After leaving Caleb's office, Melanie pulls out her phone and opens the Uber app that Kalinin downloaded and helped her set up earlier. She requests a ride, selecting the "Home" destination saved on her profile by her twin sister.
Melanie stands outside the office building, taking a deep breath of the evening air. She watches as the Uber driver's estimated arrival time count down on her screen. The driver arrives promptly in a sleek black Honda Civic. Melanie hops into the backseat, exchanging pleasantries with Amir. "Hi, how's your evening?" he asks. "It's been...interesting," Melanie replies, still processing the events at Caleb's office. As the driver navigates through the city’s streets, Melanie gazes out of the window. Lost in thought, she replays Caleb's behavior, Alistar's intervention, and her feelings. "We're here," the driver announces as he pulls up to Kalinin's Estate complex. Melanie thanks him and steps out of the car. She takes a deep breath, feeling relieved to be home. Melanie puts the passcode combination for the door and she walks into her sisters apartment, tiptoeing before locking the door behind her. She takes a moment to breathe in and collect her thoughts before turning around to make her way to her room, but she notices her sister sitting on the couch as if she were waiting for her. “You are not sleeping?” Melanie asks looking at Kalinin confused because it's past 11 pm and usually, she is always asleep by this time…especially after dealing with her two-year-old antics throughout the day. “I am tired but I can't stand going to bed when you are not back, so I could be at alert if you text me that Caleb at done something to you and I needed to pull up with the Orion Police Department (OPD)” Kalinin demonstrates dramatically. "Since you are back in one piece, how was the date?" Kalinin asks, leaving her seat to drag Melanie to the chair so that she can get the full gist. "It was...interesting." Melanie flops onto the couch beside her. "Spill." Kalinin raises an eyebrow. Melanie recounts the evening, from Caleb's initial charm to his unsettling behavior. Klinin listens attentively, her expression growing concerned. "…And then Alistar walked in and saved me," Melanie concludes. "Wow, what a creep! You're better off without him." Klinins eyes widens. “Well, I am glad that came from you because when I told you that I want ready to date, you made it seem like it was because I just didn't want to move on from Alex but at least I did what you wanted so you should leave me be” “You have not done what I wanted” Kalinin disagrees. “You went on only one date and you met such a creepy person….you can be lucky and the next person that you will match with on the app won't be that creepy,” Kalinin suggests. “Don't go there Kali” Melani stops Kalinin because Kalinin’s words are starting to trigger her “I admit tht Caleb may be a creep but you can find a better man if you try to match with another person on the dating site…..you won’t know if you don’t try” Kalinin continues anyway. “You told me to put myself out there, which doesn't necessarily mean that I needed to date at all costs, you just wanted me to try it and it didn't work out for me so can you leaves me be and stop threatening me with our mother now?” Melanie uses Kalinin’s own words against her. “Yoh have misunderstood my intentions” Kalinin tries to justify. "Don't start, Kali... You told me to put myself out there, and I did so don't push me further,” Melanie cuts her off. "Fine, I'll leave you be. No more dating lectures." Kalinin smiles, acknowledging her own words thrown back at her. “Get some rest, okay?" Kalinin smiles warmly at Melanie. "Thanks, Kali. Love you." Melanie nods, relieved. "Love you too, Meelah," Kalinin replies, standing up. Kalinin heads to her bedroom, closing the door behind her. Her husband, Marcus, looks up from his book. "How'd it go?" Marcus asks, concern etched on his face. "Caleb was a total creep and Melanie's shaken but okay." Kalinin sighs, flopping onto the bed. "That's terrible…How is Melanie handling it?" Marcus's expression turns serious. "She feels like I pushed her into dating too soon." Kalinin expresses, shaking her head. "Give her a break, Kali. Don't push her too hard for now. Let her process this." Marcus sets his book aside, pulling Kalinin into a gentle hug. "You're right. I just want her to be happy." Kalinin nods, snuggling into Marcus's embrace. "I know, but sometimes we need to let people find their own way…Melanie will come around when she's ready." Marcus smiles. "You're right. I'll back off for now." Kalinin takes a deep breath, feeling a sense of resolve. "That's my wise wife." Marcus kisses her forehead. **************************** In the living room,Melanie stands up from the couch, stretching her arms over her head. She feels a wave of exhaustion wash over her, but she's determined to get back into her nighttime routine. She heads to her bedroom, flipping on the light switch. The soft glow illuminates