Chapter 158: Fire

"Again." The order came.

With an exhausted puff, I tried to think of a fire again. I tried to imagine the flames roaring, the colours changing, the heat of it. The unmistakable crackling of fire filled my head.

I might have been better at it if not for the icy stare of a demon king piercing through me.

I opened my hands as instructed and tried to generate heat at my fingertips.

"You're not focusing. Concentrate." Burta barked.

"Maybe because you're distracting me." I snapped back.

Lately, I'd been a ray of sunshine. Between brutal fight training and early elemental sessions with Burta, I had little reason to smile. Sam had decided that I should be given training to control my fire next to my abusive training from Nija, as he saw no progress with my fire in combat.

He watched every minute of every single training. His presence grated on my nerves more each day.
