Lauren walked into the kitchen, oblivious to the fact that Damien had been snooping around. “Tea?” she asked him, he nodded in response and she put the kettle on the fire.
“How are we going to do the test? We go together to a hospital, or we get a private doctor” She asked.
Damien walked to her, he put his hands on either side of her, holding the counter firmly. “The hospital is a better option, a private doctor might give false results.” He traced her jaw, fighting the urge to peer down and into her gown.
“The hospital it is then,” She said. He didn’t leave her or move away. Instead, he looked at her intensely, turning her head slightly to the left to get better access to her neck.
“What are you doing?” she asked, her voice incredibly lower as her heart beat faster. She looked into his green eyes, noticing how it had turned into a darker shade of green.
He didn’t answer her question, he kept tracing her jaw, eventually letting his finger slide all the way to her collar bone. He let it wander lazily down to her shoulder, then the top of her breasts.
“Damien…” she called unto him, her voice dropping below a whisper “We can’t…” she trailed off. Unable to think properly because of the warmth of his finger that was drawing lazy circles on top of her breasts.
Damien stopped what he was doing and was about to step back when Lauren grabbed a hold of his finger and put it back where it had been.
He looked at her, for confirmation that she was feeling what he was feeling. Also for permission that she wanted this as much as he did.
Lauren pushed her breasts into his chest, sighing in relief as her soft body molded with his strong, muscled ones. She closed her eyes, their touch transporting her back to the good old days when they had to note between them.
She looked back up at him, why did they have to end? It hurt so much that even after being away with him, she still craved him like she always had. This was why she stood on her toes and pressed her lips to his without thinking twice about it, so she wouldn’t back down.
Damien smiled against her lips before capturing it in a case. This was exactly what he wanted Nathan to see. He slipped his hand between them, tracing under Lauren’s breasts.
“Damien…” She moaned, pushing herself so close to him that there wasn’t any space anymore. Damien worked her slowly before covering her breasts with his very large hands making her sigh in relief. This was exactly what she wanted and had been craving for.
Still locking lips, Damien hoisted her up onto the kitchen counter. He separated her legs and stood between them, making her core crave for him in the process. He slips his hand up her back, then into her hair. He missed waking up to her hair sprawled all over his chest.
“I miss this” Damien muttered, pulling her close. Lauren’s hands moved frantically, her need for a release clouding her sense of judgment. She pulled at his shirt, pushing it away to reveal his huge chest. She let her hands explore having missed it for so long. Damien hummed in response before pulling her gown over her head to reveal the sight he had imagined seeing for so long.
“Still ever-beautiful,” he said, his voice raspy with need. He took her breasts in one mouth before sliding his palm down to her core where her thighs met, “So warm and beautiful” he said, his voice muffled by the flesh he was sucking on.
Lauren arched her back, biting her lip to stop her from screaming “I need you inside me now” she said, rushing her words.
Damien understood exactly how her body ached. He lay her back on the counter before ripping her underwear apart with his teeth. He let his pearly whites linger on her for a while before unleashing his tongue, just the way she liked it.
“Oh, Damien” she cried, wiggling her hips and thrusting them towards him. His hot breath hit her, caressing her in ways Nathan was never able to.
Damien stroked her, drinking up the juice she let trail down to him. he stood up and in one thrust before Lauren could recover, pushed himself into her, filling her up in more ways than one.
He started moving slow at first. Gently, savoring her warmth until she moved to meet his beat and drove him crazy. With the only release in both their minds, they drove themselves crazy with their need and after a minute, they both cried as they found release in each other's arms.
Damien rested his forehead on hers, both of them breathing heavily with exhaustion. “That was… something I should have never stopped doing,” He said.
Lauren remained silent, her head beginning to clear once her need was taken care of. She pushed him away and picked up her nightgown from where It lay on the floor.
“I should never have let you step into this house,” She said, pulling the gown over her head and putting a good distance between both of them.
Damien studied her closely, “Is that regret I see in your eyes Lauren?” he asked quietly, knowing his heart was going to break from her answer.
“Yes,” She folded her hands over her chest, unaware of how it pushed it higher, exposing them for Dame to see. “now I’m Married Damien”, she gestured between “Both of us can't happen anymore,” she said.
“And the baby?” Damien asked, looking away. He was hurt that she pushing him away even though he understood that she was no longer his.
Lauren looked away, her eyes darting from one corner of the kitchen to the other “We’ll go to the hospital tomorrow, then result should be out in a couple of days and we won't have to see each other again”.
Damien nodded, absentminded “Why are you so sure the result will turn out to be negative?” he asked
Lauren took a step forward “Because I will make sure of it”.
