CHAPTER THREE
Alpha Jacqueline walked into his home, tired from another long day. The pack was suffering, he could feel their pain almost as if it pierced his flesh. The raku was a sickness none of the healers could cure, and yet it sprang up from nowhere and was threatening to destroy his entire pack. And his father! Jacqueline drew in a breath and tried not to think of his father, of how the raku was ravaging the old male, destroying his only family before his very eyes, and yet he could do nothing! He, the most powerful male in the pack, the Alpha! And yet he was helpless against this sickness. The thought of his helplessness annoyed him and drove him to become crueler, more hardened, the thought of Ophelia too. A cold smile curved on his lips as he thought of Ophelia, the female who had been his mate. She had ended up being a conniving whore who had been having an affair with his rival, another Alpha while plotting his downfall. He had even found out that the little male, Daniel whom he had thought was his first son was not his. Scott was the child of his rival, the Alpha, Ophelia was having an affair with. Alpha Jacqueline smiled bitterly as he remembered the days of her early pregnancy. He had pampered her and showered her with love and affection. He had been so excited about the birth of the cub and all for another male’s child! Another cold smile touched his lips as he remembered how he had punished her. He had gotten a confession from her lips, flinching slightly as she denied him for her lover, then he had taken her to a room where he had beaten and tied up the Alpha. Stripping her in front of her lover, he had slept with her, punishing her by the very act. Her tears had further aroused him, it had numbed the pain of her rejection. Her tears and the look of pain in her over’s eyes. After that, he killed her, his claws sinking into her flesh while in the heat of her passion. Alpha Jacqueline may not have been the life of her life, but he was a very skilled lover. He had made sure to bring Ophelia to the brink of her passion before he killed her. Only at that moment did he feel peace. But it wasn’t real peace, it was a coldness that settled in his heart, a reminder that females were betrayers and he should never trust any of them again. Jacqueline smiled as he shook his head. He willed his mind to think of something else. Ophelia was over and done with. He opened his door to see two females lying on his bed with very flimsy clothing, patiently waiting for him. He didn’t mind. Sex was always a worthy distraction, and he needed to be distracted at the moment. The Alpha smiled at the blonde female as she took off his shirt and drew him to bed, then he dragged her face to his roughly, and let his lips assault hers. The kiss was rough, without affection, but it was what he needed at the moment. He let his other hand roam over to the other female on the bed, she seemed too quiet. He slapped her a bit and pinched her, to get a response, a smile curving at his lips when she whimpered and then moaned. “Why don’t you take everything off,” he said to both of them while he laid back against the bed. “We want to leave something to your imagination.” The blonde replied. She was the braver of the two. Alpha Jacqueline smirked coldly. Sometime in the past, he might have thought her witty, but now he was only bored by the pretentiousness of females. He dug his hand into her hair, and grabbing a handful, he dragged her to himself. “I’d never imagine you, I’d hardly remember what you look like after tonight,” he whispered harshly to her before he pressed his lips against hers again, drinking in her fear, her arousal. He was finally beginning to get into the mood when the door slammed open and Carl walked in without any kind of remorse. Alpha Jacqueline sighed in resignation. Carl was the only person who had the boldness to do that and rightfully so. Carl was his only real friend, the one person who had never betrayed him yet. He was also the head of Jacqueline's betas. “What now Carl?” “Your father,” Carl said simply, ignoring the naked woman on the bed. “He is having another seizure…and…and I don’t think...” He let his words trail off, but Jacqueline knew what he left unsaid. The Alpha’s father may not make it past this seizure. With his heart slamming against his chest, Jacqueline pushed the blonde off him and rushed out of the door to his father’s room. The old man lay on the floor shaking, while the useless healers surrounded him with their futile attempts. “Get out!” The Alpha exclaimed softly, but everyone felt the power in his voice. The healers turned to look at him, with fear in their eyes. “Get out.” Alpha Jacqueline repeated. “If my father is to die, then let him die with his dignity.” The healers filled out the room, and Alpha