Chapter 1
Kaia’s POV
I raised my hand and knocked in the door, the sound echoing through the silence. The door creaked open and Aiden's piercing gaze locked unto mine.
“Did anyone see you coming?" He asked, looking behind me to make sure we didn't have company.
"No, Alpha.” My voice sounded tired, having cleaned the dishes of over a hundred pack members after dinner. I knew I was a mess but he didn't give me enough time to freshen up.
“You’re late.” He growled, his voice low and tough, after he was completely sure we were alone.
I swallowed hard. “I'm sorry," I whispered, moving back but he was fast. He reached out and grasped my wrist, his nails digging into them making me wince.
He released me once he saw the look on my face. I knew better than to complain after what happened the previous day when I tried to come out all tough.
“We have to be fast, Brianne is going to be up soon and I don't want her wondering where I am.” He said, already working on the belt of the trouser he had on.
I nodded, biting back my response. It was already bad enough that my mate was embarrassed to announce me as his, but listening to him go on about his chosen mate isn't exactly a turn on when he was about to have sex with me…and only because his wolf needed me.
“Yes, Alpha." I muttered, but I knew he heard me because he nodded.
He got to work, taking off every piece of clothing I had on. According to him, I didn't have to enjoy it as long as his wolf was satisfied. So I tried as much as possible to bite back my moan when I felt him inside me.
“Don't make me wait next time.” He warned, giving me one last kiss on my lips and he was gone, leaving me alone in the storage room. The door creaked shut behind him and I was plunged into darkness. I rested against the door, trying to catch my breath.
“How did I even get here?" I thought.
Just like every other unmated female in the Blue Moon pack, Aiden, our Alpha was a breath of fresh air. His warm brown eyes and charming smiles could sweep anyone off their feet. I wasn't left out.
I've had a crush on him for as long as I could remember. I was nine years old and had just experienced my first panic attack. I had been so scared thinking I was going to die but somehow, even at eleven years old, he knew exactly how to calm me down. Ever since then, what I would give to catch a glimpse of his smile.
But unlike everyone else that would rather wait for their mate because of their conceived idea of the fairytale. Not me, mates are overrated. Just the moon goddess's way of entertaining herself since she was a bored old woman.
So I took the bold step in confessing my feelings for him and the look on his face when I told him would forever haunt me. For weeks, I was the only topic being spoken about…a greedy Omega whose mom didn't love her enough to stay alive.
But imagine my shock when the day I turned eighteen, his wolf recognized me as his mate. And although I didn't get my wolf, the spark when he touched me was undeniable.
“What did I do that was so wrong?" I thought. “Not wanting a mate to avoid having the same fate as my mom who died after being rejected for being weak?"
I must've dozed off, because the next time I opened my eyes, the room was brighter. And panic kicked in.
Brianne was going to kill me if I messed her big day up. Aiden was announcing her to the pack members as his mate, making her Luna officially. I can definitely see her asking for my head for her first order as Luna.
I hurried out of the room, hoping to the goddess that they were all asleep. But even that prayer wasn't answered…the moon goddess surely knows how to hold a grudge.
“What do you think you're doing?” My step brother, Dylan asked, his tone firm but curious. That was never a good combination.
“I uhm…. I'm getting ready for today.” I lied.
His eyes narrowed at me, trying to call me out on my lie. I looked everywhere but at him.
As the Beta of the pack, he was trained to be suspicious of everyone and everything. But I was a special case. Ever since my dad married his mom, he made a special effort in making sure I felt like shit. I wasn't his family…he made sure I never forgot for a second.
“Why do you smell like the Alpha?" His voice was cold, sending shivers down my spine.
“He'll kill me before Brianne does."
I moved back, my body trembling and with each step I took, he followed me. “Answer me, Kaia." He snarled, his wolf coming to the surface.
“He wanted to make sure I was working on Brianne's surprise."
"Try again, and this time think about your response.” His eyes were shooting daggers at me and I knew he'd caught me. And he would not hesitate to throw me against the wall…it wouldn't be the first time that was happening.
“He…wanted…” I stammered, feeling water welled up in my eyes. And for a flash moment, I saw his hard exterior drop but it was back up as soon as it came.
