Melanie is busy in the kitchen wrapping up dinner preparations with Kalinin after spending the whole Saturday at Ryan’s family house, hanging out with Ryan and also dropping Kionna off for her play date with Aurora, Ryan’s five-year-old niece when her phone suddenly vibrates due to a notification that Melanie assumes is from Ryan, because they had an unfinished discussion, but it turns out that the notification is actually from heartily.me, the dating sight.
“What the…?!” she stares at the message, her eyes glued to the screen, as she struggles to process the information. “For what felt like an eternity, I waited on the rooftop terrace for you to arrive with the beef and broccoli stir fry, but you didn’t show up,” Kalinin says as she walks swiftly into the kitchen, picks up the bowl of food before she returns to the rooftop terrace to continue serving dinner. Melanie doesn’t move from the position that she is glued in, her eyes are darting back and forth trying to figure out what could have made Caleb unmatch with her, but she can’t figure it out. Kalinin returns to the kitchen to pick up the almond cookies that they will be using for dessert since Melanie has refused to bring it, and then she notices that Melanie doesn’t look or feel like herself. “Mel…is everything okay?” Kalinin asks, her voice laced with concern. “You seem a little off” she points out, shaking Melanie lightly, which makes Melanie conscious of her environment again. “I’m fine, I’m just a little preoccupied,” she hesitates, unsure of how to respond. “Preoccupied with what exactly?” Kalinin probes. “To the best of my knowledge, you were perfectly fine when we started making dinner, so what exactly are you preoccupied with?” Kalinin questions. “I’m sorry, Kali. I just got caught up with something” Melanie sighs. “Why do I feel like there is something that you are not telling me,” Kalinin’s eyes narrow, as she eyes Melanie suspiciously. “You know that you can always talk to me about anything?” Kalinin’s expression softens. “This may sound foolish to you” Melanie starts and Kalinin waits for her to tell her what is up. “Caleb unmatched with me on the dating site” Melanie finally reveals her bone of contention to her sister. “Which Caleb are we talking about?” Kalinin asks her, visibly confused. “The club owner that I went on a date with two weeks ago” Melanie refreshes her twin sister's memory. “I am not trying to make light of whatever you are feeling as a result of him unmatching with you, but I thought you were not interested in the guy, so why should him unmatching with you make you act as if you just lost somebody dear to you?” Kalinin asks, raising an eyebrow, trying to wrap her head around the information that she just got from her sister. “I wasn’t or so I thought but why would he unmatch me?” Melanie complains bitterly with a frown. “Maybe he is playing games. Guys like him often do that” Kalinin presses her sister's shoulder as she grabs the cookies that she came into the kitchen for and starts making her way out of the kitchen. “Do you think he was genuinely interested?” Melanie asks, looking concerned and Kalinin stops walking. “Honestly sis. I think you dodged a bullet. You deserve way better than somebody that makes you feel uncomfortable and also somebody who is unsure” Kalinin shrugs. “But what if I was wrong about him? What if he is genuinely interested?” “Mel. You need to ask yourself why you are so bothered.” Kalinin sighs as she starts “Is it because you’re interested in the possibility of a relationship with Caleb or is it because your pride is hurt?” Kalinin’s expression turns serious and Melanie’s eyes widen, taken aback by her sister’s blunt words. “You have been spending time with Ryan, and he seems genuinely interested. Maybe it is time to focus on someone who cares” Kalinin pats Melanie’s shoulder as she makes her way out of the kitchen with the Almond cookies that she came to get, but Melanie’s face falls, feeling unsettled by Kalinin’s words., Meanwhile, Martins and Kionna waited patiently at the dinner table, growing frustrated as the minute ticked by because Kalinin had just gone to the kitchen to grab the desert, but she had refused to come back to the dinner table, and Melanie did not even show up at all. “ I don’t know what Kalinin is saying about Ryan being genuinely interested in me when both of us are just platonic friends without any strings attached” she hisses as she dials Ryan’s number. Ryan picks the call on the first ring and she runs the situation of what just happened by him because over the past two weeks that they have been in touch and he has been the closest that she has to a friend in Orion, where the only set of people that she knows is Kalinin and her family, and he suggest that if the whole unmatching situation bordered her that much, she should try to reach out to