Zane’s POV

Later that evening, my legs subconsciously brought me in front of Tessa’s room.

After much contemplation, I finally decided to knock on her door and see her again after avoiding her for a couple of days on the premise that I had some investigation I had to do.

Tessa opened the door wider to let me in, and I immediately took in her sheer, silken nightgown that ended mid-thigh and provided an alluring outline of her figure.

I shook my head as if I could throw out the unholy thoughts entering my mind at the sight of her like that. After firmly reminding myself that now was not the time, I went past her to the couch a few feet away from her bed and sat on it.

Nodding my head, I signaled her to sit wherever she wanted, even though the mere sight of her made my body instantly hot, desiring for her.

“I need to talk to you.”

Sitting down, she crossed her arms and looked at me annoyingly. “Oh, now, you want to talk? After like… avoiding me for so long like I’m some kind of plague?”

Tessa’s POVAfter the guard interrupted us to get Zane’s attention, I went back to my room for a quick shower and dressed before going down for breakfast.I’d had some coffee before coming down to train with Zane but after expending all that energy, I was practically starving.I made my way down the stairs and paused at the last step, watching in confusion as a group of maids hurried down the hall, looking harried and stressed. Unsure of what was wrong and hoping it was nothing, I followed them to the kitchen. The servants I passed nodded at me, all seeming in an immense hurry as they quickly went about their business, not even pausing to spare me a glance. The scents reached me from the kitchen even before I opened the door. My mouth watered, my stomach letting out a healthy growl in anticipation of the deliciously scenting meal I was heading towards.Tara was inside, and she was the only one who looked directly at me as I entered. The others were mumbling greetings and doing their b

Tesaa’s POVThere were several beats of silence after I sat down. All eyes, including Eric’s, trained on me.I tried not to let it bother me, but I could almost feel their collective disapproval bleeding into their gazes. I didn’t dare raise my head, even when I felt Eric’s wolf calling to me. I was too afraid to face all that annoyance. Far too cowardly to square up against Alphas like these, and my wolf instinctively knew this.“So, gentlemen, I believe we’re all wondering why we are here?” Zane started, and I felt, rather than saw, all eyes turn to him, freeing me from the weight of their oppressive gaze. Only then did I have the guts to peer up over the table, relieved to see their attention now on the King.“To satisfy your curiosity—”The sound of a throat clearing made him pause, and Zane’s sharp gaze flew down the table, pinning the Alpha responsible for the sound.A large man with a thick, brown beard and an intimidating glower leaned forward, staring down the table at Zane,

Zane’s POVI didn’t know what I was thinking when I pulled Tessa into me. All I knew was that it displeased me to hear her go on and on about wanting that asshole. The thought of another man being with her was activating my possessiveness. After all, I was never one to share.I wanted to change that, so I’d done the first thing I could think of, and that was to grab her so I could kiss her senselessly and wipe away all thoughts of Eric. I wanted to replace them with only me.She stiffened at first, and I wondered if she’d made a mistake until she melded into my body with a moan that I found too sexy to back away from. I growled low in my throat, my need driving me to pull her even closer to me until she was pressed flush against my body.My hands slid down her shoulders to the small of her back, a pleased little sound falling from my lips when she shivered at my touch.I slid my hands lower, down over the curve of her waist and the delicate swelling of her hips. And then, without warn

Tessa’s POVI couldn’t believe Zane kissed me like that, nor could I understand why. It had been so sudden, yet so perfect. I wanted to do it again, even though the very thought made me blush. He hadn’t gone too far, but he’d made my lips feel plundered after only a few minutes.Even now, almost an hour after he’d left, I could still feel my lips tingling, the memory of his mouth ravaging my own still fresh in my mind. He’d told me to rest, but even though I’d climbed my bed, I couldn’t get any sleep. I tossed and turned, thoughts of him alone assaulting my mind.My wolf agitated within me, stirred up by the heat in Zane’s kiss, all the while refusing to wind down even hours later.I found Zane very attractive, and there was no denying that. After all, he was so hot he could burn the pants off a nun.As much as I was drawn to him, I didn’t understand why my wolf seemed to be so affected by him. After all, he wasn’t my mate.It was strange, to say the least, I never reacted like that t

Tessa’s POVFred blinked, dumbfounded at my proclamation, but thankfully, went along with it anyway. He nodded at Eric and gave him a bright smile.“And coincidentally, I was just looking for you too, Alpha Eric. The Lycan King would like to see you.”I stiffened, guilt and worry hitting me at once, and glanced back to Eric. He nodded calmly, an unreadable look on his face. Once his eyes met mine, I blushed before snapping my gaze away again.“Thanks for the tip, Doc,” Eric murmured as he walked past me, and I shifted uncomfortably, doing my best to ignore him. It was pretty hard, considering I could feel his eyes on me the entire time.I gave Fred a strained smile that dropped immediately. Eric disappeared out of sight. Just as I opened my mouth to produce an excuse, he grinned so blindly at me that I paused and blinked.“Ditching the big important meeting so you can roam the house? Wouldn’t have pegged you for a truant, Tess.”Relieved that he had chosen to ignore whatever that thin