“Let her be.” Aiden commanded, using his Alpha tone. The both of us lowered our neck in submission.
"Yes, Alpha.” Dylan said.
Excusing myself, I hurried out of their sight before Aiden changed his mind. I took a quick shower before anyone else smelled the Alpha on an omega like me.
Once I was done, I picked out the most presentable dress I own, then put my hair in a ponytail. As much as I loved my curly hair, taking care of it isn't a walk in the park. Then I took my drugs from where I kept them on the nightstand. Today was going to be stressful, and I didn't trust myself to not have a panic attack.
The kitchen was busy, everyone was running around to make sure the day went smoothly.
“What part of I don't want to see any wrinkles on my dress do you not get?” Brianne yelled, entering the kitchen, her voice dripping with venom.
“What can you do right?"
No one paid attention to her, at this point, it was a normal morning for them.
“I'm sorry, Brianne. I wasn't paying attention." I apologized.
“It's Luna to you, Omega!" She snapped, her eyes turned black for a moment, her wolf coming out.
"I'm sorry, Luna.”
"Get it done and do it right this time.” She said, before stomping out of the kitchen, leaving me to calm my racing heart.
I hated being weak and on the receiving side of everyone but without my wolf, there was nothing I could do. I wasn't allowed to train because according to them, it was a waste of time.
A few of the other Omega who saw the whole thing shot me sympathetic looks but no one said anything. They didn't want to be labeled with me, so they wouldn't be subjected to the same fate as me.
I hurried to her room, the one she shared with Aiden. There was no one in the room and the dress was sitting on the bed. I carried it as carefully as I could to avoid making it worse. The ceremony would be starting in less than two hours and there were still other things to be done.
But just as I turned to leave, the door opened, revealing a fully dressed Aiden. He looked so good and I felt a tug in my chest. By the end of the day, he would belong to another woman, marking her as his mate.
“Did you dress up for me? Of course you did, you're mine." His eyes darkened possessively.
"I'll leave you to get ready, Alpha.”
"Call me Jager." He sounded hoarse, but much softer than Aiden.
“Jager.” I called gently, and he let out a moan, reaching to touch me. My body relaxed into his touch, enjoying every bit of his gentleness even though my mind was a warzone of everything I was doing wrong.
"Aiden should listen to me. We're strong, we just need our mate." His hand caressed my skin, sending warm feelings I didn't know was possible to feel. He sniffed my neck where his mark was supposed to be.
“Fuck! I'm getting hard just thinking of the things I want to do with you.” I smiled, pleased that he was satisfied with me. I knew it wasn't Aiden, but I was basking in the attention Jager was giving me.
But that soon changed.
“What thef uck is going on here?" Brianne growled, her paws extending and before I knew it, I was flying across the room.
Chapter 2 Kaia's POV I bite back a groan as my body hits the wall. My back throbbing in pain. Brianne was still throwing daggers at me from where she stood beside Aiden, trying to make sure he was okay. Resisting the urge to roll my eyes, I slowly got to my feet, assessing the damage caused by my sudden flight. My dress was torn and from the pain on my back, it wasn't hard to tell that a bruise was forming there. “You bitch! How dare you put your filthy hands on me!” Aiden snarled, his wolf was nowhere to be found. I'm done, my hands were trembling on their own. “I'm s-sorry. I don't know what came over me." I apologized, tears streaming down my face. "I knew you were up to no good when I saw you in that dress." Brianne sneered, "You never learn, do you?" She spat, her eyes bulging. I shook my head, nothing I said to her would prove that I wasn't just making up stories to get out of the trouble I knew was inevitable. I'm sure Aiden knew the truth and his words were
Chapter 3 Kieran's POV "Remind me again why I need to see a rogue?" I asked Caleb, my Beta, my voice sounding tired from being in a meeting all day combined with my Lycan’s restlessness. “Because you're the Alpha and we need you to decide what to do with her." "What's there to decide? She's a rogue. Did she talk?” I asked. He shook his head. “Not a word. Ryder suggested waiting for you. She was in a bad state when we brought her in.” I nodded and followed him towards the dungeon. A rogue entering our land wasn't a new thing. But over the last few years after I became Alpha, their attack became less frequent and I wanted to keep it like that. As a pack, we took pride in making sure that our members were safe at all times. “Let's get this over with." I thought. Dealing with rogues was definitely my least favorite part of the day. As I approached the cell, my Lycan grew even more restless. He began to jump and dance around my head in excitement. "Mate,
