HOW IT ALL STARTED EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO18 years ago, Mr Blackwood was seen in his office going through some documents as David knocked and came in.“Have you been able to find a suitable option?” Mr Blackwood asked.“Yes sir, it’s an orphanage run by a friend of mine….he can be quite difficult but I believe we would be able to make him an interesting offer” David said. “What about the artist? We need an artist to host the art exhibition, an exhibition is the only way we can use to pretend to care and support the orphanage” Mr Blackwood said.“I am still working on getting the right artist sir” David said.“How is your wife by the way?” Mr Blackwood asked.“She is doing fine sir” David said.“Okay….that will be all” Mr Blackwood said and went back to what he was doing. David drove all the way down to the orphanage to meet with his friend who was the director of the orphanage as at that time. David returns to Mr Blackwood’s residence and informs him of the new update.“I have finally been able to speak to the said artist sir” David said.“What did he say” Mr Blackwood asked.“Actually sir, they are a couple. The director recommended them as they quite good artists and have a good reputation” David said.“A couple?” Mr Blackwood asked.“Yes sir” David said.“Well, having them handle the art exhibition should not be a problem” Mr Blackwood said.“Not at all, I explained everything to them. I just need to get a list of what they would need for the success of it” David said.“When we have succeeded with the art exhibition, put the next plan in motion” Mr Blackwood ordered.“Yes sir” David said and still remained.“Is there anything you want to say?” Mr Blackwood asked.“Yes, yes sir…. I wanted to ask how the sample test is coming up” David said.“Why do you think I am in a haste to find kids for the testing?” Mr Blackwood asked.“I’m sorry sir, it was a silly question to ask.
Mr Blackwood had a scheduled meeting with the major investors of this new product he was making in his residence where Julian lived in the present as they all sat down “What is holding the sample test?” the first investor asked.“Yes, we have put in so much money and we are yet to see anything for it,” the third investor said. “I sincerely apologize for the delay we have faced in the course of the sample testing, I am heavily working on that,” Mr Blackwood said.“And what exactly is causing this delay?” the first investor asked.“Finding the right test subjects for the sample testing” Mr Blackwood said.“Can’t you get volunteers and tell them it’s clinical trials and then pay them afterwards?” the second investor said.“That would have been a plausible outcome but being that the said products is a high level kind of product, we wouldn’t want one of the volunteers ratting us out or going against the agreement by taking things out of hand” Mr Blackwood said.“I agree” the first invest
I pushed open the brown wooden door and stepped into my studio, a sense of excitement rushed all over my body as I was eager to start work on the next painting. I shut the door right after me with my left hand while holding a cup of coffee on my right. Setting the cup of my coffee down on the table filled with different sketches of paintings, paint brushes, and some disorganized books about painting, I reached out my handbag and hung it on the bag holder by the wall. A number of finished paintings lay on the wall by the floor and a couple more hung on the wall. A few were finished, a few unfinished and a few were client's orders to be picked up. I always made my paintings from scratch and my mind and never copied anyone’s work no matter the amount a client was willing to pay. I pulled off my trench coat, leaving my black shirt and a pair of deep blue jeans on a pair of boots on and pulled a stool closer to an empty canvas I had already set and sat. I took a sip of the coffee and pi
I sat there with a paint brush in my hand, my eyes staring blankly at the white canvas in front of me.I have always found solace in the quietness my studio exuded, the different smell of oil and paint- it was my own sanctuary and I loved being in it. But today, I wasn’t in my sanctuary, there was no familiar scent and warmth in this room. The room I was in had dim lights and gave off a cold aura as it also had meager interior decoration. I could feel the weight of Julian’s sharp gaze over my shoulders, being calculative from across the room.“60 days, nothing less, nothing more,” he suddenly said in a low growl thus breaking the silence. Julian Blackwood came off as a man who commands attention the moment he steps into the room. Tall, a lean muscular build, jet black curly shoulder-length hair and his aura gave off some sort of quiet but dangerous confidence. I could feel my heart thumping but I quickly squeezed my eyes shut hoping that would suppress the rising panic within me.
