“... and checkmate.” the man in the white suit said as she smiled evilly. He was playing a game of chase on my computer, and so far, he had defeated the opponent multiple times.

“Life is like a game of chess,” he told himself, looking at his diamond crafted wristwatch. He stepped down from his chair and went to his little bar pouring himself a drink. Things in the city of Palermo had just gotten interesting to him.

“I have legit Intels. Romano needs to be taken down.” Angelo stated, causing him to raise an eyebrow.

“Why do I need to take down Romano? He's a family leader.” Giovanni reminded him. Cielo sat quietly at the table, listening to their conversation without butting in.

“He has been having meetings with a nameless man regularly. Rumors from dark sources suggest that he's planning to overthrow you.” Angelo replied crisply.

“Interesting.”

“We need to act fast while we still can. Just give an order, and his head will be rolling at your feet.” Angelo stated indignantly.

Angelo nodded. He trusted his brother to do what was right, but he wasn't going to fold his hands and watch his brother's hard work flushed down the drain by some faceless cowards!“How long do you intend to stay here?” he asked, rising from the chair.“Tell the other men to report to you. We will meet at the safe house.” he ignored his question. Angelo nodded, knowing better than to ask questions. He walked into his car and drove off. He drove to his personal house where he was welcomed by Gia who came out to welcome him as soon as she heard the sound of his car. He was at home with her before he received the call from his brother causing him to run out madly.“What happened? What made you run out that way?” she questioned, showing concern. He hugged her, kissing her softly on the lips.“I've had a stressful day, I need to rest now. You should head home now,” he responded, holding her by the waist. They were currently in a relationship. He had been dating her secretly for over a week

—That was how she had gotten out of Giovanni's mansion and was now back to the base. She waited in her room for her boss to call for her. The driver had dropped her off about an hour ago after a short trip of complete silence. He didn't utter any word to her and she didn't bother starting a Convo. She had locked the door, stripped naked and gotten into the shower immediately she stepped into her room. She spent over two minutes in the bathtub allowing the warm water calm her tensed muscles. She sponged herself, before draining the water. Her thoughts drifted to Giovanni. Had he found out that she had broken away? Was he already looking for her? She knew he would already be looking for her. She didn't how how important the files were, but if they were important to her boss, then it would surely be important to him.She stepped out of the tub, wrapping herself in a big towel before walking over to her wardrobe. She took out a comfy baggy trouser and tank top and wore it before going to

“Huh?” She stared at him with wide eyes. She almost spat back her drink as he stared at him in surprise. Why was he asking her about it?“It was successful,” she answered plainly and he stared at her, not believing her.“And … ” he drew.“And I'm back” she offered him a tight smile and he stared back with a furious look in his eyes. He was always over-possessive of her. He had feelings for her and she knew it. They had gotten into a relationship some years ago during her first few years in the institution before she broke them up some months later. He had opposed her decision, but that was what she wanted. She didn't like the idea of dating.“Huh? Nothing happened?” he asked with a raised eyebrow, looking deeply at her like he could read through her. He suspected that she might have gone down with Giovanni.“All those little details are mine to keep or tell. What matters is that the mission was successful,” she replied calmly, looking at him deadbeat in the eyes. They stared at each ot

Giovanni leaned forward in his chair as he waited for Luigi to speak again. He tried to remain calm under the tension, but with every passing second they spent in silence, he got more agitated. He wanted answers, and he wanted them quickly.“I'm sorry for what happened to your clubhouse. I heard it got bombed.” Luigi started, speaking calmly. Giovanni hissed. News was always sure to spread quickly.“Thank you for your concern. That is one of the reasons I am here,” he replied, studying his host's facial expression. Luigi still remained unfazed as he continued speaking.“It's an honor that I am the first person you turned to,” Luigi spoke with a hint of sarcasm in his tone, Giovanni caught the sarcasm but chose not to react. He wasn't planning on losing his cool over trivial issues.“Somethings are not how the eyes see them. You said that” Giovanni leaned back in his chair, maintaining eye contact with his host. “I want answers, and I know you can provide them,” he added.“My answers ha

