I still couldn't process the fact that Aiden kissed me. After the kiss, I didn't waste a minute but rushed towards my place and never came out. A part of me wanted Aiden to follow me or knock at my door when the night unfolds, however, I decided to not show myself out for a couple of days. I spent the weekend indoors, reading and applying for jobs. It was nice to find myself in solitude for a few days, which gave me time to think.
It took a while when Sunday blew in and I decided to visit Anna for our usual movie nights. I left her a message only to know that she was planning on going to the club and invited me to tag along."Some other time, Anna. I really don't enjoy parties that much", I replied to the phone.Parties trigger my anxiety and bring back some unwanted memories that I desperately try to bury with me. I knew that Anna would insist and I prepared myself to answer her in all ways."Come on, Haven", she said, "have fun for once in your life"After a long conversation of her requesting and me declining, she let out a long sigh."Fine. Meet me tomorrow for the movie night.", she said, in a sing-song voice making me giggle....It was late at night and I decided to take a short walk across the empty streets to clear my head. My mind drifted back to the kiss and Aiden. I never really understand him. His eyes seem to hold secrets and emotions, yet he chooses to mask them all with speckles of sleet and anger. I had never been this intrigued by someone. With all the thoughts in my mind, I didn't realize that I had been walking for almost an hour. I decided to return back when I felt someone's presence behind me."Lost, aren't we?", said someone, making me snap my head towards them. There stood a man, reaching almost 6 feet, scrutinizing me with a subtle smirk etched on his face. I took a step back only to see him approach me further, frightening me to the core." I really have to go", I whispered, turning away to jolt towards my place."Why the rush?", I heard a bleach blonde man say, confronting me with two other men.Suffocation enclosed me and I started breathing heavily. The feeling of powerlessness brought back flashes of unwanted memories, triggering my anxiety. I stepped back from them only to hit my back against the first man who approached me."Don't make it harder than it already is.", he whispered in my ear, ruffling the hair that fell on my neck.I started struggling against them as my life depended on it. In a way, it did. I started crying after letting out a small scream as I felt more helpless." You stupid bitch", said the bleach blonde man, striking me right against my face.I fell down on the ground, hurting my side. My head began to spin when I felt the corner of my lip bleeding."Now, be a good girl like you should be and give up," he said, hauling me up by my arm.I continued crying hysterically while I let fatigue almost consume me. Before passing out, I saw someone pull me away from the captor and land heavy punches on him. My vision was hazy when I saw him take down all those four people with directed anger and skill. I fell down only to be gently grabbed by my savior.A pair of familiar hazel eyes filled with concern was the last thing before me before I shut down....My eyes fluttered open when I heard a slight noise of rufflings. I was in a huge, unfamiliar room, sitting on a surprisingly comfy bed. The walls were dark and the room smelled of a familiar masculine cologne. It took me a whole while to realize that there was someone standing by the door observing my actions."Are you okay?", I heard the person say.I immediately recognized whose that voice belonged to. Aiden. A part of me was relieved, while the other frightened me to the core.I nodded my head quietly."Here, take this.", he said, handing me a glass of water.I quickly gulped it down, feeling dehydrated."What time is it?", I asked, my throat feeling much better by hydrating it.I glanced at the clock to see that it was half-past nine."Oh my god!", I exclaimed, quickly jumping out of the bed. "I need to go. I have work."I almost sprinted out of the door before looking back and thanking him truthfully. If it weren't for Aiden, I couldn't even imagine what would have happened.I opened the door only to be grabbed by my arm."I don't think it's wise to go for work, Haven", Aiden said, slightly loosening his grip on my arm.I took a minute, contemplating whether to argue. With experience, I knew that the littlest things could set him off. Before I opened my mouth to reply, I was pulled into someone's arms."Omg! You're awake!!!", they said, crushing me.It was a woman, around three inches taller than me with stunning green eyes. Her hair was a shade of strawberry blonde inclining towards red, just like autumn leaves under the bright sun."Calm down, Lisa", said Aiden, evidently annoyed at her."Oh please! You were the one worried about her, the whole night.", she said, before calling out for someone named 'Brandon.'I heard footsteps making their way through the stairs while they talked."I was not.", he replied, grimly.Lisa let out a fake laugh, punching his arm lightly." Next time, don't dine on your nails or