Chapter 4 Kaia's POV As soon as the words left my lips, I regretted it. His piercing blue eyes were nowhere to be found, instead his wolf forced its way to the surface. I curled myself on the bed, bracing for rejection. For Kieran to tell me that I was right, that he didn't want me as his mate. Instead he moved away from me and out of the door. His footsteps faded down the hallway and I felt a pang of uncertainty. “Why did I have to say anything?" I thought. "Was I going back to the dungeon?” I asked myself since my wolf decided to play hide and seek with me. Since I heard her in the dungeon, I've been trying to call out to her but there was no response and it was killing me. "Why is my life such a tragic story?” I thought. First, I lost the only person who cared about me and then my father married a woman whose son hated my very existence but was also the reason I escaped from my mate who threw me in the dungeon. And now, another Alpha was claiming me as his mate
Kaia's pov "No, no no." My words played in my head again and again as I stared at him, my heart racing. “Did he just…?" "Yes, yes he did!" My wolf danced in excitement in my head, but I was pale with shock, my lips part in surprise. "Why?" I asked, my eyes finally drifted to meet with his blue ones, and my throat felt like there was a huge lump in there. He wore a puzzled look, “Why what?” He asked. He inched closer, and my heart stopped. Maybe he was joking, maybe this was a plan to make me look stupid like Aiden did. “Are you accepting me now so you can reject me later or you just want me close enough because your Lycan needs his mate?” I snapped before I could stop myself. And I have been doing a lot of it lately. Kaieran's eyes squinted a little before returning to their normal size, and creased lines appeared on his forehead. “Of course not, Kaia." My name rolled off his lips softly. “I'm accepting you because you are my mate, the only one who will complete me. Wh
Chapter 6Kieran’s POV “How can someone be so effortlessly beautiful?" I wondered, “all she did was stand and I lost my ability to make a complete sentence without making myself look like an idiot." "With a face and body like that, whoever rejected her is the real idiot.” King's words echoed in my mind and I couldn't help but agree. Whoever he was, did us a favour. But I hated that she had to go through so much pain to become ours. A picture of the bruises on her body crossed my mind and a growl left my lips. “Whoever did that to her was going to pay." My thoughts were interrupted when I got to my chambers where Caleb and Ryder were waiting for me. Their heads snapped to me, confusion written on their faces since it has only been a few minutes since I left. "Alpha, do you need something?” Caleb asked, his brows furrowed. I shook my head and sat on the chair opposite him. The only person who could give me what I wanted was in my room and still isn't sure if she wo
Kaia's POV I groaned, slowly opening my eyes. However, my heart skipped a beat when I noticed Kieran sitting on the bed beside me with his eyes fixed on me. "What the fuck is he doing here?!" I screamed inwardly, trying to steady my breath. He was staring at me, but in a moment, he spoke. "Good morning," his gentle voice rang, and my wolf purred. “I can't believe that even now she was turned on." but I lowered my head, and remained concerned about why he was seated there. "He probably spent the night here. Can't you smell his scent all over the room?" My wolf spoke, but I remained quiet, trying to steady my breath. "He greeted you, don't just stay silent, say something!" My wolf urged, and I instantly shut her up."Stop being pushy!" She kept quiet just as I had told her, and I heaved before raising my eyes to meet his gaze. "G-good morning." Somehow, my response seemed to light him up because he smiled, but it didn't really matter, so I tried to lower my head when
Kaia's POV Dani's energy was unmatched. We ran into a few people…literally and when they complained, she glared at them like it was their fault. As we stepped into the Mall's spacious interior, it felt like we were in a different dimension. People moving around with different agendas. Everyone was talking about on the top of their voice making everywhere a bit noisy but at the same time, peaceful. “We're going to start with dresses and I know just the perfect store." Dani said. I heard Kieran’s voice before I could respond, “hey." He called softly. "Get as many things as you want, okay?” He continued when I turned back. I managed to nod before Dani pulled me away. “With a body like yours, I'm going to enjoy dressing you up.” "I don't…I don't think so." All I heard about my body was how fat I was and how men were going to find me unattractive. And now, in less than a day of knowing me, she'd complimented me more than anyone close to me. “This is going to be perfe
