The day after his awakening, Nathaniel made the quick walk towards the witch’s cottage to begin training. They meet by her door and she swiftly took him through the woods, into the clearing she described the day before. The spot was perfect for training and the man noticed how comfortable she was in the nature.

“Where do we start, Nathaniel?”

“I was the one to make the offer so it’s only fair I start teaching. Perhaps you can show me what you can do.”

She nodded and seemed deep in thought for a while. Nate began to think nothing would happen, but suddenly Brianna closed her eyes and put both hands on the ground. A single dahlia sprung from the grass between them, growing steadily from a small bulb to a perfectly round set of light pink petals. A gush of wind took a few petals away along with its seeds and they fell not far from its origin. Bree took her hands from the ground and small drops of water began to assemble on her cupped hands. She walked towards the stray seeds and the water danced from her hands to the soil, falling like raindrops and nurturing the new life that would come.

Nathaniel believed that was of the most beautiful thing he had ever seen and for a while he stood speechless admiring the story that was told before him. Luckily, the woman had her eyes closed and a small content smile, unaware of the playful wind that was lightly messing with her hair. Her hands fell to her side and her shoulders seemed to carry a weight that just wasn’t there before. That gave him time to snap out of his trance and plaster a cold demeanor.

“I meant what you can do in a fight, witch.”

Her smile broke and a flash of pain crossed her eyes, making Nathaniel almost regret the harsh tone.

“I don’t fight.”

“You fought me”

“I defended myself”

“Then do it.” He began to form a fireball between his hands, giving her just a little bit of time to notice what was happening. He never used such straightforward techniques in a real fight, but he was not trying to kill her. Yet.

Brianna was alarmed by the situation but before she could think of a way out, he fired at her. There was no thought involved in her defense, however an ice shield was created by her hands blocking the attack. In quick succession, the fire was shot in her direction, striking her only protection in a sickening dance that she was bound to lose. Her protection was made from water drawn from the humidity of the air, so instead of melting by her feet, the shield simple faded away with each strike.

She felt exhaustion coming over her and tried to ask him to stop, but her voice barely came out and the blasts were way to loud. Her knees faltered and she fell to the ground, black spots clouded her vision and she unwillingly gave in to the darkness

“Fuck” Nate got to her in a couple of large strides and checked out for any injuries, assuming one of the fireballs had hit her despite the shield. He noticed no burns, but she was coated in a thin layer of sweat and her face was pale. She actually drained herself defending from his attacks and although he knew this could happen, he felt guilty about pushing her so far. He wanted to see how much energy she could draw from herself but didn’t imagine she would do it until she passed out.

Nate took her in his arms and neared the river’s margin, where he sat with the limp body in his arms. He ripped a piece fabric from his tunic and dipped it in the river, then ran the cloth past her forehead and down her neck hoping the cooling sensation would wake her up. The movement started off harsh, uncaring, but without noticing he began to soften the strikes and pay attention to details of her face he hadn’t notice before. Her lashes were long and when the light hit them a certain way, they had a coppery tone that matched her hair. She had light freckles across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose, giving out an innocent vibe. Her thin lips arched towards the end giving her an always smiling appearance. The story of the dahlia she created earlier has dull in comparison to the beauty of the person laying on his arms.

Bree regained consciousness before she opened her eyes, which allowed her to enjoy the feeling of being taken care of a bit longer. The gentle strokes on her hair and cooling sensation on her neck took her to a blissful state and when she opened her eyes, she met a pair of hazel ones that gazed her with such intensity she found it impossible to look away. Nathaniel froze when her eyes fluttered. He wanted to stay there, but he was not known for his self-restrain when it came to matters of the flesh and escalating things with the witch would only compromise his endgame. He opted for a harsh approach instead.

About a month into their training, Nathaniel was finding the nights exceedingly long and the days spent by Brianna’s side way too short. As he made his way to the clearing, he reminisced the day they practiced way after dark. At dawn, he asked her to start a fire pit for practice purposes, but in truth he just didn’t want to leave. In return, she asked him to kill the fire with water from the river and though the water started to move, it was not enough to perform the task. The woman held one of his hands and he felt a surge of power coursing through him, allowing him to call for the water and lower the flames. The memory almost put a smile to his face, but he frowned, shook his head and kept his morning path towards her.

