Dylan’s P.O.V
After scaring the wolves that tried to attack the girl, I changed back into my human form and my eyes strayed towards the dainty figure that collapsed on the floor.
I crouched down next to her while the moonlight reflected on her face, her vulcanite black hair almost covered half of her face. I removed the hair that was all over her face with my fingers brushing through her face in the process.
On a normal night, if someone had fainted I would have left them there till they recuperated on their own but I developed a great urge to look at this lady's face.
There was nothing special about her face, the only thing I found attractive about her were her long languid eyelashes of velvet-black.
"Should I save her or should I leave her here?" I pondered deeply on it with my eyes fixated on her.
The first time I transformed before an old woman was when I went to a small town for a mission that the moon goddess assigned to me, she was thrown into a state of shock and when she finally gathered herself back, she screamed out loud and cussed out on me, yelling that I was a blood sucking demon who wanted to finish her off by killing her.
She stated that she was going to call the inhabitants of the town on me.
Like she promised, she called the inhabitants on me and they came with different clubs and burning torches in a bid to attack me but I just scoffed at their stupidity from the mountains afar.
There was one thing about me, when I hear people's call for help, I don't save them twice. I only save them once, if they lose consciousness because of some mere transformation, then the joke is on them. Because that's the last they would ever see of me.
But why I thought of helping this lady twice was something I couldn't decipher. Maybe it was because I loved her bravery and courage when she clutched a stick tightly and decided to scare the wolves off with it.
That was the first time that I would see someone trying to stand up for themselves.
After debating in my mind if I should save the lady or abandon her there, I picked her in a bridal style, grumbling about how heavy she was.
There was a hospital a few miles away from this area, so she should be fine after she received treatments.
As I carried her in my arms, I felt a tingling sensation that rushed through my skin like a force of electricity.
For a moment, I wanted to shove off the thoughts of whatever I was thinking of but the tingling sensation that I felt on my skin intensified further that I had no option than to drop her on the rocky ground.
When she was off my arms, the tingling sensation that I felt on my skin was gone and when I carried her in my arms again, the sensation that I felt on my skin came back like it never went away in the first place.
What was this feeling? Was it the mating bond?
It was the mating bond!
My mating bond was activated by this stranger but that didn't matter at the moment or ever. It wasn't like I was ever going to see her again. I was going to be getting married the next day, so I didn't have the time to bother myself about any mating bond.
All I needed to do was take her to a hospital and be assured that she would be fine. I had no intention of staying with her till she recovers because I had better things to do than to watch over a girl who got frightened like a scaredy-cat.
One of them involved meeting the parents of my supposed bride… again.
Few years ago, the moon goddess had informed me about someone that I must get married to when she clocks twenty. She claimed that the said mate would bring peace and serenity to my icy heart devoid of warmth.
I scoffed at her statement because that wasn't possible!
All my life, I have lived a life devoid of any emotions and why I started saving people was because the moon goddess forcefully assigned me to start saving humans.
Because I was the only white wolf remaining, the moon goddess used my loneliness to her advantage by giving me different types of duties in order to cover up for the loneliness that I was drowning in.
Now, she was forcing me into a marriage that I had no interest in.
The only luck the moon goddess had was that I couldn't go against her words no matter how much some of her words didn't sit right with me but I had no options than to obey her commands.
Concerning the marriage, I only met with the parents of the girl I was going to be getting married to.
They were pretty scared and nervous and their fears were intensified because of the cold demeanor that I exuded. They tried to paint their daughter good in front of me, how fragile she was, how she gets scared quickly, how she didn't have a boyfriend for years because she was waiting for me.
Waiting for me? That part annoyed me the most.
But from the look on their faces, I was sure their beloved daughter knew about their plan to marry her off to me.
They also wanted to show me pictures of her but I declined coldly since I was going to be seeing her on the wedding day.
Moreso, I wasn't interested in her or in whatever deal her parents must have had with the moon goddess. All I knew was that she was making a horrible mistake that would soon become her worst nightmare.
I shook off my thoughts as I got to the gate of the hospital. When a nurse spotted me from afar, she quickly rushed inside and came out with some other nurses who rushed towards me while pushing a gurney.
"She only fainted," I chuckled to them. They ignored me and pushed her in while I sauntered behind them till they entered a room.
A nurse came outside, running her eyes around me. I took a curious look at myself and winced when I realized my clothes were tattered.
"Mr, are you okay? Did you two get involved in an accident?" The nurse enquired, looking at me suspiciously.
"No," I said simply, my tone leaving no room for any argument from her. "Would she be fine?" I couldn't resist asking. The offensive scent of antiseptics were beginning to trigger all my senses and I needed to know if she would be okay.
"Yes, she would be fine. Just give her some hours, she should regain consciousness by then." The nurse said. "But you need to make payments for her medical treatments. Please proceed to that counter over there." She pointed while I followed the direction of her hands with my eyes.
