The next day, Midnight didn't show up. Ryder just couldn't understand why she felt disappointed. Did she really want him to come by? Her thoughts were already in chaos, overthinking about that weird urge to protect a man she didn't know anything about that woke up last night. Why would she harbor such feelings? Ryder wanted to know why but didn't know where to search for the answer.
On the other hand, Jasmine had her own thoughts about this guy that wanted her precious daughter's attention. After Ryder saw Midnight off that Saturday night, Jasmine was waiting for her in her room. Acting as if the room was hers, she had sat right in the middle of the bed, her legs crossed, her elbows resting on her knees and her right hand holding her chin. When Ryder walked inside the room, a chill ran down her spine, feeling like she had just walked into an interrogation room.
Jasmine didn't say anything as her eyes studied carefully the expression on Ryder's face. The fair skin of Ryder had turned red, the bright color had not faded yet. The cognac eyes looked almost scarlet, like two precious rubies. The girl was biting her lip, as she didn't bother to walk farther into the room, but sat on the floor and leaned against the door. Jasmine snorted inwardly: This rascal and her bad habit of sitting on the ground.
"Why are you blushing?" Jasmine asked her casually, but her eyes studied her and mentally noted every twitch of Ryder's lips, every tremble of her eyelashes, or stiffness of her muscles. Jasmine didn't plan on letting her deceive her, whether she was planning on doing it or not.
"I...."
I don't know? She really didn't know, but Jasmine wouldn't let her be.
"You?"
No words came from Ryder. She just stared down at her hands, suddenly feeling miserable. Why the hell did she name that young man after a psychopath from a book? Why didn't he decline? What was all that shit about Ryder looking excited? So what if she looked excited? How does that concern him? The more Ryder thought about it, the more embarrassed she felt. The redness of her face crept down her neck and colored her ears, she looked like a tomato with eyes. How much of their conversation did Midnight hear? Will he think she has a few screws loose? What if she had listened to her talking about Midnight (from the book) being her baby?
OH MY GOD, PLEASE DON'T!!! The shame!!!! The embarrassment!!! Ryder felt like dying.
Seeing that the redness was just getting worse, and Ryder had hidden her face behind her hands as she shook her head furiously, Jasmine couldn't handle this behavior of hers anymore and grabbed the pillow from under the blanket. Using her full force, Jasmine threw the pillow at Ryder's head. The pillow hit her so hard, that Ryder's head flew backward and bumped against the door.
"What the hell are you thinking about, pervert?!"
Snapping out of her thoughts from the strong impact and the pain, Ryder flared up in anger. She was getting unjustly accused. "I wasn't thinking about anything of that kind! Why the hell did you hit me, you idiot!"
"Then why were you blushing like that?"
"Because it was embarrassing!"
"Huh?" Jasmine stared at Ryder in confusion. Why was she embarrassed? It's not like they did anything wrong. From Jasmine's point of view, all that happened was very normal.
Ryder felt helpless as she had to explain it to Jasmine who even after hearing the explanation, only felt that Ryder was just overthinking it. In her opinion, unless she had been seen running naked while waving her bras in the air, Ryder didn't have to feel embarrassed. How could this ease the feelings stirring Ryder's heart? If anything, it only made her feel worse.
After they stopped bickering, Ryder suddenly asked Jasmine. "Why do you want to protect Remy?"
The annoyance in Jasmine's eyes disappeared. The brown eyes softened, looking like melted chocolate as her face relaxed and a small smile brightened that scary aura that surrounded her whenever she was angry or annoyed. If Ryder didn't know that this is how Jasmine reacts towards everything she cherishes and wants to protect, she would have thought that maybe this thug romantically liked Remy. Yet this is Jasmine. She brightened like this when she talked about that puppy she found on the side of the road and forced her uncle to raise or that four-year-old cousin that lives two hours away from her house...
"Because I don't want to see him in pain," Jasmine said matter-of-factly.
"Yeah, but why? Why him?"
