Ava's Pov

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, nor could I tell if the universe was playing a cruel trick on me at that moment.

I was pregnant? I asked myself just to be sure as I stared at the pregnancy test in my hands that clearly showcased double lines.

Three weeks had passed since that entire event. Robert had made sure to stay distant from me, avoiding me like the plague, while Betty hadn’t wasted any time in making my life a living hell.

I had been feeling a little off, a little sick. At first, I thought it was just the effect of the stress my unfortunate sister and vile mother had been putting me under, but then I realized it wasn’t that at all. Instead, I was pregnant!

Curiosity prompted me to take the test, and this is what I found out? How? Just how has this happened?

A knock on my door interrupted my thoughts, and I quickly scurried to hide the pregnancy test away. A maid walked in and said, “Madam Betty has requested your presence downstairs.” I nodded, understanding the situation, and rose to my feet, making my way downstairs while trying to wrap my head around everything.

I was really pregnant?

But for who? Could it be Rob's child, or was it from whoever I had mistakenly had a one-night stand with? It definitely couldn’t be Rob’s, as we hadn’t had sex in over three months. Then who was it? Who was that stranger?

As I walked down the stairs, I was dismayed to find my stepmother there. “I told you all she does is lazy around and do nothing, Mother! I’m the one carrying the child, but she has chosen to be useless!” Betty complained.

My mother turned to me and said, “Don’t you ever get tired of being useless around here? Your poor innocent sister is helping you and the pack by giving birth to an heir, a small duty you couldn't even fulfill, and now making breakfast is something you can't even begin to do?”

I didn’t want to hear any more of their cruel words. I bit my bottom lip, forcing a smile as I said, “I will make breakfast for her.”

My mother rolled her eyes and dismissed me with a wave of her hand while I walked to the kitchen to make breakfast, their voices echoing in the background as they commented on how useless I was at that moment.

I finished making breakfast and served it to them. The urge to spit in the food was overwhelming, but I decided not to be that petty at that moment.

“Took you long enough,” Betty said as she snatched the food from my hands. Just then, I spotted Rob making his way downstairs. We made eye contact for a brief second before he diverted his gaze to Betty and then back to me as he handed me some documents..

“Here is what you wanted…” he said. Everyone suddenly turned their attention to me in that moment as he said coldly, “You can sign it, and I will let you go.” He didn’t say another word to me, instead walking over to the dining table to settle in for breakfast.

I checked the document, and it was indeed our divorce settlement. I nodded, understanding the situation, biting my lower lip to keep the tears from escaping. “Thanks for this…” I said to him, but he refused to raise his head or make any kind of eye contact with me at that moment.

“It is about time..” Betty muttered as she and mother giggled looking at each other. “Too bad there will be no one to serve me breakfast.”

“Enough Betty!” Alpha Rob immediately cautioned. I saw the look of malice on her face immediately soften while she gave me one last glare before going back to her food.

I nodded again, realizing this was the end of everything, and immediately signed the divorce papers with the pen attached to them. After slamming the papers down on the dining table, I prepared to leave when suddenly I heard Betty coughing.

At first, it started as a normal cough, but it quickly escalated into something intense. “What’s wrong with you, Betty?” I heard my step mother’s panicked voice ask. Feeling curious, I turned around and saw Betty, blood streaming from her eyes and mouth, which shocked me.

I let out a scream and rushed toward her. Everything happened so fast; one minute we were arguing over breakfast, and the next, Betty was in the hospital, fighting for her life.

My mother paced back and forth while we all sat there, anxiously waiting for the doctor to update us on her condition. I could see the worried look on Rob's face, and I felt shamefully jealous at that moment. Eventually, the doctor emerged with news.

“Fortunately, the woman survived. She will be in the hospital for a while, but she survived despite the kind of poisoning she has unfortunately consumed.” My heart dropped as I heard the words. Poison? How the hell had Betty consumed poison?

“The baby, how is the baby?” Rob asked, his voice tight with anxiety. The look on the doctor’s face immediately changed to one of sorrow.

“Unfortunately, we lost the baby…” My mother let out a dramatic scream at the news while Rob looked stunned. “The amount of wolfsbane consumed was enough to kill anyone. It’s a miracle she is still alive, but we could not save the baby,” he said before walking away. My eyes widened in shock at the news. This absolutely cannot be happening.

The baby was really gone? Betty was poisoned? By who? Who could have done that?

Suddenly, my thoughts were interrupted when a sharp slap landed across my face, sending me spiraling to the ground. Tears welled up in my eyes as I clutched my face in disbelief. I saw my mother glaring down at me, her eyes filled with anger and hatred as she seethed.

“How could you have done this? You are evil! You were the last one to serve Betty her food; you poisoned her!” I was shocked by her accusations. I opened my mouth to defend myself, but quickly closed it, unsure of what to say.

“Mother, I…” I rose to my feet, fighting back the tears as I said, “I didn’t. I could never do that to my sister.” I looked at Rob as I said, “Robert, believe me, I didn’t… I couldn’t have…” I couldn’t say any more. The look on his face showed that even he didn’t believe me.

“Guards.” That was the only word that came out of his mouth as he ordered, “Take her away…”

Ava's PovSuddenly, my life felt like a movie. Everything was happening so fast that I barely had time to process it all. Lycan Iris? My one-night stand was now the father of the child I was carrying. What was going on? Was I stuck in some kind of dream with no way out? I couldn’t stop questioning myself. “Impossible!” Councilman John’s voice boomed across the room. “You can’t just show up here out of nowhere and make demands, Lycan Iris. This woman was responsible for killing the future heir of this pack. She has to be punished, and we cannot simply let you take her away.” I saw Lycan Iris’s eyes darken. His expression became so intimidating that it sent chills down my spine. Even Councilman John looked uncomfortable. From his face, I could tell he was shaken by the look Lycan Iris had just given him. “Remember years ago,” Lycan began, his voice steady, “when I stepped down from the alpha position for my brother? I believe I stood in this very council room then…” He took a st

My thoughts were a mess. “T… that night... you took advantage of me when I was vulnerable, didn’t you? You just decided to have your way with me,” I said, my voice trembling. He let out a low chuckle, his hand slowly reaching for my hair. Gently, he tucked it behind my ear. "I’m not the type to take advantage," he murmured, his voi

Iris or rather, Lycan Iris didn’t seem fazed. His expression had turned cold, serious, as if he meant every word. He wanted to marry me? And he looked completely serious about it. “Are you being serious right now?” I asked, needing to hear it again, just to be sure. His gaze darkened. “I don’t say things I am not sure about,” he said, reaching for a glass of alcohol I hadn’t even noticed on the table beside him. He poured himself a drink, his movements calm. “I want to marry you. And I mean it.” “Why?” The shock was clear in my voice. I took a deep breath, trying to make sense of it. “Why would you want to marry me? We are practically strangers. It doesn’t make any sense.”“Because I can,” he said, his tone indifferent, almost lazy. “Besides, it feels good to take something that belongs to my brother. Think
