I kept staring at her. I was getting furious. This woman was definitely crossing her limits. I had gotten far in my relationship with Roy, so leaving him was too impossible.

I had won the battles in this relationship. Sean, Kathleen and every other person who had tried to interfere, had been gotten rid of. Now that I had the chance to enjoy my man, I wouldn't let anyone ruin my relationship with him.

I scorned at her. "Karen, what's the problem here?"

I had wanted to call her “Ma”, but it seemed like she didn't deserve to be called that. She was such a meanie.

"It seems like you'll prefer to get arrested." The look on her face became menacing as well. She slammed her purse against the table, snorted. "Don't make me do something you'll regret. Leave my son. That's simple, right?"

I smirked. It was time to be rude. "That's simple for a woman who's left her husband a couple of times. So, I guess that's why it's easy for you to say."

"How dare you?" She gritted teeth, her hand balled in fist. "Wow, so you aren't just poor, you're also very rude. Who the heck do you think you are?"

"Then learn to speak with respect!" I retorted. Noticing my voice had become loud, I tried to keep myself calm. "For jeez' sake, what's your problem with me being with Roy? Why are you making me feel like an idiot for dating a rich guy?"

She swallowed. The anger in her eyes reduced, another emotion glinting in them. It was like she had to say someone, but was being so hesitant. For some reason, she averted from our gaze, tension coating all through her. What was with this woman?

"Renee…" her voice was lower. "Leave him. This is more like a warning. I know what I'm saying."

"This is a threat, not a warning," I corrected.

She turned to me, shaking her head calmly. Was that tears in her eyes? Was she this desperate to send me away, that she was now starting to cry? Was this woman a demon or something? How could anyone be this heartless? All because she wanted her son to be with a rich lady?

"You see, there's a reason I need you to leave him," she said. Her voice was soft, but the softness had no effect on me.

My anger rose. Overly flustered, I slapped my palm against the table, stood up with so much force.

"What's wrong with you?!" I cried. The intensity at which I yelled, grabbed everyone's attention towards us. "Is life all about money? Can't the poor be given some chance? Just because I'm not rich doesn't mean I'm the wrong woman for your son!"

She stood up as well, still shaking her head gently. A tear left her eye, and she sniffed. Gosh, this woman was making me hate her even more.

"It's not—"

"Just because I'm not so successful today, doesn't mean I won't be successful tomorrow," I continued to lecture her, tears in my eyes. Of all the things I hated, being underestimated was what I hated most.

She sighed. "Renee, calm down. I've got something to tell you. You might—"

"No!" I cut her off. Wrapping my arms around my chest, I glared at her. "Tonight, you'll be the one to listen to me. You might be older, but that doesn't mean you know everything."

"That's enough," she warned. "If you aren't ready to listen to me, that doesn't mean you should be rude. I'm not a child, okay?"

"So you'll keep threatening me?" I turned to the other side of the table, stood beside her.

She sighed again. Turning to me, she was already frowning. "Enough of this embarrassment. Remember who I am, okay? I won't take shit from you."

"Another threat?!" I snarled. "Wait, I really need to know your problem."

"That's. Enough." Her threatening tone aggravated.

"No. I won't stop speaking. I've had enough embarrassment from y'all!"

"I said it's enough."

"You should keep quiet instead!"

She sighed. I could tell her frustration was rising. "For the last time, keep quiet."

"I won't ke—"

"Enough!"

I couldn't tell how it happened. I didn't know what went wrong. I didn't know what was going on. But, all I could say was I felt my cheek burn. Did she… hit me? What?!

She hit me hard to the extent my neck jerked sideways. Enraged, I slowly turned to her. As expected, she was scowling. Scowling so much.

She raised a finger, pointed it at me. All I could do was stare blankly at her. "How dare you act so rudely?!" She yelled at the top of her voice, only wrath beaming on her face. "Just because I'm helping you doesn't mean I'll permit shit from you! Roy's only—"

"Mom?" And then, he appeared.

I had heard his voice, but I didn't turn to him. His mom was all I could focus on at this moment. I couldn't stop thinking of the reason she hated me this much. What had I done to her? She had the audacity to hit me in a public place? So upsetting.

He hurried to us. I hadn't seen him in weeks, but now that he was here, looking at him wasn't something I felt like doing. I was so embarrassed.