Jasmine ran her hand through her mane-like hair. "When I first saw him, he looked like a lost puppy getting beaten. Miserable and pathetic..." A soft chuckle puffed its way out of her plump lips as she recalled the image of Remy back then. "He looked so pitiful, but I liked his eyes. There was no fear in them, just sadness." Jasmine straightened her back and looked Ryder right in the eyes. "You know, he tries so hard to hide it, but I have noticed that when he thinks no one is watching, he looks sad. Little Rem Rem wants to look tough. He's always alone, trying to look scary and all, but he's quite cute actually. I don't want him to be alone and look sad."
What Midnight had said before Ryder stormed off, crossed her mind and a frown hung on her lips. "I like the stars... and I like the quietness... I wanted to taste both of them at the same time..." then the answer he gave her when Ryder had asked him why he had broken into her backyard... running away from life... His voice sounded sorrowful...downhearted... recalling that voice, Ryder tasted that feeling again.
Suddenly, she didn't want that stranger to sound like that again.
"Why are you asking?" Jasmine narrowed her eyes at Ryder who had slipped once again deep into her thoughts.
Instead of answering, Ryder ignored her question completely. "What do you think about him? Midnight, I mean..."
A sigh breezed Jasmine's lips as she lay down on the bed. She patted the place next to her, gesturing Ryder to lie by her side, and crossed her arms underneath her head. Ryder looked at her for a moment, then lazily stood up from the floor and lay down next to Jasmine.
The bright pair of chocolate eyes of Jasmine stared at the dark ceiling painted as the night sky. "I think he's handsome."
Ryder blinked in surprise. Didn't this idiot call him ugly twice? Or was she just trying to deliberately get on his nerves?
Jasmine cast a glance at Ryder and when she noticed the dumbfounded look on her face, she couldn't help but chuckle. "He seemed to be as cool as a cucumber. I'm surprised I didn't receive a single punch after all that."
You went berserk! Who would dare to deal with you when you're like that? Ryder frowned. "I think he's in pain."
"Well, one thing is for sure..." Jasmine closed her eyes and grinned.
For a moment, Ryder was scared. What is this girl thinking to do now? She already fought with four guys today. Is that even normal? Where the hell does she find all that energy?
The dark eyebrows of Ryder furrowed. "What?"
"We have to find out who he is."
Unconsciously, Ryder nodded. Wait, what? We? Who we? "Excuse me, what?"
Jasmine propped her upper body up with her elbow and looked at Ryder directly in her eyes, a strange fire burning in her eyes, that made Ryder shiver. Damn it. Her inner Sherlock Holmes has woken up. "That guy knows me. Now I NEED to know who he is."
"And what is your plan?" A gust of uncertainty took over her heart. Ryder was scared to even ask. This thug was planning on digging holes a few hours ago and she wasn't even that interested in Midnight back then. Now that he had her curiosity, God knows what she plans to do.
Ryder prayed silently for Midnight in her heart.
May your soul rest in peace.
Jasmine didn't answer, just sinisterly laughed under her breath before playing dead on the bed, refusing to tell Ryder anything.
The next day, Jasmine refused to leave the house and waited patiently in the backyard for Midnight to show up, with a bat in her hand that God knows where and when she found it. It took Ryder three hours to persuade her to hand over the bat, but before Ryder could sigh in relief, this thug grabbed the shovel from the ground and played around with it innocently as if her intentions weren't obvious at all.
Ryder had started cleaning the backyard thoroughly, getting rid of everything that littered the tormented grass, moving them to the attic that still needed to be cleaned, but for the time being she had decided to deal with the attic after she was done with beautifying the backyard, for this had turned into her new project. Ryder had sought her father's help, to keep her mother away from the backyard, which wasn't that hard, to begin with since she avoided it like the backyard was a pile of shit. This was why there was a shovel in the backyard.
Upon seeing the shovel being swung in the air as if it was Excalibur, Ryder rushed to get rid of the hammers and saws or any other thing that could be used as a weapon by this brat.
But Midnight didn't come.
