I looked around the garden, every pack member from the moonlight pack owned and headed by Alpha Zane were present. The guards that Kane had sent to escort me were already gone. of course, they threatened and promised to harm Fiona if I didn't do their Alpha's selfish bidding. I palmed my forehead in tiredness and in disgust. How couldn't they see how selfish, cruel and unfair their Alpha was. I guess people see the good in the bad and the bad in the good. I looked towards the garden and a man was given a speech, something about their next list of events that would take place. I tried to listen, but It was just too boring, something about

  "Traditional Wolf Activities"

Under the traditional wolf activities, he went on to list

" Howling Concerts, Moonlit Hunts, Lunar Rituals."

When he was done mentioning it, they all screamed out in excitement.

  Then he continued

  "Magical and Mystical:

Shape-Shifting Ceremonies, Moonlit Vision Quests , Lunar Energy Harvesting:

  *Celebratory and Social:*

Full Moon Feasts, Moonlit Games, Pack Bonding Rituals.

  *Spiritual and Commemorative:*

Ancestor Honoring, Moonlit Storytelling, Lunar Renewal Ceremonies. "

I had no idea why I stuck around to listen, when none of what he just listed interested me. They were pretty interesting events, which would have interested me on a normal day, but not today. I've got a lot on my mind, I have to deceive an innocent Alpha, well not so innocent though.

I grabbed my clutches, which allowed me move without an hitch and left the garden. I was new to the environment, so I had no idea where I was going. I came to a still, trying to decide where to go when someone bumped into me. It was sudden and unexpected. I fell back, shutting my eyes closed, awaiting the impact. I felt an arm wrap around my waist, stopping me from falling.

"I'm so sorry." The person apologized. I opened my eyes to see a guy standing in front of me . He looked young and handsome. Should be around my age.

"It's fine." I mutter, my eyes not leaving him. Please don't tell me my stupid heart is falling for him.

  "I'm sorry, again." He said.

His voice is extremely soothing, exactly what I need right now.

"It's fine, really." I chuckled, looking down on my feet.

He was returning the stare and making me uncomfortable.

"Although you should consider slowing down, to avoid getting in trouble." I said.

He nodded, sighing, while tucking his hands in his pocket. "Since I only take advice from pretty ladies, I'll take yours." He said.

I can't stop myself from chuckling. "That's funny. I'm not that pretty." I muttered, looking in the direction of the garden. The activity was still going on, and they were currently cheering in  excitement.

"Why is it always the pretty ones that are insecure." He asked and I shrugged. "I'm not insecure, I'm just telling you the plain truth." I replied and he made this humming sound with his mouth. When he stopped, a part of me wanted him to continue.

"Want to go over and see what they are up to?" He asked after a minute of silence.

"Huh?" I asked, looking back at him.

"You keep looking in that direction, why don't you go over." He said.

I had no idea my focus was still on the festival going on. "Nah, I'm not really from around here." I answered.

I wasn't interested in their festival, so why was I being drawn to it?

"That's fine, here at moonlight pack, we welcome everyone." He shrugged and before I can reply, he was carrying me towards the garden, where the festival is being held.

We got there and everyone gasps in shock on seeing us. The guy immediately clears his throat and they immediately compose. That little action doesn't miss my notice and I can't help but wonder who he was to get that kind of reaction from them.

He sets me down and immediately, people shift, making space for me to sit.

I mutter a few thanks which they accept wholeheartedly to my surprise.

The festival goes on and I end up performing. It wasn't my intention, but when you get dragged on to the stage by a friend you just met, you have no choice than to comply.

I got back to my seat after a display of my dancing skills, I'm exhausted, but also happy.

"You did good." The guy from earlier muttered in my ears, sending tingling sensations down my spine.

I cleared my throat awkwardly, looking around and as usual eyes are on us. "Thank you." I mutter.

The activity continues deep into the night and when it's done, I was  pretty much exhausted.

I looked around, and he was gone, just like that. No goodbye? I felt disappointed as I get on my feet and left the scene.

I was  walking carefully, to avoid tripping on something, when a shadow double crossed me.

"They gave you a mission to spy on someone and the first thing you do is go party?" The shadow asked in a deep angry tone, I roll my eyes, knowing it's Kane's lackeys.

"You don't expect me to show up at his bedroom, do you?" I asked back in a sarcastic tone.

"Kane said to blend in, get his trust and finish him off. I'm going to use every method I can think off to do that, little moves are recognized." I said.

"You do that, you just do that, remember what is at stake here and I'm sure you won't want any harm to come to her." The figure says, pointing at me, before disappearing into the night.

I groaned, setting my crutches aside and sitting on the grass. Times like this make me hate my life.

I sat in that spot for a while, when I remembered I didn't have a place to sleep, I couldn't bring myself to stand up.

"Hey, there you are." Someone says from behind me and I turn to look. It's one of the girls I sat with.

  "Here I am." I muttered.

"I and the other girls are going to bed. Would you like to join us?" She asked, coming to stand in front of me. I stared at her, trying to guess her reasons for making such an offer. I guess when you have no choice, you have no reason to object.

  "Alright." I agreed, standing up.