Romano rose from his seat and walked out, followed by some of his armed men. They walked quietly out of the building into the cars that were parked outside before driving off.“Get me through to Jack again,” he ordered one of his men who was sitting in front of the car. The man took out the phone and tried again. It still gave the same response. “Nothing, sir”“Arrrgh, ” Romano screamed. Get me to Giovanni immediately. Inside Giovanni's office, Angelo sat comfortably on the chair. His gun was placed on the table beside a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of liquor. He flipped through the files he had printed out of his laptop with full attention. A knock sounded on the door and he raised his head to stare at it, debating if to grant access to whoever was knocking. “Come in” he finally replied and the face of one of his men popped in, followed by his entire body. He did a little salute and bowed. “Romano Rossi requested to see the boss. He is waiting outside.” the guard informed. “I

“The target is sixty-five seconds away from you. Coming from the left.'' The man inside the car was informed through a phone call. He dropped the call and kicked the engine of the car to life. He cocked his gun before checking the time on his stopwatch. He still had some valuables to spare. The headlight of a car shone brightly from the left side of the road and he set his car into motion, ramming into the side of the car. The collision was heavy and sent a spiraling effect on the other car. He walked out with his gun cocked and pointed forward and shot a bullet at the driver of the other car. He walked closer to the car and yanked the door open. The driver sat in his seat looking weak and half dead. A bullet had caught his lower abdomen. The killer raised his gun and was about to fire another bullet when a gunshot sounded behind him. The effect was a sharp pain at the back of his head that sent a numb feeling through his body.Cielo Verrilli stepped out of the shadows, a gun in her ha

“How did you know I was being targeted?” Angelo asked for the fifth time since they started talking. He was laying on his back on the bed while Cielo sat on a chair beside the bed.“That is a secret, but let's just say I stumbled upon a piece of information that turned out to be pretty helpful,” Cielo replied. He wanted to ask more questions, but he just nodded in response. The questions could wait till later. He had to recover first.“You have some hours to rest. I'll be back by dawn. We have a lot to talk about if you wanna save your brother.” She admonished and got up from her seat. He watched her pick up some of her things from the table in his room before walking out of the room. He scoffed arrogantly as soon as she walked out. Who did she think she was?He helped himself out of the bed and walked to the table where his blood-stained jacket lay. His shirt was totally soaked in blood and lay in the waste bin. “Hold up… You said you got your piece from my brother, right?” Angelo asked skeptically “Yeah” “Does that mean he is one of them?” He asked, feeling unsure of his feelings.“No. He isn't. They wouldn't wanna kill him if he's one of them.” She reasoned.“Alright. Now tell me all you know about this scorpione nero you speak about.” Angelo asked. He was really curious to hear about them. If they wanted to take out Giovanni, then they were more dangerous than he thought.“The scorpione Nero which means the black scorpion in English is an ancient Italian cult founded some centuries ago by a group of elite Italian scientists, administrators, and other men of high intellectual standards. They believe greatly in science and astrology.” She explained.“Wow! Sounds really powerful,” he exclaimed.“Ya. Many years ago, they were declared dangerous and the church labeled them an enemy. Giovanni was dressed in a blue tuxedo as he stood nervously and impatiently in front of the priest for his bride. What started as a rocky hate relationship blossomed into marriage and they were now about to tie the knot. Looking back at everything, he was grateful to her for sticking around. His underboss stood some distance behind him, dressed in a similar suit while his mother and members of the two families took the first few rows. The tune soon started playing and Giovanni turned to see his bride walking down the aisle with Enzo. He smiled unconscionably as he watched her take graceful steps. She was dressed in a big white wedding dress and held a bouquet of flowers in her hand. They got to where he stood and Enzo nodded at him, handing Cielo over to him.“You look very beautiful today. I'm a fucking lucky man,” he whispered into her eyes and she smiled. They walked hand in hand to the front of the priest and he began the proceeding. It was Cielo's suggestion to go with a church we