Nathan watched as Damien left his house, trying to understand the game he was playing at. He turned away when he saw Lauren slide to the floor with tears streaming down her face. he hated that he was hurting her but all he was trying to do was secure a future for them both.
He turned back from the surveillance room and went back into his lab. He walked to the tube where a figure that looked exactly like Damien was suspended, tubes and wire hanging from every part of his body. It might just be time again to bring him out to play.
“Sir, the perimeter was breached,” John said. He was Nathans assistant, having worked with him sone they were in college.
“I know John, I watched it myself,” Nathan said before walking back to his office to draw up a new plan. He called an unsaved number on his phone, the call was connected on the first ring.
“What happened to keep him away from my family forever?” Nathan asked the person he called.
“My man couldn’t get to him on time,” the person said, an apology on the tip of his tongue, for fear that Nathan would do something rash to him for failing his assignment.
“You know what we agreed on, find a way to fix this or let your family suffer the consequences,” Nathan said, inhumanly calm about the situation.
“I will do exactly as told this time”
“For your own sake, you better” Nathan hung up after that. He picked up his journal and began to outline the plan that was already taking foundation in his head. He hummed a rhyme he and Damien used to sing when they were still kids as he wrote.
When they had drifted about was when Damien decided he was in love with Lauren as they started dating. Things had been perfect when they were just three best friends, growing up and playing together.
Suddenly the trio turned into a couple and a third wheel. They stopped inviting him to the movies and started going on dates instead, just the both of them. By the time they were in college, the only real relationship that existed between him and Damien was that of mere roommates and childhood friends.
That was when he realized he had to do something, he had to keep them away from each other. At the same time, the fondness he had for Lauren had blown into an obsession, he had to have her no matter what.
He had come up with the most brilliant idea to keep them apart and both Damien and Lauren had fallen for it. He didn’t feel bad for it one bit. If they had both loved each other as they claimed, they would have seen right through his plan. Everything worked out for him in the end and he wouldn’t Damien ruin what he had spent so much time building.
With a final scribble, he set his journal down. Things were bound to get more interesting. He went back to the surveillance room, and watched little Harry sleep, as Lauren cried herself to sleep on the floor.
He had to destroy what Lauren and Damien had created. As long as Harry was there, beating Damien’s features for everyone to see, his family would never be truly happy.
With a final look at Lauren he left. He had to make a quick stop at the hospital. When he got in he requested his private doctor.
Sitting across from him in scrubs Dr. Dre looked at Nathan with dismay and uncertainty. Whenever Nathan came to see in person that meant something was wrong, he already had a bad feeling about it.
“Good morning doctor” Nathan greeted, rather cheerfully.
“To what do I owe this visit?”
“Going straight to the point I see.” Nathan sat up om his seat, pulling it closer before putting his hands on the table that sat between him and the doctor.
“My wife will be here tomorrow”
“Is she sick?” the doctor asked.
“No” he picked up the pen on the table and twirled it between his fingers “She’ll be coming for a paternity test with Damien, he wants to confirm the child is his”
“Everyone can see Harry is his” the doctor spoke without thinking. He covered his mouth when Nathan glared at him, realizing what he just said.
“I need you to make that result come out negative” Nathan said, taking his hands off the table and daring the door to say otherwise.
“But…”
“I don’t know what you’re going to do but I want you to make it happen. I don’t want Damien to take him away, I want to do that myself” Nathan finished and relaxed his hands on the table.
The doctor could only look, he knew Nathan was planning something and it wasn’t going to be pretty. He was among the few that knew and had seen just exactly what Nathan was capable of and how dangerous he could be, even to his own self.
“Okay,” Dre said, “Anything else?”
Nathan chuckled “You seem rather displaced with my plan” he leaned towards the doctor “Why is that?”
Dr. Dre gulped before answering “I’ve never asked questions whenever you asked me to do something, but I have something, just this once, don’t hurt the kid. Don't use him to punish his father, he doesn’t deserve that” he looked at Nathan, waiting for his reaction. What he got was Nathan laughing like he had said something so hilarious.
“You think I would hurt a kid?” Nathan laughed louder, clapping his hands in the process, “Doctor, you must think so bad of me”
Dre wanted to say he didn’t trust Nathan one bit but held himself, Nathan was the most unpredictable human he knew, and staying on his bad side was something he never wanted to do.
“No sir, You’re the loveliest person I know,” Dre said instead, going ahead to look away for fear that his eyes would betray him and show the words he truly wanted to say.
