The oppressive silence of the medical tent was broken only by the sound of Luke's labored breathing. His body trembled, sweat streaming down his pale face as he thrashed against the cot. His parents, Laura and Samuel, who just entered the tent hovered beside him, their faces etched with worry.

"Why is he still like this?" Laura whispered, her voice thick with emotion. She clutched Luke's hand, her thumb stroking his damp skin. "It’s been hours… What’s happening to him?"

Samuel’s broad shoulders sagged as he looked at his son, helpless. “It’s that damned serum,” he muttered under his breath. “They said it might help him, but look at him, Laura. He’s burning up.”

Mira stood near the cot, wringing her hands. She glanced at Marcus, the medic who had just entered the tent. His expression was grim as he approached, setting his kit on a nearby table.

“Let me take a look,” Marcus said, his voice steady but tinged with concern. He placed a hand on Luke’s forehead, frowning. “Fever’s high. His

As the evening sun dipped below the Lagos horizon, the camp surrounding Eko University came alive with an eerie glow. Fires from makeshift barrels and the harsh glare of floodlights illuminated the tense faces of soldiers patrolling the perimeter. It had been a grueling day, but quiet—a rarity in the chaos that had become their norm. Many prayed for the night to stay that way.Near the main gate, Corporal Ibrahim adjusted his binoculars, scanning the dark expanse beyond the barricades. He muttered under his breath, his frustration evident. “Why dem no just bomb the school finish? All these things fit spread go mainland o.”As he scanned further, a flicker of movement caught his eye. He froze, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end. At first, it was just a handful of figures, but then more appeared. Dozens turned into hundreds, their disjointed movements growing alarmingly fast as they broke into a charge. The guttural growls that followed made his blood run cold.“Command,

  • Campus of the undead   The attack cont'd.

The chaos at Eko University had reached fever pitch. The soldiers held their ground, firing in disciplined bursts, but the zombies came in relentless waves. Their attacks were unlike anything anyone had seen before—calculated, almost as though they were being directed. For every breach sealed and every flank reinforced, the undead found another way to press their advantage. In the middle of the camp, Governor Dennis was nowhere to be found among the men barking orders or civilians seeking safety as they avoided the encampment like a plague hearing the gunshots and seeing the news broadcasted. Instead, he was at the edge of the encampment, flanked by his two bodyguards, pacing frantically beside a black SUV with tinted windows.“This is madness,” Dennis hissed, his voice low and filled with tension. “Do these people expect me to die here? I’m the Governor, for God’s sake!”One of his guards, a burly man in a fitted suit, nodded toward the vehicle. “Oga, let’s go now. The zombies dey f

  • Campus of the undead   Mirabel

The dim light from the lantern cast flickering shadows across the tent, giving the room an almost eerie glow. Mira sat at Luke’s bedside, her hand clutching his limp one, her fingers brushing over his feverish skin. His breaths were shallow and erratic, his body drenched in sweat as he muttered incoherently. She couldn’t understand most of what he was saying—fragments about darkness, whispers about fighting something unseen."Luke," she murmured softly, leaning closer to him. Her voice cracked with emotion. "It's me, Mira. I'm here."He twitched slightly, his head rolling to the side, his lips parting to release another string of unintelligible words.Mira wiped a tear from her cheek. “I know you’re in there,” she said, her voice trembling. “You’re the strongest person I know. You’ve fought so hard for all of us, for me… Don’t give up now. Please don’t give up.”Her grip on his hand tightened as her emotions spilled over. “I never told you how much you mean to me. I was too scared, to

The soft flicker of the lantern barely lit the medical tent, but to Mira, it was enough. It had to be. The dim light made Luke’s pale, feverish face look even more fragile. His brow glistened with sweat, and his lips moved with unintelligible whispers. She sat close to him, clutching his hand like a lifeline. “Luke,” she said softly, brushing a damp strand of hair from his forehead. “You’re scaring me, you know that?” He twitched slightly, a strained groan slipping from his lips. His eyes flickered beneath his lids, as if caught in a dream—or a nightmare which he was. Mira took a deep breath, her voice trembling as she continued, “Do you remember the time during early this year? When we had that poetry competition? You insisted on performing even though you were terrible at it.” She let out a small laugh, her voice cracking with emotion. “Your poem didn’t even rhyme, Luke. But everyone clapped so hard because you said it with so much passion.” She paused, her fingers tracing the ba

  • Campus of the undead   Major Erickson

The sound of heavy boots pounding against the dirt broke the stillness in the tent. Major Erickson stormed inside, his hand gripping his rifle tightly, his eyes scanning the small space. The dim light of the lantern revealed Luke lying feverishly on the cot, drenched in sweat, but what struck him immediately was the empty chair next to him—and the absence of Mira. Erickson’s gaze snapped toward the entrance. Two soldiers lay lifeless at the threshold, their blood forming dark pools that seeped into the earth. His jaw clenched, and his knuckles turned white around the grip of his rifle. “Damn it!” he growled under his breath, kneeling next to one of the fallen men. He checked for any signs of life, but it was futile. Both soldiers were dead, their throats torn open in brutal, precise attacks. Erickson’s mind raced as he tried to piece together what had happened. Mira wouldn’t have left willingly, not with Luke in such a fragile state seeing as she refused to leave his side all day.