"What did you do to her?" He asked her. He sounded angry and worried, but that wasn't my concern.

I looked down, weeping silently. I wished I didn't have to come here tonight. If I had known this would happen, I would have waited to see Roy by tomorrow morning.

"Re—"

"I'm fine," I cut into him. Grabbing my backpack from where I had sat, I walked past them, heading out of this suffocating place.

I should just go to my dorm, I thought. He would probably come over to visit me. For now, I just had to leave this woman. And, one thing I knew was, irrespective of what she had done tonight, I wouldn't leave Roy. She had only been babbling.

Again, I had come too far to let go of him. We were locked to each other, and that would ever be it.

Roy____I glared at mom, so angry at her. Since the last forty minutes, she hadn't given me the answer I wanted. All she did was to sip from her cup as if I wasn't seated here with her."Mom, I'm asking you the same thing again, did you tell Renee anything?" I ensured I sounded harsh, enough for her to know I wasn't joking around."And what if I did?" She looked up at the sky, so much uninterest beaming in her voice.I snorted. "This isn't funny, you know? What'll dad—""Dad!" She interrupted me from speaking, turned to me. Those tears in her eyes ached my stomach, but what could I do? "Your dad is always everything. You so much care about what he thinks of you, to the point you're now doing terrible things."I sighed. "I already told you he won't harm her. And, why do you even care about this? It's not like I'm the first guy t

I stared at Roy. He was probably deep in thoughts, so he only stared at the sky. I would admit, he was kind of different tonight. His smile wasn't wide, those eyes weren't beaming in happiness as usual, he looked so worn out.I took his hand, dropped it on my lap. When I did that, he turned to me. "Are you okay?" I asked him, quite worried."Yeah." Again, his smile was faint.I furrowed my eyes at him. "Are you sure you're Roy? I mean, you're being too weird. Did your cute smile get stolen? What's wrong?"He raised his other hand, tweaked my cheek. "You're a worrywart. I'm fine, trust me.""You've been gone for a long time, now that you're here, I feel like you aren't glad to be with me," I denoted. He chuckled. "False. I'm always glad to be with you. And, well, I'm thinking about what my mom did to you. It's kind of… upsetting.

Hot, Roy really was.I couldn't help but drool for him. Two ladies walked past him, muttered and giggled, and I shot them a glare even though they didn't see me. What the heck? How could they fall for my man? Silly!Roy turned around, smiled widely at me. I blinked to remain steady. I was intensely staring at him to the point I had forgotten we were in a shopping mall."Done." He said that as soon as he walked to me."O-Oh. Were they… expensive?" I asked, referring to the bunch of clothes and shoes he had just bought for me.He rolled his eyes, dropped his hands on his waist, sighed. "Renee, seriously? You still worry about the expenses?"I smiled. "Maybe."He shook his head, took the shopping bags from me, signaled we should get going. In a short while, we reached his car. He dropped the bags in the back se

"Where is he?" Dad's voice sounded dangerous, filled with so much wrath. His hands were rolled in a fist, tugged against the armrest of his chair. Hard, his teeth were gritted. He glared at the floor intently, breathing slowly and deeply. The young dude standing beside dad's chair bowed his head, obviously fearful. "I-I don't know. He said he'll be here soon.""Where is he?!" Dad hollered at the top of his voice. He didn't just holler, he kicked the stool which stood below his knee. Woah, woah, this anger was getting too hard."I-I don't know, sir. He'll get here soon." The young man trembled as he spoke.Irritated, I gestured that he should take his leave. Dad could easily hit a glass against the innocent dude's head. It was better to prevent that.I sighed. "Being angry won't do anything. I think you should rather be grateful you didn't go bankrupt."

