, by the side of my door.

I was taken aback for a moment, wondering if it might be a mistaken address or something.

Curiosity got the better part of me as I picked up the box. There's was a short note on it, with the description. "I'm sorry Ava,"

Then, it dawned on me that it was actually for me. "Could this be from Damien?" I retorted inwardly.

"Yes," I gasped, a smile spreading across my face.

I felt weird though. "Damien has never gifted me, and judging from the box the gift came with, it was designers. Damien couldn't possibly afford this," I reasoned.

But then on a second thought. He might have actually gone out of his way to apologize to me.

If so then, the change I've been longing has actually started.

As I packed the groceries in the kitchen, I went back to the living room.

I unwrapped the box and there it was. A branded bag that must've cost a fortune.

Getting nervous, I picked up my phone happily and dialed Damien's number. It rang twice but he didn't pick up.

I decided to drop a text.

As I typed in the message, my face beamed. "Thank you baby, I got the gift,"

I dropped my phone on the table. Scanning the bag with so much happiness.

Surprisingly, Damien texted back almost immediately. "What gift?"

"Uhmm, nevermind. How are you?" I typed back. I waited for him to reply but he didn't.

As I leaned back into the couch, my thoughts raced.

My brows furrowed. "If this gift wasn't from Damien. Then who sent it?"

Getting nervous. I decided to pack up the gift and keep it till I get a hold of the person that sent it.

As I packed it up, a thought kept lingering in my head. Could my father have sent this?

No. I doubt that, I can't remember my father being that sweet.

Wanting to get over the nonstop curiosity hovering over me, I decided to bury myself in something else.

I picked up my laptop, sending emails to potential companies I would love to work with.

Around midday, there was still no response from any of these companies.

Exasperated. I closed my laptop and got busy with my daily house chores. The constant silence from these companies are beginning to choke me.

I mean my credentials are excellent. But most of the owners of these companies seemed more interested in my body rather than what I can offer to the company.

After I lost my last job. I had given up on physical interviews because all the damn bosses seems to be ogling me whenever I walked into their offices.

***Flash back to months ago….

"Ava Vasquez?" the secretary called.

I flashed her a warming smile as I walked to her desk.

"You may go in," she retorts, returning my smile.

I took a deep breath, hoping this one wouldn't turn out like every other assholes I've met during several interviews.

I cracked the door open and walked in.

At first, he looked busy on his laptop. But when he looked up and saw me, his eyes flickers.

"Sit," he managed to say after a while. His gaze making me uncomfortable.

"Can I have your Cv?" he said, a knowing smirk plastered on his face.

"Sure," I said, shifting my credentials to him and at the same time, avoiding his gaze as much as I can.

"Hmm, this looks good," he praised, making me to face him.

"Really," I asked, my eyes gleaming. Alas, someone sees my potentials.

"Yes, this is excellent. But…" he said and paused.

The smile on my face falters as I adjusted myself on the chair.

"Just an excellent credentials can't earn you this job. But," he said, his face registers a smirk. "Of course you can have the job if you do the needful," he said, standing up from his chair and walking towards me.

Getting the hint, my mind flickers. "The needful?" I asked, feigning ignorance, I was hoping I could get the job.

"Yes. I mean, you have all it takes in abundance to get yourself this job in a reputable company with a well paid salary only if you play your cards well," he remarked, his hand caressing my thighs as he moved closer.

Irritated, I sprang up in anger. "Stop it," I shouted. My whole body trembles with anger as I glared at him.

He smirked, still moving closer to me. "Hey, calm down pretty," he said. "Just a night and you'd get the job I promise,"

"You can shove your dick down your throat, you asshole," I thundered, picking up my file.

I heard him calling after me but without looking back I stormed out of his asshole.

I sighed. Just another asshole!

*****End Of Flash Back******

My phone beeps with a notification from F******k..

I clicked on it and to my surprise it was Sarah, our neighbor back in the days I lived with my aunt.

"Hey Ava, Longest time, is me Sarah, I've been looking all over social media for you. Good thing I found you!"

My face beamed with excitement, I had lost all my contacts after my aunt died.

Sarah and I used to be very close back then.

I leaned slightly as I typed back.

Maybe I won't end up having a boring day after all.