Caleb and have a conversation with him. He asks her to check Caleb’s profile if there is any means of further communication like his email address or his mobile number and surprisingly, she finds his mobile number and starts contemplating if she should just call him out or let it go. She goes ahead to join Kalinin and her family for dinner, and after dinner, she returns to her room to save his mobile number with "unmatch champion" but she doesn’t call him because she feels like it will be such a foolish move to make. Three days later, she finally decides to dial Caleb’s number and call him out on his bullshit but the reason that he gave for unmatching with her is because he needed space after she ghosted him and she couldn’t believe it because as far as she wasn’t concerned, he didn’t make any more attempts to try to reach out to her over two weeks and now he even dares to put her call on hold for over fifteen minutes. Melanie is boiling with anger because she knows what it took for her to get herself to call him, but now he is making her feel stupid for initiating contact. “I am sorry for putting the call on hold for long” he apologizes after removing the call from the hold. “I feel like the majority of this issue resulted as a result of lack of proper communication, so do you want to meet up to discuss what happened” “Is that not the conversation that we are having right now?” she asks him with an edge to the tone of her voice. “Do we have to meet up?” she questions him. “I don’t fancy chatting or phone calls, I prefer us to have a face-to-face conversation” he explains “I don’t know how I feel about that,” she hesitates. “You can pick anywhere you are comfortable with,” he tells her. “Can I make a decision and just text you?” Melanie asks him and he agrees.Melanie hesitates to give Caleb an answer because she doesn’t know if meeting up with him will be a good idea or not, but she already sort of agreed to meet up with him even though she didn’t exactly say yes, more so she was the one that reached out first so refusing to meet up will not look well on her path, and a part of her wanted closure, as to the real reason why he unmatched her if he was interested in exploring the possibility of a relationship with her.Caleb unmatching with her bruises her ego so bad, and she finds herself pondering about the pros and cons of meeting up with Caleb for the second time. She doesn’t want to discuss anything about Caleb with her sister again because the attitude she gave when she told her about Caleb unmatching her was not welcoming to her at all, so she decides to text Ryan instead because she feels like she will go crazy if she doesn't talk to somebody soon.“I found Caleb’s number on the dating site and I called him after thinking about if I
Caleb’s phone dings with the text from Melanie and as he reads his text, his eyes narrow, and his mind races as he processes the information because he knows that Bistro Bliss is Ryan’s family restaurant, so he is sure as hell that it can’t be a coincidence, so his gut twists with unease, recalling the growing closeness between Melanie and Ryan.“He is getting too close to her and I don’t like that at all,” Caleb thinks and a pang of jealousy strikes him, so he takes a deep breath for him to analyze his emotion.“I buried myself into so much work that I stopped trying to reach out to her for two weeks which allowed Ryan to plant himself into her life” Caleb’s rational side kicks in.“I should have tried to reach out to her again instead of waiting for her to reply my previous messages, but this meet-up should be an opportunity for me to clear the air about my radio silence, for us both to understand what happened on each other side and also for me to show Ryan that I am still in the
Following a solid night's sleep the night before, Caleb wakes up feeling refreshed. Looking at his watch, he discovers the time to be 7:00 AM and Alex Sinclair, Saint Clair's agent from Pearl Coast will be arriving in Orion today to oversee the project with his company and even though it is Sunday morning, he is neither the church type guy nor religious at all.Caleb gets ready to make a good impression by wearing a tidy white shirt and fitting trousers, then he grabs his keys and leaves to pick Alex up from the airport. He wants to make the representative very valued by being very careful about everything that influences his hospitality, hence he is controlling everything by himself even though he could have told his assistant to pick the representative up.At 8:00 AM Caleb parks his car at Orion International Airport and walks to the arrivals lounge. Looking at the flight status on his phone, he sees that Alex's flight has landed and heads for the Arrival gate.Caleb sees a large an