be all handsy with your hair while fretting to make it more convincing", she said, cackling loud, once again. While they argued, I heard "Brandon" rushing upstairs. He stood a little shorter than Aiden with muscly arms and a hint of mischief could be observed in his features. Lisa kissed him on his lips and explained the situation, which resulted in them teaming up against Aiden to tease him more. It was amusing."You should have breakfast with us", said Brandon, holding my palm, gently. We headed downstairs, where they called someone named Martha. While seated, I took my time to observe the surrounding. It looked like a pretty huge place with modern architecture and a tinge of a rustic look. Martha made her way across the kitchen and set the tray of delicious items on the table. I then realized that I had been hungry for a while then. I shrugged off every single time my mind drifted back to remind me of work and started to eat. During the course, I realized that Lisa was Aiden's sister. She and her boyfriend, Brandon often crash at Aiden's place for work-related things. I did not question them further about their work knowing it would be something that would disappoint me....After breakfast, Lisa and Brandon made their way upstairs leaving me and Aiden alone. I was bizarrely nervous to be around him, however, not frightened. For some reason, I feel safe around him, also considering the fact that he saved me."Thank you, once again. For everything.", I said. "I think, I should go now."He was checking something on his phone with his arm resting against the counter before looking up to meet my eyes. His eyes were something that I'd never get used to. Something about them does not let me look away or forget them. They had been inscribed in my brain since the first time I had seen them."I'll drop you", he said without any hesitance. Before I could argue further, he grabbed his keys and made his way outside the place. I stumbled my way behind him while he opened the car door to the passenger seat.We were silent almost the whole ride back home before I decided to cut through it."Lisa seems like a very bubbly person", I said, remembering her noticeable energy. He uttered a quick "yes, she is" with his eyes on the road, never glancing away.I started to realize that I walked for so long to be this far from my house or Aiden's place seem to be further away."What were you doing there all alone? In the middle of the night?", he said, after some time, glancing at me slightly. To be honest, I did not have an answer. If I did, it would sound stupid. I put my curl behind my ears and replied." I lost my way after attending a party," I said, trying to make it believable. He raised his brow before replying."It didn't look like it. Are you lying to me, Haven?", he asked, without showing even the tiniest bit of hesitancy.I took a deep breath before attempting to tell him the truth." I came outside for a walk to clear my head. I didn't realize that I was going astray.", I said, feeling stupid by the way it sounded. He seemed convinced but he didn't respond, leaving m
It took us a little while to get back to his place in silence. Uncannily, I didn't want to get off the car. I just wanted the journey back to go on forever, putting the time on loop and not even getting a glimpse of the future. When we reached his place, I expected him to get off the car and make me do the same. However, we stayed still for a few minutes in silence before Aiden started the engine and drove around for a little more time. I was too tired to be surprised how he could know what I wanted."I need to tell Anna about all of this, I guess", I said. "Uhm, she kind of invited me over tonight. And, it'll be a problem if she randomly comes over to my place."Aiden seemed to be thinking about what I had said as his frown deepened."Don't visit her for a few days, until I understand the seriousness of this situation. You can just tell her that you'll be busy for a couple of days.", he said, still putting thought to it. "Just find a reason.""Yeah, just blatantly lie to her.""Blata
It had been a while since I started my stroll. I started to think that it had become my thing to forget time while going on walks to get some fresh air. Remembering that the last time I did this it didn't go well, I decided to go back. No matter how many times I find myself in front of the mansion-like house of Aiden, I can never get used to it.I hummed along with the song that was playing in my head parallelly with my thoughts while stepping inside the house. I decided to greet Martha and let her know that I came back home before going to bed. However, shattered pieces of the bud vase that used to stand on the end table caught my attention. I immediately dashed inside to see if Martha was okay only to find her cleaning an even larger mess of glass bottles and glasses."Oh my god! Martha! Is everything okay?", I exclaimed, rushing towards her and picking up pieces."Oh! It's okay, dear. I think Aiden is having a bad day. He tends to take it out on things surrounding him.", she said l
