Chapter 27

last update Last Updated: 2024-11-14 19:50:20
I woke with a sharp, throbbing pain in my abdomen, blinking against the early morning light. The unfamiliar surroundings hit me first: Leonardo’s room. My mind scrambled to piece together how I got here, until memories from last night drifted back—dinner, a movie, and eventually falling asleep here. But then the pain struck again, harder this time, and I felt a sticky warmth beneath me.

My stomach dropped. Glancing down, I saw the faint, unmistakable stain of blood on Leonardo’s pure, white Gucci bedspread.

Panic surged through me. scrambling out of bed and glancing around. He wasn’t in the room, thank God. But I had no sanitary pads, no relief for the cramps, and now his sheets were stained. The situation couldn’t be worse.

Just then, I heard familiar footsteps approaching. Heart pounding, I darted into the bathroom and turned on the shower, the faucet, even the bathtub, hoping to drown out any sound.

“Kimberly?” Leonardo’s voice came through the door, startling me.

“Go away,” I said,

Kimberly POV It took hours to convince Leonardo I was feeling better before he finally left for his meeting. I’m one of the lucky ones who only get four-day periods, so I’m back to normal, more or less.“You sure you’ll be fine on your own?” he asked, pausing by the door.“Yes, I’ll be fine…” I rolled my eyes as I walked toward the bedroom. We’d be flying back to Spain in a day, and I couldn’t help but reflect on how strange things had become between us here. How did we even get to this point? I didn’t know, but just the thought brought a small smile to my face.As I folded my clothes—taking my time as Helen isn't here—I noticed a pack of dark chocolate Leonardo had gotten for me yesterday. I reached for it, planning to munch on it as I packed, but as my fingers touched it, I saw a reflection in the mirror.A masked figure behind me.I froze. My hand hovered pressed down on the chocolate, a chill running through me as my mind raced. Leonardo…?” I whispered, barely breathing. The fig

Kimberly POV I woke up on the cold, hard floor, my skin prickling with the room’s damp chill. The darkness was thick, swallowing everything around me, and the air smelled faintly of rust and mold. It was the kind of darkness that made memories creep in—the kind that reminded me of my first abduction, the terror that had taken root and never left.I tried to move, but a sharp pain in my wrists stopped me. A cold, metallic restraint cut into my skin, chaining my arms to something behind me. Every shift pulled at my shoulders, making them ache. The sting of metal biting into my flesh would surely leave a scar, another reminder of this nightmare. My breathing grew shallow as panic clawed its way to the surface, but I forced it back down. Not now. Not yet. "Is… anyone there?" I whispered, my voice barely audible in the silence. I sensed a presence lurking in the shadows, something close to the walls but hidden in the gloom.Silence.Just as I was beginning to think I was alone, a low fluo

Kimberly POV The room’s shadows crept closer, pressing in with the weight of stale, stagnant air. I squinted at the figure on the screen as Treo adjusted the phone on its tripod, its dull glow illuminating a face half-hidden in shadow. Something about him tugged at my memory, but I couldn't really fathom it.“Hello, pretty friend of mine.” His voice slithered through the silence.A sick recognition sank in my chest. I wasn’t chained this time, but that didn’t make me feel any freer. I swallowed hard, praying I was wrong. “Salvatore?” My voice was barely more than a whisper.“Smart. Kimberly” His grin widened, cold and calculating. The casual way he said my name made my skin crawl.“You bastard!” I shot forward, reaching for the phone as if I could somehow claw him from the screen. Treo’s hand grabbed my arm and threw me back so hard I hit the floor, the impact causing me pain. Salvatore’s laughter echoed, rich with mockery, drowning the room in its sound.I sucked in a breath, anger a

