Five

Klaus POV.

“I'm sorry but I can't let you through.” Another guard said. “We can't let dogs like you run free here.”

If they called us dogs one more time, I'll have their heads off their bloody necks and hang them on the spear they held.

A scent that has become so familiar waffled through me, calming my anger. She walked into the hall with a dozen women trailing after her.

“You are not supposed to be here Davina. Your father doesn't want us near these dogs.” The older woman beside her said to Davina.

I watched Davina suck in a breath and turned to her angrily. “How can you all be so heartless? My father's commands already show that he wants peace. As his daughter, I-”

Her words got stuck in her throat and I watched her face pale, a gunshot pierced through air and I turned sharply. Nicholas held a gun to the head of the guards that stopped us from getting out.

A smirk curled on my lips.

The women screeched and sped out of the hall, but she remained still. Her eyes widened in shock.

“Alpha, the exit doors are all blocked with guards.” Dean, one of my scouts reported.

“How many of them ?”

“Fifteen guards at each door alpha.” Dean informed me.

There was no way I was risking the life of my men, today. On a normal day, we could be ready for battle on a full scale. Nathaniel had one of us captured, and I am quite certain that would be a leverage against us.

If only…

“Nicholas…” My mate called my name, her tone judgemental. “What are you doing?”

I stalked closer to her, holding her shoulders firmly yet calmly with both of my hands. “I promise you we don't want trouble, but your father has been pushing us to the extreme, time after time.”

She considered my words, a shimmer of understanding sparkled in her eyes. “I'd that guy really sick or it was just a pretense to get out of here.”

I pulled my hands away sharply, remembering the poison. If not for Nicholas' warning, we could have been dead on the floor right now. Something far worse than just a show of pretense.

“The food you served.” I paused, considering her emotions. I couldn't get too soft, this might even be part of their plan. “It was poisoned.”

“Poisoned?” She stumbled backwards, confusion etched on her face. “What poison? I watched them prepare and serve it.”

I frowned. “You didn't know? You're telling me that you didn't know your father planned to kill us by infusing wolfsbane in our food?”

“No! I swear, I don't know.” She whispered, shaking her head furiously. How bad I wanted to reach out to her and comfort her. But for some reasons, I believed her. If she said she didn't know, she truly didn't.

“It's fine.” I caressed her cheek, relief washing through her.

“Why were you looking at me back there?” She asked.

Smiling, I said; “Do I look familiar to you? Or you have this longing to be by my side and always have my attention, like you were doing back there?’

Her face turned a bright shade of red. She nodded and a spark of electricity flooded through me at her admission. I wanted to take her right here and mark her as mine, but I need to get my men out of here first.

And with the plan I had, I would be having Davina by my side longer than I imagined.

“Is there a way out without guards hoisting at the door?”

She considered a bit before nodding.

“Follow me.” I ordered my men with a wave of my hand and they trailed after us. Grabbing Davina by her hands, I increased the pace as she gave us directions.

I knew by now Nathaniel would have known about our escape and litters of guards would literally be everywhere, ready to shoot. But I bet if he saw his daughter, he wouldn't.

“Let me go, I have led you to the door.” She struggled against my hold, but I held her firmly.

“I won't let you go, mate.” My velvety murmur floated between us. I picked her up from her waist carrying her against my chest.

“Break the door!”

Nicholas charged forward, ripping the door off its hinges.

I walked forward into the open air, Davina firmly against my chest. As I already suspected, about forty armed guards were littered around the courtyard. Armed to the teeth.

Davina stilled in my arms, upon realizing what was going on.

“You are holding me hostage to get to my father?”

“No Davina. I would never do that, but I just want to get out of here safely and get my cousin back.” I said truthfully.

“Don't you dare take a shoot!” Nathaniel's voice boomed. I let go of Davina, but still held her tightly.

“What did you do, Father?” She asked to my surprise. It only meant my little mate wasn't aware of her father's plans. While Nathaniel and I exchanged glares, my men moved towards our cars, getting in.

“Let my daughter go, I'll give you anything you want.” Nathaniel.sad unbelievably.

A dark chuckle escaped me. “You think I'll believe you again Nathaniel? You poisoned our food with the only thing that can kill us . And you want me to let her go? I am not doing that.”

“Remember we have Cole with us.”

“And remember, I have your daughter with me. He dies, and she dies.”

Davina gasped beside me, fidgeting with fear.

“Bastards!” Nathaniel growled. “I should have killed you on the spot the moment you stepped your cursed foot on my land.”

“Mind your words Nathaniel.” I urged sarcastically. “Let us leave, alive and young daughter stays alive too.”

I didn't tell him I'll be releasing Davina after. She was my mate, and I would keep her with me. Far away from her father.