Jacqueline gently carried his father back to the bed. To his surprise, the shaken seemed to calm down, and the old male could even afford a smile at his son. “Father,” Jacqueline said simply. “Son.” The old man smiled, then he winced. “The pain is much, so much, sometimes I wished I could die.” Jacqueline let go of his father and stood up. The pain he felt in his heart had been dulled by his several disappointments in the healers, but it was still there, heavy against his chest. “Perhaps we need to bring in new healers,” Carl spoke. Jacqueline whirled around. “From where!” He asked harshly. “I have brought in as many healers I can from the entire Werewolf territory, both from my pack and from outside. I have brought in so many healers, we risk being ostracized as a sick pack.” Carl was silent for a while, then; “perhaps we need to consider someone outside the Werewolf territory.” Alpha Jacqueline gave a harsh laugh. “Who? Humans? What do humans know about Werewolves and our sicknesses?” “Maybe someone who is a Werewolf, and also a doctor, living among the humans.” Alpha Jacqueline was silent. Rosalie . He knew his beta was referring to her. For a moment, his mind was numb, and he could not think about her, then the memories kept flooding in. Beautiful, lovely Rosalie , so unaware of her beauty and her effect on males. Innocent Rosalie who had followed him about always, her love and admiration shining from her way brown eyes. She had given herself to him the night of his coronation, in all her innocence! He had been the first male to kiss her, the first male to touch her, to take her body. And then she had appeared at his mating ceremony those many years ago looking half-crazed, and acting equally as crazy. He had kept an eye on her after she fled the pack, and from his spies, he had learned she blended into the human world and became a medical doctor. He had called off his spies after he had learned she was seeing someone. And now, the mere thought of her, even at this moment left him excited. He wanted to see her again. “Why do you think she can help us?” He asked softly. Carl shrugged. “Because she is one of us, and she has medical training. Our healers can’t help us, so maybe we ought to start looking for alternatives.” Alpha Jacqueline nodded. “Bring her to me then.” Carl nodded but didn’t move an inch. “There is also the fact that she might be unwilling to see you.” “Bring Rosalie to me, Carl, whether she is willing or unwilling.” Alpha Jacqueline answered. His voice was low, barely a whisper, but the beta heard the cold menace in them. This was an order! “Yes, boss. I’d leave for the human world first thing tomorrow.” Alpha Jacqueline nodded without looking at his beta as the male walked out. He was thinking about Rosalie .CHAPTER FOURRosalie turned over as the alarm rang. It was 6;30 am, time to get up and prepare for the day ahead. She stretched, then yawned. Her body had not fully woken up yet.Forcing herself awake, she brushed her teeth hurriedly and began preparing food for her little triplets. Her lips curved in a smile. They were her joy, her all.It had been six years since she ran away from her pack since she last saw their father, the Alpha. For six years, she had struggled to make it in the human world, taking one day at a time, and she had even done well for herself. She had studied, went to college, and got a degree as a medical doctor, and now, she had just recently gotten employed by one of the best hospitals in the country. Her smile grew wider as she twirled around singing her favorite song from when she was little.“Is it morning yet Mommy?” Ricardo, the eldest of her triplets asked, his eyes still clouded with sleep. He went over to his mother and pressed himself against her in the
CHAPTER FIVE.Alpha Jacqueline was recklessly in his chamber. He just received words that his father was at it again, his seizures rose a little bit more than before.Alpha Jacqueline couldn't go to see the old alpha because he was scared of how much worse he could have turned. He could have gone to see his father but was scared of breaking down and lashing out at the healers who were doing close to nothing. Though even without checking, he could guess his father's presence changes. The old alpha, who was strong and handsome before, had turned frail, with weak skin wrinkled and eyes escaping into his head. He was in great pain, and there was no sight of Carl, neither was there Rosalie.Alpha Jacqueline tried to connect with Carl through his mind and finally, he was able to reach him after a lot of trial, "Where are you?" His voice was a mix of worries and coldness."We're almost in the castle, my alpha." Carl's response was very calm."Get here immediately." Alpha Jacqueline commanded
