Ava’s Pov

“Silence!” The voice of Councilman John boomed across the room. Chaos had erupted in the council chamber, and everyone was desperate to diffuse the situation in any way they could. Everyone had come to testify against me.

My mother, my sister Betty, even the maids in the house claimed they had seen me sneaking around with wolfsbane. “I have always tried to raise my daughter with love…” My mother began, fake tears rolling down her cheeks as she wiped them with the back of her hand. “If I had known she would grow to hate her sister so much, even going as far as harming her and killing the heir out of jealousy… What kind of a child are you?” She shouted at me, bursting into tears that I could clearly see were fake.

Ever since the incident, I had been locked away in a cold cell for days, barely given anything to eat. No matter how many times I begged and pleaded, claiming to have nothing to do with the terrible thing that happened to my sister and her child, nobody believed me. Absolutely nobody did.

I remembered what Rob had said to me, and my anger only increased at the memory. He had confronted me, his words cruel and painful just a few days earlier, anger all over his face.

I recalled his words clearly. He had said, “I can't believe you would do this, Ava. Would you seriously go that far out of jealousy? I know I wronged you, but you did that? Seriously? How cruel can you be?”

My heart had shattered at his words that day. Tears rolled down my face as I clung to the last remnants of hope. “Rob, please… you have to believe me. I didn’t do it. I was jealous of Betty, yes, but I would never stoop so low as to poison her. You know I wouldn’t.” My voice broke, raw with desperation.

He studied me with that cold, piercing gaze, his jaw clenched so tightly it looked painful. “Do you think I am a fool, Ava?” His words came out as a low snarl. “Everyone saw how you looked at her, the hatred in your eyes every time she entered a room. And now you want me to believe this is all just a coincidence?”

I flinched, reaching out instinctively, only for him to pull back, his eyes narrowing in disgust. “You are a liar, Ava. And a coward.” His words were painful, slicing through me like a blade. “You are not even willing to own up to what you did. You would rather drag everyone down with you, won’t you? How is it even her fault that you were a barren?

I stared in shock, is this really what he thinks about me? A pathetic bitter barren? “Rob, how can you say that to me? please…” I choked, clutching my chest as the pain got worse. “I didn’t do it. You know me better than this. You know I would never hurt her like that.”

He let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head slowly. “Clearly, I don’t know you at all. The woman I thought I loved wouldn’t have betrayed me like this. The woman I loved wouldn’t be capable of this kind of cruelty.” His voice hardened, and he took a step back, looking at me as if I were a stranger. “But I suppose I was wrong about you. I was wrong about everything.”

I could feel my whole world shattering, his words slashing through me, leaving me raw and exposed. But he wasn’t done.

“For your betrayal and the disgrace you have brought upon this pack,” he continued, his voice colder than I had ever heard, “I reject you as my mate, Ava.” His eyes bored into mine, unflinching, his face like stone. “From this moment on, you are nothing to me. Nothing.”

My knees gave out, and I collapsed to the ground, his words repeating itself in my mind like a death sentence. The pain was unbearable, a hollow, aching void ripping through my chest. Even now, standing in the courtroom, the memory of that moment felt like fresh wounds, each word as brutal and merciless as the day they had been spoken.

Why couldn’t he see the truth? Why had he, of all people, turned his back on me so completely? The betrayal burned, raw and unforgiving.

“Luna Betty and Madam Ava hadn’t really gotten along. I guess that must have led her to do what she did,” I heard a maid testify against me. I wanted to speak up to defend myself, but I wasn’t allowed to. I was forced to keep quiet during the entire process.

My eyes darted to Betty, who was shedding tears I could tell were fake. But as soon as she noticed I was staring at her, and no one else was, she let out a small smile at me, and my heart shattered further.

How can anyone be this horrible? What exactly would she gain if I was thrown in jail for the rest of my life or, worse, killed? Did she plan this? Did she do this just so I could be punished? But no one would go that far. Not even Betty would go as far as harming her own child just to get rid of me. She does not hate me that much

Or does she?

“All of the evidence points to you, Ava, as the culprit in this crime, and the council has discussed it. We would like to forward your punishment,” Councilman Jacob spoke. I looked at Rob again, but just like before, he avoided eye contact with me at all costs, not wanting to glance my way.

“For your crimes of killing the alpha's heir, although this pack doesn’t quite administer the death sentence…” He paused for a moment before saying, “but that is simply what you deserve. So Ava, for your sin, you shall be sentenced to death by wolfsbane injection. You shall die exactly the way you have killed the future alpha of this pack.”