The reason why Ryder didn't know. She started to wonder... Maybe he got scared away by Jasmine. Or was he afraid that Jasmine would call the police on him? It wouldn't be a surprise before, but now that he got her curiosity, it wasn't likely to happen. But Midnight didn't know this, did he? What if he just simply didn't want to show up again?
When this thought struck Ryder like lightning, the eagerness to find out who this Midnight was, intensified. If she knew who he was, he wouldn't have where to hide anymore. The possibility of him hiding in plain sight, made Ryder's blood boil.
By the time Monday came, Ryder was like a cocktail of feelings, annoyance, eagerness, curiosity, excitement... she harbored all these and walked through the hallway with a strange look in her eyes. The cognac color of her eyes looked like two pits of lava.
When Aiden noticed Ryder, he smiled, however, hesitated to approach in fear of facing that damned chihuahua that looked as if it would bite him any moment. When he noticed that Ryder was alone, with no beast in the body of a chihuahua to threaten his pride or physical health, he rushed to her, face full of smiles.
"Morning." The warm like spring sunshine voice made Ryder freeze in her spot, her heart speeding for a second before she managed to look calm.
"Good morning." Ryder smiled at Aiden shyly.
"Where is that Boxer Girl?" Aiden asked, wanting to make sure that he was out of danger before trying to make any move on the still clueless Ryder.
When Jasmine was mentioned, Ryder muttered a soft "oh" and looked behind as if searching for her amid the students, even though she knew that her Mama-bear had run away, chasing after Remy to give him the stuffed wolf. This was unintentional and quite a pointless thing to do. However, this reaction made cold sweat run down Aiden's back. So he was in danger after all?!
"She went to find Remy." Ryder turned her eyes to Aiden with a smile.
Aiden almost sighed in relief. Then he remembered who Remy was. Remy... Remy Millard? The scary dude that is always alone picking fights? Why the fuck was that scary chihuahua trying to find him? "Did he do something to her?" Aiden asked. Will there be a fight? Boxer Girl vs the Weirdo who always hides his face... this would be interesting.
Before Aiden could fantasize any further, Ryder who hadn't noticed the excitement in his voice, still lazily smiling, shook her head, shattering Aiden's daydreaming. "No. She made him a gift."
Aiden felt as if he was hit on the face with a brick. What the fuck? "Does she like him?" Just the idea made him shiver. Imagine how terrifying it would be if those two became a couple. Who would dare to oppose them then?
Once again, the clueless Ryder shook her head. "No." She chuckled softly. "She is adopting him."
"..."
If a minute ago, Aiden felt like he was hit by a brick on the face, now a whole building had fallen on his head. His brain shattered trying to process that one sentence. Jasmine Hasen... adopting... ADOPTING... Remy Millard... What the fuck is going on??? He just couldn't imagine that little girl with wild hair, trying to adopt, ADOPT, that weirdo that everyone tried to avoid because he looked like a pervert with that hair down and being alone all the time. Adopt...how the fuck does she plan to adopt... what is this bullshit? I don't know what is going on anymore.
Ryder noticed, for once, the strange look on Aiden, and her cheeks turned red. She must have sounded crazy to him. After all, not many knew how the head of Jasmine worked. How could she explain the situation to Aiden without sounding as if her brain was damaged? "Jaz... hmmm... she, in a non-romantic way, likes Remy... you know... she just wants to treat him well and have him under her protection."
The expression on Aiden's face worsened. That weirdo needs protection? How the fuck does he need protection? People need to be protected from him.
Seeing the expression on Aiden, Ryder felt helpless. She had no idea how else to explain it to him. Is it that weird to understand? To Ryder, after she went through this herself and because she didn't quite know what kind of behavior was considered abnormal, what Jasmine was doing wasn't that weird. Just a tiny bit weird, maybe.
With the conversation going nowhere, but just getting weirder, Aiden decided to change the topic. "So what were you thinking earlier? You looked quite... fired up..."
