VALERIA
The room was still vibrating with the aftershocks of the confrontation when the nurse’s scream pierced the silence once more. “They are alive! The babies are alive!” For a moment, the words didn’t register in my mind. I lay there, stunned, as my body shook with the intensity of my sobs. But then the reality of what she said hit me like a bolt of lightning. Alive? My babies were alive? “What did you just say?” Reese asked. The nurse was already running towards the wing where the babies were, and her voice was high with excitement. “The babies have come back to life! I don’t know how, but they are breathing, and their hearts are beating!” Hope welled up in me, giving me strength, so I tried to sit up. “Please, let me see them!” But before I could move, the door slammed open, and Cynthia strode in. Her eyes were sharp and calculating as they swept the room, taking in the scene. As she locked eyes with Reese, her expression hardened. “Reese,” she said urgently. “Only one child survived. The other one didn’t make it.” Reese’s face twisted with renewed grief. He pushed past the nurse and the doctor, heading straight for the wing where the children were. Cynthia followed closely behind him, and her presence was just like a dark shadow. “Please, let me see my child,” I begged in a broken voice. “I need to see them!” As the doctor tried to help me, Cynthia’s sharp voice cut through the air. “No. She stays here,” she said harshly. Reese didn’t even look back. As he disappeared down the hall, his focus was entirely on the child who had miraculously survived. My heart shattered again for about the thousandth time as I realized that he wasn’t coming back for me. The nurse hesitated as she glanced between me and the door. “I’ll go check on the babies,” she said softly. “I’ll make sure that they are okay.” As she hurried away, an excruciating pain rose between my legs. It was so intense that it made me gasp loudly. The doctor was immediately at my side, and his hands were gentle but firm as he checked my vitals. “Valeria, you need to stay calm,” he said soothingly. “Your body has been through a strenuous ordeal. You need to rest.” “But my child…” I choked out as tears poured down my face. “I need to see my child.” “I know,” he said softly. “But right now, you need to heal. We will do everything we can to make sure your baby is safe.” The pain continued to flow through my body constantly. It was a brutal reminder of the trauma I had endured. I closed my eyes, as I tried to focus on my breathing, but my mind was filled with a combination of fear and anguish. Minutes felt like hours, and every sound in the hallway made me flinch. Finally, the nurse returned. As she gazed at me, her expression was filled with sadness. “Cynthia was right. Only one survived. The other one… didn’t make it.” A fresh wave of grief crashed over me. “No,” I whispered. My voice was barely audible, but the pain in it was obvious. “Not my baby. Please, not my baby.” “I’m so sorry,” the nurse said as her eyes filled up with tears. “But the one who survived is strong. Reese has taken the child to his quarters. He is making sure everything is done to keep them safe.” I felt a stab of pain, both physical and emotional, at the thought of Reese taking my child away. My body ached, but the pain in my heart was even worse. “Why didn’t he let me see my child?” I asked, my voice breaking. “Why did he leave me?” The nurse didn’t have an answer. She simply held my hand, offering what little comfort she could. “Rest, Valeria,” she urged. “You need to get your strength back..” I nodded, but the tears continued to flow. I had lost one child, and the other was now with a man who had threatened my life. *** The hours dragged on, filled with pain and sorrow. My body ached, and my heart felt like it was being crushed under the weight of my grief. I lay in the hospital bed, trying to summon the strength to move, to fight, but the despair in me was overwhelming. As the nurse from earlier entered the room, her expression was filled with a little bit of hope. "Valeria," she said softly. "I have some news." I turned my head slowly, my eyes filled with tears. "What is it?" I whispered, and deep down in my mind, I was dreading the answer. "The other twin," she began, a small smile forming on her lips. "The other twin that was pronounced dead is still alive." Hope filled my heart immediately. "Alive?" I breathed, hardly daring to believe it. "Really?" As the nurse nodded, I could tell that her eyes were warm with sympathy. "Yes. He’s a fighter just like his mother." Tears of relief streamed down my face. "Can I see him?" I asked urgently, and my voice trembled with emotion. "Please, I need to see him." The nurse hesitated. "He’s in the babies’ wing, currently receiving the best care we can provide. You need to rest and recover before you can see him." Before I could argue, the door swung open, and Cynthia strode in. Her presence was like a cold gust of wind, and it immediately