CHAPTER SIX.ROSALIE'S POV.I was shocked to see Jacqueline falling on his feet before me just for me to perform my wonder on his father, but that didn't erase the fact that he treated me like I was a scumbag, whereas, he was the only scumbag in the room. The pain I was feeling around my neck eased, and I got up to my feet, "I'll check what's wrong with the old alpha, but mind you, I'm not doing this for you, I'm doing it for the old man who was very good to me when I was with the pack."Jacqueline got up to his feet, "I don't care about any reason behind your help, just heal him."I glared at him and almost changed my mind, but the old alpha did nothing wrong to me. I couldn't let him die because of the sin of this heir. It was not done that way, so I had to help him.I moved to the bed where the old alpha was lying and saw he was still gasping for breath. I quickly grabbed both his lips, pulled them apart and helped him to breathe by transferring some air into his lungs with my mout
CHAPTER SEVEN.JACQUELINE POV.What is wrong with me? I just kept misbehaving over and all over again in front of Rosalie which I know shouldn't be so. I was giving her a lot of attitude which I wasn't supposed to give to a normal person.I was an alpha, and I knew how to behave in front of both my foes and friends. I knew how to cage my emotions and confuse my enemies.I knew when to draw out my claws and when to keep on a smile. I knew when to talk and when to keep quiet. I knew who was an enemy and who a friend should be.But, why am I losing every single sense I had just because Rosalie is here? Why can't I bolt up all my anger like I always do? Why? What's wrong with me? And as if I was not miserable enough, Jack, my wolf still refused to say a word to me.He was first quiet the day Rosalie stepped her foot out of the pack house when I chose Ophelia over Rosalie, but he learned to accept Ophelia, seeing she was our mate. But when we were betrayed, he wanted Rosalie back to the ca
CHAPTER EIGHT.ROSALIE'S POV."Someone should find me the guards I sent into the woods," I shouted randomly, with my heart clenching in pain as I increased the pressure of my weight on Alpha Cosmos's chest.I was trying everything in my power to revive him, and he was refusing to be revived. Something was wrong with the concoction I made, and I was confused because I used normal ingredients and mixtures.I had gone to the woods to grab more herbs, but upon returning, I was met with a commotion where everyone was prowling, and the words on their lips were that my patients had been poisoned.Judging by their suspicious eyes on me, I knew they were all pointing their fingers at me, whereas I was as astonished as they were."Anyone?!" I repeated, but just like the first question, no one answered me.The healers and the guards with some maids were all standing around in the room, glaring at me, and not moving. That was when I realised that no one went to the woods, and tears weighed up in
CHAPTER NINE.ROSALIE'S POV.I've never imagined myself blurting out a word about my pups in front of Jacqueline before, and to think that I spoke of them being his, not for once.I began to shiver from within and my legs wobbled. I was expecting him to say the next word so that I wouldn't snitch much more than I already had as I formed out what to respond to him with.Like the goddess was by my side, Jacqueline busted into a hilarious laugh, he held his stomach and laughed, then he spoke up, "Who do you think I am? A dumbass?" He laughed more.My astonished eyes went to Carl and saw he was just staring at his alpha with no expression on his face, though I knew he would be wondering about what was wrong with Jacqueline.I faced Jacqueline again, "I don't know what you're talking about." My voice was barely above a whisper."You are just like all those bitches out there who birth a pup who is not mine, and try to force their fatherhood on me. Though I see they're better, you're worse t
CHAPTER TEN.ROSALIE'S POV.My mouth refused to shut up as my eyes remained on Jacqueline who just muttered out the words about my slavery to everyone.'Why so evil?' I wondered, and I wished I could question him about his evil scheme, but I couldn't, not before the pack elders, who were looking so carnivorous. If they were given the chance to deal with me by themselves, I knew they would just shred me apart, but still, I didn't want to accept defeat without any trial."Jacqueline, I..."I meant to talk, but was cut off my words by an unfamiliar voice, "Your suggestion is good, my alpha."It was a feminine voice, and when I turned to check its owner, I saw it was one of the healers, and others were nodding beside her like agamid lizards."Since she is a doctor, and she knows a lot about native medicine, we can use her to create some local medicine that would help the people who are diseased, for the virus as we all know, is not ready to go off from the land." She explained further."D
