The Donor

RYAN

I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that the woman I loved had kidney failure. My eyes darted between Jasmine, who was lying weakly on the bed, and the doctor who was standing in front of me.

"What do you mean by she has kidney failure? But she only fell into the pool," I let out. I was just trying to know why she had something so critical when she only fell into the pool.

"Uhm... Mr. Ryan. Miss Jasmine has been having the symptoms before today, but the way she fell into the pool suddenly caused more harm to her. That was what prompted the diagnosis," the doctor explained, and I could feel anger coursing through my body like fire on dried leaves.

To cut the long story short, Lexi, that bastard was the reason My Jasmine had a kidney failure. I am not going to forgive that bitch. She is going to rot in the cell and will never be saved by me.

"How much do you need to take care of her? I wanted her treated today. Find another kidney for her in an hour," I ordered, suppressing the inexplicable fury burning up my belly. My voice was hoarse, and I could feel the atmosphere of the room slowly becoming cold. I didn't need to be told that it was coming from me before I knew that.

"I... I am sorry, Mr. Ryan, but we cannot do anything without finding a donor. I know, but isn't your problem, but we need someone who can donate one of their kidneys so that we could begin the kidney transplant," the doctor explained professionally.

"So? Since you know money is not the problem, then get a donor immediately. I am ready to pay a fortune for it. I just want my darling to be saved," I let out in an authoritative tone, squeezing Jasmine's hand softly.

"I... We don't have any donors available right now. We are going to add her to the list and wait till we find a donor. I don't know how fast that would be, but I hope it wouldn't be too late," he told me.

"What! So... There's no way to do that today?" I asked, different emotions swirling in my eyes. I was angry, frustrated, and scared. All this is happening because of Lexi, that idiot who is forcing herself on me.

The doctor shook his head negatively. "The only way we can do that is if someone close to the both of you can donate one of his or her kidneys. That's the fastest and easiest way." The doctor made it clear. Like a fool, I sprang up and held his hands.

"You can use mine, doc. Just do whatever you can to save my fiancee. I'm very sure that you can use mine," I urged him with a pleading expression. All I needed was a way to save Jasmine. I don't think I can live well without her.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Ryan. Yours is not compatible with hers." The doctor announced, ruining the only hope I had. My eyes blink incessantly. I have never been this helpless in my whole life. What do I do? How do I save Jasmine?

Deep in thought, I felt a soft hand tugging on my hand, and that made me tilt my head to the side. Jasmine was gesturing to bring my face closer, which I did with alacrity.

She tried standing up, but I held her back, caressing her shoulders soothingly. "You don't have to stress yourself, Jasmine. What is it? What do you have to say? What do you want?"

"I don't want to die, Ryan. Please, don't let me die." She stuttered in a raspy voice. I saw tears lingering in her eyes, and that added to the horrible feelings inside of me. I couldn't do this. I couldn't watch the woman I love suffer.

"I am going to save you, Jasmine. Nothing is going to happen to you. I want you to trust me. I will do everything I can," I assured her with a half smile, which she returned wearily.

"Please, Ryan. I don't care who you get it from. Be it Lexi or... Lexi or anybody," she stated with her breath covering her voice. I didn't want to imagine what she must be feeling inwardly. The pains. The discomfort. And it's all because of Jasmine.

Yeah! Speaking of which, Lexi... Lexi. Gosh! Why didn't I think about that earlier? I don't care if she had a kidney or two; she needs to clear up the mess she created. She will be the one to donate the kidney Jasmine needs.

Like a spell, I sprang up, pressed my lips on Jasmine's forehead, and said, "You will be fine, baby. Lexi will give you her kidney. I will bring her right now."

A drop of tears fell from her eye at my statement, which got me confused and afraid. "What... Have I said something wrong? Are you hurting anywhere?"

She pursed her lips that were trembling due to the urge to burst into tears. Slowly, she shook her head. "No! I just feel like bad person. I am about to take one of your wife's kidneys," she said.

OMG! This is the reason Jasmine is different and better than Lexi. Despite being in a critical condition, she was still watching out for others. She wasn't greedy or selfish. I was very certain that Lexi wouldn't have an iota of empathy if she was the one in her position.

"Shsssh!" I placed a finger on her lips. "You are not a bad person, Jasmine. You are a good woman. And do not call that witch my wife. She is just a desperate gold digger. You don't need to pity her, Jasmine. She is the reason you are in this position, so the least she could do is to give you one of her kidneys." I let her know, but instead her tears persisted.

"Thank you, Ryan. I am sorry for causing you trouble," she let out with sincerity glistening in her eyes, and that warmed my heart. I didn't know why grandmother refused to see that Jasmine is the best woman for me. Not Lexi or some other women.

"You don't need to say that. You've never been a trouble or problem. I will be right back. Please, hold yourself till I return," I mumbled with a relieving smile, squeezed her gently on her shoulder, and walked out of the private ward. I need to go and get Lexi, that bastard. She has to clean up the mess she created with her desperation.

However, as soon as Ryan walked out of the room, Jasmine removed the IV drip that was inserted in her hand, jumped out of bed, and captured the doctor's lips with hers.