chilled the warmth of the nurse's words. She glanced at the nurse with a dismissive look and then fixed her steely gaze on me. "Leave us," Cynthia commanded. The nurse cast a worried glance at me but obeyed as she slipped out of the room quietly. As Cynthia approached my bed, her expression was hard and unyielding. "You think you can manipulate everyone with your tears and false innocence, don't you?" she sneered. "What are you talking about?" I asked. "The nurse just told me that both of my babies are alive." Cynthia's eyes narrowed. "That was a mistake. The one with Reese has died. And he believes it's your fault." The room seemed to spin as I struggled to process her words. "No," I said, shaking my head. "That's not true. It can't be." Cynthia leaned in closer, and when she spoke, her voice was a venomous whisper. "Reese has sent guards to kill you. He holds you responsible for the death of your child. You have caused nothing but pain and suffering to this pack, and now you will pay the ultimate price." Panic surged through me instantly as my heart raced. "No, please," I begged. "I didn't do anything. I love my children. I would never hurt them." Cynthia's smile was cold and cruel. "It's too late for pleas, Valeria. The guards are on their way. This ends now." *** The room was in chaos, but somehow, I managed to slip past Cynthia as I clutched my surviving baby tightly to my chest. The nurse who had helped me earlier gave me a quick nod of encouragement, and I bolted for the door as my heart raced. Every step was agony, but I couldn’t stop. My child’s tiny breaths against my skin gave me the strength to push forward. I had to get us to safety. The pack hospital was made up of different hallways, and as I darted through them, I prayed for a miracle. As I rounded a corner, I saw a glimpse of the exit and immediately, I felt a spark of hope. Just a few more steps and we would be outside and free from danger. But before I could take another step, a voice echoed down the hallway like thunder, freezing me in place. “Don’t move an inch, Valeria.”VALERIAThe guards held me firm as Reese stood in front of me. His face was a mask of cold fury. The baby, now safe in his arms, gurgled softly, oblivious to the tension crackling in the air. My heart felt like it was being torn apart, each beat a painful reminder of what I was losing.“Reese,” I whispered in a barely audible voice. “Please, listen to me. I love you. I love our children. I would never hurt them.”His eyes were like ice, and they looked really unyielding and merciless. “Get lost, Valeria,” he said, his voice cutting through me like a blade. “Get out of my life. I don’t care if you live or die. You’re nothing to me now.”The words hit me like a physical blow, knocking the wind out of me. I felt the sting of tears in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I couldn’t show weakness, not now in front of him. Not when everything depended on my strength.“Reese, you don’t understand,” I pleaded. My voice cracked with desperation, but I forged on. “Cynthia is lying to you. S
VALERIA My eyes fluttered open to the sound of birds chirping outside the window. I slowly propped myself up in bed as I rubbed my eyes groggily, yawning. Where was I? What happened last night, and how did I get here? I tried to recall the horrid events of yesterday and everything that's happened. My heart sank at the thought that I would probably never see my mate again. Hold on... Reese was no longer my mate. He had rejected me.'I, Reese Carter, of Blue Moon Pack, reject you, Valeria Ashton of Blue Moon Pack.' His words stung like a sword being driven through my already-aching heart. How could he? After everything I've done and sacrificed for the pack,?That vile Cynthia wouldn't stop at anything until she had defeated me. But now that Reese had denounced me as his mate and I had been demoted to a slave, there was nothing for me at Blue Moon Pack. I was now an outsider, an imposter, even. My heart skipped a beat when my memories started coming back to me.My baby?! Where was my
REESEI had a crucial task at hand to do, and yet, why did my heart betray me like this? Why couldn't I stop thinking about Valeria? I had rejected her as my mate and banished her from the pack. So why? Why did images of her pretty face and smile filter through my mind nonstop?I had to focus on the task at hand. It was going to be a long day in the office. We were approaching one of the most pivotal moments of the Royal Company. We will be closing off a major deal very soon, and I need to focus more than ever.I brushed the thoughts aside and reached for the flies cluttered at my table and picked up a file, skimming through the pages of one of our investors's deeds of agreement. A light tap at the door jolted me from my concentration, and I narrowed my gaze at the door, knowing who it was.Without waiting for my permission, she propped her head through the half-opened door, a wide grin plastered on her face.It was Cynthia. "Busy?" She quipped with a lewd smile curling up at the co