"Okay, thank you," I sauntered towards the counter.
Afterwards, I filled out the payment form and formed any type of name for the lady that saved. The middle-aged woman at the counter kept asking annoying questions about my relationship with the girl that I brought in. She was asking if I was her guardian or her husband? At first, I ignored her and walked away.
The nurse earlier ran after me when she saw that I was leaving the hospital.
"Mr…" She called behind me while I stopped on my track and turned to look at her. "You are leaving already?"
"Yes."
"The girl in the ward?"
I already knew what she was trying to say, she expected me to wait till she finally regained consciousness.
"Oh that! When she wakes up, ask for parents or close acquaintances' number, and they will continue from where I stopped."
I didn't feel the need to bother or waste my time over a stranger. I was sure she wouldn't have lived a lonely life like mine, so she must surely have friends and relatives that could come check on her.
Taking a final glance at the nurse and the hospital building, I walked out of the hospital, never to step foot there again.
Iris P.O. VI scrunched up my eyes because of the bright light that slipped through my eyelids that flickered continuously.A pungent smell overwhelmed me, assaulting and invading all my senses. The blinding lights were starting to subside, causing me to squint my eyes until I could have a clearer image of where I was. When the blurred images in my head cleared, then I realized where I was. I was at the hospital. How I got here and how long I have been here was something I couldn't wrap my head around though. Then slowly, the memories rushed through my head like a flood. From what I could recollect, I ran away from home then I found myself in a desolate area filled with dilapidated buildings. I was almost attacked by a wolf then.......I gasped when I remembered the man whose eyes gleamed like sapphires, the beauty his eyes entailed were mesmerizing until he transformed into a wolf. Cold shivers ran down my spine as the memories of my knight in shining armor occupied my thoughts.Th
Dylan's P.O.V. Screams and shouts were coming from the outside. My guess was right, the woman that I was supposed to get married to didn't know anything prior to marriage before. With the way she protested, I guessed she was also clearly against the union. The way she screamed for help was starting to infuriate me but she could scream all she wanted because no one was going to hear her inside the middle of this thick forest. My servants rushed towards the door, trying to calm the woman who was threatening to rain hail and brimstones if her parents didn't take her home immediately. I leaned back in on my chair, adjusting my glasses, with my eyes fixated on the newspaper. I had no interest in pacifying my soon to be bride but the noise and screams was something that I wouldn't tolerate. The dogs in the compound kept barking at her and I was taken aback when she barked back at them. It was something that I wasn't expecting at all. "You want to get me married to a beast
Iris's P.O.VNever in my wildest imaginations have I ever imagined about getting married at such an early age. When my mate's would be living life, I would be wallowing in grief and despair of being stuck in a marriage that I never wanted. I lowered my head, thinking about how my life was ruined. A great tremor overtook me and before I knew it,hot torrents of grief coursed down my face. My eyes bled with pain as my bottom lip quivered but I wouldn't allow my shoulders drop in defeat.I could still escape the horrible life that I was about to be forced in but how to escape was what i didn't know how to do. I stood up from the bed and went to the window to see if I would be able to escape but there was no way I could escape without being caught because armed men were stationed everywhere. There was no use in trying to run away because I would surely get caught. As I was about to give up in defeat, a thought popped up in my head!"What if I try to do things that would irritate t
IRIS. "DEAR WIFE, WELCOME TO HELL!" "NO!" Even as the words felt like they were being shouted in my head, I let out a scream and jolted awake. Welcome to hell? It couldn't be! There was no way I had married that monster of an animal who regarded himself as a man. "No," I whimpered, letting the tears flow freely, knowing that no matter how many times I wished it was not true, no matter how much I tried to live in the denial of the very words that binded us as a couple, the words were truly uttered, and there was nothing to change that. The fact that the man had even gone as far as making the way like every normal human wedding I had ever witnessed spoke volume. I was given out to a monster by my parents already. Speaking of parents, I didn't want to think about mine. At least, not yet. Not until I figured out a way to get out of the mess they thought to drag me into when I had absolutely no clue why or when they were making it. For now, I needed to figure out what I was going to
IRIS. The battle of stare lasted for over a minute. At some point, I became afraid, thinking about how I had put the woman on the spot when she was only trying to be nice to me. "Giselle, I–" The door opened abruptly, cutting off my apology. I watched as the kind and worried look on Giselle's face dropped, quickly replaced by an informidable one before she turned to look at whoever the intruder was. "What insolent act is that?!" She barked at the newcomer. I leaned to a side so I could see who it was. I frowned when I saw a young girl of no more than twelve lowered her head. Whether it was from respect for Giselle or fear of her, I couldn't tell. "The Luna... I was just trying... trying..." "For goddess's sake, Clarise, stop trying. How many tines have I told you that?" Even though Giselle's voice was stern, she didn't sound as awful as some of my teachers from school. "I just wanted to make sure the Luna was okay." The girl called Clarise said solemnly. "It's okay, Giselle.
