______

Just like every other morning, the sun passing through the curtain was what woke me from my sleep. Sun had always attacked my sleep, so yeah, I was used to this. Although I had tossed the blanket over my head, sleep didn't want me any longer. I guessed it was time to wake up.

Lazily, I sat up straight, blinking like a confused animal.

"Morning to you." Mona sat on her bed, smiled at me, then focused on the pancake in her hands.

I yawned. "Morning to you too. You're good?"

She nodded, her mouth filled with pancakes.

I scratched my hair, gazing at her, contemplating on whether or not to ask her what I wanted to. She probably noticed how crazily I stared at her, which made her eyebrows quirk at me.

"You're okay?" She asked.

I chuckled weirdly. "Um, did you prepare some pancakes for me?"

"You're a joker." She hissed. "You know the rules. Stop being hopeful every morning. No combination in here, kk? Get up, prepare breakfast yourself."

I sighed. "Whatever."

This was the reason I missed my old roomies. Whenever I thought about them, it made me realize that those ladies weren't my friends, but the sisters I never had. Mona couldn't be compared to them at all.

In the first semester of this session, I had to move to a different dorm. Of course, I couldn't stay alone in a room.

Barb was working in Canada, so there was a low probability I would ever get to see her again. Bella on the other hand, lived with Jason. Since they were going to have their baby in a few weeks, they were engaged, planning to get married soon. And, as for Virg, she was still taking severe treatments. Life was hard and sad without them, but I guessed I just had to move on.

Speaking of Roy, I didn't know what was into him, but I kind of noticed he was being weird these days. Yes, we weren't staying together, but that didn't mean he should act weirdly towards me. But anyways, it seemed like his work made him so busy and exhausted.

I missed them all. Although it had been six months since they all left, aside from Roy, I still wasn't used to their absence. My new group of friends were overly serious at times. I just wished to return to that old, cool and fun lifestyle.

Exhausted, I stood up from the bed, frowning at myself. "I seriously don't get what your problem is. Cooking breakfast for me won't hurt you, right?" I lamented to Mona.

"My problem?" She scoffed. "Please, the person who's got a problem is you."

"But you know I'm always busy!" I snarled. "There's never enough time to cook breakfast. And, there's also no time to stop by a store to get something to eat. This isn't fair."

She rolled her eyes. "Blah blah blah. Just go to school, and leave me alone."

I hissed at her. Taking my phone to check what time it was, I couldn't stop glaring. But, when a text message notification popped out on its screen, my eyes widened, my lips curled into a small smile, and the anger I felt vanished.

It was Roy. He had finally replied to my text. What a relief.

“Hey,

I'll be coming over this evening. Let's meet at Lawrence by seven. I'll pick you up from there.”

I couldn't help but squeal like a blushing teenager. To be frank, I had thought something was going on with him. Although Jason had assured me that Roy was completely fine, I had still had some doubts. But now that he had texted me back, I felt so much better.

Also, I couldn't wait to see him. I wanted to pull his ears, throw punches against his arms, scold him for making me this worried.

"What's up with you?" Mona asked.

I glimpsed at her, grinning. "No big deal. I'm only a bit glad about something."

"Whatever." She flapped her hand at me. Standing up, she headed straight to the kitchen. And, noticing she wasn't around me any longer, I jumped on my bed, threw a pillow against my face, squealed further.

Finally, I was going to see my man after five to six weeks. This felt so unreal. Lucky for me, today was Friday, which meant I would be able to spend the weekend with him. So good!

Staring up at the ceiling, I sighed. I missed him so much. Those blue eyes, lips, smile, and every other feature he possessed. I only hoped he wasn't going to be moody or something. I definitely wouldn't permit any crazy attitude from him.

Still daydreaming, I headed to the bathroom.

Tim and Ginger argued over the same thing for the one hundredth time. Walking with people like them could get anyone frustrated, but yes, I was used to their craziness. They never agreed on anything, which got me dazed. Why would anyone argue with each other this much?

