Chapter 6

I was dumbfounded when Canon said that. I can't describe how I felt. I felt like my heart was broken into pieces. I know he's rude but I sometimes wish that he will eventually change his personality. I know I needed to endure the pain I'm feeling right now.

We rode back home in his car, and none of us talk for the whole ride. I just kept my mouth shut, I don't have any strength to keep up with his rudeness right now. I just sit there while looking through the car's window. I'm sightseeing the view outside, there are different lights from the stores and buildings we see along the way.

I smiled to myself when I remember my precious time with Daddy. We used to stroll around the road at night and look for cheap food. I can remember how simple our life is, now we can't predict what will happen next.

I lose myself and drown in sleep. I was awakened by the man's voice.

“Wake up!” He shouted. I was shocked by the tone of his voice. It was none other than, Canon. He left me there the moment he saw that I'm already awake. I didn't immediately follow him. I don't want to eat dinner with him.

I just sat outside in the garden. I took the flowers I plant last week. They were growing beautifully. I want to plant, it gives me a chill. The thought of them growing healthy and beautiful makes me feel at ease. I smiled while touching their petals.

I heard Tessa call me so I came inside the mansion. I met the familiar gaze, Canon look at me blankly. I shifted my gaze and look away. I immediately go to my room. I just took a bath and fall asleep. I didn't bother eating dinner. I'm sure Canon is there.

I woke up around 6:00 am. I switch off my alarm and ready myself for work today. I know Canon will go to work around 7:00 am since he's in the gym right now. I quickly changed and came early to the office without him. I also switch off the phone he gave me. I continue all the paper works I didn't finish yesterday since Canon didn't let me.

“Hi! I'm Janice!” A fine lady came in front of me and wave his hand. I quickly extend my hand.

“I'm Mallory, nice to meet you!” I also introduced myself. She sat in the vacant sit in front of my desk.

“I heard that you're the new secretary of Mr. Stutter. How was it? He's scary isn't he?” She excitedly asks. I didn't feel any awkwardness. She looks nice.

“Yes, he's rude.” I honestly answered. She snapped her fingers.

“Right! That's what I expect!” She said as if she knew it already. Maybe, she does know Canon as their boss who's rude and demanding. I can't blame them.

I received a call and she told me that she will be back to work.

“Hello, Mallory speaking,” I answered through the telephone.

“Come to my office. NOW.” Canon commanded. I felt my body tremble at the tone of his voice. I sighed while walking to his office. I'm scared, I know that he's different when he's mad. I knock on the door and I came in.

“You didn't bother to wait for me. You came alone or does Elvis pick you up?” He accused. My eyes widen in disbelief. How could he accuse me like that?

“You and your false accusations! I'm a married woman and I know my limitations. Even if this is just a marriage for convenience I still value my dignity as a woman!” I said angrily. You can be rude to me all you want but I will never tolerate such acts without any valid evidence.

I left his office and continue my work while crying. I'm such a crybaby even though they knew me as a strong woman. I did experience many difficulties in life but never did I let anyone degrade me just because of my status in life. We don't need to drag any person down because you're fortunate enough to live your life. You have everything that other people dream of. You must know how to put yourself in someone's shoes. You must understand them.

“Lory! Are you alright?” Elvis asked. I wiped my tears away and smiled at him.

“I'm fine as hell! I just watch a movie and I can't myself but feel emotional. What are you doing here?” I asked while smiling. Pretend.

“Are you sure? I can't see any happiness in your eyes.” He said as if examining my face.

“No! I'm really fine! I am easily attached to movies so much. I love watching movies.” I said. He nodded and smiled eventually.

“So can we go out for a movie night?” He asked while smiling. I felt sad because I will get more accusations from Canon. We didn't do anything bad so we aren't deserving of receiving such words. I declined his offer and he looks so sad.

“Maybe next time?” He asked. I just nodded even if I don't think I can come with him. I'm trying to keep my promise to Canon that I will never cheat while we're still married. I don't have any rights yet to flirt with any guy.

“Are you single? I'm sorry but I think I might be crossing the line?” He asked sounding apologetic.

“Yes, but I can't accept any relationships yet. I'm just starting to build my career.” I said. I lied because Canon doesn't want others to know about our arrangement. I will be keeping this a secret since I'm being paid. Maybe in two years, we will eventually part ways.

He smiled and bid his goodbye since he has some errands to do. I immediately saw Canon standing right after Elvis left my office.

“Why did you reject his offer?” He asked. I gasped at the sudden question he asked. I don't know how to answer it.