her cozy space, filled with memories of happier times. Melanie's eyes lingers on the photos of her and Alex, but she quickly looks away. Tonight, she wants to focus on self-care, not nostalgia. Melanie begins with washing her face and applying a soothing moisturizer. She then brushes her hair, feeling the gentle strokes calm her mind. As she changes into comfortable pajamas, Melanie catches a glimpse of herself in the mirror. She looks tired, but relieved. She climbs into bed, pulling the blankets up to her chin. For the first time since the breakup, Melanie feels like she's taking care of herself. She reaches for her favorite face mask and applies it, letting out a contented sigh. The cooling sensation calms her skin, and her mind begins to unwind. As she applies her moisturizer, Melanie's phone buzzes on her nightstand. Caleb's name flashes on the screen, his message igniting a spark of annoyance in her. Melanie settles into her skincare routine, the soothing scents and gentle motions calming her frazzled nerves. "Hey, beautiful. Had a great time tonight. Can't wait to see you again." “Beautiful? Really? After what he tried to pull?”Melanie's eyes narrows. Instead of feeling good about the whole situation, She ignores the message, setting her phone on silent mode before she hisses and flings her phone on the bed as she continues with her skincare. At the start of the date with Caleb, she felt that Caleb was different in a good way, there was something about Caleb's charming smile and amber eyes that had stuck with her and She wanted to know more about him, to see if their connection was real but now that he has showed her his true colors, there is no way he can have him in her corner. Feeling a sense of closure because she had stood up for herself, shared her truth with Kalinin, and now she is moving on, Melanie grabs her e-reader, settling in for some relaxing reading before bed. She's treating herself tonight, compensating for the uncomfortable evening with Caleb. As she reads, her eyelids grow heavy. She feels her thoughts drifting, her body relaxing.Melanie wakes up the next morning after a good night's sleep, relaxed. She yawns, reaches for her phone, and stretches. "What should I be doing right now?" Not set any quick trips for the day, she ponders “Rise and shine, sleepy head…it's time for our morning prayer” Kalinin charges her into the chamber. “I am up,” Melanie replies as she hangs her legs over the side of the bed, dressed comfortably. “You have such good morals” Kalinin teases First thing in the morning, they pray together in the living room. Soft music floats around as they claim their regular spots, and as they pray Melanie finds peace. After prayer, Martins takes Kionna to their room to help get started on her morning routine while he leaves Melanie and Kalinin in the living room. “Sweetheart…” Kalinin chimes and Melanie shoots her a suspicious look. “What do you need from me” Melanie goes straight into questioning her because she can tell that her sister wants something from her with the way she is actin
“Hey there, small friend." The man says hello to Kionna who is clinging to Melanie's thigh like her life depends on it. The man chuckles and Melanie beams, her cheeks slightly pink. Melanie didn’t get his name, but she felt the fleeting, dazzling link as they drove apart. Melanie and Kionna had nowhere to sit in the packed restaurant but then her eyes strayed to the table across, where the man she just ran into sat. He seems to be a brilliant, successful man with remarkable confidence and sensitivity in his late 20s. Melanies mind rapidly deduces from their similar eye color that the woman he is sitting with is either his mother or his sugar mommy. The man catches her staring at him and he smiles gently but Melanie's face stays blank. Her eyes narrow slightly and she turns back to Kionna, discounting the man from her attention. An empty spot finally opens up and the man looks across where Melanie and Kionna are standing. Realizing that he won’t be able to forgive himself if
Driven by the vibes that he got from Melanie during their date, Caleb hatches plans to ask Melanie out again as soon as Emma and Alistair leave his office but when Alistair notices how distracted Caleb is, he tells Emma to stop briefing Caleb about the preparations for the next morning’s meeting and that she should come with him to his office because he has something else that he needs her to help him with, just so that he won’t call Caleb out in front of his assistant for being so distracted.Caleb is delighted as Emma and Alistair step out of his office and he fishes out his phone to text his latest catch but when she doesn't reply within one hour, he double-texts her. No reply comes forth after he waits for another 30 minutes, and that makes him groan in frustration. "Did I misread the outcome of the date to think that she is really into me when she is not?" he wonders.Caleb falls into his office chair with fatigue written all over his face. He had hoped that his date with Melan