Their words were sealed. Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked at him. Rob, who also looked at me, had a look on his face that showed he was shocked by this sentence. My heart clenched as I shook my head, muttering, “I didn’t do it…”

He didn’t say a word; instead, he averted his gaze from mine as tears rolled down my cheeks. The pain was overwhelming, each tear a reminder of my hopelessness. Is this really how I am going to die?

“May I object to that judgment, dear council…” A voice suddenly cut through the chaos, stealing everyone’s attention. Immediately, we all turned toward the source of the voice as a man calmly walked toward us, a confident look on his face and a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

Everyone appeared shocked to see him, and I couldn't understand why. He looked strikingly similar to Rob—tall with a powerful build, dark hair that fell perfectly across his forehead, and piercing blue eyes that held a depth I couldn't ignore. His chiseled jawline and confident stance made him undeniably handsome, exuding an aura of power and control. He looked perfect in every sense, as if he had stepped right out of a magazine.

I glanced toward Rob to gauge his reaction, and he was just as shocked as everyone else. The man walked closer, fixing his gaze on me with a confident expression that made my heart race. As he stood right in front of me, something about him felt familiar. My wolf stirred inside me, reacting in a way I couldn't quite explain. A small smile tugged at his lips as he looked at me, and I caught a whiff of his scent—warm and intoxicating. Where had I smelled him before?

My wolf stirred even more; being an omega, she was usually dormant, always docile. But now, something about her felt very different, strange in a way I couldn't comprehend. Why was she reacting to this stranger? Why did I feel a connection to him that I couldn’t process?

My questions were answered when my wolf whispered a word that shocked me.

“Mate…”

What? This stranger is my mate? How was that possible? I already had a mate before and he rejected me. How was it even possible to have two mates?

“As much as it would be fun to see a public elimination, I can't just let you do that to my mate,” he said, a confident smirk spreading across his face.

He knew? That I was his mate too?

As soon as he uttered those words, gasps filled the room. I was shocked too, trying to process what was happening. Who was this man, and how did he have the audacity to disrupt the council like this?

“Mate?” I heard Rob’s voice, asking just to be sure.

“Yes, brother,” the stranger answered, then added with a knowing look, “mate…”

Brother? Did he just call him brother? It was at that moment I realized who he was and why he seemed so familiar. Lycan Iris. He was none other than Rob's elder brother—the man who was supposed to be the leader of this pack before he had given up the position. He was powerful, rich, and influential, known for his strategic mind and commanding presence. Everyone respected him, and his mere existence commanded attention.

“If you don't mind, I would like to take my mate away.” He paused for a moment before turning to me. “You told me to help you get away, remember? That night. Here I am to finally fulfill my promise,” he flashed a little smile at me before adding “sorry I am a little late.”

At first, I didn't understand what he was talking about. But then it all began to make sense, and my eyes widened in surprise as images of that night flashed in my head.

Really? This was happening in front of me, but I didn’t want to believe it. The shock I felt at that moment was indescribable.

Lycan Iris was the man from that night. I couldn't remember everything due to the effects of the alcohol, but now it hit me hard: I had slept with my ex-husband's brother???

Ava's PovSuddenly, my life felt like a movie. Everything was happening so fast that I barely had time to process it all. Lycan Iris? My one-night stand was now the father of the child I was carrying. What was going on? Was I stuck in some kind of dream with no way out? I couldn’t stop questioning myself. “Impossible!” Councilman John’s voice boomed across the room. “You can’t just show up here out of nowhere and make demands, Lycan Iris. This woman was responsible for killing the future heir of this pack. She has to be punished, and we cannot simply let you take her away.” I saw Lycan Iris’s eyes darken. His expression became so intimidating that it sent chills down my spine. Even Councilman John looked uncomfortable. From his face, I could tell he was shaken by the look Lycan Iris had just given him. “Remember years ago,” Lycan began, his voice steady, “when I stepped down from the alpha position for my brother? I believe I stood in this very council room then…” He took a st