IRIS. True to her words, Giselle delivered the detailed map to me about three hours later. She went overboard to the point of marking where each place that was guarded and when the switching of guards would take place. I smiled after studying the map and rolling it back. Luckily for me, the time when she delivered the letter of a map was late at night and also closed to the time when the switching of guards would happen. I quickly got out of the clothes Clarise had taken her time to dress me in for the supposed first dinner with the Alpha. I wore all black clothes to camouflage me into the night. Once I was done, I escaped through the window to my door in order not to alert anyone to my intention. I merged into the dark and immediately took the run for it in the first direction the map showed me to take. As Giselle predicted, the place was empty - probably because it was an open spot and the confidence that no one would dare try anything was there for that animal man. I didn't car
IRIS The miracle came in the form of a white wolf charging from the other side. I watched in horror as the white wolf charged at the first wolf it came across, then it rushed straight to the wolf that was trying to attack me. Seeing that two of their comrades were rapidly down, the three other wolves retreated immediately. Rather than let them go, the white wolf chased after them. I stood transfixed to a spot, unable to go after the wolves or even run for my life. It wasn't until I heard a scared whimper that my brain began to work again. I turned in the opposite direction the wolves raced to and ran for my life. I had barely covered a lot of distance when I felt something dragged me by the edge of my dress. I let out a loud cry, already knowing what it was. Just as expected, I saw a wolf - the white wolf - holding me back and preventing me from making a run for it. "Let me go, you monster!" I screamed, trying to free my dress from its fangs somehow. Still, the wolf held on even
DYLAN"Any other suggestions that would be useful to prevent the wild ones from attacking our people?" Coniel, one of the Alphas, questioned but was met by a deafening silence. We were all gathered in the Druid pack for a conference slated to help out packs. With my hand firmly rested on my jaw, I tried my utmost best to think of something. The attack of the wild ones had been going on for a very long time and so far, we have heard and received cases of people who had been attacked and hurt by them. The wild ones were werewolves who had lost their basic and moral instincts. They were fueled by rage and their purpose was basically to kill and destroy. Over time, we tried different strategies to stop the killings but to no avail."Why don't we gather troops and kill them off one after the other?" Aiden, another Alpha present at the meeting, voiced out his opinion, and the rest of the Alphas present chimed in agreement."But that would take days," I blurted out. "And the killings will st
Iris.I watched the Alpha Arnold walk in with the man who had refused to grace me with his presence for a few days now. I didn't know why, but I had gone from not wanting to have anything to do with the man to simply missing his presence around. But then again, as much as I missed his presence, there was still this warning in a part of my heart that kept telling me that I should not give him the chance to get too close with me. Otherwise, I would be playing with fire. I didn't even know what that was supposed to mean, but I wanted to pay attention to my sixth sense. In a way, it had helped helped me out of trouble.A sigh escaped my lips as I turned to pick up a handkerchief so that I would be able to wipe sweat off my face. I was alerted to how well I was healing now. If it was before, rather than that sigh that I let out, I was sure that it was going to either be a groan or it was going to be me being in tears from the excruciating pain that would take over me."Let me help with tha
Dylan.I woke up with my head banging hard like I had spent the entire night handling some dangerous mission that left my life on edge. I groaned as I got up from the bed and made my way to the...Wait? A bed? How had I gotten onto a bed? The last thing I remembered was Alpha Arnold trying to communicate with me and me rudely cutting him off. The events that follwed after that were a bit not so clear to me."Are you okay now?" I heard the gruff voice of the man I was just thinking about. I turned around and saw him sitting down on a chair, a book in hand - book that I was so sure he was not reading - and his attention duly focused on me. I looked around and saw that we were in the same hotel room we had gotten for almost a week in a row now. Or was it three days? My brain was still a bit foggy, so I couldn't think straight. But how? How did he end up being with me? Was he not supposed to be with Iris?"Is something wrong with Iris?" I asked him without even stopping to think."Oh, so
Alpha Dylan. Days after the doctor told me those words, my heart was no longer in the right places. I lost track of myself and barely managed to keep my shit together. The possibility that the woman might never remember who I was? How absurb! Except that I knew there was nothing absurb about the matter. In fact, since I got that revelation, my mind had been far away. Why?Because every time I stepped into Iris's room, I got that look that said that I was a nobody to her, so she couldn't overly be concerned about my presence. While I tried my best to act like the words and actions didn’t get to me whenever I was with her, once I was out of her room, my heart always sank down.It was so bad that even Arnold had begun to notice the difference to me. Now, I hadn't gone to the hospital for two days in a roll after telling Arnold to only contact me if there was something wrong or if my signature was needed for something. While I was at the hospital, I tried to urge the doctor to continue