“Aren't you going to deny it?” His voice came again, he was expecting me to deny it claiming I am one of his pack members but I knew better than to say that and do as he says. “You are right, Alpha Zane,” I said, without stuttering. He smirked annoyingly, getting pissed off by my appearance. He must have expected me to keep the lie up so then it could be clear to him without anything hidden that I was in the pack for something, something which to him could only mean destruction. “I do not belong to the pack” I added, confessing to the truth that I don't know whether it would take my life right away or would make something worse happen to me. Whichever it is Alpha Zane decides to do with me, I'm sure I won't get defeated easily. Else Gina would be disappointed in me, She had always had high hopes for me. I really wanted to tell him; that I am Leona Kazan!, The rejected mate of Alpha Kane. And it was all thanks to him. But I said none of that even when the urge to say it was so strong, I remained quiet. Not because I was scared of him. What do I have to be scared of? I'm already lame, and disabled, and I have nothing to lose, life for me ended years ago; when I lost my legs and my sister Gina. Alpha Zane kept staring at me, or should I say glaring. Someone who was said to have people cowering at his feet whenever he looked at them. Was this the look they were talking about, it's not as scary as they pointed it to be. But I still needed to play the pitiful card. I sighed, how I hated pretending. We kept on staring at each other, neither of us looking away. "Should I get the Royal guard here?" He asked again, this time in a more calm but dangerous tone. "Would you hurt a disabled girl?" I held my chest, feigning hurt. "You would proceed to hurt a lame, harmless young gi

I had breakfast at the motel with the little I had on me, I had come here unprepared as everything happened like a disaster. I had no time to prepare for using funds like this so I had only brought my little savings with me. The cruel man who had sent me here wasn't providing me any help or any resources but all he was doing was having men spy on me which I knew they were doing right now as I remembered Adrian's words. “We will be watching your every move” After eating the breakfast I had managed to afford, despite having very little money with me, I reminded myself that I was saving the rest for finding a house. Shelter always comes first.I left the motel feeling grateful to the woman who had taken me in. I sat on the veranda of the palace, my thoughts racing back to Alpha Zane’s dismissal. The memory replayed vividly ,his cold gaze, his sharp tone and I couldn’t shake the sting of humiliation. What had gone wrong? Why had he reacted that way?My mind wandered to the questions he’d asked me earlier. Simple, straightforward questions about my past, my purpose. Questions I should have been prepared to answer. Yet, in that moment, my tongue had betrayed me, leaving me flustered.“Dammit, I messed up,” I muttered, clenching my fists tightly. My frustration burned in my chest. How could I hope to approach Alpha Zane again, knowing his anger still lingered?I exhaled heavily, forcing myself to think. Time was slipping through my fingers, and every mistake pushed me further away from my goal. I needed a new plan—something to redeem myself and earn another chance to speak with him. With determination, I stood from the bench and headed inside the palace. My steps were quick, purposeful. Natalie’s POVI froze at the sight of them together. I knew they weren’t kissing, but it certainly looked like it. Alpha Zane wouldn’t kiss anyone so randomly—especially not a maid like her.But the way he leaned in, staring at her so intently, made my blood boil. I clenched my fists, furious. That bitch was clearly trying to get his attention, and now it seemed like Alpha Zane was giving it to her.And then she lost her balance—only for him to catch her. By the waist. My eyes widened in pure rage at the sight of his hands on her, holding her like that. But I forced myself to suppress my anger, unwilling to show any signs of discomfort while Alpha Zane was still here.I shot a glare at the girl, whose waist was still wrapped in his strong, masculine hands. To my satisfaction, my glare seemed to work—she quickly scampered out of his grasp, and he let her go without hesitation. He began walking away from her but stopped suddenly.“Tread carefully,” he said, his voice laced with mockery.

I stared at him as he came closer taking gentle strides towards me. It made my heart skip. I knew he was suspicious of me and that was exactly why he was waiting for me to come find him here. To confirm whether I was worthy of being kept around or not. Of course, I wasn't worthy of being around him, because I would bring him pain sooner or later as my only aim is to ruin him which I would surely do. These thoughts ran through my head as he stared at me amused. I then realized why his gaze was fixed on me, it was because of the glare I had sting into him. A glare that shows the aura of someone who wants revenge, of someone tired of hiding behind a damn mai

They’d clearly all started their duties for the day.Reaching for my crutches beside the bed, I steadied myself and made my way to the window. From there, I gazed out at the park, my thoughts drifting to the mission that had brought me here. Two weeks had passed since I began working at the palace, yet I hadn’t made any progress. The thought weighed heavily on me.“How am I supposed to accomplish anything when I haven’t even seen Alpha Zane?” I muttered under my breath.Being here wasn’t easy, especially with my disability. The others dismissed me, their disdain thinly veiled, but I’d learned not to let it bother me. I pushed through each day, trying to find a way to cross paths with Alpha Zane. So far, every attempt had failed.Letting out a weary sigh, I got undressed and made my way to the bathroom. After a quick bath, I dres

I had no idea my sigh was that loud.“Is everything okay, Leona?” The deep, smooth voice of Alpha Zane reached me, and the way he said my name sent a tingling sensation down my spine.