Giovanni and Cielo spent their vacation at Seychelles island somewhere in Africa. They spent most of the day on the beach or waterside. Sometimes they went scuba diving, rock climbing, or visited the Morne national park. They also went on helicopter rides often. They had spent five days already and tonight, they were preparing for a dinner date.“Why can't we just have this dinner indoors?” Cielo whined for the umpteenth that evening. She was yet to put on her dress while Giovanni was already done with his. He was dressed in a black tuxedo suit and a white shirt. He wore diamond earrings and had a matching diamond watch on his left wrist.“Because tonight is a special night, besides, we haven't been to any of the top notch restaurants around here,” Giovanni replied, placing his hands on her waist. “Ya. Right,” She gave up and went to take out her dress. It was a blue full length dinner dress that had a slit from her thigh downward. It was tight and hugged her body perfectly, exposing

Giovanni wrapped up the last file he was working on and heaved a sigh of relief. Everything had been going on well over the last month. The family business was booming, he was getting more clients and investors and Palermo was calm. The only area of worry he had now was his love life. Cielo had refused to see him since then even after he had tried to plead on different occasions. He had been away for over two weeks and now that he was back in town, he was going to try to speak to her again. He arranged the files on the table before getting up. He picked up his phone from the table and checked the time on it. It was a few minutes past five pm. He stepped out of the office and locked the door before getting into his car.“Knew I was gonna find you here,” Giovanni said and Cielo turned to look at him. Her mouth opened in surprise as she stared at him. He smiled at her and she smiled back.“How did you find me here?” she questioned with a shy smile. She had missed him a lot and seeing him

Enzo waited patiently in the back seat of the jeep for his prey. His face was covered in a mask, his hair under a cap and he had a big hoodie on. A perfect disguise for a cold late night. Some minutes later the door of the driver's side of the car opened and someone stepped in. He dropped his phone and a file by the space between the two seats and Enzo counted each passing seconds before he attacked. He took out the gun from under his hoodie silently and cocked it, placing it on the side of Gallo's head.Gallo tried to act immediately but he hit him hard on the side of his head with the butt of the gun. “Gallo Esposito. It's really unsafe to be driving around Palermo alone, especially at this period.” Enzo mouthed without a smile. “I heard what happened to the institution. Also heard you've been looking for who did it. Why do you suspect Cielo Verrilli?” he asked and then paused. He observed the visible shift in his demeanor at the mention of Cielo's name.“What? She had woken up some hours earlier, made breakfast, and got to work. Giovanni had woken up to take breakfast with her and returned to the bed after. She paused and looked at a particular document. She opened it and scrolled through its contents before dropping it in shock. She picked it up and stared at it, unable to believe its content before she stormed to the form with the papers in her hand. She walked into the room to see that Giovanni was no longer on the bed. She heard the water rushing in the ensuite so she waited for him to walk out. He walked out some minutes later, saw her standing with her hands folded, and smiled at her.“Hey,” he said with a cheerful smile.“How long have you known about this?” she asked, producing the paper from behind her and thrusting it into his hands. The scanner scanned her retina and Cielo stepped inside with the heave of a sigh. She had taken off her bulletproof vest and dropped it with Giovanni. Wearing it inside was going to draw a lot of attention to her and she didn't want that. Especially not at this point. There were few people in the hallway so it was easy for her to walk past them. Not like the other agents really cared. The only person that could have been nose high in her business was Piero and he was dead now.“I have gotten in. On my way to the security room.” She informed both Giovanni and Enzo through the device on her ear. She took a left turn as she got closer to the security room. The security room was always locked but she could bypass that. She got to the door and looked around before taking out a key from her pocket. She fixed it into the lock and turned it and the door gave way. She walked in and looked at the different switches in the room. Most of them looked familiar. She walked to the alarm system and br

He looked like he could kill anyone at that instant. “What do you mean by that?” he asked, rising from his seat and walking to the front. He gave Enzo a cold stare which he returned. The two men stared at each other coldly before Morelli cleared his throat, making Rafael spare him a glance. “You must surely know Matteo Verrilli.