Alpha Dylan. Just like the first time she would ever ask me that question, my mind still went blank again. How could she always ask me the same question every time she set her eyes on me?"Iris, it is me, Dylan," I said in a lame attempt to make her remember. The doctor came over to my side and moved around me to get to her. Once he was close, he began to examine her thoroughly. Unlike the first time, no one told me to move my ass out of the way. I waited, watching as the doctor used some sort of touch to check her eyeballs, roamed his fingers in front of her, and asked her a few questions also."How do you feel now?" He asked when he was done with his examination. He had his hand on the report card that was always seated at the edge of the bed. "A bit of a headache and pain," Iris mumbled out. "Dry throat also." She added after a while. The doctor nodded and wrote some things in the card. Once he returned the card back to the usual position, he turned to look at me first, then bac
Alpha Dylan.I rushed into the hospital the next day, a few minutes past 10 in the morning. Or was it 11 AM already?I had no idea that I was extremely tired until after I got to the hotel, took a long needed shower, sank into bed and just dozed off instantly. The only thing that was not making me panic was the fact that there was no call from Arnold yet, which could only mean that Iris was fine."Good morning, sir." The receptionist, whom I didn't bother to find out her name, said to me as a form of greeting when she saw me. I nodded my head to her before letting out a short, "good morning to you, too." And then, I was rushing to get to the ICU so I would be able to see Iris for myself. "Arnold, how is she?" I called when I got closed enough for him to hear me."You are here." He said gently. He was standing close to the glass area, almost as if he was just checking her out. "There has been no casualty since you left. In fact, she opened her eyes about three times already, but they
Alpha Dylan.Five days of no show. Five days of no reactions. Five whole days of waiting for a miracle.Iris had not shown any form of life or even danger ever since she got wheeled into the operation room for over five days now. At a point, I became so worried about her state of just lying down, looking almost lifeless. I didn't know if I should be worried about that or if it was a good news in itself. The doctor had told me that she was responding to treatment, and it was good that she was not showing any reason for crisis as that could be bad for her. Now, I was just standing outside the ICU section she was put in and watching her through the glass wall. The first day after she got in here, I visited her for the number of times allowed. The second day, I did the same. The third day, I came in once and allowed Arnold to use the second time. The fourth time, I couldn't find the courage in me to go in there and look at her when she looked like she was in a lot of pain, if the way she
Giselle."He failed," I muttered to Juliana the moment I got into the mansion and settled on the couch in the living room. I didn't need to tell her some more about whoever it was who failed. From the way she gasped softly, I knew that she already knew just exactly who I was talking about."I never thought he would ever fail." The maid said as a way of response.I never thought that he could either. From the way the man had handled me and the ruthless edge he had around him, I had been so sure that Beta Daniel would not have been able to survive an attack from the rogue. But somehow, that hope had been dashed."He did injure Beta Daniel heavily, though." I sighed as I remembered just how bloodied the man had been. Heck, he had even given the authority to someone else because he needed to recuperate completely. If only the rogue had managed to deal one deathly blow to the man, all my problems would be solved by now."Maybe Beta Daniel had someone help him out of the blue? Perhaps that
Beta Daniel. I hurried back to the pack, my blood still dripping from my injured arm to my shirt and trousers. In fact, I purposely held the arm over the clothing so that the blood would drip more on them, and it would look like I was injured in more places than just the arm.The moment I got to the gate, I was stopped by the guards who immediately camouflaged around me whole looking around, their swords ready just in case there was a danger lurking around."At ease," I said, making my voice sound low and disgruntled. "I made sure to lose the man before coming back to the pack," I told them. It would do no good to deliberately make them worry when I knew that all was well.Or could it not be?For all I knew, the other man could have played on my intelligence and was just waiting for the right time to strike me. Or maybe he was even interested in invading the pack and dominating it so that he would be the new Alpha."Still, do not let your guards down," I said as an afterthought. Afte
Beta Daniel. I was still lost in my thoughts and concern for the pack that I almost didn't notice that I was already in the forest which bordered the two packs. A squirrel made a sound, and I paused as I looked at a tree and saw the said squirrel trying to get some kind of fruit which looked like nut. Or more like trying to crack it. An army of ant interrupted the squirrel on the mission it was after. The squirrel, sad that his mission was intercepted, raced from the branch of the tree to another in order to get the ants to leave him, still holding on to rhe nut like it's light depended on it.I laughed at the small event I had just witnessed. I tsked and ignored the squirrel and the ants and began to make my way back to the pack. I tensed when I noticed that there was a movement behind me.It was the same kind of walking pattern I had noticed before when I was going over to Alpha Arnold's pack. I doubted if it was the guards of the pack or any pack for that matter since this part of