"You never wanna admit I'm right!" Ginger cried, glared at him, hissed.

I rolled my eyes and sighed. "Guys, you're in a public place. Keep your nerves down."

"Tell him to shut up," she commanded, glowering at me like I was the one who caused a problem here.

"And why should I?" Tim rebuked.

I shook my head. "You're both weird. Just stop now."

"Annoying woman," Tim remarked, and moved his gaze from her.

She mumbled at herself, but Tim and I ignored her. She was obviously the problematic one here. Crazy youths.

"Alright guys." I sighed, turned around to face them. "Um, I wanna meet someone at Lawrence. You both should keep going, okay?"

Ginger snorted. "Keep going? I don't wanna walk home with this annoying dude."

"Huh?" Tim glared down at her. "Wh-What the heck?"

I sighed. "You know what? I should just leave you both. You're wasting my time."

"What?" She dropped her jaw, squeezing her face as if she got injected. "N-No. You can't—"

"Bye." I cut her off, turned around, walked towards the huge glass door of the restaurant I was heading to.

Heaving a deep sigh, I opened the door gently, and walked in. For some reason, I was nervous. Nervous to probably see Roy. What the heck? Wasn't Roy the same dude? Why was I feeling this way?

I settled on one of the seats in there, just close to the glass wall that held a view of the streets. Tapping my feet against the floor, trying to keep calm, trying to be patient, a waiter walked to me.

He smiled from ear to ear, his eyes beaming so much pleasure. "Good evening, ma'am. What will you like to order?"

"Oh, thanks." I smiled back at him. "But, I won't be ordering anything. I'll be here for only a short while."

"No problem," he said, and walked away.

Again, I sighed. Taking my phone to check what time it was, I groaned on seeing it was past seven. Why wasn't he here yet! When was this man going to come? Didn't he know I missed him so much?

Drained, I knocked my forehead against the table, hoping to have him around soon. As I did so, the sound of a woman's heels crinkled against the floor, and I could sense whoever was wearing it was walking towards me. I wanted to raise my head from the table, but well, no one would just sit on the same table I was, without being permitted to.

But, feeling someone crumpling on the other side of the table, I slowly raised my head. That was rude. Why would anyone sit there without asking me if the space was already taken?

I had a little frown on my face, ready to talk to whoever that was. But, seeing this woman, my heart throbbed against my chest. Woah, woah, what? How did she get here?

"M-Mrs. Everett?" I couldn't get a grip of myself. All I could wonder was how she had travelled all the way here.

She had a stern look on. What I could read from her eyes was hatred. Of course, she looked super rich. She had makeup on, her dress looked expensive, and her hair was styled neatly. But, what surprised me was why she looked this exhausted.

"Yes." She cleared her throat, her jaw clenched. "Mrs. Everett. Roy's mom."

I swallowed. Her tone was scary. What did she want to say?

"Why are you here? I mean, it's kind of… weird," I said.

Her face gleamed in uninterest to anything around her. It was as if she was ready to shun me irrespective of what I had to say. What was with this woman? Did she think she was God? So annoying.

"Good question." She dropped her hands on the table, her eyes intently on me. "I'm here to end it all."

My heart raced. I felt like my organs were squirming around my stomach, my lungs being pierced. What did she mean by that? Was she planning to separate her son from me? Or, did she mean she wanted to end the hatred she had for me? What was going on?

I chuckled nervously. "I don't get that. Wh-What do you mean?"

"You heard me clearly." She raised a brow at me, flared her nostrils, a little glare swimming on her face. "I'm here to send you away. You're going to leave my son, and that's final. Else, you'll get arrested."

I narrowed my eyes at her, shaken. "What?" That came out in a whisper.

She nodded gently. "I'm speaking with all of me. I'm so serious right now. Renee, you're leaving my son, and that's it."

Tears formed in my eyes. The anger, hatred and seriousness in her voice was enough proof that she wasn't joking. What was this woman's problem? What would she gain?