  • Chasing Her   Ten: Nightmare

I blinked after a long, crazy, uncomfortable stare. I was kind of shocked to know he knew my name. And, why did I feel like this guy was truly Roy's brother? This was the same way I had encountered Roy, about a year ago. He had come like a ghost, seeming as if he had already known me before that night."You're not just cute, you're funny too." Tyler chuckled at me.I smiled a little. I wasn't blushing, but I liked it when anyone called me cute. "Thanks. Anyways, what would you like to buy?""I want a drink." He winked, a sneer on his lips. Gosh! Winking like Roy? Was I sure this wasn't my guy in disguise? "A drink with you."I chuckled. "I work here. No drinks with the workers.""Really?" He propped his elbow on the counter, those attractive eyes glinting. "Well, you aren't prohibited from walking home with me, right?"I dropped my hands on my wai

  • Chasing Her   Eleven: Crazy

I tried so hard to force a tear to elude my eye, but my effort was in vain. The pain I felt seemed to be exacerbating, so I needed to cry out this pain. But, nothing was working. The tears weren't willing to come out.My entire body shuddered, stiff in my tracks. I could die. The least thing anyone could play with were my emotions. I was emotional to the point a heart break could affect me for weeks. It could be dangerous to my health.Had he really cheated on me? So this was real? For goodness' sake, I had given him all of me. What would—"No, no," I rejected every negative thought in my head, being hopeful that what I had seen was false. Not wanting to believe it, I managed to take my phone, attempting to watch the video again. I was pretty sure that wasn't my man. Maybe he was being framed. But, that was the instant a text came in. Numb, I clicked on the text. It was

Roy____I squinted my eyes at my laptop screen, trying to read the content on the page I was browsing through. Frustrated, I groaned at myself, thinking of the best way to end this crazy work I was doing. It was about six in the evening, which meant it was time to go home. But how could I go home when this stupid work wasn't willing to be done?Exhausted, I sighed, threw my head back to lean my back against my seat. Taking my phone from the glass table in front of me, I turned it on, waited for a while, particularly waiting for a text from Renee. But, I got nothing. The phone screen was blank. This was weird. Since yesterday's afternoon, Renee hadn't attempted to give me a call or send a text. Fine, I wasn't replying to her texts and calls these days, but that didn't mean I didn't like to get them from her. Replying to her texts would only make me feel guilty, so that was t

  • Chasing Her   Thirteen: Cheat

I parked my car in front of Renee's dorm. Being hesitant to step out, I stared at the steering wheel, feeling the need to return back home. Return home because there was a really high probability Renee wouldn't forgive me. I mean, what excuse could I give her? How would she believe Kath and I didn't sleep with each other that night?"Roy, what happened?" Jason asked. He sounded worried, and that made me quite relieved. I needed someone to understand things from my perspective. My stupid perspective.I swallowed before turning to him. "I…" I sighed. "I don't even know how to say it. You see, Kath kind of came into my hotel room. She wanted me to sleep with her, but of course, I didn't. Yes, we kissed, but nothing else happened.""So…" he pursed his lips, raised his eyebrows. "Who took that video? How did it leak out? And, who would have sent it to Renee?"I narrowed my eyes.

Renee______My hands tugged against the guardrails of the bed I was laid on. This pain? I hadn't ever experienced such physical pain in my entire life. At this moment, I appreciated my mom more than ever before."Ah!" My voice didn't come from my vocal cord, it came all the way from my abdomen, went through my lungs, then escaped via my lips. This pain felt like death."It'll be fine." Roy caressed my hair, seeming so worried."Push!" The nurse cried."Lord, help me!" I screamed further, trying to catch my breath, weeping so hard. A loud high-pitched sound banged in my ears, my head felt heavy, my body was full of discomfort. He pecked my forehead. "A little more effort, okay? Just a few more pushes.""A little more force needed," the nurse announced.&nb

I held mom's hand tight, so worried. It had been up to an hour since she woke up, yet she wasn't saying anything to me. She only continued to weep hard, harder than I had ever seen. I had asked her a couple of questions, but got no reply."I can't believe this," she finally spoke.I shifted closer to her, cupped her hand tighter. "I don't get what's going on. Please, say something to me."She finally looked at me. "That's John. That's… your father."I gave her a neutral expression, not knowing what to say or do. My father? The man who had died since I was a baby? Wait, what? Was this a world of fantasy? How in the world did he wake up from the dead?"Mom, that's Pablo. Are you sure you aren't seeing things?" I bit my lower lip when I said that. She sighed. "I don't even know how to react to this. It feels so… unreal. I'm sure S

"Roy, come downstairs!" I cried, grumbling and frowning at myself. Goodness knew what he was doing up there. "Do you want your food to get cold? Don't make me come there and break your bones!""I'm coming, ma'am." He mumbled some things, as he walked down the stairs.Hot, he really was. He was in a sweatpant, a sweatshirt, and slippers. His hair was a bit wet and tousled, some of its strands slipping on his eyebrows. But, that didn't obstruct his beauty. As he took each step down, those arms moved back and forth as if he was bragging about his muscles. He squeezed his face a little, yawned in between. I could tell he still wanted to sleep, but couldn't do that because I had forced him to take a bath earlier than usual. Lazy dude. He didn't wanna go to work anymore."Gosh, why won't you let me sleep? What have I done to deserve this punishment?" He pecked my cheek from behind, and se

  • Chasing Her   Forty nine: Agreed.