That night, Brianna laid in bed lost in thought. She did not plan for any of that to happen and was puzzled by the consequences of her acts. The construction of a rational train of thought was constantly broken by flashes of his hands on her body, the softness of his hair, and then the agonizing detachment of their lips. She shook her head trying to focus. There was something there, just bellow the surface. It needed to be thought through and brought out.She was a master of the elements and her purpose was to answer their callings and tend to their needs, not the callings of men. Mankind had a way of satisfying their needs without her and she had no business messing with the natural flow of th

His kisses trailed down her neck and she tilted her head invitingly. He groaned at the movement and she felt his manhood swell against her skin. Her knees weakened and she felt his grip on her tighten, but Bree decided the gravity was not helping her stay vertical. She called for the wind and it wrapped around them like a cloak, lifting them gently and placing them back on the ground on a horizontal position. She made sure to end up on top of him and backed out just enough to see his eyes widen in surprise. Her heart was racing, and she felt daring, so she went down to kiss him again but not missing the chance to lightly brush her nipples against hi

That night, Nathaniel was having a hard time falling asleep. He kept reminiscing the surreal time they shared, not only on that moment but even after, during their training session. He had been with his fair share of ladies before, and even a sorceress that knew all sorts of potions to make things interesting, yet he had never been that fulfilled. There was just something about her and the way she surrendered to him so utterly and completely. He had noticed her honesty before, how she had never lied to him or even told him half-truths, but now he was beginning to notice her genuineness was not restricted to her words. There was not a single thing she did that was not authentic. Her body translated a kind of truth that was ancient and unmistakable, as if she were physically incapable of a dishonest reaction.

“Bree, I…” whatever explanation he was hoping to provide was cut short by the massive root that emerged from the ground and trapped him against the wall. The situation was awfully familiar, except now the branches were twice as large and she had done it without a single hint of effort. At least the training was paying off. Nate noticed she controlled the roots to such extent that he could not move a single muscle from the neck down but was left completely unharmed. He almost smiled from the thought that she was mad, but not enough to hurt him. “I will ask you some questions and you better believe I know you enough to tell w

Brianna left the cottage before the first rays of sunlight pierced her window. It took everything in her to get out of that bed, especially after the night they shared. She could still feel the light touches that rapidly evolved to desperate grasps, the soft kisses, the whispered words. One particular memory crawled into her mind just as she crossed the recently burnt land of the forest she called home.“You are beautiful, Brianna” His voice was still uneven from his recent release, specially so due to the roughness she had requested towards the end. She didn’t know she would enjoy it, but apparently having her wrists pinned by his hand above her head while he thrusted slo

Nate patted the bed hoping to bring a tiny warm body closer to him, letting out a frustrated sight when he found it cold. He stretched lazily, imagining the morning meal she might be cooking for them. He could get used to it, though he would prefer to wake up by her side to replay the indescribable events of the previous night. That was only their second time together and he was already picturing a future there, but how couldn’t he, when she had agreed to work with him for the Council? He was not sure how it worked for them, having a pair under the organization, but they could surely figure it out. They would do anything to have her by their side, he was confident of it. The camp near the southern border was perhaps one of the oldest. It lost many residents throughout the years, but still held more people than the resources could feed. The movement of the desert’s sand was the only thing indicating the passing of time on the otherwise static land. Even the strong willed eventually caved to the ruthlessness of the camp, the inevitability of its reality. It was the apex of grief, that much power constrained by the invisible shackles of danger. The self-imposed imprisonment eroded the souls of the adventurers and crushed the wishes of the dreamers.

“Allow me to shed some light into your path, my dears” The couple turned to the woman, surprised to see she was still there. Bree trusted her implicitly, but she knew Nate was still apprehensive. The anger from his drawn need was present, pulsing behind his eyes. She heard him fuming against her hair and intertwined their fingers to help him calm down. The old woman motioned them to take a sit again, and Bree took the opportunity to quickly peck Nate on the lips. It was working, the little contact she was establishi

Bree was the first to accept the situation. Brianna was trying to keep herself together, but she was livid. It took her over an hour to calm Nate down enough for him to tell her the story. An hour and two punches to the wall. She felt the anger pouring out of his every word and by the end, most of it was shared between the two.She was sitting on their bed while he paced around, both trying to breath through the rage. “We need to leave” Her voice was sure, probably more that she really felt.

Bree and Nate left the room way too late for a morning meal, and both their stomachs were complaining when they got to the main flor of the library. Lady Cassie, as the amazing host she was, prepared them a complete meal to welcome both of them back to the world of the living. Bree knew her routine for the past couple of days was absurd. She tried to spiral out of it, but it was impossible to control matters of the heart with a rational mind. As much as she thought ‘enough is enough’, her soul was not done yet. She had to keep searching and digging. She didn’t even have a chance to grief, despite the sadness that consumed her every move. She was not one for crying, but she knew it wasn’t healthy to bottle all those miserable feelings inside. Yet she didn’t cry. Not once. She tried to, but nothing came out, not even a dry sob.