Ryder had to think about it, as she had lost the track of her thoughts being suddenly interrupted. "Ah." Her eyes brightened when she remembered. The face she made looked very cute to Aiden. He had to surpass a chuckle, biting his lower lip. This girl is so innocent... like a cute little bunny.
"There is something I want to figure out."
Aiden slyly got closer to Ryder as she talked, acting as if the hallway suddenly was too crowded. Ryder didn't notice that this was on purpose, thinking that it was a blessed moment from heaven that made her cheeks feel warm.
"What is that?"
"I..." The voice cracked. Ryder cleared her throat as the already warm cheeks turned scarlet red. Why is she always blushing around him? Is this normal? "I want to find someone." As she said this, the cognac eyes went to Aiden's hands unconsciously. It was stupid because the voices weren't the same but the eyes searched for the little mole before she could realize it.
"Are you free after school?" The topic once again took a whole other direction. Ryder was confused. How is this question related to what he asked previously? Is this how you do small chats?
"I'm going to buy some gardening tools... why?"
Aiden cursed in his heart. How come she is always busy? Always had plans? How busy could she be, when she only hangs out with that chihuahua? Yet, Aiden refused to give up. He was determined in his task. "Do you mind if I tag along?"
Why would Aiden want to come with her to buy grass and flower seeds? "You might get bored..." Jasmine always complained whenever the two of them went shopping, the happenings of Saturday afternoon being the proof. If Aiden came along, maybe he would get bored and not want to hang out with her anymore. Ryder didn't want to risk it. Even though it was a bit odd to have her crush talking and spending time with her, Ryder didn't dislike it. Even though it was a bit awkward, she enjoyed it and for this reason, she didn't want to give Aiden any reason to get bored of her.
"Not at all." Aiden gave her one of those dazzling smiles of his. "Why would I get bored with you there?"
EXTRA:
Famous last words:
Aiden: Why would I get bored with you there?
1 hour later
Aiden: I have regrets ಠ_ಠ. Why does nothing ever go as fucking planned? T^T
Aiden clearly underestimated Ryder's capability of being as boring as a rock resting under the sun when she shopped. He truly felt like his brain would boil from boredom as the girl kept staring at two vases of flowers that looked pretty much the same to Aiden. What is there to think so much about? Just pick one already!!!When the two met after school, Aiden was beaming with confidence. Jasmine was nowhere to be seen, apparently, something had come up with Remy. Aiden didn't care that much, but he was starting to think that maybe this whole "adaptation" thing could be very profitable for his side. At least he could have Ryder all for himself and not worry for Jasmine butting her way in between them like an overprotective dog that would bite him every moment now. Little did Aiden know that Jasmine had let Ryder go alone with him thinking that no matter how all this thing with Aiden ended, it could be a learning experience for Ryder. She still would avenge Ryder if he so much as hurt h
The more time passed, the more steps she took, the more Ryder's irritation turned into pure rage, mostly directed at herself. Why didn't she run after him? Why didn't she stay closer to the door? He was so close God damn it. They were in the same place, during the day, and she couldn't steal even a glimpse at him. Ryder was furious. What up with this shitty luck? And that worker... why didn't she say anything, but played dumb? Like hell, you don't know. The guy shows up every now and then and you don't know anything about him? Who are you trying to fool? When Henry saw his daughter stomp her way into the house, he was almost scared to talk to her. That scary look in her eyes made him feel like he was looking at a grenade re
Midnight left before midnight... =_= There was nothing to do in the backyard now that he was gone, so Ryder went up to her room. Only then did she realize how tired she was. This day had been so long and it had exhausted her physically and mentally. The bed felt like a bliss descended from heaven, yet as Ryder lay down, sighing in pleasure, the phone in her pocket rang. There was no need to check who it was, for who else but Jasmine would call her at this time? Ryder threw the blanket over her body and only then did she answer the phone. "What's up?" There were a lot of noises coming from Jasmine's side. She must be somewhere crowded. Ryder could barely listen to Jasmine as she answered. "I have good news and bad news." She sounded cheerful, but her tone was somewhat strained. Noticing this, Ryder who was just starting to drift into sleep, opened her eyes, sleep flying out of the window. "Did something happen?" "Mhm," Jasmine said, the voice barely heard as it blended with the no