“It’s fine Dr. Dre, I pray for redemption every day. You don’t have to lie to me”.
Stones crunched under Damien’s tires as he pulled into the driveway where Lauren was waiting for him with Harry in her arms. He came out of the car and opened the door for her. “You did not have to do that,” She said as she got in, carrying the little boy close to her chest. Damien said nothing and got onto his own side of the car. Lauren watched him from the corner of her eyes as he pulled out of the house, his jaw unmoving. She looked out of the window, if he wasn’t going to speak to her then she wasn’t going to say anything either. “I called the hospitals ahead of time and there's only one with an opening to directly meet the doctor” he explained as he pulled into the hospital. Lauren immediately felt a chill when he stopped at the car park. This was the exact hospital she had woken up to, only to learn that she was married to Nathan. There was just something about it that was unsettling and the fact that Damien might have called ahead of time to make plans wi
The table is quiet, everyone is afraid to voice their thoughts and what happened the previous day. Damien cleared his throat and turned towards his parents. “I'll be going back today,” he said. They both turn to him in shock “Why? I thought you came back for this?” His father asks him “You can't just give up your child and walk away” his father scolds him. Damien looked at him with a straight face “That’s exactly what I plan to do. Lauren wants me out of the picture and if that's what will make her happy then fine” “He’s not her child, he’s your son too. Take some responsibility” His father yells. His mother puts a hand on his arm to call her husband down. “There’s no need to argue over this Gab,” she said to him “I’m sure he has a reason for coming to this conclusion” she squeezes his hand and he reciprocates. “I understand exactly how he's feeling but, Nathan is going to win if you let this go…” his father continued, despite Paula’s warning glance. “It’s
Five minutes to go. Damien was furious but he didn’t let his anger consume him. he waited as they inspected his jet before deeming it safe for flying. He was going to his summer house in Hawaii, where he could unwind before thinking of the next thing to do. He checked his watch, he was already late. He wondered if Lauren was waiting for him, or if she already figured out he left. His best guess was that she would be happy with her now perfect little family, he was no longer there to pose a threat to them. He bet Nathan would even throw a party that he removed him from the picture for good. “We're all set,” One of the attendants told him. Damien brushed off his suit before walking towards the jet, knowing that he would never set foot here again. This was perhaps the last time he would see his parents unless they finally decided to leave their home and travel elsewhere. He didn’t know why they were so adamant about traveling and leaving their home. Well, if he was married to
Everyone is quiet for a while, trying to digest the reality of what had just been saying. That was the only explanation and they both didn’t know what that meant for the safety of their child. “He would never…” Lauren trailed off knowing that she was just lying to herself. This was exactly what Nathan could do. If he did it before to break them up then he would do definitely do it again to keep them apart. Lauren broke into tears and Damien gathered her in his arms “Don’t worry, I’m going to find our child and bring him back safely” he whispered, gently stroking her hair as she cried. “I need to go back, beg him… “ She said through the tears “You can't do that” Damien said immediately “It’s too dangerous and lord knows he would never admit to it. That’s the kind of person that he is”. “What should I do then, I need to go back. I can't stay here and pretend that everything’s fine” Damien thought for a while, weighing the options that he had. “You can't go back e
It had been a long time since Lauren heard the birds sing early in the morning or the early sun come down to kiss her skin a good morning. She smiled as the birds sang louder, their sweet melody making her drift in and out of sleep. She was afraid to open her eyes, she didn’t want this bliss she felt to come to an end. She felt Damien turn on his own side of the bed and drape his arm on her torso. “Regretting what happened already?” he said, his voice still deep with sleep she snuggled closer to him, his body keeping her warm “Not at all”. “Then what are you thinking of so early in the morning,” He asked. He snapped his eyes open when she didn’t answer for a while. He smiled, signaling that he had nothing to worry about “I don’t want this moment to end” she confessed “This is the happiest I’ve been since I woke in that hospital” she said. She reached out and kept her palm on his face “And it’s all because of you” “I hate that everything turned out this way,”
The next morning was quiet and awkward. Mostly awkward with Damien not knowing how to explain everything to Lauren. His eyes were red with eye bags, evidence that he hadn’t slept the previous night. Lauren’s face wasn’t far from his. He had gone out early that morning to get her clothes as she hadn’t come with any, so now he was pacing outside his door and wondering how to give her the items. Finally, he knocked lightly before pushing the door open when he got no response. He heard the shower running, he should have left then but he didn’t. he placed the shopping bag on the bed and went to the bathroom. He could see her through the transparent glass, his body suddenly aching for her. he shook his head and left abruptly when she put off the shower. He didn’t know why he was still thinking of her, it was enough punishment already that he was making her leave. The table was set when Lauren walked into the kitchen, she ignored it, not touching anything no matter how