(Leonardo pov)The receptionist flashed me a wide smile as she gestured toward the hall leading to his office. I didn’t return it. The walls of this place, once familiar, now felt suffocating. It wasn’t the building—it was him. I didn’t knock. The door creaked open, and there he was—Colton Fiore, better known as *Supremo.* A newspaper in his hands, glasses perched on his nose, his expression unreadable as always. “You finally see it fit to visit me,” he said, not looking up. “Kimberly has been abducted,” I said, skipping the pleasantries. He didn’t flinch. Instead, he folded the newspaper carefully, resting it on the desk. When he finally looked at me, it was with the same calm precision he used to dismantle his enemies. “Sit down, Leonardo,” he said, as though we were discussing something as trivial as the weather.“Supremo, there’s no time—” “Sit.” The weight of that single word crushed any argument I had. Reluctantly, I sank into the chair opposite him. He studied me

Leonardo pov Getting the territory permanently seemed so close, almost within my grasp—until now. The insistent buzz of my phone shattered my thoughts. I’ve been ignoring business-related calls lately, focusing solely on finding Kimberly. Yet, when I glanced at the screen, the unfamiliar number gave me pause. My brows furrowed. It could only be Marcus or the other bastard. I answered. “Nardo, I never thought our next conversation would happen so soon,” came the voice, too casual for the situation. “Salvatore,” I growled, my voice low and dangerous. “Where the hell is Kimberly?” He laughed, a grating, mocking sound. “You took everything from me, Leonardo, and you think I’d let you live in peace?” His tone shifted, laced with malice. “Of course not, dear Nardo. I’ll take everyone who matters to you and ensure your precious Grece territory becomes utterly worthless.” “Get to the point,” I snapped. “What do you want? Let Kimberly go, and we’ll settle this.” Salvatore c

Leonardo pov "I tried to find a hint in the video, and here..." The tech bro's voice broke through the static hum in the room, drawing my attention to the monitor. He pointed at the screen. "There’s a reflection of neon lights."I leaned in, squinting at the faint glow. The lights were blurry, barely distinguishable against the shadows."This is useless," Mario groaned, pacing behind me. "Neon lights are everywhere.""No, not this time," I said, my voice sharp. My mind raced, connecting the dots. "This is spring—neon light production slows down during this season. It’s expensive to maintain, so only people who already have it would use it.""Which means what?" Mario asked, crossing his arms."Salvatore and Marcus wouldn’t bother setting up neon lights just to record this video," I replied. "If there’s neon light in the room, someone nearby owns it."The tech bro hesitated. "But neon lights aren’t exactly rare—""They are when it comes to private ownership," I cut in, dragging a chair

Kimberly POV The crusty, dry bread lay on the floor in front of me, its stale scent wafting up and twisting my empty stomach. My body ached, but my pride burned hotter. There was no way I’d stoop so low to eating something this disgusting. Marcus strolled in, his sharp eyes zeroing in on the untouched bread. “Why aren’t you eating, baby girl?” His voice was calm, but there was venom beneath it. I didn’t answer. He tilted his head, smirking. “What’s wrong? Has Leonardo been feeding you something better than what your father ever could?” My fists clenched, but I kept my face blank, letting my thoughts drift. Once upon a time, To be honest, this bread would have been a nice meal for me and my dad. But since I got in with Leonardo I only ate rich foods. Butter bread. Now, the memory of enjoying something so plain felt foreign I turned my head away, refusing to meet Marcus’s gaze. His footsteps closed the distance between us. “You know,” he began, his voice softer, “you’re beau

The sound of gunfire echoed endlessly, a grim reminder that this nightmare was far from over. I tried contacting Enzo and Mario, but neither line was connecting. Salvatore’s men were dwindling in numbers, but reinforcements seemed to appear from nowhere, emerging like shadows. “Your last wish, Salvatore?” I asked, my voice sharp as I cornered him. “To hell with you,” he spat, fear and anger flickering in his eyes like a dying flame. “Are you sure that’s how you want to end it?” I tilted my head, cocking my gun. “After all, what have you done with your miserable life?” He moved suddenly, his hand darting toward his pocket. My finger tightened on the trigger, and I fired before he could pull anything out. But either I was too slow, or the force of the bullet knocked something loose. A small metallic ball rolled from his hand and clattered to the floor. My instincts screamed, but it was too late—a deafening explosion ripped through the air, and a thick, choking cloud envel