Since Jasmine had made it a habit to spurt out random information about Remy, it wasn't that hard to find him. But there was no way things would go as smoothly as Jasmine had imagined. Ryder had no idea how to start small talks, and Remy had no desire to be around anyone. This resulted in Ryder just watching Remy from afar, feeling like a creep, and couldn't help but sigh inwardly. Whenever it was possible, Ryder would mutter a hi at Remy, who would just nod once before going in his merry way.Remy didn't have any bad impression of Ryder. Actually, he didn't have any impression at all since he had met her just twice. All he knew was that this girl had some sense in her brain and would help him escape Jasmine's claws. As for what happened that Saturday, he didn't know what to think of it. At least Ryder didn't throw punches at random.Still, for both of them, it was a bit weird to just suddenly start a conversation. What would they even talk about?Ryder felt depressed. She was doing th
After school, Ryder decided to give the "Wooden Lord" bookstore a visit for interrogation reasons. Since she was alone, with Jasmine absent for the day, as soon as the last period ended, Ryder put on her headphones and made her way out of school. There was no one other than Jasmine who would take the initiative to talk to her, so she turned up the volume to the maximum, with no worry that someone would call her out and she wouldn't hear. This idiot, of course, totally forgot about Aiden.Aiden had been in a horrible mood since lunch. Even Greg who would never let any chance to tease him didn't dare to talk to him. Who knew if Aiden suddenly snapped and things took a bloody turn? He better not risk it.When the bell rang for the ending of the last period, Aiden had rushed to Ryder. Today the damned chihuahua was nowhere to be seen. Why was he getting so mercilessly ignored? Aiden had figured out by now that Ryder was somewhat dense when it came to feelings. She failed to notice his flir
Even though what happened back in the bookstore angered Ryder to death and crushed all the high hopes she had for finally getting an accurate idea of what Midnight looked like, by the time the sun sank into the horizon, she had waved away all these dark feelings. All that was left, unexpectedly, was anticipation. By this time the backyard had already started to look more decent, the first steps to transforming it into a garden, already taken. Henry helped her earlier to plant the grass seeds, using this opportunity to take credit later when the garden was finished. Seeing that she would need his help, later on, Ryder had long since tolerated this childish behavior of her father. The original idea of the garden being her gift to her mother, turned into THEIR gift to Michelle. Since Henry was paying and helping, it was only fair to do so. Yet, Henry couldn't understand why his daughter was developing such a bad habit of staying in the backyard until late at night every single night. He
According to G****e, the Myosotis flower, also called the scorpion grass is most known as the Forget-me-not flower. The flower is small and blue, simple but pretty and delicate as if one touch was enough to kill it. Ryder could understand why Midnight liked this flower. The problem was the fact that Midnight described this small and delicate flower as doleful. Was it because of its name? The more Ryder thought about it, the more the furrow between her eyebrows deepened, the frown on her lips looked as if it would never leave. He said that if he was a flower he would be the Forget-me-not flower. That he would be a doleful flower. Why?The expression on her face was grim as it was, but when Ryder read the story behind the Froget-me-not name, her expression darkened more. The story was about a French knight who was walking along a river with his lady. He bent down to pick her a pretty little blue flower, but his heavy armor caused him to lose his balance and he fell into the current. Befo
Ryder knew very well that after that night when she tried to trick Midnight into revealing his identity, he wouldn't dare even look in the bookstore's direction, let alone set foot inside it. This was also proved by the worker whose hostility was on another level, blaming Ryder that her crush hadn't shown up ever since she appeared. The poor girl was burning up from the desire to kick Ryder out of the bookstore, but her employer, an old lady who had a bad habit of getting into conversations with everything that breathed, had taken a liking to Ryder because she would listen to her rants and occasionally buy a book or two.Yet Ryder still hoped that she might be lucky one day, so she didn't want to give up.Aiden almost swallowed his tongue to prevent himself from swearing at loud upon hearing this. That fucking Boner Boss again. Because of that fucking bookstore Ryder had dodged him countless times."Why are you going there again?" Why aren't you staying with me? Your new, fresh out-of-
