Logan 004

Logan's POV

When I wake up, I can’t stop thinking about what happened last night. I reach out for her in bed, hoping to feel her close to me, but she’s not there.

I jump out of bed, calling her name, but there’s no response.

I walk to the bathroom, but she’s not there either.

Back in the room, I spot an envelope and a note on the nightstand.

"I need time to reflect on what happened last night between us. Please understand that my choice isn’t about you. I left some money to cover my part of the hotel costs. Take care, Nadine."

Immediately, I pick up my phone and call one of my men.

"Good morning, sir."

"Good morning, Mark. Find that lady from last night."

"Yes, boss."

I head to the bathroom and freshen up, then my phone rings again. Mark’s voice comes through the line.

"Did you find her?" I ask, praying for a positive response.

"Yes, sir. She’s at the bridge."

"Damn it, tell me the location now."

I rush out of the hotel, one of the many I own. My chauffeur is already waiting in the car, and I quickly tell him where to go. "Hurry up!" I ordered.

"Yes, sir," he replies, immediately speeding off.

Anxiety floods me as we drive to the location. A thought crosses my mind, "go under the bridge." I instruct my chauffeur.

He swerves the car and accelerates.

"Boss, we’re here," his voice snaps me out of my thoughts.

In a split second, I exit the car.

That’s when I notice a body descending from the bridge above.

Without hesitation, I remove my jacket and leap into the river to save her.

I swim tirelessly, reaching her and pulling her to safety on the riverbank.

She’s shaking, struggling to breathe, and I hold her tight, trying to make her feel better. She feels so fragile. Tears rolled down her cheeks, and I felt relieved that I acted quickly.

More people gather at the riverbank, and one of my men calls my doctor. Soon, he arrives, checking her vitals and making sure she’s fine.

He advises me to let her rest. I thank him and take her back to the hotel. She drifts off to sleep.

I stay by her bedside, waiting for her to wake up. Then, I called my assistant. On the third ring, she picks up.

"Good morning, Mr. West."

"Clear my schedule for today." I give a firm command, not acknowledging her greeting. With that, I end the call, hoping for Nadine’s recovery.

After sleeping for a long time, she finally wakes up. She blinks, adjusting to the light in the room. She sits up and glances around.

"Where am I?" she asks, her eyes filled with curiosity.

Our eyes meet, and I see a glint of recognition in hers. Then, she relaxes back onto the bed, closing her eyes.

"You need to eat," I tell her as one of my men brings her food.

She hesitates, but when her stomach growls, she smiles and starts eating, while I watch her closely.

"You’re making me uncomfortable with your stare," she says.

I stay silent.

"Why did you save me? You should’ve let me escape from all this pain and torture," she pleads.

I remain quiet.

"Please say something," she begs.

"Nadine," I finally say.

She turns to me, surprised. "You know my name?"

I don’t reply to her questions and continue.

"Who are you?" she asks.

"I’m Logan West," I reply, forcing a smile in my best attempt to be cordial.

"I witnessed everything at the wedding."

Her expression changes to one of hurt, but I keep talking.

"I could tell you were hurt by what your sister and Jake did, and that’s why you decided to play the video at the wedding."

She takes a deep breath, tears welling in her eyes. "You’re right," she confesses, her voice shaky. "I was deeply hurt by their betrayal. I thought showing that video might help me get my revenge."

I look at her, frowning in confusion as I tap my fingers impatiently. "What, were you thinking of jumping into the river? You would’ve died from a pain you couldn’t bear if someone hadn’t come to your rescue."

She raises an eyebrow and sighs in resignation.

"Jake and Nathalie wouldn’t even notice you’re gone. Your parents might check on you out of guilt after a week, and by then, you would’ve been washed away from this world."

"You’d get no funeral, no grave, and no one would cry for you, while Jake and Nathalie live happily ever after. You could’ve gone to Jake and told him you’re dying because of him, trapping him in regret for the rest of his life. That’s better than dying painfully like a loser," I say, making her tremble with fear.

Tears fill her eyes. "Can you stop it already? Why are you so mean?"

"You don’t get it. My family hates me. I’m like an unwanted person in their lives, while my sister gets their attention without even trying," she says, tears streaming down her face.

I move closer, gently holding her in place.

"I’ll help you get your revenge on them," I say softly.

"Why are you doing this for me? I don’t even know you," she asks, looking deep into my eyes.

"That’s a good question. I have a proposal for you," I say, in a serious tone.

She furrowed her brows and gave me a questioning look. "What is it?" she asks.