REESE FIVE YEARS LATER "Chairman, all the shareholders are set for the meeting and are awaiting your arrival." I was preoccupied with thoughts of Valeria when my secretary's voice jolted me from my rambling thoughts. "I-" My voice was cut off by the vibration from my phone. My mind raced instantly, wondering who could be calling at such a time. The caller ID was not identified, further causing me to lift my brows in curiosity. I picked it up anyway and waited for the person on the other end of the line to initiate. "Papa?" His tiny voice pierced through the phone, causing my heart to flutter when I recognized the familiar voice. "Hello, my sweet boy. How is school? And why are you calling at such a time? You should be studying." I said it warmly as my face brightened up like a proud father. He was my world. Well, after his mother disappeared,. 'But you rejected her and demoted her...' The voice rang in my head, reminding me of the devastating incident that
LREESE The meeting commenced as soon as I stepped inside the large conference room.Accordingly, I settled in my chair at the center of the rectangular table with Cynthia beside me while the shareholders flagged on both sides of the table. I straightened my crispy navy blue suit as I scanned the conference room.I arched my brows when my gaze caught the empty seat on the right side, which belonged to the highest shareholder. It seemed like the person was late, but unfortunately, time was running out.So I cleared my throat, bracing myself to begin the meeting at once, when the door creaked open, stopping me in my tracks. All heads turned in the direction of the door as an elegant woman stepped into view. The clinking of heels against the polished floor announced her presence in the conference room. Silence lingered in the air as pairs of orbs gawked in her direction, instantly mesmerized. Long, lush blonde hair cascaded down her shoulders, spilling onto her back. The beige busines
REESEThe silence hung in the air like a guillotine, ready to snap, taking everyone by surprise. Her firm words left Cynthia bereft of words as her lips quivered. It was safe to say I was the most surprised of them all.Was this really the Valeria I knew five years ago?!My heart drummed frantically in my chest like a hailstorm as I struggled to process the scene before me.This woman, who had barged into the conference room, was nothing like my ex-wife. And yet, why couldn't I ignore the strange, nagging feeling brewing inside of me, pulling me toward her?"Shall we begin then?" My secretary's voice pierced through my thoughts, snapping at the urgency at hand. He turned on the projector and approached the whiteboard with some files securely placed in his hands. We had a deal to finalize.I couldn't wait to get this over and done with. Perhaps I should talk with her? She should have the answers to the puzzling questions swirling inside of me.I watched her as she made her way to the
VALERIA My heart raced as my heart pounded frantically underneath my ribcage as I watched the myriad of emotions play on Reese's face. First, shock, then anger, and eventually amusement.Asshole! Of course, he would find this situation amusing! Nothing has changed about him! He was the man who betrayed me and left me devastated five years ago! How the hell did he have the balls to touch me in such a sensual way?! But as much as I hated to admit it, my body was drawn to his. Damn it! After all these years, why would my own body betray me like this?I should be feeling nothing but sheer anger and disgust for a man like Reese! And yet...The hair on my nape stood on its end as anger brewed inside of me.Wait a minute... Did I perhaps give out something about myself? Has he caught on to the fact to the fact that I'm really his ex-wife?That's impossible! I've practiced this over and over again. There's no way I could be caught that easily. But his next words dispelled my doubts."I'm
VALERIAI was too stunned to speak as silence hung in the air like a hot iron curtain enveloping us, stealing my breath away. How could this be?! Why was Reese here?!After our encounter at the office, I wasn't expecting to run into him too soon. Damn it! I wasn't ready at all.My heart raced with a million questions. What the hell do I do? If I left now, he would suspect that I was hiding something up my sleeves, and I didn't want that at all. That could jeopardize my plans even before I set them in motion. And besides, I really needed this property. His widened eyes were searing as they bore into mine.He was as confused and shocked as I was.Nevertheless, the business must go on. I came here with one goal in mind—to purchase the property, and that was that.I cleared my throat weakly as I prepared to take my seat across from him.I was still dazed by this unplanned encounter as several thoughts swirled through my mind that I didn't notice I put the wrong foot forward. My heels cau