After a quiet night's sleep, Melanie wakes up feeling rejuvenated. Driven to interact with her faith community and spend time in worship, she gets ready for church. She sensed the Lord quite powerfully in the church, she sang hymns and listened to the preaching her pastor raised that she left appreciatively changed and rejuvenated by the gift of fellowship.Melanie gets home after church, excited to see Ryan for their regular Sunday hangout that became a routine three weeks ago and she puts aside everything that she would need to get ready for the date night into a duffle bag, then she drives Kalinin's car to Ryans house, knowing that she doesn't want to go through the stress of hurrying down from Ryan's house in the evening when it is time for her date.Ryan is a very busy man who works two jobs, not because he is low on money but rather because he is so good at what he does, so she packs lightly and leaves the house without Kionna because even though she and Ryan are getting rather
“Shall we?” Caleb asks when he notices that Melanie’s mind seems to have drifted miles away, and he confirms his theory because Melanie almost jumps out of her skin when he touches her.“Mel… are you okay?” Ryan asks Melanie, sensing her unease, and she gives a smile that doesn’t reach her eyes as she nods.“We can just go back home if you change your mind about the date,” Ryan proposes. “I am sure that Caleb will not hold it against you, " Ryan suddenly decides for Caleb, acting like they are twins that share the telepathy bond.“Or will you?” Ryan suddenly asks Caleb, acknowledging his presence for the first time that night by putting him on the chopping block.“Of course, I won’t” Caleb replies, glaring at Ryan and returning the same energy that Ryan has been sending his way since they met that night.“I am okay, Ryan,” Melanie says.“Let’s go to the Private Oasis,” Melanie urges and Ryan leads them out of the restaurant to the upper level of Bistro Bliss. The private Oasis is an
Alex sits alone on the lower floor of Bistro Bliss, scanning the crowded room and wondering whether Caleb's mystery woman is Melanie because he knows that Melanie has a twin sister and they look too alike. His thoughts return to their stormy history, and Melanie's unexpected exit from Pearl Coast is still fascinating to him because nobody could find her, and all leads failed. He had done everything to find her because their previous debate was inconclusive, and the last time she caught him cheating, she slipped off the grid for a bit and crept back to him when she wanted to end the radio silence. He was confident that this time would be no different. “Could Melanie be in Orion? Her sister lives here, after all,” He wonders as he orders food and starts eating, but his hunger is gone, and his thoughts continue going back to Melanie as these two weeks without her have been misery. He sets his food aside and plunges himself into a 45-minute internal debate about whether to investigate
Melanie is finally able to escape the rather unsettling situation with Alex, and on getting to the bathroom, her hands tremble as she dials Shirley’s number but it goes straight to voice mail.“There is no reason to be worried yet” Melanie tries to calm herself, knowing that Shirley barely has the normal phone etiquette that a normal human being should have, and her lackadaisical attitude towards her phone usage is just Shirley being Shirley and she will call her back when she gets her voice mail.“I need to know that you are alright, so I need you to call me once you see this,” Melanie sends Shirley a text on WhatsApp before redialing her number just in case she picks it up, but the call goes to voicemail once again.Melanie tries calling again so that if the issue of her not picking up is as a result of her phone being on DND (do not disturb) her falls will override the DND, but the result is the same. Panic creeps in, and her heart sinks because even though she always blamed the p
In less than 30 minutes, Melanie and Caleb arrive at Kalinin’s house, and Melanie runs down from Caleb’s Rolls Royce into the house to start putting together her documents, forgetting that she didn’t ask Caleb to come into the house. Melanie doesn’t inform her sister about what drove her to run home and start gathering her documents immediately, but Kalinin patiently waits for her sister to be done with what she is doing Since she knows that if Melanie doesn’t finish up what she needs to do, she won’t tell her anything. Since Caleb wasn’t invited into the house, he didn’t bother going inside, he just stayed outside to make a few calls. Firstly, he makes calls to arrange his jet and notifies his preferred pilot to be ready in 30 minutes to fly him to Pearl Coast. Next, he puts a call through to Alistair to tell him about how his date went and also to tell him about the recent development. It took a lot of cajoling for him to be able to guarantee that Alistair would overse
