Lame Excuses

Friday is finally here and I am about to leave the office and go straight to the airport. Elise is already waiting for me downstairs so I am so ready to relax. I have had such a long week. From Matteo cheating, that

was Wednesday, then Thursday I had the meeting with My dad and Uncle Miguel. I love them both so much. Alex was there but we really didn’t talk outside of business and the plans we had for Vegas. I found out this morning that they will actually be in the same hotel as us. Surprisingly, their Suite will be right next to us as well. I think that more than likely had to do with John, Elise fiancé. He just wants to be close to her. They are goals.

Elise and John have such a strong bond and love for each other. They both graduated high school and stayed together through college. She finished college last year and so did he. She is a year younger than her brother and I. John is the romantic one. He plans these elaborate dates and surprises her all the time. The way he looks at her is like she is the only girl in the world, and he will drop everything he is doing if she calls and needs him. I have witness this firsthand. He also joins the family dinners.

John grew up in foster care since his parents died in a car accident. He had no one to care for him so he went into the system. He did not let that bring him down. He never got adopted though. When he went into the system he was 13 and getting ready to start high school. He was left an inheritance that he could not access until he was 18. When he turned 18 he invested the majority of the money. He started his own trading company while he was in college and hired someone to oversee it. He currently works for Alex as well. He is a consultant for his company and helps with different types of projects. He used his funds to not only start a company, but he also bought a home for Elise and him for when they get married. He had also paid for his education and started a scholarship program for foster kids that never got adopted.

Elise currently also works for Alex. She is the head of Marketing and she loves her job. Alex’s family owns Empire Products. They make different products and market them to sell. They also have a trading sector which is Head up by John. John’s company runs all trading and investment portfolios for Empire Products. John and Elise love that they can work together as they can see each other as much as they please.

Once I am in the lobby, I receive a text from Matteo.

M: Please let me talk to you and explain everything

B: There is nothing to explain

M: I am here please just talk to me

B: What do you mean you are here?

“I mean I am right here” Matteo says. Here he is standing in front of me trying to look apologetic. I stand there and just stare at him.

“I really want to sit with you and explain things” he says

“You have 5 minutes as I am heading out.” I reply

“I know that I messed up, but you know I love you. I don’t love her, she was just to pass the time. I knew you were not ready for anything more. And well, I am sorry to say this but a man has needs. I know how that

sounds, but she was there and she seduced me and I screwed up and fell for that. I know that’s not an excuse, but I am willing to try again with you. Think about it, we can get back together, work on us, take the trip we planned to take to Vegas. We can get married and have kids. I want to spend my life with you. We can even help each other out business wise. I help you with your company and you can help with mine. Please, I love you, don’t give up on me” He says in his rant. I am looking at with disbelief. Did he actually think that was going to work and make me stay longer with him. I would never be able to trust the bastard.

“How long were you and her together? And please don’t try to lie to me because you are a horrible liar and you have a tell” I say

He sighs and his shoulder slumps “For the last 9 months. 3 months after we were officially together. She was in my office having lunch when she accidently spilled my drink when she slightly moved the table, well

one thing led to another and we ended up sleeping together in the office. Then it became something daily. I knew that you would only come over a few times a month so she would come over and stay at my place. We were never in a relationship it was just sex. I am so sorry.”

“Good to know. So let me tell you this. I don’t love you. If I were to ever get together with you which I highly doubt, I will never be able to trust you. Every word you say, I would doubt if it was the truth or a made

up version of the true or a lie. I will not live my life like that. My life is worth more than that. I would never be happy in our relationship. Also don’t worry about Vegas. I would not want to go with you. While you were talking with me, I have seen you check out 4 women. Do you honestly expect me to believe you would

never do such a thing again. Please! Now I have to head out. You have a great life.” With that being said I got up, and walked to the parking garage. I saw Elise standing at the doorway and it looks like she heard everything.