The room became awfully quiet after Julian left. Sixty days, I had sixty days to replicate a painting I barely remembered and also not figuring out why Julian wanted me to do so but I knew there was something more to this task. I stood from my stool, paced the room for a while and coming back to the spot I stood from, I stared at the canvas again as though that would tell me the true reason why I was here. I was still fixated on the canvas when I heard a footstep approach the door. The door creaked open and I made a swift turn to the door to see who it was.It wasn't Julian.A young girl of about eighteen years of age entered, dressed in a plain black dress. She had her face down and clenched to the tray of food she had brought in as she closed the door. “Julian said you should eat,” she said in a low voice.“Is she a staff or his woman? No, I'm sure Julian wouldn't let his woman do such basic chore and plus she seems pretty young to be here in the first place,”“Hmm thanks,” I mut
There he stood in the doorway, dressed in a black shirt and a pair of black pants. He looked out of place yet somehow in control. He stepped into the room and closed the door behind him.“Lexi,” he said“Marcus?” I said with a mix of surprise and confusion in my voice. My instincts suddenly stepped in and I went over to him and gave him a warm hug.“What are you doing here? It's been years since I last saw you,” I said in a worried tone. “Yeah, I know. It’s been quite tough moving on since that day Lexi,” he said almost teary. “Let’s not talk about that, that’s not why I am here,” he said, switching tones.“Then how are you here Marcus? Did you sneak in? Did anyone see you? I don’t know what this is all about but I think it’s dangerous here Marcus,” I said frantically. Marcus came closer to me and placed his hands right on my shoulder. “Let’s sit first Lexi,” he said We both moved towards my bed and sat facing each other“I only came on board as one of Julian’s security,” he said
It's been two weeks now and sleep didn’t come easily, my mind always raced at the thought of what Marcus said and also what Julian said—the deadline pressing down on me. 60 days, much less now. I kept turning from the right to the left side of the bed, the clock ticking steadily, more as a reminder of time slipping through my fingers. I suddenly threw off the covers and stood from my bed, pacing the room like a restless prisoner—maybe that’s what I was. Imprisoned to this painting, to Julian, to whatever game was unfolding before me. I grabbed my sketch pad from the table filled with different paint brushes, color palette, oil paints and normal paints and started drawing, trying to replicate the original Elysium with the vague memory I had. Halfway through the sketches, there was a soft knock on the door, I paused with my pencil mid stroke as the door gradually opened. The same young girl stepped in, standing in the doorway her expression remained still and unreadable. “Mr Julia

“I just got off the phone with detective Garrett, he said officer Petra was attacked in her home” I said to Julian.“Attacked?” Julian asked. “Do you think this was the trap detective Garrett said he set up for officer Petra?” Frederick asked.“No, he initially had plans of shaking her up a bit by having someone act as though he was ordered to attack her but I think your father actually sent someone to eliminate her” I said. “That’s just how he does things, he never leaves any lose ends” Julian said.“So the suspect is still at large?” Frederick asked.“Yes but officer Petra came clean, she has confessed to her crimes and that of Mr Blackwood” I said.“Knowing who my father is, he would go underground. It would then be difficult to find or locate him and my guess is the suspect would be with him” Julian said.“I think in the meantime we need to know the true story behind the Elysium and the orphanage…. We all seem to be connected to this one way or the other” I suggested.“Walker wa
Detective Garrett walked back into the house now.“I am sorry you both had to go through this” detective Garrett said. Julian finally broke away from our embrace and we all turned to detective Garrett and that’s when it occurred to me that the person I saw tase the man was actually Frederick.“Frederick?” I suddenly said. Julian looked at me and then looked at Frederick and realized he was the one who actually stood there. He was caught up in getting to me that he didn’t notice him when he came in. “How are you here? I’ve been trying to reach you but nothing man! Walker said you went to Russia but you weren’t there, where have you been all this while?!” Julian said, a little bit frustrated.“I’m really sorry for ghosting you all, I really thought I could pull it through but I couldn’t” Frederick said.“What do you mean ghost all of us? Were you trying to disappear?” I asked. Marve gently led his wife to have a seat as it was going to be a long conversation. “I’m so sorry Lexi, I
Xavier’s trial started and ended and he was finally sentenced to prison. Detective Garrett was present at the trial as his niece Frieda was also killed by Xavier. Marve came forward as a witness and testified to Xavier’s dealings as he had been keeping records and evidences against him. Xavier was seen escorted into the prison transport bus in cuffs as he looked at Marve and detective Garrett before the bus drove off.“Thank you so much for coming today, it would have been a difficult case if you didn’t decide to testify against him” detective Garrett said.“I am just happy to help out, we all seem to have been affected one way or the other by Xavier and Mr Blackwood” Marve said.“That just tells us that we still have a lot of work to do as Mr Blackwood is still walking around freely” detective Garrett said. ******************************I was with Marve’s pregnant wife back at their place. Marve has gone to court to testify against Xavier so I decided to come down and keep her com
Mr Blackwood is nowhere to be seen as he laid low in his residence during all of this chaos but is notified of what is going on. “Turns out Xavier has been siphoning the extra production of GB-3 sir…..he launched and hosted a party” the aide said.“I am well aware of all of these” Mr Blackwood said and poured himself a glass of vodka and drank.“But sir, you never mentioned or took action against Xavier” the aide said.“There is no point in chasing the rabbit tail, I knew that he was bound to get caught and arrested soon enough” Mr Blackwood said. “He should have paid for stealing from you sir” the aide said.“He will get whatever comes his way” Mr Blackwood said. Just then Marcus tried and found his way to Mr Blackwood’s residence as he no longer trusted Xavier and his words. One of the security from the gate radioed the closest aide to Mr Blackwood.“Boss, there is some kid at the gate. Claims he wants to speak to Mr Blackwood” the security said.“Must be a passerby. ...….send hi
Detective Garrett and I immediately found our way to the VIP section and met with Xavier who tried to run away. “I don’t think that's,'s a good idea,” detective Garrett said as he stood in front of Xavier with cuffs out. I quickly came up from behind and saw Julian standing on the opposite side of the room.“Julian!” I called out to him as he quickly heard his name and looked on my direction.“Lexi!” Julian called out too and quickly walked up to me and hugged me deeply and warmly.I held him so close to me and missed being in his arms.“I didn’t know you were back……I missed you,” I said, still in his embrace.“I'm sorry I did not make you aware of my arrival, I wanted to sort things here before I return to you,” Julian said. “I would go ahead and make the arrest,” detective Garrett said.He approached Xavier who had no way of escaping right now and arrested him alongside his aide. The back up cops arrested every single offender in the club along with one of Petra’s men while detec
It is finally the day Xavier hosted the party to launch GB-3 as his new drugs as a number of dealers where invited to have a taste of the drugs now named (X1).Julian was finally able to find a way to get invited to this party as he needed to meet with Xavier one on one. Detective Garrett and I on the other hand had no issues with finding our way into the party as Marve already guaranteed he would let us in through the back door.I got dressed in a black sequin short dress and a pair of strap heels, I had my make up done and my hair packed in a pony tail style. “You really have an idea how to dress up for events like this” Detective Garrett said the moment he saw me all dressed.“To be honest, this is my first time being in a club, I have always been all about painting. All I did was surf through the internet for basic outfits and the kind of make up to wear” I said.“Well I think the internet really helped you” Detective Garrett said.We both got into the car and we drove all the wa