Chapter 9Kaia's POV For a moment, Kieran's entire body froze as my hands came around him, but he soon snapped out of it as he held me closer. I had been so scared that he was going to do something to me. And couldn't be more grateful that Kieran showed up when he did. My chest was beating really fast, like I'd just finished a marathon race. “I'm so sorry, Bella.” Kieran whispered, his breath warm against my ear. His hand tightened around me and I felt a lump form in my throat. I shook my head softly, “it's not your fault.” I told him, my voice barely above a whisper. "I shouldn't have left you by yourself, I'm sorry.” he apologized again. I was going to tell him not to apologize for something he has no control over, but my wolf’s voice stopped me. “He's already beating himself up for not being by your side and King is threatening to cut the man into pieces. You should try to calm him down.” She advised before retreating to the back of my mind. I let go of him s
Chapter 73Kieran's POV My gaze met Dylan's who looked away, bowing his head. King was still distracted from the look Kaia had on her face before she left. He was also wearing a familiar one, even though nothing was said. “I’m going to ask some questions and I need you to answer them because I would not hesitate to throw you back to the dungeon. Do I make myself clear?" My voice firm. "Yes, Alpha.” He replied, "I've told you ever…" he continued, but paused when Caleb glared at him. “How did you hide your scent for that long?” I asked, that seemed like the best place to start. He paused, his eyes widened in confusion as he looked between the three of us. “I had help…ermm.” He trailed off. When he didn't continue, I took slow strides towards him, a smirk playing on my lips. He must think I was here to spend time with him. Caleb passed me a bottle of wolfsbane and once he saw it, his expression faltered, but was back on almost immediately. He then paused, like he w
Chapter 72Kaia's POV Dylan was awake now and compared to the last time I saw him, he looked better. His wolf was slowly healing him and the person I recognized was returning. He didn't say anything as I helped him up, giving him food and water. That was the least I could do at the moment since Kieran has forbidden me from using my powers on him. “Ryder, are you seriously going to stand there all through?" I asked him, my eyebrows raising in disbelief. “Sorry Luna, Alpha's command." He replied. I took a deep breath, “of course he told him." I thought, as I'd already told Kieran, I was going to the child care. Lylah snorted, “your excuse was nothing close to being believable. He just let you go because he knew they would be here." Dylan was sitting with his back resting against the wall, his eyes remaining on mine even, his blue eyes, were a contrast to the dark circles underneath as I spoke to Ryder and then Lylah. “I was wrong," he started, his voice still sou
Chapter 71Caleb's POV “Those bastards!" I thought. They made a mistake coming for my mate just to send a message to me. My footsteps echoed off the wall as I made my way to the dungeon where Dylan was. As much as I'd suggested talking to you about the witches, it doesn't take away the fact that I wanted him to remain in there. “Do you think he’s going to talk?” Ryder asked, walking beside me, his expression unreadable. “That's the last thing ww need to worry about. If i have to cut him open bit by bit for that to happen, then i’m going to do exactly that.” I replied. "No one hurts mate and gets away with it!” My wolf growled. The warriors guarding him bowed when they saw us and moved out of the way. He was sprawled on the floor and the slow rising and falling of his chest being the only indication that he was alive. His body wasn't healing even after the wolfsbane stopped coming. “Open the door." I commanded, moving backwards. “Yes, Beta Caleb." The door s
Chapter 70Kieran's POV “How the fuck did they get inside the pack and no one knew?” I demanded, my voice rising in anger. “There are patrol warriors at the borders, how did they get past them?” Frustration evident on my features. As the strongest pack ever known, I took pride in the safety of my members no matter what, but now, right under my nose, they were hurt. “I don't think they passed through the borders, Alpha.” Ryder said. He was just as frustrated as I was. Dani had gotten hurt, it could be anyone next time. And they had the nerve to even send a message. “You think they were already inside?" "That's the only reasonable explanation for this. I've had the warriors on double shifts since we caught uhmm…Luna's brother.” My head snapped to him, "Step brother.” "Sorry Alpha.” I let out a groan as I was going away from the main topic. If they were already inside, it raises a lot of questions. “Were they also members of my pack or have they been in the pack j