Kimberly POV "What do you mean you work for him?" My voice trembled as I spoke, my body already shaking.Ian's lips parted as if to explain, but I didn't let him."What the hell!" I screamed, unable to hold it in any longer. My chest heaved as I turned to him, disbelief crashing over me. "You've been working for Leonardo all this time?" The words tasted bitter in my mouth. "How? You've been in college, right?""Sis…""No! Don't call me that, Lan! Answer me!" I shoved his broad shoulder, but he barely moved. My hands curled into fists. "You can't be serious."This had to be a prank. A cruel, ridiculous joke. Ian wouldn’t, he couldn’t, have been a part of Leonardo’s world all this time."If this is a joke, stop it now." My voice wavered as I searched his face for any sign of teasing. But the man seated beside me stayed quiet, saying nothing and not ready to say anything either. The car came to a halt, and I could hardly wait for the engine to die before storming into the mansion.I met

“Where’s Monica, Leo?” I asked the moment he finished changing Arianna’s diaper that morning.Speaking of diapers, Leo was becoming more like a mum when it comes to that. His hands moved with practiced ease, yet I noticed a slight tremor as he lifted her from the changing table. He carried her to the crib, rocking her gently until her eyes fluttered closed. Then, with a quiet sigh, he turned to sit beside me.“Since Arianna’s birth… I haven’t wanted to stain my hands with blood. At least, not now,” he murmured, rubbing his palms together.I sat up, my curiosity piqued. “What do you mean?”His jaw tensed slightly before he answered. “I sent her to the family's mine in East Africa.”I blinked. “East Africa?” My heart skipped a beat. “Leo, that’s no different from a death sentence.”“I didn’t kill her,” he said, his voice firmer now.“You could have just arrested her, or…”“Kimberly.” His tone darkened. “You know the world we live in. There’s no real justice here. If I let her go, she’d

Leonardo POV.Kimberly soon drifted into sleep, her breathing soft and even. I watched in silence, the gentle rise and fall of her chest anchoring me to the present. A few hours ago, everything had changed, yet I was still struggling to process it.The door swung open, and I turned, only to have the shock of my life.Emily stood there, beaming, cradling a tiny bundle in her arms."Emily?" My voice barely escaped my lips, as if I needed confirmation that my eyes weren’t deceiving me."Yes, brother," she replied, stepping inside and shutting the door."I woke up a few hours ago just to hear Kimberly was in labor," she explained, her expression brimming with excitement.I ran a hand down my face, overwhelmed. "I've never been a religious person," I murmured, voice thick with emotion. "But these past hours… they make me want to believe in miracles."I buried my head in my hands, still reeling. A daughter. I had a daughter."Leonardo," Emily’s voice softened. "You should hold her."I hesi

Leonardo POV Ignoring Monica, I rushed towards the door without waiting for my father or Mario. If there's anything I want right now, it’s to be by Kimberly’s side during her childbirth.I didn’t even look back as I made my way to the parking lot, heart racing. My Range Rover was waiting for me.“Leonardo, I think I should drive,” Mario called out, just as I slid into the driver's seat.I shot him a sharp look, my patience getting thin. “Get the fuck in the car, Mario,” I snarled, signaling for my father to get in too.The drive from here to the hospital should’ve taken thirty minutes, but with the traffic, it felt like an eternity. Every moment stretched, dragging on in a haze of red lights and impatient honks.“Wait for me, baby,” I whispered, the words barely leaving my lips as I weaved between cars and trucks that seemed to take up every inch of the road. The light turned red just as I neared the intersection, and I swerved to avoid slamming into a truck, my heart racing."Holy

