Chapter 1

The major wedding is taking place tomorrow. A marriage between the Chief's daughter and Ahiga, a gallant warrior of great renown. That daughter is none other than me. Arranged marriages are very important in our tribe, the Asalog. Individuals marry one another because they are of like grade; two strong people get married together as much as two weak people. Historically, our customs were established to keep authority from controlling our lives. Yes, we have a Chief, but he was picked for his good acts rather than his power. Following his death, the tribe's protection is handed over to the next noble-hearted man who has shown himself worthy.A woman is unable to get the position of Chief. Not because she is a woman, but because our obligations are equally as vital as those of men. We are the chefs, instructors, healers, child carriers, and the ones that the men look to for guidance when it comes to making vital life and death decisions. Hunting and fighting are two things that

I am intrigued by this book and really enjoy it so far. Very curious to see the story evolve, but it is challenging to stay engaged when it takes two weeks to get a new chapter. I may have to leave it alone until more is written in the story.

Chapter 2

My mother took Ahiga’s position when he left and turned to me. My father had his eyes filled with love-longing after her. I longed to have that sensation for someone.“Dear, Naga informed me that you kicked her daughter.”I pealed my eyes from my father and rolled them again. “She tried to trip me as I was walking. I gave her a little nudge out of the way.”Leave it to Aila to go tattle to her mother.Mother eyed me, but smirked. “You know, doing nothing would get you the same revenge you seek? Especially, if this is over you marrying Ahiga.”“So, she will tattle on me even if I didn’t kick her?” I raised my eyes. She pursed her lips. “You know what I mean. Marrying that man will shut her up.”I crossed my arms and pouted. “If only being engaged to him would do the trick.”In response to Ahiga returning and standing by my father, she struck my u

Chapter 3

I was irritated by the prospect of my father removing me from such an important meeting. Yes, one of the reasons I wanted to stay was because of Calian. Okay, so maybe it was the main reason I wanted to stay after all! Even though I had more than enough legal authority to remain at the meeting, my simple query immediately informed my father that I was interested in more than just the reasons for the new tribe's presence. In this instance, there was no "me getting ready for the wedding." The entire event would be planned by the tribe, and all I had to do was sit back and wait until it was time to say, "I do."Traveling down the dirt route leading out of the village and west to the lake helped me to relieve my frustration. I managed to escape anyone's gaze for a while, which saved me from snapping at someone. After passing the final cabin, the dirt route came to an end. Now it was time to walk barefoot along the soft grass, passing a dense stand of oak trees. The simple ac

Chapter 4

I stalked home with a breeze between my legs, irritated with my encounter at the lake. The audacity with which the man presented himself in front of a nude woman made me sick to my stomach. At the same time, I couldn't help but want additional opportunities to see him. I knew guys had different body parts than women, but I was anxious to see what they looked like when they were nude, and he had only given me half of his body to look at! From the warriors at home, it was a view that I had seen many times before. Not one of them had ever piqued my interest enough to make me want to see more, and the foreign sensation blazed within of me.My interest was piqued by everything about Calian's character. I was interested in learning about the scar on his chest and what it was like to be labeled a traitor. What prompted him to offer to assist me in getting out of the wedding, and how would he go about doing so?As I approached the gravel road that led to our tiny villag

Chapter 5

I awoke to the sound of bells ringing in my ears. It was the day of the wedding, and the bells signaled that everyone should get ready. From the kitchen, I could hear my mother whistling a lullaby. I suppose there was one positive aspect of the day; my mother was content, and I couldn't have asked for anything more.Rather than getting dressed as I normally would, I slid out of my bed and pushed through my fur curtain, wrapping myself in the sheepskin robe. My mother was seated at the kitchen table, doing the last few alterations to my bridal gown. She had spent months stitching it together with tan fur and silks, and she was proud of the result. It looked stunning, and if there was one thing that could brighten my day, it would be showing it off to the whole town.“Oh! Honey! I was just about to wake you. Are you ready to try it on?” She asked, beaming with pride.“I have to put it on sooner or later, right?” I giggled.“Did

Chapter 6

As everyone at the wedding scrambled to flee from the stifling smoke, chaos ensued around us. Others, like my mother, who were in command of their magic were able to clear the billows around them, allowing them to breathe from a bubble of fresh air.I gathered my thoughts in the way I had been instructed and concentrated on building my own oxygen cage. As the oxygen returned to my brain, I looked around the audience, initially searching for my family. My mother had managed to wrangle the Chief away from the throngs of people and was now attempting to assist those around her with their own bubbles of cleared air. Those who were unable to concentrate had fallen to the ground as the smoke climbed above their heads.Immediately next to me, Ahiga was resting on his stomach, struggling for air. As a result of the spiritual man's dismissal, the wedding came to an end. Having realized that I would not be getting married on this particular day, I felt a surge of

Chapter 7

After the unsuccessful wedding, duties returned to normal the next day. My mother and I worked together to manufacture new clothing for the tribe, as well as fulfilling requests from tribes all around the nation. When it came to sewing, our women were the finest in Nakinata. Considering our country's geographical location in the southeast hemisphere of Aerithia (our planet), we have seen milder weather conditions. Everything, from farming to construction, was less complicated for us. We were fortunate in that we were not affected by the cold. Because we were always working, we were not equipped to withstand colder conditions. Some of them from the North were familiar to me; they were covered in thick skin. When their clothing orders arrived, it was usually more difficult to fulfill them since they required more fabrics to accommodate their physique and heavier furs. "My dear, we will need to decide the next possible day for your betrothal."

Chapter 8

Ahiga climbed on top of me, his nude body covering mine. I tried all I could to get out from beneath him, but I couldn't. Screaming was futile at this point since the blanket was wedged between my jaws. I sneered at him as he began to fiddle with the leather tie that was holding my dress in place over my chest.   “That’s a good girl.” He purred as the tie came loose.   He yanked the remainder of it out of the sewn-in loops and tossed it on the bed next to where we were lying. His hand slowly caressed the top of my dress, lightly brushing against my breasts as he did so. As the intensity of my squirming beneath him intensified, a snicker could be heard from his lips. His grin had lost its sense of humor as he yanked my dress down, enabling my breasts to bounce out freely.   “You are so beautiful.” He said.   He grabbed one of my boobs with his free hand and began massaging it vigorously

Chapter 9 - CORRECTED 3/3/22

I hissed under my breath and rolled my eyes. “Listen, other than before, I have a perfectly valid reason for this.” “I’m sure you do. Let’s hear it.” He suggested with a raised eyebrow. I shook my head. “No. That’s none of your business.” Who does this man think he is? Why would I divulge any information about my personal life to him? He may be gorgeous, but that does not imply that I will drool over him and spill about how awful my life is. I’ve always wanted to whack the women in the village for acting in such a disrespectful manner toward other men. Never before in my life have I been able to comprehend why a woman would display frailty in order to attract a man. The whole “poor me” thing is a relic of the past and out of date. He stepped forward, drawing me from my thoughts. “I’m making it my business.” Reaching out a hand, he slid his fingers along the back of mine that was still holding up my dress. The peach fuzz on my arm rose as shive