Ava’s Pov "U… us?" I managed to get the words out, even though I could barely control the stammer that followed. He wanted to talk about us? Was there even an us? He and I held eye contact, my heart pounding so fast I could barely keep up. And my wolf... she stirred inside me, restless, almost uncontrollable. His eyes lingered on me, starting with mine before dropping lower. Lower and lower, until they landed on my lips. Nervously, I bit down on them, and I saw his eyes darken. It was like he wanted to give in, to close the space between us. Oddly enough, I didn’t find the thought strange. In fact, I welcomed it. What the hell was wrong with me? My thoughts were a mess. “T… that night... you took advantage of me when I was vulnerable, didn’t you? You just decided to have your way with me,” I said, my voice trembling. He let out a low chuckle, his hand slowly reaching for my hair. Gently, he tucked it behind my ear. "I’m not the type to take advantage," he murmured, his voi

Ava's Pov You want us to do what?” The haze clouding my mind from kissing him vanished in an instant. My senses snapped back, and I immediately pushed myself off him. Iris or rather, Lycan Iris didn’t seem fazed. His expression had turned cold, serious, as if he meant every word. He wanted to marry me? And he looked completely serious about it. “Are you being serious right now?” I asked, needing to hear it again, just to be sure. His gaze darkened. “I don’t say things I am not sure about,” he said, reaching for a glass of alcohol I hadn’t even noticed on the table beside him. He poured himself a drink, his movements calm. “I want to marry you. And I mean it.” “Why?” The shock was clear in my voice. I took a deep breath, trying to make sense of it. “Why would you want to marry me? We are practically strangers. It doesn’t make any sense.”“Because I can,” he said, his tone indifferent, almost lazy. “Besides, it feels good to take something that belongs to my brother. Think

Ava pov“What did you say?” I asked the old man, trying to process the words that came out of his mouth. What does he mean by "I need to be prepared for what's coming"? What exactly is coming that I need to get ready for?“You start work tomorrow, right? This place gets busy on weekends, so you need to eat and get your strength,” he said casually as he cleaned up the mess. “Eat your food quickly, then you can sleep in the room.”I nodded, trying to understand everything before finally smiling. I must have been overthinking. His words sounded reasonable enough.I sat down and quickly started eating the food in front of me, my stomach growling, clearly in need of it.“You done?” The man asked, coming over to check on me just a few minutes later. The look on his face showed he was surprised to see me finish so fast.“I was really hungry,” I muttered, and he nodded, giving me a smile.“That’s to be expected, especially for a woman in your condition,” he said, looking around before adding,

AVA POV I woke up with a throbbing headache, my vision blurry and struggling to adjust to the darkness. My body felt heavy, my mind sluggish, like I had been drugged. What the hell was going on? I let out a weak cough, trying to shake off the haze covering my thoughts. Then it hit me, hard and fast. The air reeked of something so vile it made my stomach turn. Raw blood. Rotting meat. I suddenly realized something that made me snap my eyes open. My senses sharpened, and my vision finally cleared. That smell wasn’t just bad, it was death itself. I suddenly panicked as I yanked at my arms, only to feel the painful bite of ropes digging into my skin. I was tied to a chair. My heart pounded in my ears as I twisted and pulled, but the rope wouldn’t budge. “What the hell is this?” I rasped, my voice shaking. “Where am I? Let me go!” An amused chuckle filled the room. “Oh… you are finally awake,” a deep voice murmured. I froze. The sound of a knife scraping against wood sen

AVA’S POV“You see, our tracker picked up her scent all the way here, even with all the rot and blood polluting the air,” a voice echoed down the stairs. A voice I knew.I stiffened.I could smell her. Hear her. Feel her.And I knew exactly what this meant, I was screwed. Not just the usual kind of trouble. No. This was the kind of trouble that swallowed you whole and spat out your bones.“I don’t usually let my clients back here," Enoch said. "Wouldn’t want the council sniffing around my little operation. But you, Madam Evelyn… you, I trust.”Yes…Evelyn..My senses hadn’t been wrong all along. My freaking stepmother was somehow here? How? Why?! This night had already been a horror show, but somehow, it had just taken the kind of turn that makes people wake up screaming.“I am not your client,” Evelyn said, her voice cutting through the filth in the air. “I don’t partake in the consumption of human flesh, and I certainly have no interest in whatever disgusting business you have runni

AVA'S POVWhat was that sound? What the hell was going on outside?Curiosity urged me to take a look, but fear held me back. I was frozen, unable to move. The whole situation was beyond terrifying. If I didn’t have even a little self-control, I probably would have pissed myself."You, go out there and stop whatever is causing trouble," the man beside me barked. At this point, I assumed he was their boss. The van door swung open, and they rushed out, ready to face whatever was waiting outside. But I knew, hell anyone with a brain knew that was a terrible idea. You don’t go up against a black wolf and expect to walk away alive."Please, just let me go. Let us get out of here before it—" I pleaded, but I barely got to complete my sentence. All I got in return was a harsh pull on my hair as the man growled."Shut up. Just shut the fuck up," he warned, shoving my head forward as he let go of my hair. I cried, curling into the corner of the vehicle, squeezing my eyes shut, and covering my e