Zane’s POVFred strode into my office without knocking and pulled up short at Morgan’s presence there. She was just about to leave, and after an amused, baiting glance at him, she gathered her purse and brushed past him before slipping out of the room. After she left and closed the door behind her, Fred gave me a pointed look but said nothing of her presence here. Still, it was clear from his expression that he was displeased.“I got your message,” he said instead, walking further inside.“Oh, is that why you didn’t knock?” I grumbled, not really offended but desiring to give him shit for it.“Oh, my bad. If I’d known I was interrupting something, I would have barged in sooner.”I rolled my eyes and pushed a folder full of files across the table towards him.“I need you to go through this.” I started, ignoring the frown on his face that I was certain was entirely because of Morgan.“Does it have information on why you won't just end things with that woman and stay away from her?”“No.

Tessa’s POVI leaned against one of the tables at the corner of the room with champagne in one hand and a cookie in the other. My heart was a wild stallion galloping in my chest, a result of Fred’s death-defying activity. ‘Who in their right mind enjoys a thrill like that?’If only Tara hadn’t come to my room and told me I needed to stay at this party, I would still be there trying to calm down and relax. But no, so here I was, enduring this boring party where I could understand nothing!Taking a sip of the champagne, I instantly felt a burning sensation crawling in my throat, instantly regretting trying an alcoholic drink. As if my body had been burnt by it, I immediately placed it back on one of the nearby tables and munched on the desserts.I was on my third cookie when my heartbeat stopped, and I instantly felt restless. That profound and intoxicating mint scent reached my nostrils, dwelling me in to follow it.Fisting my hand on my dress onto my side, I fought the urge of the one

Tessa’s POVI turned around and looked at the man. He had tan skin and was bulkier than most of the Alpha’s in the room.I’d say he’s probably in his late 40s by his looks.“Well, your name? It’s not so respectful to make an alpha wait, now is it?” he asked again, sounding like a predator taunting its prey.He took a step forward, dominance radiating all over him, making me subconsciously stumble back against the wall.I swallowed, replying in a trembling voice, “I… Y-yes, I am. Alpha.”Goosebumps rushed over me as I looked into his dark and deep eyes. Fear crawled in my soul from that unknown glint in his eyes filled with fury I had never seen before. My heart was pounding so hard in my chest, far worse than when I first learned I was being taken by the Dark Lord, who everyone feared. He squinted his eyes together, scrutinizing me. “Do you know?”Veins were popping on his neck, and his teeth gritted together. Trembling a little, I shook my head. “N-no… I-I don’t.”Well, it was the tr

Jessica’s POVI momentarily halted from my steps as soon as I heard his words. My entire body became tense as I asked myself if I heard it right. He’s Zane. He’s the King of this entire kingdom and was known for being the Devil Lord. Above all, everyone feared him – so much that some of the packs he attacked gave up their own Luna for their safety as Eric did.“He hasn't done that. Not since he met you…” my wolf pointed out, making my heart beat wildly.“It’s just a coincidence. Maybe he was really done already,” I replied before momentarily closing my eyes and calming myself.“Come on, no time to slack off!”Wendell’s shout unfazed me, and I opened my eyes to see the kingdom’s warriors running in line.Right, it’s time for their training.Shaking off the feelings brought my Zane, which confused my mind and brought emotions I didn’t want to develop. I kept my head held high and decided to brush off his words.“Fall in line, everyone! Today, I want each of you to pick a partner. I’ll o

Zane’s POVIn the end, I couldn’t do anything. After all, no matter how much I wanted to stop her from her recklessness, I couldn’t push too much as she was no longer under my wings.“It started as a game. You treated her as a toy. Did it become so real now?” my wolf teased, but that question completely caught me off guard.I brushed him off in annoyance and went back to my office with annoyance. To my surprise, as soon as I woke up the following day, I learned that Jess was already starting her training again, as if she wasn’t unconscious in the clinic yesterday. My heart clenched with a mixture of many emotions I couldn’t understand – fear, worry, annoyance, frustration, and so many more. I was leaning against one of the trees and staring at her training with the other White Clans. She’s sparring fiercely with Tyrone, and I must admit that her sharp and precise attacks were admirable.I crossed my arms over my shoulders as I kept my focus on her, watching her every breath of exhaust

Jessica’s POVI stirred on the hard bed, trying to get up from my sleep - or so I thought…As soon as I tried to get up, I felt the stings cursing through my body. My eyelids were heavy, and I couldn’t help the moan that escaped my lips as I forced my body to make some shift in position.“What the—" I gasped as I opened my eyes, greeted by the blinding light and white ceiling above me.Furrowing my brows, I blinked a couple of times and tried to re-adjust my vision.“Jess! Are you okay? How are you feeling? Does anything hurt?” I heard a thousand questions bombarding me, but all of their words seemed muffled in my mind, and I was not yet fully adjusted to my surroundings.I raised my arm and held my head as a scrutinizing pain blew my mind, and all the information of what happened rushed through me. Then, fumes of madness boiled through my veins as I remembered how Alpha Ralph was almost within my reach and still managed to escape.“Anastasha… He… I…” I tried to reach for Anastasha an