CHAPTER ELEVEN.ROSALIE'S POV.It was morning, and I stretched from side to side on the bed. I was so tired since I was unable to sleep throughout the night. I had a lot of things to think about, which included the welfare of my pups and the evidence I had to do everything in my power to retrieve.I had to set myself free.I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom for a shower. When I was done, I wrapped myself with a clean towel and returned to the room to dress up.I selected a blue dress which was free on my body, and it got to my mid-thigh.As I was not ready for any unnecessary attention that day, I picked out nude leggings, which I wore underneath the dress, and I used a belt to hold the waist firmly around my waist, causing the dress to be shorter.I stood before the mirror to dress my hair, and a lot kept crossing my mind. It got to my knowledge that I would be spending more than enough time in the pack, away from my children.I knew I had two things to do for them: first, p
CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR.AUTHOR'S POV.Jacqueline and Rosalie's car entered the Phoenix's territory, and they were stopped by the Phoenix guards who were waiting for them.Jacqueline winds down the window of the car to reveal himself to the guards with his eyes focusing forward. He didn't glance at the guards. They bowed to him, "Welcome, alpha and you too, Luna. We're here to lead you to the palace's hall where the banquet is taking place."He replied to them with no word, just with his face so serious, like he was tensed, but he was the most relaxed person on earth at that moment. The guards stood there confusingly. They didn't know what to do, whether to just let the alpha be or persuade him before he would join them. They waited, but no word. They would have sworn that Jacqueline was not the alpha if they hadn't seen
CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE.ROSALIE'S POV.I woke up due to a knock resounding on my door. I rose from the bed and stared at the door sleepily, then the knock came again, "Coming." I muttered and the knock stopped coming.I got out of bed picked up a sleeping robe, which I wore, and knotted the rope around my waist, covering my transparent nightgown.I walked towards the door and held the knob, "Who's there?" I questioned, getting ready for the opening."The able beta."I rolled my eyes and opened the door to behold Carl. He was with some women who had thousands of things in their hands with a very weird smile on their lips."Hi, good afternoon." Carl greeted me.I let out a yawn, "Good afternoon, Carl."Others bowed, "Good afternoon, Miss." And I nodded to them.I had been given ti
CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO.ROSALIE'S POV.I was in a secluded space behind the castle, preparing my herbs, which I had told Carl that I would drink before going to the banquet, which was just tomorrow.I had added all the ingredients for the first round, I was stirring the extracted juice I had poured inside a small kitchen pot, and its shaft was also by my side. I was going to use it for the special drink I would be mixing for Ophelia.I couldn't forget she needed to be punished. The only way she could escape my punishment was if she didn't bother to show up at the banquet, but if she did, then, sorry, I was unable to forgive. The herb had been well cooked, so I carried the pot down from the stove and kept it aside for it to cool down its hotness.I carried the shaft with a bottle of soda and I began to mix Ophelia's portion. Then, some steps p
CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE.ROSALIE'S POV.I was not expecting Jack to listen to my words like he did, but all the same, he made everything easier for me. I wouldn't have to stress so much for Jacqueline to cooperate with me if his wolf was that obedient to me."Jack, take me away from here," I said to him, trying to prove to Jacqueline that I could be in control too.I was surprised at how fast he was. He took over Jacqueline's body and took me in his hands before all the way jumping down from the balcony."Woah!" I gasped. He then swung me to his back, where I sat with my hands holding tightly to his grey and black fur, and he dashed into the woods.I had no idea of where he was taking me to, but I bet was enjoying the ride. The way he galloped, jumped over dry leaves and dived between wet leaves, thereby leaving some drops of water on me, got