The tension in the medical tent reached a breaking point as Major Erickson whirled around, his piercing gaze locking onto Governor Dennis. The governor had barely stepped inside, flanked by his two bodyguards, when Erickson erupted.“You!” Erickson barked, his voice sharp and filled with unrestrained fury. His finger jabbed the air in Dennis’s direction as he closed the distance between them. “This is on you, Dennis! All of it! Your monstrous nephew, your experiments—your damned hubris!”Dennis raised a hand in a gesture of placation, but his face betrayed his irritation. “Major, I don’t know what you’re insinuating—”“You know exactly what I’m insinuating!” Erickson snapped, cutting him off. His face was flushed with rage, and the veins in his neck bulged. “Your little science project, Akin, started all of this! And now my daughter—my daughter—is missing for the second because of it!”Dennis’s bodyguards stepped forward protectively, their hands moving toward their weapons, but Erick

The atmosphere in the tent was suffocating, thick with tension and the sour smell of blood and sweat. Joseph stormed in, his face a mask of fury and worry. His boots hit the ground with forceful strides, and his fists were clenched tightly by his sides. His eyes locked on his father, Major Erickson, who stood at the far end of the room, arms crossed, his expression weary but resolute.“I’m going after her,” Joseph declared, his voice cutting through the silence like a blade. “I don’t care what it takes. I’m not leaving Mira out there with that maniac.”“Joseph,” Erickson began, his voice calm but firm, “we can’t afford to lose anyone else to reckless decisions. We need to think this through.”“There’s nothing to think about!” Joseph snapped, his anger barely contained. “Akin has her, and you know what he’s capable of. We wait too long, and she’s as good as gone.”Erickson’s face hardened, his jaw tightening. “And what do you think you’ll accomplish storming off on your own? Do you thi

  • Campus of the undead   The end

The warm evening sun dipped below the horizon, casting a soft orange glow over Lagos. Luke and Mira walked hand-in-hand along the quiet streets, the sound of their footsteps a comforting rhythm beneath the bustling city noises. It had been three months since they had been released from the detention facility, and things had finally started to feel normal again—or as normal as life could be after everything they had endured.Luke couldn’t remember the last time he felt this carefree. For the first time in a long time, there were no heavy burdens weighing on his shoulders. No government scrutiny, no terrifying fear of what the future might hold. He was simply Luke again, the young man who had fought to survive but also the man who could finally enjoy life.Mira glanced at him, a soft smile tugging at her lips. “You seem… different. In a good way.”Luke returned the smile, his eyes lighting up as he squeezed her hand. “I feel different. I feel like I’ve finally been given a second chance

  • Campus of the undead   The Cost of Freedom

The weeks had dragged on, the sterile walls of the detention facility becoming an oppressive reminder of the world that had come to fear Luke and Bayo. They were no longer the heroes who fought to survive—they were the weapons that had once been their salvation, now seen as potential threats to the fragile stability that the world clung to. The military’s tight control over them, the constant surveillance, and the relentless scrutiny from every corner of the globe had taken its toll. Luke’s mind was weary, and his body reflected the strain. Every day felt like an eternity spent in a cage, the lingering uncertainty about what the world would think of him once he was released only fueling the exhaustion that gripped his every waking moment. It wasn’t just about the physical confinement anymore—it was about how he would be perceived by a world that had watched him fight, watched him kill, and watched him struggle. His parents—Laura and Samuel—visited regularly. Their support was unwav

  • Campus of the undead   Aftermath

The chaos at Eko State University was broadcast worldwide, its devastation felt far beyond the borders of Lagos. In a quiet mansion in Ikoyi, far from the inferno, Morenike paced her living room. Her eyes were glued to the TV, where Rachel’s live coverage replayed the horrors of the past hours. Her son, Akin, was on every channel—a vision of destruction and fury. Clips showed him commanding infected hordes, fighting soldiers, and causing untold devastation. The media painted him as a symbol of the apocalypse, a man consumed by the infection yet capable of terrifying control. “No… no, this can’t be my Akin,” Morenike whispered, her voice breaking. She gripped the back of the nearest chair, her knuckles turning white. Her maid, Titi, approached cautiously. “Madam, maybe it’s best to rest. This news… it’s too much.” Morenike shook her head vehemently. “That’s my son. My boy. What have they done to him?” Her knees buckled, and she sank into the chair, tears streaming down her face.