Those three words shocked Michelle stiff. During this whole month, the drama queen's role was occupied by Henry who would wail and complain the whole time for getting his daughter stolen by a brat. However, Michelle was rather calm. Isn't it just a boyfriend? Yet only now did she realize the situation was quite serious. Where did this love come from? Wasn't it just a simple crush? What love??? No, no, no. Nobody talked about love! This is serious. Her daughter really got stolen right in front of her eyes! Unacceptable!!!!! The corner of her lips twitched. Michelle lost all desire to cook. She didn't even want to see Jake anymore. She needed time to digest all this. Wait a minute.... Does this mean she is going to meet her future son-in-law? BUT I'M TOO YOUNG TO BE A GRANDMA! And so when Henry came back, the pair of husband and wife looked as if they were facing a calamity. Who knew Ryder better than them? That damned girl didn't even make friends that easily. If she said she loved Ja
Five minutes later, Ryder was breathing heavily, her face as red as it could get. She wanted to glare at Jake but couldn't for she also felt rather shy after that kiss... Let's say... a few sounds she had never done before came out of her and now she wanted to bury herself somewhere. On the other hand, Jake had his mood improved, and turned to his painting as if nothing happened. "That wasn't the revenge I was talking about by the way." The low pitch and somehow hoarse voice sent shivers down her spine. "Jerk," Ryder muttered at him, touching her lips. Jake only smiled even more and kept painting. "Humph!" Ryder scoffed and sat back on the bed. Trying to ignore the intense blush on her face, she brought Jake's laptop on her lap. "Can I use your laptop?" "Yeah." Ryder opened the screen of it and frowned for a second. It seemed that the last time Jake had used it, he was writing something, for the first thing that appeared once the screen turned on was a document on Microsoft Word.
After Aiden went home that afternoon, what awaited him was a pissed-off father, with hands resting on his hips and a rather fierce look in his eyes. Mathew scolded Aiden for five hours straight, his voice not even going hoarse from all the talking, but Aiden's ears had gone numb and felt like they would bleed if he listened to his father's vicious scolding even for one more minute. His head was boiling from all that speech to the point he even felt like fainting, but all Aiden could do, was sit and patiently listen with his head lowered, bearing with this humiliating state. This happened four weeks ago. After that long ass scolding, Aiden didn't dare to say half a bad word to Jake, but that didn't stop him from glaring at his brother and Ryder every time he saw the two of them. As the days passed, the glares softened a bit, but the atmosphere between the three of them was anything but good. Still, Ryder didn't care at all. Ever since she and Jake became a pair, the unrestricted Mathe
Before he left in the morning, Ryder finally got his phone number. Because of some certain grudges from the past she also wanted Jake to give her his email and any other social media he was on, only to remember that she wasn't on any social media herself. In the end, she could only add him on WhatsApp. He had promised to pick her up from school, so the two of them could go out for a walk."Why are you smiling like a fool?" Jasmine asked her."Huh? What?" Ryder put her phone back in her coat pocket."Why were you smiling at the phone like a fool?" Jasmine repeated, her dark eyes narrowing at Ryder. Only now did she notice that this friend of hers looked kind of strange today. Her eyes were way too... sparkling... And her cheeks were a rosy red... and her smile was a bit too bright...WHAT THE FUCK!WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY?!!!Jasmine turned around, looking around the classroom. As her eyes fell on Aiden, she felt both relieved and disappointed at the same time. In the end, she clicked