I turned back to Scott. His mouth and eyes were dropped. Mom's reply was what he wanted to hear, but that was probably not what he had expected her to say. She groaned from behind, which made me turn back to her. She was trying to get up. Yep, I ought to help her get up, but I was quite angry that she had agreed to give him the necklace."Mom?" I walked to her, and scoffed. "You wanna— what the heck?""Honey." She gasped for air, grumbling a bit as a result of how tired she seemed. "I can't risk your life. He's threatening us at gun point. We should just get rid of him for good. There's no need for you to worry, okay?""But, I can't…" I began to cry. I was so short of words. My mom would start a relationship with my boyfriend's dad? Absolutely ridiculous!"Honey, please—"Just when she was about to speak, the loud sound of… oh my goodness! Si

The thought that could poof into my head, was going on my knees and begging this irritating dude to spare us. Now, I understood why mom wanted us to leave the country as soon as possible. But, the irritating thing was, why the heck were we running away from a criminal? Criminals were the ones who ought to leave, not us!"Scott, at this point, you should know that this isn't possible. I've been guiding my late husband's possession since God-knows-when," Mom sputtered, glowering at him. "So, please, forget about the filthy necklace.""I. Won't." He spat out.She scorned at him. "Then let's see how you'll get it. In two hours, your twenty-five years bet will diminish. John will lose all the money to the betting company, while you'll get nothing!""I swear, I'll kill you." He moved close to her, jerked her jaw, pulled my darling mom up. I could kill him as well!"You won't dare

  • Chasing Her   Forty Seven: Absolutely no one

Life was the same as boring. There was no Roy to stare at me whenever I woke up in the morning, there was no baby in my tummy to adore, there was no one to keep my company. Mom, who was the only available person around me, was facing a bit of depression.Ever since I had told her about how I had lost my pregnancy, she hadn't been doing fine at all. She had said she had already been knitting sweaters for her unborn grandchild, not knowing the innocent thing would be killed by some morons.Little by little, I was getting rid of the pain of losing the pregnancy, but not a bit had I gotten rid of my love for Roy. I guessed we had a really strong bond. To be frank, in the last one week, sometimes, I would think of speaking with him, but I didn't know how to. Probably, if he hadn't affirmed that this relationship was over, I could have tried to at least call or send a text to him. But, since he had said he didn't want it anymore, I gue

Being shocked was an understatement. Not for once had I thought I would ever get to see her again. When she had first gone to the hospital, I used to visit her, and sometimes, had prepared her favorite dishes. But, when the doctor had told Bella and I that she had been close to death, we had decided to stop going to the hospital in order to prevent ourselves from being too hurt."Virg!" I jumped from my seat, threw my body against hers, cuddling her crazily. She giggled, hugging me tight as well. "Missed you so much, honey.""Oh my goodness." Pulling away, I pecked her on the cheek. "I can't believe you're… alive."She shrugged. "Me too. I can't believe I'm alive."I poked her arm. "Gosh, you've made me so glad tonight. Wanna go somewhere and talk?""Sure." She nodded."Kk." I took my purse from the table. T

After a moment of being glued to my tracks, I managed to drop the bottle of water and glass, on the bed. Doing that, I traipsed to her, my legs feeling like it would break soon.Immediately I stood in front of her, she put her eyes down. "I'm sorry. I know this might hurt you. As well, I'm hurt. It took me a while to make this decision, but I've made up my mind. And I know it'll be good for us both.""Are you crazy?" I huffed. I hadn't even known when those words had spilled from my mouth. "You want to leave me? In this ruckus?"She raised her head to me, tears in her eyes. "Please, understand this. Breaking up is what we need at this point. Many people don't want us to be together.""But, that's—""We lost our child!" She roared. The seriousness in her tone intensified, tears already trickling down her cheek.