I prepared my monologue in mind when I saw him enter the house, checking something on his phone. He went straight to his room after sending a quick glance at me. This was it. I decided to go to his room, knock on the door, and tell him that I needed to talk to him about something.Letting out a huge sigh, I made my way across his room being hit with a sense of Deja Vu. It was funny though, a few hours ago I decided to just run away from this place and go home. However, I was not someone who'd make impromptu decisions. I didn't want to risk anything or anyone. So, there I was succumbing to the gravity of the situation and standing in front of his door. I slightly knocked on his door and waited for him to say something."What?", he snapped, clearly agitated with someone disturbing his solitude.I cleared my throat before speaking."Uhm, it's me", I said, softly. After what felt like a minute or two, he opened the door. I rested my head on the bed and stared blankly at the ceiling. Last night, we kissed again. I guess, it could have gone more forward but we stopped and declared that it was too late. It was almost nine, which means I had to get ready for work, which means I had to face Aiden. Would it be awkward to look him in the eye after last night? I was not sure.I lazily dragged myself to the bathroom and got ready for the day.Breakfast was moderately entertaining. I told Martha about college and a little bit of my previous job. With everything that had been happening the last few days, I realized that I had not been checking my emails or applying to new jobs nearby. We chatted for some more time until I saw Aiden making his way down the stairs and checking something on his phone. I took a sharp breath and held it for God knows how long. He gave me a quick glance and approached the dining table. Martha immediately got up, ready to serve him breakfast."Finish your breakfast, Martha", he said, b
I think it is established by now that whenever Aiden and I seem to look at each other, our eyes always trail towards each other's eyes. They are the complete opposite which makes it all the more reason to be attracted."Hey", I chirped, making James turn his head to take a look at who I was waving at. It was obvious to him that I didn't know anybody in this town except him and Anna. And right then, Aiden too.Aiden made his way towards us and stood there impatiently."Shall we go?", he said, tapping his foot restlessly on the ground.I frowned at him. He was unnecessarily rude to James by not acknowledging that I had company or that there was a familiar human right next to us. I decided to ease the atmosphere by ignoring his question."Aiden, this is James one of my best friends at work. James, this is Aiden, uhh you know?", I said, pointing at each other.James replied with a 'hi' to which Aiden responded with a nod."Shall we go now?", he repeated. This made me even more agitated at
My mind concocted various reasons why Anna would run away from me. I connected the dots to the day when I found bruises on her face. Was she in trouble? The very thought that she could be in trouble and I had been doing nothing to help her, killed my insides. I redialed her number only to find it going straight to voicemail."Hey, Anna! How are you? I thought I saw you at the club but couldn't reach you. There are so many things I need to tell you. Something about last night helped me have a better sleep. I did not know whether it was because of the assurance that Anna would be safe or the certainty that Aiden would always be there for me no matter what.I woke up later than usual with heavy body aches. I blamed it on Lisa for tiring me out by taking me out. My daily ritual continued until it was time for me to go to work. I had second thoughts about going to work with my fatigue, so I decided to inform James and go late."Hey, James.", I chirped into the phone. " I can't make it early today. Is it possible to cover for me for a few hours?""Sure, Haven. Is everything okay?", He asked, worried."Yeah, just a little sick, Jamie.", I said.It was understandable for him to be worried because I had not usually asked him to cover for me unless it was an emergency....I made my way down the stairs and greeted Marth
I could not concentrate much on work even with James around to crack the lamest jokes. After some time, he approached me with a grim expression. "Is everything okay, Haven?", he asked. "You seem to be a little off today." "Yes, James. I am fine. Just a little tired.", I said, letting out a sigh. He gave me a side hug and rubbed my shoulder as a sign of comfort. The little things he does and says usually leave an impact on me. I decided to tell him about Anna and my decision to tell her everything. "James.", I said, "I need your advice about something." He looked at me slightly surprised as I usually do not do this. James knew me and saw me as an independent woman. So, seeing me in confusion and desperate for advice could have perplexed him. "Of course, Haven. What do you need?", he said, frowning. "Let's go to Blossombee after our shift and you tell me everything there?" I nodded and continued with my work while he gave me one last glance before going back to his shift. It felt