"Did you go out in the garden? There were footprints on the snow." Henry asked before stuffing almost half of the toast that was in front of him in his mouth. Michelle looked at his vile way of eating as if he had been starved and clicked her tongue. Her upper lip curled up and her nose drew up and wrinkled as she shook her head, yet she still put more toasts in front of her husband. Gotta feed him well."I did," Ryder answered slowly, not sure if it was the right answer or not. There was no way her father had seen Jake sneaking out of her room, right? He would have grabbed his homemade sword and chased after him. Right?"Oh. Why?""I wanted to play with snow."Henry looked at his daughter as if she had grown a second head. Facing such a gaze, Ryder smiled foolishly. "It has been so long since I last saw snow...""Oh..." Henry said again. He didn't ponder over it too much though, as Michelle stuffed what was left from his toast in his mouth."Eat more, speak less."Having been fed by
As the kiss landed on his hair, Jake realized that Ryder had kissed him twice on the lips yesterday. He had been so immersed in his worries and fear, in that rollercoaster of emotions that he let such an important thing slide.Closing his eyes, Jake hesitantly asked. "Ry.""Mm.""Did you tell me... that you like me?"In just one second all the sleepiness vanished, and now Ryder was fully awake. Awake and blushing. Yet she still tried to remain calm, her eyes closed as if the fast heartbeat wasn't betraying her at all. "I did."If it weren't for the fact that Jake could hear her heart beating faster, he would have thought she was either sleepily admitting it or she was just that cool about her feelings. The corner of his lips lifted and an unexplainable joy warmed his body from inside, spreading from his fast-beating heart to every inch of his being."I like you too."Ryder smiled. "Mhmm. I know.""Can I be your boyfriend then? I promise I will be good and will never hurt you."Ryder c
Jake pouted. His arms wrapped tightly around Ryder's waist as a strange urge to bite into her neck overwhelmed him. "Don't make fun of me. It was embarrassing."Ryder chuckled twice, her shoulders shaking slightly. "I thought it was cute." The grip around her waist tightened even more. For a second she stopped and put herself in Jake's shoes and sighed. It truly must have been too embarrassing for him. That was the first time they met in broad daylight with no hoodies or whatever to cover his face. It was the first time they met in such a close range face to face and what happened? He was half naked looking like a kindergarten child's drawing. And he was spurting nonsense.Ryder bit the inside of her cheek and her face flushed red. He has a good body.... However, she did not dare to say that at loud. Instead, her lips pressed lightly against his cheek. "Let's go inside. It's too cold out here. You will catch a cold."Jake nodded once and stood up from the ground. Even though the air a
Soft and hesitant footsteps sounded from behind the fence. The warm cognac eyes looked away from the cold snow and fell at a certain someone who was walking towards the fence. She saw Midnight approaching the fence with hesitant steps before jumping over it. He stopped to look up at the window of her room. The light was left on, but he was biting his lip, nervously standing in front of the fence for a few minutes, not daring to go any closer.Midnight hadn't noticed Ryder in the swing seat. He was battling himself, not knowing if he should go to her room or just leave. His cold hands were trembling slightly and his lip hurt from all the biting, yet he didn't want to stay and didn't want to leave. In the end, Midnight simply remained frozen in place.Seeing him not having any intentions of coming to meet her, Ryder could only smile sadly. She raised her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, before speaking. "Aren't you going to see me tonight?"The voice was low and tend
After Ryder came back home, she was completely in a daze. What happened back in Aiden's house had left her muddled. Even though she didn't show it back then, or on the way home, for she was that kind of person who would be able to calmly react to unexpected situations, like the night she first met Midnight proves, after everything was over and she was far away from the said situation, Ryder felt like her head would explode. She opened the front door slowly as if she had no power left, which almost scared Henry shitless. The strong reactions her father had seemed to have brought her back to reality and Ryder stared at her worried parents. During her whole life, there were times when she would feel lucky to have them but never had she felt it as strongly as now."I'm okay. I'm just tired." Ryder sighed and went upstairs to her room after giving both Henry and Michelle a warm smile that instead of putting them at ease, worried them to death. Once Ryder was in her room, Henry turned to his
