Chase

I was still stunned at seeing my mate somehow conjure fire from her hands. I knew she had Astrydian abilities, but that one was rare from what I had been told.

We would talk about it all later, especially the trancelike state that I found her in. For now, there was other business to attend to.

As we walked through the door to the office, Lyse immediately took to her mother’s side.

“Are you alright, Mom?”, she asked, concern marring her features as she knelt down next to Carolina.

“Yes, I just…”, she stopped, looking up at Chase, a mixture of curiosity and anger flitting through her gaze.

“What’s going on?”, Lyse asked, looking back and forth between her parents.

“I see you’ve let the cat out of the bag.”, I said, looking at Merrick.

He at least had the decency to look a little embarrassed.

“I thought I should at least give her a head’s up, Your Highness.”, he said.

“Dylan or Chase, please. We’re family and not in public.”, I replied.

“Again, what’s going on?”, Lyse asked, looki