And me? I am going to make a fortune selling you.”“Please, don’t touch my baby!” I screamed, struggling with the restraints, my voice filled with so much desperation. “Please! Don’t you dare lay a hand on me!”They didn’t answer. They just laughed. A cold wicked sound that made me feel nothing but fear. They were enjoying this. They are evil. I didn't exactly have an expectation for the reception I was going to get there.Just as I folded my hands in my lap, Iris intertwined our fingers.“You are too tense for someone who looks this beautiful," Iris said to me and I turned to look in his direction. My cheeks heated up at his compliment, and the feeling of my hand in his was something else."Thank you, but I can't help it. The last time I was here they were deciding my execution for a crime I didn't commit. I don't know what to expect now that we are returning as a couple," I said to Iris who nodded his head.“Fair enough, but you can't allow your nerves to get the best of you tonight. Remember to have fun while at it; I plan to,” Iris said to me, and I nodded my head. He suddenly leaned in."Do you recall that woman we saw on the sidewalk of the mall on our way out?" I know we need to make a statement but this is downright shameless," I said to Iris as I stared at my reflection in the mirror. The emerald green gown matched my green eyes. We were yet to go for makeup which I believe was absolutely unnecessary. Why was I bothering to look good for that bastard, Rob?Iris, on the other hand, rose to his feet and approached me. My breath suddenly got stuck in my throat as he once again stepped into my space.I was immediately assaulted by his scent.“Hmm, I believe this is just perfect for what I had in mind for tonight," Iris said as he walked around me, the way his eyes moved over my skin made me pant.“It has the right touch of everything to mak

Betty is having her bath, should I call her?" I said to him, my mind running rampant with various thoughts. When his eyes glued to my direction, I gulped.“There is no need for that. We are having dinner guests tomorrow, and I thought to inform you about it now so that I won't forget,” Alpha Rob said to me, and I braced myself against the door as relief made me weak in the knees."Thank you, Alpha. Might I ask who we will be dining with tomorrow?” I asked him. "My brother,” was all he said before he turned around and left. This place felt unreal."Go ahead, I'll keep you away from the toxic ones. I need you alive for the wedding,” Iris said to me and I turned to glare at him. "Whatever,” I said under my breath before continuing to peruse the view. The encounter earlier was leaving me with a warm feeling on the inside.“Keep your head on straight, don't lose your head to another man who hasn't proven his worth, even if he's richer than my former pack combined,” I said to myself in my head. Soon I was enveloped by the warmth of Iris. He was hugging me from behind.“Watch yourself, I still need my bride alive," Iris whispered in my ear. Lycan Iris’s POV:I watched Ava as she slept in my arms on our ride home. My beast was raging for blood but our mate didn't share the same sentiment.First off, she lied about the doctor's assessment and the doctor collided with her. Then she tries to cover up the antics at the workplace. It seems an audit was in order.“Sir, we have arrived,” my driver said in a low tone, mindful of my sleeping mate. I looked at her face which betrayed her exhaustion earlier and nodded at my driver.“Keep driving," I said to him, At about the third trip Ava stirred in my arms."Oh! I must have dozed off. Where are we?” Ava asked me as she looked through the tinted windows. This was an area of the estate that she was yet to visit.“We are somewhere on the property. Do you want to see?" I asked her, and she gave me an adorable look before nodding her head. The driver packed the car almost immediately and I got out of the car with Ava still in my hand. She was red in the face.“Please put me down. This

My mind replayed the painful experiences I have had in the past: my father's abusive behavior, his constant assault on my mother when I was little, my stepmother's evil heart, my step sister's wickedness, both of which are bent on seeing me dead, my husband's cheating lifestyle. And now, strangers who didn't even know me seemed determined to destroy me. Everything about her screamed power and money, the kind that didn’t just come from a fat bank account but from knowing you could make or break people with a single sentence. She tilted her head slightly, her brows knitting together. "You look familiar… have we met before?"My heart nearly stopped.Oh, crap. She remembers.I forced a small, polite shake of my head. "I don’t think so, ma’am.