  • Chasing Her   Epilogue

Renee______My hands tugged against the guardrails of the bed I was laid on. This pain? I hadn't ever experienced such physical pain in my entire life. At this moment, I appreciated my mom more than ever before."Ah!" My voice didn't come from my vocal cord, it came all the way from my abdomen, went through my lungs, then escaped via my lips. This pain felt like death."It'll be fine." Roy caressed my hair, seeming so worried."Push!" The nurse cried."Lord, help me!" I screamed further, trying to catch my breath, weeping so hard. A loud high-pitched sound banged in my ears, my head felt heavy, my body was full of discomfort. He pecked my forehead. "A little more effort, okay? Just a few more pushes.""A little more force needed," the nurse announced.&nb

  • Chasing Her   Fifty one: Fate

I held mom's hand tight, so worried. It had been up to an hour since she woke up, yet she wasn't saying anything to me. She only continued to weep hard, harder than I had ever seen. I had asked her a couple of questions, but got no reply."I can't believe this," she finally spoke.I shifted closer to her, cupped her hand tighter. "I don't get what's going on. Please, say something to me."She finally looked at me. "That's John. That's… your father."I gave her a neutral expression, not knowing what to say or do. My father? The man who had died since I was a baby? Wait, what? Was this a world of fantasy? How in the world did he wake up from the dead?"Mom, that's Pablo. Are you sure you aren't seeing things?" I bit my lower lip when I said that. She sighed. "I don't even know how to react to this. It feels so… unreal. I'm sure S

  • Chasing Her   Fifty: What?!

"Roy, come downstairs!" I cried, grumbling and frowning at myself. Goodness knew what he was doing up there. "Do you want your food to get cold? Don't make me come there and break your bones!""I'm coming, ma'am." He mumbled some things, as he walked down the stairs.Hot, he really was. He was in a sweatpant, a sweatshirt, and slippers. His hair was a bit wet and tousled, some of its strands slipping on his eyebrows. But, that didn't obstruct his beauty. As he took each step down, those arms moved back and forth as if he was bragging about his muscles. He squeezed his face a little, yawned in between. I could tell he still wanted to sleep, but couldn't do that because I had forced him to take a bath earlier than usual. Lazy dude. He didn't wanna go to work anymore."Gosh, why won't you let me sleep? What have I done to deserve this punishment?" He pecked my cheek from behind, and se

  • Chasing Her   Forty nine: Agreed.

I turned back to Scott. His mouth and eyes were dropped. Mom's reply was what he wanted to hear, but that was probably not what he had expected her to say. She groaned from behind, which made me turn back to her. She was trying to get up. Yep, I ought to help her get up, but I was quite angry that she had agreed to give him the necklace."Mom?" I walked to her, and scoffed. "You wanna— what the heck?""Honey." She gasped for air, grumbling a bit as a result of how tired she seemed. "I can't risk your life. He's threatening us at gun point. We should just get rid of him for good. There's no need for you to worry, okay?""But, I can't…" I began to cry. I was so short of words. My mom would start a relationship with my boyfriend's dad? Absolutely ridiculous!"Honey, please—"Just when she was about to speak, the loud sound of… oh my goodness! Si

  • Chasing Her   Forty eight: I'll do it

The thought that could poof into my head, was going on my knees and begging this irritating dude to spare us. Now, I understood why mom wanted us to leave the country as soon as possible. But, the irritating thing was, why the heck were we running away from a criminal? Criminals were the ones who ought to leave, not us!"Scott, at this point, you should know that this isn't possible. I've been guiding my late husband's possession since God-knows-when," Mom sputtered, glowering at him. "So, please, forget about the filthy necklace.""I. Won't." He spat out.She scorned at him. "Then let's see how you'll get it. In two hours, your twenty-five years bet will diminish. John will lose all the money to the betting company, while you'll get nothing!""I swear, I'll kill you." He moved close to her, jerked her jaw, pulled my darling mom up. I could kill him as well!"You won't dare