Leonardo POV Breaking In"Monica!" I shouted, kicking open the apartment door.Inside, a family huddled together in fear, their eyes wide as if they thought their home was being raided."Lower your weapons," I ordered, raising a hand. My men obeyed immediately, but the tension in the room didn’t ease.I turned to the oldest-looking man. "Who are you?""I..." he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper."Why are you here?" I barked, my patience razor-thin.The man swallowed hard. "We bought this house yesterday. Moved in this morning."Shit.Without another word, I stormed out, my mind a whirlwind of fury.Monica had fooled me, again. Not once, not twice, but three damn times. And I, Leonardo, the Mafia Don, had let it happen. Not anymore.Enzo’s voice from last night echoed in my head:"Monica colluded with the doctors handling Madam Emily. She paid them to poison her slowly, weakening her bones and cells."I clenched my fists, seething. "Find her, Enzo. She must not escape."As I

Leonardo pov "Lock down the entire hospital!" My voice rang out, sharp and commanding. The insane nurse had escaped after hitting Kimberly, and I couldn't chase her, not when Kimberly was in so much pain.I wasted no time. I gathered her into my arms and rushed out, calling for an ambulance. She wouldn’t be staying in this damn hospital. Not after this.I dialed Mario. "Send Emily over here."There was a sharp inhale on the other end. "What? What did you find?"I had no answers, only suspicions. My mind was racing, and at this point, no one was above suspicion. My mind was on everyone—there was nobody to be trusted at this moment."Monica?" Mario asked.I shot him a look, not to disagree but to let him know I had my eyes on her now."I've already arrested the doctors responsible for Emily’s care," he added."They’ll give us answers," I muttered coldly. "Or they’ll rot in prison."A nurse appeared at the entrance. "Mr. Fiore, the doctor would like to see you." She bowed her head and l

Kimberly POVIt was unusual to see Leonardo watching the news. He rarely paid attention to media reports, so when I found him focused on the BBC Channel, I instinctively turned to look at the screen. That was when I saw it.My breath caught in my throat. The image on the television showed Sherry being escorted through the International Airport in handcuffs, flanked by two officers. The headline beneath her face sent a jolt through my system.“BUSINESS WOMAN SHERRY ARRESTED FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING.”I shook my head. No, that couldn’t be right."But Sherry doesn’t do drugs," I muttered, half to myself.Leonardo barely spared me a glance before turning back to the screen, his expression unreadable.I swallowed hard, my mind racing. "Wait…" My voice was hesitant, but I forced

“You can’t be serious, are you?” I asked, my voice shaking, more from the frustration than the fear I’d let slip through.“I mean every word,” Leonardo replied, his tone calm, almost dismissive. “You wouldn’t want to have a baby without her father around, right?”I stood my ground, gripping the edge of the table as my frustration surged. “Don’t try to coax me into anything, Leo!” I shot back, my voice steady but fierce.“My baby has a mother who loves her enough. That’s enough. It’s more than enough,” I said, though the words felt hollow, like a shield I could barely lift.I heard Leonardo exhale slowly, but he remained silent. The weight of his quiet settled on me. When I saw he wasn’t going to respond, I pushed my chair back to leave.“I’ll be going now,” I muttered, reaching for the napkin to wipe my mouth, trying to keep my hands steady. But then, his voice stopped me in my tracks. “How are you going to handle Sherry and her daughter?”I froze. “You know them?” I asked, my surpris

Hope you slept well?”“Yes, I did,” I replied automatically, even though we both knew that wasn’t true. No one in this house had truly slept well last night. But it wouldn't hurt to pretend everything is fine.“I’m going for my antenatal appointment today,” I announced as I reached for the jar of Nutella. “And I want to do a scan for the gender reveal.”“That’s so thoughtful of you, darling,” Nancy said, setting down her fork. “But can’t you do it tomorrow instead?”I frowned. “Why? Is something wrong with today?”“Actually…” she hesitated, “I’d love to go with you. A gender reveal is a big deal. But my schedule is packed today.”I sighed.“We could go together early tomorrow morning,” she added with a