Zane’s POVMy steps halted when I heard Wendell’s dictative voice. Though the White Clan hadn’t been here long, I observed them long enough to know how they roll.Despite their ranks, they all respect each other and rarely pull ranks on each other. They were more of a family. But right now, Wendell’s voice was so deep and full, laced with a threatening roar.He wasn’t asking. He’s demanding an answer. His voice greatly affected them, and the atmosphere suddenly changed. The other White Clan members stood still in silence.Anastasha looked down at the ground while fisting her hand into a ball so tight that blood started dripping from her palms as her long nails embedded in her skin.Shifting my head just a little bit to pick, I watched them in the shadows.Wendell stepped forward, his face only two inches away from Anastasha. She tried to shift her head away, but he only leaned closer to her, leaving her no room to move.“Speak!” he shouted.“I can’t… I promised her.”By this time, Ana

Zane’s POV“Who is that?” That was my first question when I arrived downstairs and had a vivid vision of who Tyrone was carrying. It turned out to be a Rogue who was almost on the brink of death. My brows furrowed. “What happened? And where’s Te—Jessica?”I looked around but couldn't see her, which only added to my fast-beating heart's worry, especially when I realized there were only three.Hansel, who was usually with Jess, was not here, and so was Anastasha, who was not only a tracker but also the one who gave them first aid.Did something happen to her? Was it bad?“Bring him to the torture room.” Wendell gestured for Tyrone to move forward, and he did so without glancing at me. Lyndon followed him.I followed them with my eyes as anxiety rose in me. Lyndon was the goofiest one among them. But now, he looked extremely serious and cold, like an invincible fire was surrounding him.Even the Omegas lurking around felt the blazing fire of fury radiating around him as they hastily move

Jessica's POVFury and disappointment surged all over me while I watched Alpha Ralph slowly vanish from my eyes. One inch! My arm was outstretched in the air and just one inch away from gasping his hand, but I still failed.I never felt more disappointed and blameful toward myself right now than ever.My chest rose and fell heavily as I looked down on the cliff, which was covered with mist below. I vowed, "I'll find you, Alpha Ralph, and once I do, I'll make sure you pay for everything you did.""Great, just what I needed," I commented after turning around and finding about ten members of Silver Rogues surrounding me.At least I got someone I could vent all the fuming rage building up on me.Stretching my neck, I swiveled my Scimitars and pointed at them. "What are you here for?"They still had their masks on, hiding their face. Looking at each other, they nodded, and I knew instantly that talking with them would be a waste of time. Most of them pulled out knives or swords. Still, the

She was fuming mad. Her cheeks were puffed, her eyes were sending lasers, and she pointed a finger at where Tessa was earlier. For three years, she stayed in this pack, and I let her. But with all those years, she never had the same effect as Tessa had on me. She couldn't make me feel excited or eager to pull her close to me.Seeing her only makes me more annoyed than ever."Zane! Are you hearing me?" Morgan snapped her fingers at me, looking at me with blame."Why are you here?" I impatiently asked before turning around and going back to my work. It's better for me to drown myself in work before I lose control and run after Tessa… Jessica…'How could you change so my, Tess?' That question kept bothering me, but she was right. She's not u

Jessica’s POVThree years agoI woke up from the coldness that touched my skin. Moaning in pain that’s radiating all over my body, I slowly opened my eyes. It's been three days since the White Clan found me. Because I didn’t have my wolf yet, my healing process from thee beatings and the impact on the water was still almost fresh in my body and I’ve been on bed rest since then.“Don’t move, you’ll reap open your stitches.” I heard that she’s Anastasha and that she’s the best tracker in the group.Because she’s also the only woman in the clan, she’s the one who has been taking care of me. Although she seemed distant and was acting a bit of a bitch, I could feel that she actually cared more than she let on.“I…” I tried to speak but instead of words, all that came out of my lips was moaning as I felt the bruises on my body. She raised her eyebrow at me, finishing re-dresing my wounds. Standing up, she said, “Do us both a favor and don’t try to speak if you still can’t handle it.”‘And t

Jessica’s POVAlthough Anastasha would act like a bitch most of the time, we all knew that it was just her mask to protect her fragile heart. After the tragedy she experienced before, being betrayed by her own mate who killed her entire pack, I salute her for being so strong and brave.Despite that, she could still love and express it.“Just because she wasn’t whining or being dramatic like most girls doesn’t mean she isn’t hurting,” I told Wendell. He leaned back on his chair. “She isn’t serious. She’s just being like that to cope with everything.”I huffed and looked at him in disbelief. Shaking my head, I affirmed Anastasha’s earlier words. “She’s right. You have a heart of stone.”“Enough of that! Why did you come here?”I squinted my eyes and walked toward the sofa, sitting on it. He’s definitely avoiding the topic.Because of his usual stoic facial expression, even though I’ve been serving with him for three years, I still couldn’t read him enough to know whether he had feelings