Chapter 69Kaia's POV “Dani!" I yelled. "What's going on, Lylah?” I asked my wolf, my body trembling. "I don't know either, I can sense that something is wrong, that's all.” "Do you know where she is?” I asked again. She didn't reply, instead, she showed me the directions to go. I was running like something was after me, making some of the pack members turn to look at me, but I didn't care as I kept running. Lylah yelled the direction to go which I followed without a word. The more we kept going, the more confusion set in. It wasn't even up to five minutes that she left me but I've been running for over that but she was nowhere to be found. Soon, I was almost at the forest which was far away from the pack house, and closer to the borders. My worry intensified when I still couldn't find her. If we were this close to the borders and her scent had gotten all the way here, “was she still in the Pack?" Shaking the thoughts away, “she has to be." A familiar voice
Chapter 68 Kaia's POV For some reason, I still couldn't stop thinking about Dylan, if he was okay and how he got into the situation in the first place. But telling Kieran was out of it. I barely survived one day with him being mad at me, I'm sure it'd be worse if it happens again. Now that Lylah was back, Kieran was taking active steps to finding out what else Lylah could do apart from healing. He didn't want to assume that all that came up in the records they found was all she could do. Besides, I haven't noticed anything else and I haven't shifted since then either. “What are you thinking so hard about?" Ryder said, sitting beside me on the couch. Kieran had gone with the pack doctor to discuss other details that I definitely wasn't interested in, so I stayed back in his office and so did Ryder. “Nothing," came my sharp reply. “Do you believe that?" My shoulder slumped as I rested my back against the couch. “I don't know. No matter how hard I try, I can't
Chapter 67Kaia's POV Dinner was over and Kieran was nowhere to be found. He'd blocked me out and I couldn't stop pacing around in the room. “This is why you shouldn't block people out, it drives the other party crazy.” I thought and Lylah snickered. At any tiny sound, my head jerks to the door hoping he would enter but there was no such luck. I felt my chest tightened at the thought of something happening to him. Did he run into the shooter again? “Why didn't you tell me if I was going far?" I queried Lylah. She snorted loudly, “You call that far? You went overboard, defying him in front of his members and then you took your step brother's side…do you want more?” "Then why didn't you stop me?” "Would you have stopped if I asked you to?" I kept quiet, she had a point. I had been so concerned about how Dylan was to care about anything else and now, calming down to play everything all over again, I knew that I really have overdone it this time. “Can you reach K
Chapter 66Kieran's POV My meeting with the Alpha's ended, it was the same results. Nobody had heard about that kind of substance before, but I made sure they would keep their eyes open and inform me if they heard anything. Then I went down to the dungeon to see if the prisoner had changed his mind about keeping quiet…he hadn't. Next, I went to have a meeting with the warriors but that didn't end well when different emotions, belonging to Kaia hit me at once. “Are you okay?" I asked her through our mindlink, “your emotions are all over the place." But instead of a response, I felt a wall rising. She'd blocked me. I frowned, “what was going on?" The warriors could tell that something was wrong, but nobody asked me as I hurriedly left the meeting to go in search of her. I ran into Caleb, "Alpha? You're already here?” He asked me, his brows furrowing. He was supposed to be dealing with the other groups -The AXE Running a hand through my hair, I nodded. “Somet
Chapter 65 Kaia's POV “Dylan?" "Dylan!” I called, not wanting to believe that the person who looked almost unrecognizable was the same person I knew. His head jerked upward and he tried standing up when he heard his name, and I was right. My hand covered my mouth as I took in his state. His clothes were torn and covered with blood. Some of which looked like they've been there for a long time. His face was swollen. A faint smell of wolfsbane filled my nostrils, explaining why he wasn't completely healing even as a Beta. “Why are you here? Who did this to you?" I asked, my voice trembling at how bad he looked. "Kaia?” He let out in a horse tone. It was like talking became a struggle for him. Looking at him hurt, like air being sucked out of my lungs. “It's me." I replied, beating my chest softly. “Why are you here?" I asked again, now standing in front of his cell. A strained smile appeared on his face as he took in my appearance. “You're okay." He said, his l