“Wow, that is all I am going to say. What an idiot. I cant believe he had the nerve to come try to win you back in that manner. Then he has the audacity to flirt as well as check out other women. Before you came down he got the receptionist phone number. I just . . .  Wow! Are you okay?” Elise says clearly shocked.

“I am fine. At least I know that I was not important to him at all. I mean he literally said men have needs. If it wasn’t for men like my father, your dad, and John, I would think all men were the same. I am pretty sure he wanted to be with me not because me but because of who I am. Its so pathetic.” I reply

“Well lets head out to the airport and forget about him. He is not worth it.” She says

“Your right, relaxation begins soon, lets go!” I respond.

We get in the car and the driver takes us to the airport. Once we are in we go through security and head to our gate. Once we are at the gate we wait for a bit before we board our plane. Elise and I watch a movie and fall asleep. Once we arrive, we head straight to the hotel. Our suite is absolutely beautiful. There is 2 bedrooms with king size beds, a dining room, a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and the most beautiful view of the strip.

We make plans to eat dinner at the hotel restaurant before going to bed a little early. The time difference is not really helping us out much. We get dressed after we put our stuff away. We call downstairs to the spa

and make our reservations for tomorrow. We will be pampered from 8-5. We are talking everything from massages, facials, mani, pedi, body wraps, hair, and waxes. We are going to be treated like queens. Once everything is ready to go we head down to the hotel’s restaurant.

The attendant ask for a name for the reservation and then seats us. Once we get to our table, we notice a few business men sitting at the table next to us. Surprise, surprise, we see Alex, John, and another man with his wife or date. Who knows these days. Maybe she is a mistress. Maybe I am just still a bit angry at being cheated on. Whatever. John sees us and calls us over. He asked the gentleman and lady if they would mind if we join them. They agreed. Even though I did not want to be there, we nodded because Elise was elated.

“Mr. and Mrs. Rivers, allow me to introduce you to my fiancée. This is Elise.” John  says

“Nice to meet you both” Elise reponds.

“Our pleasure” The couple responds. Well that answers my Question. They are married.

“And this is her best friend, Isabella. We have all been friends for a long time now. They have know each other since they were in diapers, and well I met them freshman year of high school.” John says.

“Pleasure to meet you” I say politely.

“Same to you” they respond.

“How was your trip ladies?” Alex asked

“We actually got in about an hour ago, we are planning on having dinner and then calling it a night. We are spending all day at the spa tomorrow and you guys can pick us up at 7 at our room.” Elise says.

“That sounds good.” Alex responds.

The dinner is pleasant and they talk about business and they sign the contract. We end up having good conversation with the Rivers. They explained their troubled start and how she left him because she thought he cheated and she ran away. They were in love. They remind me of my parents. You can tell they have been through so much which made their relationship stronger. They have a strong bond. Dinner is now over and we are getting ready to go to our rooms.

“Well, thank you all for the pleasant evening. I am going to head up and hit the bed. I am really exhausted today as it was a long one. Elise, do you have your key as I know you want to spend some time with John?” I say

“Yes, I do. I will be up in an hour or so. We are going to take a walk on the strip.” She says

“Sounds good. Enjoy” I say

“I will walk you up as I am going to bed as well. We flew in early and I am tired.” Alex says

Not in the mood to argue or fight with him, I just nod.

We are in the elevator and it is quiet. Once the elevator doors open, he looks at me and says “Do you mind if I come in? I really need to talk to you?”

I am not sure what to say but I nod.

I open the room door and show him to the living room. I ask him if he would like a drink or some water. He said he will just have a water. I get the water from the fridge and head back to the living room. I sit in the

coach opposite to him. He looks very nervous and like he is going to throw up or something.

I look at him and ask “Are you okay?”

He looks at me and says “I am okay, I am just trying to formulate how I want to say this. Just give me a moment to collect myself and please hear me out. Please don’t interrupt me because I need to get this out. Would that be okay?”

Now I am starting to get concerned. He looks like he is struggling.

This must be serious!