CHAPTER THIRTY.JACQUELINE'S POV.I was sitting on my throne with my eyes glued on my elders as they discussed their fears about my decision to go to the banquet, which was two days away.It was funny how they were worried about me, whereas, I was not at all worried, neither did I feel any sort of fear. I was very brave that I would go there and return. It was not hidden from everyone that the banquet was made for my disposal, but what they found unknown was my real intention for acknowledging the invitation and my strict decision that I would be there."In my personal opinion, I think the alpha should ignore them. Though we know that our alpha is not a weak one, I still think they aren't worth his presence." One of the elders said and the rest began again.Saying I shouldn't go and some said if I insist on going, I should go with all the palace guards."That's a good suggestion." I said to them, and they all smiled foolishly, "But if I go with all the palace guards, then who will gua
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE.ROSALIE'S POV.We were on a secluded field behind the castle, and I don't think anyone would be able to locate us, maybe except Jacqueline. Carl got our scents covered."First thing first as I told you, you have to know that those people are not just ordinary people, they are lords, some, kings, but even with that, you shouldn't bow to them, you're representing a prominent figure too, a luna, this pack's luna, and you must act like one."You will have to carry yourself gracefully. If you want to greet any of them, give the person your hand for a kiss, and form a small smile on your lips with your eyes strictly locked into their eyes, and mind you, avoid getting lost in their eyes."Some of them are chronic womanizers. They charm women with their eyes. So, I'll advise: anytime you want to greet the leaders, make sure you're holding Jacqueline firmly. If you do, their powers won't work on you, but if possible, Jacqueline is not around at that moment. Don't smile whe
CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT.ROSALIE'S POV."Rosa!" A loud call pierced into my sleep, and I turned tiredly on my bed, growling."Rosa. Dammit! Wake up!"I wanted to listen to the voice and wake up, but I couldn't. It was like I was trapped, and not when I was having one of the weirdest dreams ever, in which Briana was included."Dammit!"And there was peace from the background, no more trial, and I was stuck in my dream with Briana. She laughed maliciously, "Your little guidance angel gives up on you so easily. What can I say? You're right here, with me."I had to do all the weird things she began to list out for me. I didn't know what was wrong with me. I just knew that when she said 'do', I did.Suddenly, I felt a calm touch on me and the real angel's voice spoke calmly into my ears, "Wake up, it's just a dream."That was more of a command than mere words. I was commanded to wake up, and I did. My eyes flung open to welcome a light-blinding room. It was sudden, and I groaned with my hand
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN.ROSALIE'S POV.I haven't seen more of Jacqueline since yesterday, and I was becoming worried. Though I knew that he was okay, at least, he must be okay since nothing seemed different.Everything was normal, and none of the daily activities in the pack house were left undone. It was in the evening, and I was just done with the last person on my schedule that day. I walked out of the ward and away when I was stopped by Briana.I grumbled, "I thought you were dead or something, for me to have a peaceful day throughout yesterday."She smiled and fixed her short hair behind her ears. "You know, Rosa, you can't ever be free or be peaceful in this castle. Though you know you can go somewhere else to have a peaceful life, the choice is yours.""Alright. I heard you." I replied to her just to get her off my neck and made to walk by her side, but she stopped me. Typical Briana."What?" I dragged the word, silently telling her she was disturbing me."One more thing." She fo
CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX.In the Phoenix kingdom, a man with seven tails of many colours was pacing around in his courtyard, and just a little bit far off from him were a multitude of guards who had their eyes glued to the ground. They dare not look up to the man.The man, who was the phoenix king, was waiting for his daughter, who had insisted on going to the werewolf pack for an assignment he could have given to one of his trusted men to carry out, and he feared that his daughter could have been caught and killed by the mysterious wolf's alpha, Jacqueline.Though the king's expression couldn't be seen even if they wanted to look, since he had himself hidden in the dark."Any word from Clyve yet?" He questioned in a calm voice. The calmness of his voice got his guards taking a step backwards. They preferred him shouting like a maniac rather than being calm. The calmer he was, the more dangerous he was."No, my king." One replied and immediately turned into ashes. The king burned him alive