With unsteady steps Lauren bound up the stairs of her home, her face downcast and troubled, she had a feeling something was wrong but she didn’t know what it was. Nathan wasn’t home when she came in. she looked around the house with pure disgust, she didn’t know how she was going to keep living here with Nathan and pretend that she was still the happy wife that he had married. She wanted to tear down the entire house and set it ablaze but she couldn’t do something that rash, Nathan was too dangerous. She didn’t know what she would do if he tried to harm Damien in any way. Damien had promised to bring Harry back and he was holding him to his words. Maybe if she finally held Harry in her arms she might be happy again. But deep down, she knew she would never truly feel complete without Damien by her side. She brought a bottle of whisky and poured herself a glass, she needed to cool her head so she would be able to handle Nathan when he got back. She was halfway thr
The sun was too bright, hammering down on her already aching head. Lauren rubbed her eyes but remained in bed. She didn’t want to face her reality too soon plus she was having a mad hangover. The door to their room creaked but she left her eyes closed. “I know you’re awake, come eat your hangover soup” Came Nathan’s sweet voice as he entered with the tray he was holding before setting it down on the bed. Lauren slowly opened her eyes, the sun biting into them as she whizzed in pain and sat upright on the bed. Now she remembered why she had quit drinking years ago, the hangovers were the worst. “Sorry baby, drink this and you’ll be fine. Had to wake up early this morning to prepare it” he said sweetly, smiling. She opened her mouth as he scooped the soup with the spoon and fed it to her. she couldn’t help but look into his office, he looked like he hadn’t slept at all in the night. “Busy all night? She asked as she took another spoonful of soup, the bitter taste
Jenny is still in bed sleeping when I finally get up. Drew left a few minutes ago with the drive, he’s going to turn Father in. He had insisted I remain at home with Jenny while he handles it.While I trust Drew fully, I can’t help the feeling of unease that has taken root in my stomach. The door bell rings on my way downstairs to figure out what Jenny will eat when she wakes up.I open the door. “Did you forget something?”When there’s no answer from Drew I look up and realize he’s not the one at the door. It’s Daisy.“Hey, come in,” I tell her, moving to the kitchen. Does she have the mother thing that alerted her that I’m taking her child away? I pull out a bottle of liquor from stash, carrying a glass with it. If I can get her tipsy enough she wouldn’t even worry about Jenny, and we can all be on our way.Besides it’s not like she cared enough for Jenny, I don’t even want to imagine where she’s going to leave her once I’m up and gone. That seals my decision to have Jenny come with
My face is pressed to the window the entire home. I realize how much I’ve missed home when we pull into the driveway. It has become some sort of sanctuary for me, a place where I can have peace and love. Drew helps me out of the car, holding my hand as he leads me to the door. The minute he opens the door Jenny comes running towards me, like she has been waiting the entire time. She hugs my waist like her life depends on it. I put my hand around her shoulders and keep her close to me.“Are you alright mummy?” she asks softly, gazing at me with her round cute eyes.I push her hair away from her face. “I’m alright princess, did you miss me?”It was a silly question to ask because her answer could be seen from miles away.“Of course I did,” she says with a pout. “I missed Jakey too, how is he?”I rub the little one so he does not feel excluded from our conversation. “He’s alright, he misses you too,” I tell her. That sits good with her because she beams up at me and then looks at my stom
My breath slows down as I watch him fall to the floor with a thud. In a minute I’m sprinting to his side and shaking him to wake up.I look around but there’s no one to help me. Taking his face in my hands I shake him again. “Drew! Wake up! Have you had so much to drink?” I ask him despite knowing he can’t hear him.Bending towards him I smell his breath, it was clear. Then why would- The wine, that was the last thing I saw him take, and he was being weird about it.Could the wine have been- I’m too afraid to admit what my brain already knew. He must’ve know too that the wine was poisoned and he readily took it from me and drank. That was why father looked furious.Uh Oh, Father knows.I look back to the door, half expecting Father to walk through it. I look back to Drew he was already turning a little too pale.“Why did you have to drink it?” I ask him, exasperated. “You should have thrown it away,” I cry.I don’t think I’ve ever felt this helpless before. My purse is in there with J