Melanie pauses to look directly at Ryan because she is also really happy that they ran into each other but she is not ready to own up to it, majorly because she is not willing to put her mind to the possibility of them sharing a potential friendship or relationship, then she will now find out that he is somebody like Caleb. "Ryan, I will see you around." She tells him as she carries Kionna down from his car but her sleeping beauty wakes up, gets down from her hands, and starts walking towards the door. "Definitely." Ryan nods and hands her Kionna’s belongings, before taking his card from his breast pocket and handing it over to her. “Call me if you want us to be friends” he leaves her with the choice before entering his car and zooming off.As Ryan leaves, Melanie finds it difficult to let go of the notion that their spontaneous meeting could signal the start of something special but at the same time she doesn’t want to block his chances before he has the opportunity to prove himse
Two weeks have passed since Melanie's sudden disappearance from Caleb's club and Caleb's concern turns into frustration. He couldn’t try calling her, texting her, and even showing up at her favorite spots because he barely knew anything about he, so with desperation for answers, Caleb hires a private investigator."Jack's Investigations,” the receiver at the other end of the call says as soon as he picks the call."I need your help, Jack," Caleb says, and Jack pauses, waiting for further instructions."I need you to find Melanie Carson." Caleb barks out his order at Jack."Details, please." Jack's tone turns professional and Caleb briefs Jack on Melanie's disappearance."I'll find her," Jack assures.Days pass by and Caleb's anxiety grows then Jack's call comes in."Caleb, I've got something." He informs Caleb.“Melanie Carson has been having quite a lot of dealings with Ryan Blackwood,” Jack informs him. “The investment Brooker?” Caleb asks him confused. “Yes he is,” Jack replies.
Melanie is busy in the kitchen wrapping up dinner preparations with Kalinin after spending the whole Saturday at Ryan’s family house, hanging out with Ryan and also dropping Kionna off for her play date with Aurora, Ryan’s five-year-old niece when her phone suddenly vibrates due to a notification that Melanie assumes is from Ryan, because they had an unfinished discussion, but it turns out that the notification is actually from heartily.me, the dating sight.“What the…?!” she stares at the message, her eyes glued to the screen, as she struggles to process the information.“For what felt like an eternity, I waited on the rooftop terrace for you to arrive with the beef and broccoli stir fry, but you didn’t show up,” Kalinin says as she walks swiftly into the kitchen, picks up the bowl of food before she returns to the rooftop terrace to continue serving dinner. Melanie doesn’t move from the position that she is glued in, her eyes are darting back and forth trying to figure out what cou
Melanie hesitates to give Caleb an answer because she doesn’t know if meeting up with him will be a good idea or not, but she already sort of agreed to meet up with him even though she didn’t exactly say yes, more so she was the one that reached out first so refusing to meet up will not look well on her path, and a part of her wanted closure, as to the real reason why he unmatched her if he was interested in exploring the possibility of a relationship with her.Caleb unmatching with her bruises her ego so bad, and she finds herself pondering about the pros and cons of meeting up with Caleb for the second time. She doesn’t want to discuss anything about Caleb with her sister again because the attitude she gave when she told her about Caleb unmatching her was not welcoming to her at all, so she decides to text Ryan instead because she feels like she will go crazy if she doesn't talk to somebody soon.“I found Caleb’s number on the dating site and I called him after thinking about if I
Caleb’s phone dings with the text from Melanie and as he reads his text, his eyes narrow, and his mind races as he processes the information because he knows that Bistro Bliss is Ryan’s family restaurant, so he is sure as hell that it can’t be a coincidence, so his gut twists with unease, recalling the growing closeness between Melanie and Ryan.“He is getting too close to her and I don’t like that at all,” Caleb thinks and a pang of jealousy strikes him, so he takes a deep breath for him to analyze his emotion.“I buried myself into so much work that I stopped trying to reach out to her for two weeks which allowed Ryan to plant himself into her life” Caleb’s rational side kicks in.“I should have tried to reach out to her again instead of waiting for her to reply my previous messages, but this meet-up should be an opportunity for me to clear the air about my radio silence, for us both to understand what happened on each other side and also for me to show Ryan that I am still in the