  • Campus of the undead   The Final Purge

The rhythmic hum of the helicopter's blades cut through the eerie silence of the Eko State University (EKSU) campus. Below, a scene of chaos was coming to a tense standstill. Bayo’s figure, barely distinguishable in the dim light, moved among the lifeless, shambling zombies. His exhausted yet determined strides guided them toward their designated points, keeping the horde tightly controlled. Soldiers and survivors huddled at a safe distance, their wide eyes shifting uneasily between the horde and the sky. Major Erickson stood near the frontline, his steely demeanor masking the weight of the decision he was about to execute. Luke stood beside Mira, her fingers laced tightly through his. They both watched Bayo with a mix of admiration and dread. Nearby, Luke’s parents remained quiet, their expressions frozen in the same disbelief mirrored by every other face. Erickson raised his radio. His voice carried a calm authority that belied the tension in the air. “Echo Base, this is Major Er

  • Campus of the undead   The Calm After the Storm

The battlefield was eerily quiet, save for the occasional groan of a wounded soldier. The once-mindless zombies now stood frozen, their lifeless eyes staring into the void. Soldiers and survivors stared at the undead in stunned silence, unsure whether to rejoice or remain on guard. The tension hung heavy in the air, a mix of relief and dread. Bayo knelt on the ground, his chest heaving as he struggled to catch his breath. He wiped sweat from his brow, his connection to the horde severed but still leaving a faint, nagging hum in his mind. He glanced around, his gaze meeting Luke’s. “You good?” Luke asked, stepping closer. Bayo nodded, though his exhaustion was evident. “Yeah... for now.” Major Erickson approached the group, his face set in a grim expression. He surveyed the scene, his sharp eyes taking in the scattered corpses of zombies and the soldiers who had fallen in battle. His radio crackled to life, breaking the uneasy silence. “This is Echo Base. Major, your package h

Rachel hovered in the helicopter, her camera zoomed in on the chaos below. Her live feed broadcasted to millions worldwide, capturing a battle no one could have imagined. Below her, the scene was apocalyptic: zombies clawing and thrashing, their hunger insatiable. In their midst, Luke fought with a ferocity that demanded attention. “This is Rachel, live from the heart of what might be the most pivotal moment in human history,” she said into her headset. “What you’re witnessing isn’t just survival—it’s war. And leading it are three individuals who may very well change the tide of this conflict.” The camera focused on Luke, his enhanced strength on full display as he tore through the horde. To the side, Bayo stood like an immovable wall, holding the zombies at bay through sheer will and some mysterious connection to them. Above it all, Akin stood on the roof of an overturned military truck, his commanding presence undeniable. His laughter echoed across the battlefield as he spread h

Bayo’s knees wobbled as the weight of the horde's relentless advance seemed to press down on his chest. The battlefield was chaos— filled with growls, screams, and the sharp sounds of gunfire. Every breath he took felt heavier, like something primal was clawing at the edges of his mind. His vision blurred momentarily as he stumbled back, clutching his head. “Bayo, what’s wrong?” Luke’s voice barely reached him over the noise. “I… I don’t know,” Bayo murmured, his words barely audible. The moment Akin had stepped forward, the air had shifted. There was a palpable charge, a sense of inevitability. And for Bayo, something else entirely—a flood of raw emotion that wasn’t his. At first, it was faint, like static on a weak signal. But now it roared through him with a ferocity he couldn’t ignore. He gritted his teeth, his head pounding with every passing second. Rage. Hunger. A deep, unrelenting hunger that burned hotter than anything he had ever felt. --- The horde pressed forward, t

  • Campus of the undead   The Uneasy Realization

Luke paced restlessly near the makeshift shelter they had found for Mira and his parents, hidden away in an abandoned building far from the chaos of the encampment. Mira sat beside Laura, comforting her as Samuel kept watch by the entrance. Bayo leaned against the wall, sharpening his machete, his eyes scanning their surroundings with the same sharpness as his blade. “You feel it, don’t you?” Luke said suddenly, breaking the silence. Bayo looked up, his expression unreadable. “Yeah. Something’s off.” Luke clenched his fists. His enhanced senses were screaming at him. Ever since the attack started, there had been an inexplicable pull—like a thread connecting him to Akin. It was faint at first, but now it was undeniable, like a beacon drawing him toward the source of the chaos. “What do you think he’s up to?” Luke asked, his voice low. Bayo sighed, sheathing his machete he had picked from a fallen soldier. “You know what he’s capable of, Luke. He’s not the same person you knew