There’s no a single explanation my mind can conjure for what happened. Every time I think I have it all figured out, another wall comes crashing into me.Does he not want to return because of me? Then what of Jenny? She misses him and he clearly misses her too, seeing how he risked coming to the park just to get a glimpse of her.My head is beginning to ache and the doubt that it was actually him begin to slip into the cracks of my mind.Drew could be right and I was just imagining him. If that was the case then my mind is daring very vivid, because the longing and worry I saw in his eyes couldn’t have been easily conjured with so much emotion attached to them.My entire body trembles as I exhale. In all of this I’m glad I reacted on time to my fall, otherwise Jakey could’ve been hurt and all for nothing at that. Keeping him means so much to me than going after what could possibly be Don’s look alike.I massage my forehead, the discomfort in there bordering on being unbearable. The As
I don’t come downstairs until the doorbell rings. I’ve done a pretty good job of avoiding Jenny and now I was going to risk running into her.The entire house is quiet when I come down, she must be taking a nap. For some reason I tiptoe to the door and stifle a startle when I open the door to a rather grumpy looking Dr. Shelby. All since I’ve know him, he’s always smiling, patient. There was this airiness that surrounded him, it always made you feel at ease with him. But all that is left now are deep frown lines of his face and I hate to be the reason for it.“How did you think drinking while being pregnant was a good idea?” he asks the moment he steps past the threshold. “Why keep a child you’re not going to take proper care of?”My breath seizes in my lung. With a slight tilt to my head I study his expression. His eyes are accusing as the glares at me. This right here is not Dr. Shelby. Someone has taken him and put in place this angry version that I’m not used to.If anything I fee
It’s my first day as Cassie. Like I think she does every morning, I’m sitting in front of the dresser and struggling to put on makeup.I don’t know how Cassie used to do it, the perfect flawless look she always had whenever I saw her.I can’t even tell which comes first, I’m holding a small bottle that has foundation written on it but I have no idea how to get it on my face. How they hell was she able to use all this stuff? I throw the brush in front of me on the floor. At this rate I’m never going to leave the house.I hear Drew as he comes into the room. “What’s the matter?” he asks.I frown when I turn and see him with only a towel wrapped around his waist.“Carrie?”That brings my attention back to him. I force my gaze back up and glare at him. “I told you to call me Cassie, we can’t have you slipping up like this when we leave the house.”He scratches his chin lightly. “How about I give you a pet name, it’s only natural since we’re supposed to be married. It feels awkward calling
Everyday that I see the sun rise is torture to my soul. Every morning that I wake up without Don by my side tears my heart into a million pieces.I don’t know where life ends and where death starts. They’ve both become the same to me. It has made me prisoner in this dark perilous place called my mind. I sit by the window every night and wait for the morning never breaks, but that even is too much to ask. This is my own hell. This is my own home. There’s nothing on the news about the explosion. If I hadn’t been there myself I wouldn’t even believe that it happened. No bodies have been found. That is both my hope and my nightmare. Two long months of emptiness and guilt, that is my punishment. What if he’s really gone? What if he didn’t survive? No one would be alive and stay hidden for that long. What if he’s out there looking for me?I deflate at that. The chances are unlikely, especially after the way we parted. I should have held onto him a little longer, laced his fingers with mine
I light a cigar immediately as I enter the elevator and puff with a sigh. Home is a place where everyone longs to be. A sanctuary, some would say but it isn’t the same for me. It’s the last place I want to be.I loosen my tie as I get into the car. “Take the longer route,” I tell my driver when he gets in. There’s a hum and I know he heard me. Like every other employee he knows not to speak to me because there was no telling what my reaction would be. To them, I'm the hot-headed son with a short temper. It looks like only Karl didn’t get the memo after he was hired. Now that my mind has wandered back to him, I pull out my phone and put a call through to HR. When Thelma connects the call, I ask her to send me all the files on Karl and everything he submitted during his employment process. It would be on my desk first thing in the morning.I take another puff as the car rolls down the road. It’s going at a perfect pace for me. Not slow but also not fast enough to get me home earlier tha
It’s been five minutes since I broke into my house and another two since I made it up the stairs to my bedroom. The only sound I hear as I move through the house is my heavy breathing. I half expect someone to jump out of the shadows but there’s no one.I stand still in front of my door, my hand in the air, mid-way to the knob. I’m not sure what to expect after ten years. Did they move my things out or did they simply ignore the room like they always ignored me?The silence drowns out my thoughts as I recall what I’m here for. Get the drive and be gone before anyone comes back. With a gulp, I push the door open and switch on the lights. When my eyes adjust to the room I see that everything is exactly where it used to be. My favorite teddy bear that Thomas bought me when I was five is still lying against the side of my bed. Even my books are still all over the floor from when Cassie barged into my room the day before our last birthday together and demanded that I give her my toys to pl
